MEN’S BASKETBALL
Wes Brooks (North Penn) scored 19 points, which included three three-pointers, in McDaniel’s 66-56 win over No. 21 Dickinson in the Centennial Conference opener for both teams on Tuesday.
Sophomore Aaron Burton (Cheltenham) had 14 points in DeSales University’s 79-66 win over Moravian on Tuesday.
Julian Hyden (Bensalem) scored 13 points in Gwynedd Mercy’s 83-53 win at Marywood on Tuesday night in the CSAC opener for both teams.
Freshman guard Jimmy Murray (Plymouth Whitemarsh) scored a career-best 26 points in Moravian’s 86-81 non-conference win at Lebanon Valley on Sunday afternoon. He also had three steals. In Tuesday’s 79-66 loss to DeSales University, Murray had seven points, three rebounds and a pair of steals.
Ryan Arcidiacono (Neshaminy) contributed nine points and two assists in Villanova’s 69-52 win over Georgia Tech on Friday.
Julian Bond (Plymouth Whitemarsh) had nine points in Lock Haven’s PSAC win at Slippery Rock last Sunday.
Junior Anthony McKie (Plymouth Whitemarsh) connected on a pair of three-pointers and also had three assists in Bloomsburg’s 74-68 win at Lincoln University on Saturday.
WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
Senior Ciara Andrews (Cheltenham) In Tuesday’s Big 5 opener at Villanova, Andrews scored a game-high 18 points in the Hawks’ 55-49 loss to the Wildcats.
Freshman Nicole Munger (Central Bucks West) collected four of her team’s nine steals to lead the defense in Michigan’s 61-44 win over Oral Roberts on Sunday. She also had four rebounds, two points and two assists in 20 minutes of action. Michigan’s 6-0 start is its best since the 2011-12 season. In Friday’s 83-47 win over Hartford, Munger had seven points and five rebounds.
Sophomore Allison Gallagher (Souderton) contributed 10 points and five rebounds in Widener University’s 73-55 win over Wesley on Tuesday.
Sophomore Kaitlin Kelly (Pennsbury) had 13 points off the bench in DeSales University’s 81-74 loss to Moravian on Tuesday night.
Alvernia junior Tyra Roberts (Bensalem) was named Mimmo’s Athlete of the Week. The Bensalem graduate was named to the Max Ziel All-Tournament Team after the Crusaders played a pair of games in the tournament held at Oswego State University. Roberts picked up the double-double in game two against Oswego State, finishing with 12 points and 12 rebounds.
Junior guard Rachel Falkowski (Central Bucks South) scored a career high 11 points in East Stroudsburg’s 64-45 win over Chestnut Hill in the first day of the 51st Annual Pocono Classic on Saturday.
Sophomore Keifonna Ferguson (Norristown) set career highs with 10 points, five rebounds and two steals in 17 minutes off the bench in Kutztown’s 97-59 victory over Penn State Lehigh on Saturday. Freshman Taylor Thames (North Penn) played 26 minutes off the bench, recording season highs of eight points, three rebounds and three steals. In Tuesday’s 79-61 win over Chestnut Hill, Thames dished out seven assists, the highest for a Golden Bear this season.
Junior Lauren Crisler (North Penn) scored 10 points in American University’s 62-51 loss to William & Mary on Wednesday.
Senior Alex Wheatley (Council Rock North) had 10 points in No. 23 Princeton’s 85-48 win over Seattle in the championship game of the 2015 Loyola Marymount Thanksgiving Classic on Saturday. In Tuesday’s 78-59 win over Rider, Wheatley had 12 points.
Freshman Regie Robinson (Upper Merion) earned her second consecutive double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds in Eastern University’s 72-56 win over Messiah College on Tuesday.
Amie Eppolito (Pennsbury) scored 14 points in Cairn University’s 80-32 loss to Penn State Abington on Monday.
FOOTBALL
Freshman Josh Adams (Central Bucks South) rushed for 168 yards in No. 4 Notre Dame’s 38-36 loss to No. 13 Stanford on Saturday.
Senior wide receiver Brandon Shippen (Norristown) made three of his season-high four receptions on a drive that resulted in a field goal that gave Temple a 10-0 lead on its way to a 27-3 win over the University of Connecticut at Lincoln Financial Field on Saturday night. He finished with a team high 46 yards receiving.
Junior Matt Johns (Central Bucks South) completed 18-of-32 passes for 171 yards and a touchdown in Virginia’s 25-20 loss to Virginia Tech on Saturday.
WOMEN’S SOCCER
Penn State sophomore Megan Schafer (Neshaminy) was named to the TopDrawerSoccer Team of the
Week after tallying a five-point weekend in the second and third rounds of the NCAA Tournament. This is the first TopDrawerSoccer Team of the Week honor for Schafer. In the Nittany Lions’ 6-0 victory over Boston University, Schafer tallied a goal and an assist. She capped off the weekend netting her team-leading 13th goal of the season in a 4-0 win over Ohio State. Over the previous 14 matches, Schafer scored a goal in nine matches and tallied at least one point in 11 matches.
In a NCAA quarterfinal game on Friday, Penn State defeated West Virginia 2-0 to advance to the College Cup for the fifth time in program history. The shutout was the team’s sixth straight and 13th of the season. As a result of its win, Penn State (20-3-2) will meet Rutgers in the semifinals of the College Cup at WakeMed Soccer Park in Carey, N.C., on Friday at 5 p.m. The game will be televised on ESPNU.
Ursinus College sophomore Anna Budny (Council Rock North) and junior Erin Farrell (Neshaminy) were among the 63 who made history as part of the first ever Academic All-Centennial Conference Team. To be nominated, student-athletes must have received both all-conference and academic honor roll recognition.
A humanities major, Budny received honorable mention all-conference honors after a season in which she started all 19 contests as an integral member of a defense that produced nine clean sheets, including one in the first round of the CC playoffs when the Bears outlasted Gettysburg in penalty kicks.
Farrell, a psychology major, was named to the All-CC second team. She finished the season with six goals and two assists to tie for the team lead with 14 points. Three of her tallies were for game winners.
WOMEN’S SWIMMING
Senior Rachel Engelhardt (Hatboro-Horsham) helped propel Elizabethtown to a 130-75 win over Lebanon Valley last Monday night. The former Hatter took top honors in the 200 freestyle, 500 free and 200 free relay. Englehardt shattered her entry time in the 500 free with a 5:51.28.
