I was proud of the way my girls played today. They worked really hard through all 85 minutes of the game. Nikki Sahl and Shannon Mahon were creating some really creative attacks through the first half, and after some hard work Shannon sent a ball in front of the goal where Nikki capitalized with a nice shot to take the lead around 13 minutes into the game. Springfield answered with a really difficult shot into the top corner to equalize the game. The score remained tied until the end of regulation.
Our girls were really committed, in spite of being weary, to play intelligent and aggressive soccer in OT. And they did. We moved the ball well and put pressure on Springfield, creating a number of corner kick opportunities. On our final corner kick the ball was loose in the box. Quinn Rozanski punched the ball through the box and Ruby Levin had a gutsy attack on the ball, sending it into the back of the net for the win.
Several standout players today: Payge Lennon dominated the 50/50 balls throughout the game. Kenna Rozanski was the motor that kept us going, remaining a strong presence in the middle. Agnes Kroll was very strong in the back, anchoring our back line. And Violet Levin played a really strong game at wing back, both as a defensive presence, as well as attacking out of the back line. I am really proud of all of the girls' efforts today.
