WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
Aly Hinton (Council Rock North) joined the Southern New Hampshire University women’s basketball staff prior to the 2014-15 academic year. Prior to coming to SNHU, Hinton played professionally from 2010-14 in Israel. During her four years, she was a member of three championship teams, capturing First Division titles with Elzur Ramla in 2010-11 and M.S. Ashdod, Israel, in 2013-14, as well as a Second Division crown with Hapoel Galil Elyon, Israel, in 2011-12. Hinton also played for the Israeli National Team in 2012.
A graduate of Boston University, Hinton played four seasons for the Terriers, totaling 1,074 points and 711 rebounds over her four seasons, making her one of just four players in program history with at least 1,000 points and 700 rebounds at the conclusion of her career. She is also the program leader in games played with 126. A two-time America East Academic Honor Roll member, Hinton was a member of the league’s All-Rookie Team in 2007. Hinton graduated from BU in 2009 with a B.A. in Psychology and went on to earn her Masters in Education, Counseling with a specialization in Sports Psychology in 2010. She has worked numerous basketball camps and is the founder of PrimeTime Performance, which creates and delivers programs to athletes to improve mental acuity and increase performance.
MEN’S CROSS COUNTRY
Cairn University sophomore Matt DeFlavis (Hatboro-Horsham) ran his own PR of 31:40 in the 6K race at the Dickinson Long/Short Invitational Saturday. Senior Wayne Hailstone (Quakertown) posted a time of 34:04.
La Salle sophomore Chris Berry (Central Bucks West) led the Explorers with a 46th place finish out of 119 runners in the 2014 Main Line Invitational on Thursday.
Penn State Abington junior Alexander Kane (Central Bucks East) was named the NEAC Men’s Cross Country Runner of the Week for the week ending Sept. 21. The junior has finished no worse than eighth at all four events he has competed in and was recognized for taking eighth place out of 233 runners at the Dickinson College Invitational that featured multiple nationally ranked teams throughout the NCAA Division I, II and III levels. Kane finished the eight-kilometer course in a personal best time of 26:21.06, which also placed him in the top 10 finishes in Abington program history. The Nittany Lions finished the day in 16th place out of 48 teams.
Kane finished 17th on the 8-kilometer course with a time of 25:58.4 at the Don Cathcart Invitational hosted by Salisbury University on Saturday. Senior Nicholas Volpe (William Tennent) crossed the line in 28:31.8 for the 109th place.
Shippensburg freshman Alex Balla (Quakertown) finished 19th with a time of 26:37.87 in the 8K race at the Dickinson Short/Long Invitational on Saturday. Teammate Alec Brand (Central Bucks East) finished 28th with a time of 27:02.36. Shippensburg placed second as a team.
Widener senior Jason Caporale (Neshaminy) finished 53rd with a time of 20:56.10 at the Main Line Invitational on Thursday.
WOMEN’S CROSS COUNTRY
Cairn senior Hannah Eichner (Cheltenham) posted a time of 21:45 in the 4K race at the Dickinson Long/Short Invitational on Saturday.
Gwynedd Mercy freshman Brittany Finn (Upper Moreland) finished 20th with sophomore Hannah Geiger (Council Rock South) right behind her in 21st at the Messiah Invitational on Saturday. The Griffins finished second out of nine teams.
Natalie Ross (Souderton) finished sixth out of Messiah’s runners with a time of 25:42.20 at the Messiah Invitational on Saturday. Leah Novak (Souderton) was ninth with a time of 26:09.80. Messiah finished first in the team standings.
Shippensburg sophomore Sarah Latch (Central Bucks East) posted a time of 24:39.92 to finish 51st in the 6K race at the Dickinson Long/Short Invitational Saturday. Shippensburg finished fifth as a team.
Kutztown senior Elizabeth McLaughlin (Upper Dublin) and redshirt senior Carolyn Fergus (North Penn) finished 58th (24:17.63) and 71st (24:36.10) respectively in the field of 159 runners at the Don Cathcart Invitational at Salisbury University.
Temple sophomore Megan Schneider (Hatboro-Horsham) posted a time of 20:29.92 in the 5K Ted Owen Invitational on Saturday to finish 56th. Louise Huuki (Central Bucks East) was 64th with a time of 21:04.70.
FIELD HOCKEY
Emily Hawkins (Cheltenham) established a new school record with 17 saves in Keystone College’s 3-1 loss to Kean University on Tuesday night. Included in those 17 saves were two stops of penalty strokes. Kean held a 28-1 advantage in shots in the first half, but the two teams were locked in a scoreless tie. Kean solved the mystery of Hawkins on their 33rd shot of the game. The Cougars had a chance to double their lead in the 43rd minute of the game, but Hawkins stopped her second penalty stroke. For the game, Kean held a 47-3 advantage in shots and a 17-1 advantage in penalty corners. The Cheltenham grad is listed as the career record holder by the National Federation of State High Schools Association with 1,176 saves during her four-year career from 2011-14.
Freshman Carlie Baldus (Hatboro-Horsham) scored her second goal of the season in Delaware Valley’s 3-0 win over Widener on Tuesday.
Gwynedd Mercy junior Katie O’Neill (Council Rock North) was selected to the Colonial States Athletic Conference Honor Roll for the week ending Sept. 21. The CR North grad racked up three goals in a 2-0 week for Gwynedd, notching a pair of goals in the team’s 5-0 win over Widener. She capped a come-from-behind win over DeSales on Saturday by scoring the eventual game winner with under 10 minutes in regulation, helping GM to its fourth straight victory. On the year, she has four goals in six games, two of which were game winners, the other coming in a 2-1 win over Alvernia earlier this season.
O’Neill tied a personal best with three assists in Gwynedd Mercy’s 9-1 win over Notre Dame (Md.) on Friday. Freshman Abigail Gabriel (Souderton) contributed a goal.
Providence freshman Megan Hamilton (Central Bucks South) earned a spot on the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll for the second straight week. The CB South grad led the Friars’ offensive attack with five points on two goals and one assist. She was credited with the game-winning goal in a 3-1 win over New Hampshire on Sept. 19. She followed that with one goal and one assist in an 8-0 win over Columbia. Hamilton has scored at least one goal in each of the last three games.
Hamilton contributed an assist in Providence’s 4-2 win over Miami on Sunday. The win upped the Friars’ record to 7-3 on the year. In Friday’s 3-2 win at Maine, Hamilton recorded the first hat trick of her collegiate career. She scored in the 41st and 55th minute to give the Friars a 2-1 lead. The first was unassisted as she collected a rebound and knocked it home. The second was a deflection off a penalty corner. After Maine tied the game, Hamilton completed the hat trick with the game-winning goal in the 61st minute, redirecting a drive from just outside the circle into the cage. It was Hamilton’s fourth straight game with a goal.
Sophomores Gabby Tofig (Council Rock North) scored a pair of goals in Lehigh’s 4-2 win over Sacred Heart on Sunday. The CR North grad has scored seven goals over the last five games. In recognition of her accomplishments, Tofig was named to the Patriot League Honor Roll for the second consecutive week. The Mountain Hawks have won four of the last five games and three straight. In Saturday’s 3-1 win over Holy Cross, Tofig and Marissa Glatt (Central Bucks East) both scored goals.
Becky Ely (Council Rock North) was credited with an assist in Messiah’s 7-4 win over Stevenson on Saturday.
Senior Maddy Harding (Central Bucks South) scored a goal in Villanova’s 5-2 win over Saint Joseph’s last Sunday. Junior Kayla Kenney (Central Bucks South) stole a Hawk pass to set up a three-on-one that resulted in a goal.

