Pennridge Comments
Well the Lady Rams did what everyone was waiting for them to do - play the game they way they are capable. It was a great game in that the Rams come from behind to beat the defending state champion Hatters 6-3. Paige DeCew was the winning pitcher as she scattered 9 hits, registered 6 Ks, and only gave up 3 walks, all intentional to Val Sadowl. Trailing 2-0 in the top of the 4th, with runners are 2nd and 3rd, Haley Taylor dropped a bloop single into right field to score both runners and tie the game. The Hatters responded by getting a run in the bottom of the 5th to go up 3-2. Then in the top of the 6th, with 2 outs and a runner at 1st, Haley Taylor(3 for 4) laced a double to right center field. Head Coach Paul Koehler held courtesy runner Natalie Babik at 3rd. So with 2 outs and runners at 2nd and third, freshman first baseman Morgan Labs ripped the first Shaffer offering to the left centerfield fence. The ball hit the top of the fence, bounced up, came down and hit the top of the fence again, and then fell over the fence for a 3 run home run!! Alicia Phillips then followed witha triple down the right field line. The Hatters then lifted Shaffer and brought in Nicole Casagran. Phillips then scored on a wild pitch to put the Lady Rams up 6-3. In the bottom of the 6th, the Rams threw out lead off hitter Maria Spinosa as she tried to stretch a double to a triple. Alison Horne threw to Halye Taylor who relayed to Brooke Labs at third for the tag out. A fly ball to center and a DeCew K would end the 6th. DePietro led off the 7th for Hatboro with a single. James flew out to right and Shaffer flew out to center field. Sadowl was intentionally walked for the 3rd time and DeCew struck out the final batter for the win.
