Central Bucks West Comments
Central Bucks West was the home team, but the game was actually played at Souderton High School. The Suburban One League match up was moved up a day to avoid possible bad weather coming into the area. The game time was a 5 PM start since Souderton played a 1 PM game against Methacton High School earlier in the day. As for the game itself, Central Bucks West came away with a 1-0 win against a very good Souderton team. Sienna Lawson was dominant again in the circle. Throwing a seven inning complete game, giving up only four hits on the day and striking out eleven Souderton batters. Souderton had runners in scoring position in the second, fifth, sixth and seventh innings but could not plate a run on the afternoon. Lawson pitched out of several difficult innings including the sixth inning when Souderton had a two out single with a runner on second, but a strong throw from left fielder Jill Boyle kept the runner on third and prevented the go ahead run from scoring. West struggled at the plate throughout most of the evening, but finally got on the board in the bottom half of the sixth inning. The score was tied 0-0 going into the bottom of the sixth inning when Ana Glemser drove a McKenna Schroding pitch into the left center field gap for a leadoff double and the very first hit of the game for Central Bucks West. As it turned out, it would stand as the only hit on the day for the Bucks. Chloe Dryden followed the Glemser double with a ground out to shortstop advancing Glemser to third and then Glemser scored when Laila Murray hit a run producing ground ball to second that scored the go ahead run on the evening and the only run in the contest. Two Souderton pitchers Richter and McKenna Schroding combined for a one hitter and only gave up one earned run for the game. But, the eleven strikeout, four hit game by Bucks ace pitcher Sienna Lawson proved too much for the Souderton Indians to overcome. Head Coach for the Bucks Mike Daher said, "this was a good win for us and one that we really needed to get a good seeding in the District One tournament. We faced some really good pitching today so to come away with a 1-0 win felt good. We got great pitching from Sienna again and we played solid defense. Hopefully our bats will get going as we enter the playoffs. We obviously did not have many hits today, one in fact, but that one hit by Ana Glemser was a big one. She got that hit off of an outstanding pitcher in McKenna. The fact that Chloe Dryden and Laila Murray were able to get their bat on the ball and move up the runner as they did was also very important in our win. When you are struggling a little at the plate it is important to do all of the other little things well, like getting timely hits and moving runners along and we were able to do that today."