Goalie Kelly Schlupp (Council Rock South) collected three saves in The College of New Jersey’s 3-1 loss to Salisbury on Saturday. It was TCNJ’s first loss of the season. In TCNJ’s 4-1 win at Gwynedd Mercy on Tuesday, Schlupp made just one save in earning the win.

Shannon Mayer (Norristown) had five receptions for 73 yards and one touchdown while Mike Doty (Central Bucks South) had three catches for 55 yards and a touchdown in No. 10 West Chester’s 62-7 win over Millersville on Saturday. Placekicker/punter Rich Bruno (Council Rock South) made eight extra points, two shy of the school record and the most since Shawn Leo made eight against Cheyney last fall. Andrew Derr (Upper Dublin) played most of the second half, completing 2-of-2 passes for 31 yards. Andrew Cohen (Council Rock South) had six tackles, including a pair of sacks. He broke up a pass and registered a pair of QB hurries. Ralph Reeves (North Penn) posted four tackles starting in place of the injured Ronell Williams at middle linebacker.
Senior Craig Needhammer (North Penn) had 105 yards on 26 carries in No. 22 Lycoming’s 27-14 win over Wilkes on Saturday. Junior Josh Cook (North Penn) contributed a sack for a 10-yard loss, and senior John Sibel (Pennsbury) hauled in a 39-yard touchdown pass.
Sophomore running back Corey Kelly (Plymouth Whitemarsh) ran for 145 yards and one touchdown on 24 carries in Ursinus College’s 42-13 win over McDaniel on Saturday.

