UPPER MERION 3, UPPER DUBLIN 1 (22-25, 25-12, 25-13, 25-16)
In the American Conference’s marquee match, the Flying Cardinals took the first set, but the Vikings owned the next three. With the win, the Vikings upped their record to 7-0 with a two-game lead over Upper Dublin, PW and Hatboro-Horsham.
Erin Brady and Carolyn Helenski led the comeback with 15 and 13 kills, respectively. Emily Shannon had an incredible 26 service points that included four aces. Carlye Odorisio filled the stat sheet with six kills, four aces, 10 digs and 27 assists.
Ashley Shannon anchored the defense with 17 digs followed by Emily Shannon with 14 and Emma Andraka with 10. Niki Carpenter slowed the Lady Cardinal offense with three block kills and numerous putbacks.
For the Flying Cardinals, setter Bryn Stek had two kills, 30 assists and 14 digs. Gabi Johnson had 16 digs while Gianna Perri had 11. Taylor Stek led the way at the net with 13 kills to go along with four digs. Melanie Phifer had 11 kills, and 19 digs while Jenny Mcananey added two kills and six digs.
“The girls did a great job staying aggressive at the net,” UD coach Paul Choi said. “They never gave up when they were down. Girls stepped up to keep each other focused even when things started to become rattled.”
PENNRIDGE 3, QUAKERTOWN 0 (25-13, 25-9, 25-10)
The Rams continued to roll in conference play, sweeping the visiting Panthers. Sophomore Steph Judkins had another big night, contributing 15 kills and eight digs. Setter Meghan Keefe had 23 assists and six aces while Kelly Bergen had five aces and 12 digs. Middles Ariana Pryzbylowski and Lauren Drugotch combined for 10 kills.
For the Panthers, Haley Sheehan had seven kills and three digs while Katelyn Spieker had five kills. Lindsay Beck led the defense with nine digs.
Pennridge will have a big match Wednesday with Southern Lehigh.
COUNCIL ROCK SOUTH 3, NESHAMINY 1
The Golden Hawks, according to coach Kelly Korn, used an all-around team effort to defeat the visiting Redskins.
Senior setter Melissa Nicholas ran the floor with 14 assists and, according to Korn, “phenomenal court control.” Senior libero Emily Liu dug up 13 attacks. Senior outside hitter Ally Goodwin closed game four with a 10-point service run that included seven aces.
Senior outside hitter Sarah Lamon contributed seven kills, and senior middle hitter Donna Spiteri stepped in with five kills and five blocks.
PENNSBURY 3, WILLIAM TENNENT 1 (25-22, 18-25, 25-16, 25-17)
The shorthanded Panthers put up a fight, but the Falcons had too many weapons. Elle Patterson had another huge night at the net, contributing 21 kills to go along with 11 digs. Brandi Steiner also turned in a clutch performance with nine kills and a team-high 20 digs. Lauren Bransfield had five kills. Dagny Gould added 14 digs while Kate Foley had eight digs and three kills, and Ava Patterson, six digs and three kills.
“Tennent played really well – great defense,” Pennsbury coach Michael Falter said. “Elle Patterson and Brandi Steiner had a big night for us offensively and put the ball away at key points.”
Maddie Richard led the Panthers defensively with 32 digs while Jamie George had 14. Alex Koppany had 25 assists, four kills and three blocks. Cassie McCarney, according to coach Brian Bassler, turned in her best performance of the season with eight kills while Sydney Turgyan had seven.
“We played extremely gutsy and hard,” said Bassler, whose team has lost its top two hitters – Amber Wood and Jaime Bonner – for the season. “I was really impressed with how our defense played and how our girls fought.
“We’re not getting the results in the win-loss column, but I am thrilled with the heart we play with. They really give it their all. Not often do I go home happy after a loss, but they really showed me something tonight.”
CENTRAL BUCKS SOUTH 3, CENTRAL BUCKS WEST 1 (21-25, 25-23, 25-21, 25-11)
Megan Manderson and Erin Cleary led a strong service game for the Titans as both delivered four aces and at least six out-of-system serves. Taylor Danilowicz and Sarah Poli each had six kills.
“Erin Cleary keeps getting better at finding the right hitters at the right time,” said coach Ulana Keer of her setter, who had 12 assists. “Briana Bannach, Sarah Poli and Larissa Keer worked to keep our passes in place so our hitters could hit.”
Keer had 12 digs, Poli added seven and Bannach had four.
“At the net, we had Meghan Dunn, Megan Manderson, Eryn Cleary and Sara Ecklemeyer working hard to stop their number 14,” Keer said.
Both players had two blocks.
For the Bucks, Sophia Videva had 21 kills, eight digs and five service aces in a big night. Julia Schweinbenz added seven kills, 16 digs and two aces while setter Kayla King had 12 digs and 34 assists. Kelly McKinstry led the defense with 19 digs while Sophie Caffrey had nine.
ABINGTON 3, WISSAHICKON 0 (25-11, 25-14, 25-16)
The Ghosts received big performances from Carley Cooper (15 assists, four kills, four digs, three aces), Leah Simmons (eight kills, nine digs, one block, one ace), Claire Gassman (eight kills, four aces, two blocks, four digs) and Jamie Kidd (nine digs, two assists, two aces). Sarah Donahue had four aces and one kill.
HATBORO-HORSHAM 3, CHELTENHAM 0 (25-12, 25-19, 25-7)
The Lady Hatters swept the Lady Panthers on Tuesday. The entire team contributed to the win. The offense was led by junior Jaimee Stoczko with nine kills, senior Sam Jones with eight kills and junior Jen Nesbitt with six kills. Senior Candyce Riley dished out 16 assists and junior Christine Ruffin another 11. On defense, Riley had four digs, sophomore Allison Laucella and Jones each had three.
CENTRAL BUCKS EAST 3, SOUDERTON 0 (25-15, 25-20, 25-17)
Savannah Bostwick led the Indians’ defensively with 14 digs. Monica Miller (six kills) and Megan Freed (four kills) led the Indians at the net. Cori Watson had 14 assists, and Alexa Spause had three aces.
