Tonight's game was a really well played game. It was exactly what an 8 vs. 9 match-up should be. We did a great job of possessing the ball and moving it through our system. The girls knew coming into this match-up that in order to win we had to capitalize on our opportunities and keep solid pressure on Marple Newtown to lessen theirs.
We were down at the half 1-0, but that really didn't rattle us. This group of girls does not lose their composure, nor do they lose sight of what our game plan is. At the half we spoke about a few things that we needed to do in order to get the equalizer.
That happened in the 65 th minute when Kylie Wiest drew a foul about thirty yards out. Maggie Brophy was able to finish with a spectacular shot in the upper right corner. Following that goal, we continued to create chances and squander Marple Newtowns. With about 3:30 minutes to go, Kyra Favors ripped a shot, and Mariana Castillo made a tremendous save.
In the overtime, Marple Newtown was able to finish first. As a coaching staff, we are so proud of what our girls accomplished this season. We watched them grow as a team and individuals, and really connect on the field. Our girls have no reason to hang their heads, it was a well played game and they left everything on the field.
Every member of our squad contributed to our success this season. Kudos to our seven seniors for their four years of contributions to this program. I can not stress enough how proud we are of our girls.
