Council Rock North - 1
Council Rock North celebrated their senior night on Monday evening, as they hosted Souderton. Unfortunately for North, they weren't able to continue the celebrations with a win.
North started the first half strong and looked determined to claim the win for their seniors. In the first ten minutes Souderton was on their heels and had to dig in as North pushed forward with pace.
Around the 30 minute mark Souderton appeared to have found their way into the game. With 28 minutes left they were able to work the ball onto the left wing to sophomore Hannah Alderfer. Alderfer used her pace to get to the end-line and delivered an inch perfect cross to Sophomore Taylor Yoder, who was able to match the perfection of the cross with a neat one-time finish into the bottom corner of the near post.
The goal restored Souderton's confidence and they worked to possess the ball for the remainder of the half. For the most part they were successful, but senior goalkeeper Lindsey Pazdziorkio was called into action with 6 minutes left as North snuck in behind the Souderton defense and unleashed a powerful shot. Pazdziorkio was able to push the shot past her post for a corner kick.
Shortly after, Souderton launched the counter attack with a through ball to Junior Grace Kelly. Kelly beat North's defense and cut inside to for a shot that was destined for the bottom corner. North's keeper got just enough on it for the shot to roll inches wide for the corner kick, which was equally as dangerous and had to be cleared off the line in the dying moments of the half.
At the start of the second half Souderton was on the front foot again, as senior Erin O'Keefe tried to capitalize on a defensive miscue from North. O'Keefe won the ball off the last defender and went in on goal. She tried to beat the keeper who was able to get down quick enough and smother the attack.
Almost immediately after Souderton won a free kick in North's half. Senior Campbell Power struck it well and North did their best to clear. The clearance fell to Power who was able to control and strike the ball from about 25 yards out into the top corner to put Souderton up 2-0.
Souderton appeared to be in control until about 14 minutes left when North earned a free kick about 30 yards away from Souderton's goal. A great cross from the set-piece found an attacking player who finished with a looping header into the top corner of the net to bring North back within a goal of their opponent.
The goal put Souderton on their heels a bit as they worked to repel an onslaught of half-chances in the span of a few minutes. Souderton was eventually able to clear their lines and work the ball into the attacking third. Power found some space for herself again and was able to set up senior and fellow captain Sarah Readinger for a left footed finish into the far post from about 20 yards out. Souderton's third goal proved to be the nail in the coffin that would give them the 3-1 victory on the night.
