Central Bucks West Comments
Central Bucks West took the field for the first time this spring in an away contest at Wissahickon High School. The Bucks started hitting early in this contest by scoring two runs on four hits in the first inning. They went on to add four runs in the second, one in the third and then exploded with nine runs in the fourth and final inning against Wissahickon. Ana Glemser also went three for four with three RBIs and hit a towering homerun to center field. Ana also scored four runs in the Bucks win. Like Laila and Ana, Jill Boyle also went three for four while batting leadoff. Jill scored three runs, stole a base and also drove in a run. Ana, Laila and Jill went nine for twelve with seven RBIs and eight runs scored. Shortstop Taylor Hooven also swung a hot bat going two for three with a run scored and an RBI. Taylor also played flawless in the field by turning three ground balls into outs. Freshmen catcher Sammy Hooven contributed an RBI single at the plate while throwing out a Wissahickon runner trying to steal a base. Avery Rubenstein, Elle Cooper, Charlotte Kerns, and Freshmen Evi Cherry also had hits for the Bucks in their first win of the season. Katherine James contributed a SAC fly RBI in the second inning driving in Elle Cooper. Making her first start of the season in the circle, Ana Glemser went three innings giving up two hits and two walks, striking out two Trojans hitters, while only allowing one run. Ana is now 1-0 on the season. Laila Murray pitched the fourth and final inning, allowing no hits and striking out one batter. Head Coach Mike Daher's comments, "I felt coming into this season that we were going to be a strong hitting team and that showed today. We have four hitters back from last year who hit at the top of our lineup a year ago, so we were very confident that Jill Boyle, Ana Glemser, Laila Murray, and Taylor Hooven would pick up where they left off last year and they did exactly that for us today. Katherine James, Sammy Hooven, Avery Rubenstein, Charlotte Kerns and Elle Cooper also showed that they could be tough outs this year. It was also our hope that we would play solid defense and get good pitching, and when both of those things happened today it added up to a good win against a competitive Wissahickon team and a good start to our season."
