We started the game really well and were able to control the ball on a difficult grass surface, but weren't able to capitalize on some early first half opportunities. Senior Avery Nogami got in behind Neshaminy's defense and had a couple of really good chances, one that bobbled up at the last moment and ended up going over the bar. Nicole Schulingkamp and Alexis Stefanowicz let loose a few shots as well, but none found the target.
Late in the second half we were undone by a deflected clearance that got Neshaminy in behind our back line for a 1-on-1 finish. Shortly after we conceded on a set piece and from then on were working to fight back into the game.
The score line doesn't show it, but our outside back Natalie Rankin put in a really strong performance. At half she came off and said she wanted to leave the field with the dirtiest jersey on the team, and by the end of the game she reached her goal. She was putting in tackles left and right and did a really good job of staying engaged and fighting, regardless of what was on the scoreboard.