Quarterback Bruce Campbell (Pennsbury) was 2-for-2 for 33 yards in relief of starter Matt Soltes in East Stroudsburg’s 48-21 win over Lock Haven on Saturday.
Freshman kicker Alec Rosenfeld (Bensalem) made all nine of his extra-point attempts and also connected on all three of his field goal attempts in Kutztown’s 74-0 win over Cheyney University on Saturday. Included in his three field goals was a career-best 44-yarder. It was the first three field goal game for a Golden Bear since 2010. The 74 points was a school record.
MEN’S GOLF
Senior Matt Teesdale (Hatboro-Horsham) carded an even-par 72 to tie for seventh overall in leading Temple to fourth place after the first day of competition at the Quechee Club Invitational on Saturday. Teesdale was four back of the leader. In the Hartford Hawk Invitational earlier in the week, senior Alec Kissel (Plymouth Whitemarsh) shot a 239 to finish in a tie for 76th place. Temple finished fourth as a team.

Middlebury senior Jordan Glatt (Central Bucks East) placed eighth out of 58 golfers at the Middlebury Invitational/NESCAC Tournament with a total score of 160 (78-82). The 11-team event took place at the Ralph Myhre Golf Course on the Middlebury College campus on Sept. 27 and 28 with the home team coming in second place. Last weekend, Glatt carded a 161 (81-80) to place 11th at the Mount Holyoke Invitational Tournament. Middlebury finished third as a team.

Tyler Afflerbach (Souderton) made four saves to record his fourth shutout of the season and 10th of his career in La Salle’s 3-0 win over Fairleigh Dickinson on Saturday.
Kyle MacDonald (Pennsbury) was part of a give-and-go in the middle of the field that ultimately led to the game winner in No. 7 Penn State’s 1-0 win over Michigan on Sunday. In Wednesday’s 6-2 win over Penn, MacDonald contributed an assist.
Dan Saint-Pol (Pennridge) saved four shots and posted his first shutout of the season in Penn State Abington’s 2-0 win over Cazenovia last Saturday.

Senior Kim Kisselback (Neshaminy) recorded her sixth goal of the season in the 87th minute of Holy Family’s 3-1 win over Post on Saturday afternoon. In Tuesday’s 1-0 win over Georgian Court, Kisselback converted a penalty kick in the 37th minute. The score was her fifth of the season, setting a new career high. She scored four goals in 2011 as a freshman.
Erin Lafferty (Upper Dublin) scored on a free kick from 25 yards out at the 72:48 mark of Temple’s 2-1 win at Cincinnati on Friday night. “Just unbelievable, greatest night ever for Temple women’s soccer I believe,” said head coach Seamus O’Connor. “It was an intimidating big noisy crowd. Erin Lafferty’s goal might have been one of the most beautiful goals I’ve ever seen and deserves the top play of the week.” In last Sunday’s 3-2 overtime heartbreaker to city rival La Salle, Alyssa Kirk (Neshaminy) scored off a corner to tie the game 2-2.
Megan Gerhart (North Penn) recorded four saves in Virginia Wesleyan’s 1-0 shutout win over Shenandoah on Saturday. In Thursday’s 2-0 loss to No. 6 Lynchburg, Gerhart recorded five saves. Rookie Zoe Traficante (Central Bucks West) was part of a defensive unit that helped contain the Lynchburg offense through 61 minutes before the Hornets scored a pair of late goals.

