SOL XC Runners Excel at Northeast Regionals

The Pennsbury girls’ team won the team competition at the Nike Northeast Regionals this weekend while CB East’s Jake Brophy finished second at the Foot Locker Northeast Regionals.

It’s mission accomplished for the Pennsbury girls’ cross country team.

The Falcons captured first place at the Nike Northeast Regionals in Wappingers Falls, N.Y., on Saturday, earning a coveted spot at the prestigious Nike Nationals in Portland, Oregon, on Dec. 5.

Senior Olivia Sargent, the PIAA Class AAA state champion, and Downingtown West junior Aislinn Devlin, the state runner-up, resumed their storied rivalry, and this time it was Devlin edging Sargent. Devlin posted a winning time of 17:54 while Sargent finished second with a time of 18:06.

Also turning in standout performances for the Falcons were Hannah Molloy (18:33) and Mary Webb (18:37), who finished fourth and fifth respectively. Meredith Twomey was 24th with a time of 19:23, and Maddie Sauer was 38th with a time of 19:42.

On the boys’ side, Central Bucks East senior Jake Brophy finished second at the Foot Locker Northeast Regionals at Van Cortlandt Park in New York on Saturday with a time of 15:27. Noah Affolder, a junior at Carthage High School in New York, finished first with a time of 15:23. Brophy will be traveling to San Diego to compete in the Foot Locker National Championships on Dec. 12.
