The first game of this season was always going to be tough but we were pleased with our start today. Scoring early helped us settle some nerves and our senior leadership was excellent throughout. Tennent has some dangerous players in Caroline Weir and Gabby Sowers , I thought we did a good job at stopping them as well as creating our own chances.
Kyra DelSignore scored early for us after some good interplay between Taylor Brennan and Julianna Lanigan. Sammy Judge scored from a direct kick and then Anna Cairone scored off Sammy's corner later in the half. Morgan McCaffery added a goal in the second half for us to seal the win. For us it was important to give minutes to as many players as we could as there have been no scrimmages. I thought Izzy Linus and DJ Lepore did a great job in the middle today and Riley Hamilton was solid defensively in the second half.
It was nice to win but it was great to actually see the girls play today, they have worked long and hard to prepare themselves for this and to finally have the opportunity was a great reward.
