Quakertown - 1
Souderton found themselves down early as they visited Quakertown on Tuesday evening. Five minutes into the game the Indians conceded a corner and the ball found the back of the net after a scramble in the box. As they have throughout the season, the Indians had to fight their way back to get a result.
Grace Kelley provided the spark to get Souderton back in the match, as she worked her way up the field out of the defense to unleash a long distance shot that was tipped by the goalkeeper but eventually bounced off the crossbar and rolled back into the net. From then on, Souderton were able to get control of the game, as they moved the ball freely up and down the field. Despite their ability to retain possession, Souderton couldn't connect upfield to put themselves ahead in the first half.
Souderton pushed throughout the second half to find the winner. Katie Pazdziorko, the hero from Monday's game with two assists and two goals, shot just wide with 25 minutes to play. Taylor Yoder and Hannah Alderfer also each had an opportunity to put the Indians ahead, but Quakertown's goalkeeper made two strong saves to keep the game even. With four minutes left, Leah Mowery had another chance off a well-hit free kick that was saved once again by Quakertown's keeper. Neither team could break the deadlock in regulation, which meant overtime.
Both teams had chances to win in overtime. Souderton goalkeeper Ashlyn Odenwald had to come up with a huge save on a free kick that was headed for the top corner, and then came up big to make the stop on the ensuing corner kick. Pazdziorko had a couple long distance efforts for Souderton, and the Indians frantically pushed for a winner in the last five minutes of the second overtime period, but it never came.
We played well and at times moved the ball the way we wanted to. When we had possession in the first half, it looked like some of the strongest soccer we have played all year. Unfortunately we were down 1-0 at that point and had to dig ourselves out of the hole. Overall the team played really well and did well to get a result. Maybe we were a little unlucky to walk away without anything more than a tie.