Penn State Abington freshman Mohammed Ammouni (Bensalem) had an unprecedented performance at the USTA-ITA Southeast Regional Championships on Saturday, becoming the first Nittany Lion to earn a first round win to advance to the Round of 32 in singles play in the Championship Singles draw. Ammouni, who was not seeded, opened the first round with a 6-2, 4-6, 6-1 win over Ryan Byrd of Randolph-Macon College, It was the furthest Ammouni would go as he withdrew from the competition with an injury during the first set to second seed Alla Abhishek of Carnegie Mellon. In Wednesday’s 9-0 win over Eastern, Ammouni won 8-2 at No. 1 doubles and also earned a 6-1, 6-0 win at first singles.
WOMEN’S TENNIS
Penn State Abington sophomore Honoro Hegarty (Abington) was chosen the NEAC West Women’s Tennis Player of the Week for the week ending Sept. 21. Hegarty, last year’s NEAC Rookie of the Year, won four matches en route to helping her squad to a pair of victories. The sophomore opened the week with a pair of wins out of the No. 1 position during Abington’s 8-1 win over Cairn University, teaming with junior Sheena Philip for an 8-4 win in first doubles before winning a three-set battle in first singles (0-6, 7-5, 6-2). She would repeat those triumphs to help Abington squeak out a 5-4 win over Sarah Lawrence College, again teaming with Philip for an 8-2 win in first doubles before sweeping first singles 6-0, 6-1. The two wins kept the Nittany Lions undefeated at 4-0 on the season.
Sophomore Vicki Norman (Upper Merion) and Kady Wvagon (Neshaminy) did not allow a point in Kutztown’s two 7-0 wins over Cheyney at second doubles in Saturday’s season opener.
Bloomsburg’s Lindsey Tennis (Quakertown) earned a 6-0, 6-0 win in the opening round of singles action in the Bloomsburg University Women’s Tennis Invitational on Saturday. She also was part of the doubles team that earned an 8-1 win in round three of the doubles competition.
East Stroudsburg senior Allison Bean (Neshaminy) earned a pair of wins in singles competition at the Bloomsburg Fall Invitational, earning a 6-1, 6-4 win over Shippensburg’s Emily Cox and a 6-4, 2-6, 10-2 win over Bloomsburg’s Cat Garrity. She dropped her match to Wilkes’ Taylor Hoffmann (6-1, 6-1). Bean also was part of the doubles team that earned an 8-2 win over a team from Shippensburg.

Casey Griffith (Upper Merion) was credited with 25 digs in UMBC’s 3-1 win over Howard on Friday.
Freshman Melanie Ingram (Upper Merion) had seven kills and seven digs in Holy Family’s 3-2 win at
Concordia College on Saturday afternoon. Senior Devyn Ingram (Upper Merion) filled the stat sheet with three kills, 13 assists, 10 digs and two service aces. In Wednesday night’s 3-1 win over Georgian Court, Devyn Ingram tallied 11 kills while Melanie Ingram added eight kills and a team-high 13 digs.
Junior Cassidy Koenig (Upper Merion) posted 24 assists to go with her eight digs in Cabrini’s 3-0 win over Baptist Bible College on Saturday. In Thursday’s 3-0 win at Gwynedd Mercy, Koenig directed the attack in the first two sets, recording 20 assists.
Julie Harvey (Hatboro-Horsham) led Franklin & Marshall to two victories on Saturday at the Mayser Center. The Diplomats downed Ursinus 3-1 and took down Muskingum 3-1. In the win over Ursinus, Harvey finished with 12 kills, two solo blocks and a .524 hitting percentage. She had 10 kills in the Diplomats’ win over Muskingum. In F&M’s 3-0 loss to Swarthmore on Wednesday, Harvey led the Diplomats with 10 kills.
Sophomore Sam Nelson (Central Bucks West) was credited with 40 assists in Penn State Abington’s 3-2 win over Albright College on Saturday. In the Nittany Lions’ 3-0 loss to Fairleigh Dickinson, Nelson was credited with 21 assists.
Stephanie Elechko (North Penn) contributed 11 kills in No. 14 Eastern University’s 3-2 upset at the hands of unranked Haverford on Saturday. In Eastern’s 3-0 win over Widener later that day, Elechko had eight kills. In Friday’s 3-0 win over Salisbury University, Elechko had eight kills and hit .500 for the match. In Tuesday’s 3-0 win over King’s College, Elechko had six kills and three solo blocks.
Taylor McCartney (Pennsbury) had nine kills to lead Ursinus College in its 3-1 loss to Franklin & Marshall on Saturday. In Tuesday’s 3-2 win over Immaculata, McCartney delivered two straight kills to give the Bears a 15-14 lead in the fifth and deciding set. They went on to win 17-15. McCartney finished with 13 kills.
Senior tri-captain Devon Maugle (Plymouth Whitemarsh) had seven kills and 14 digs in UConn’s 3-0 win over Temple on Wednesday night.
Audrey Stringer (Pennsbury) had 12 kills and teammate Cara Reilly (Pennsbury) added six kills in Kutztown’s 3-1 loss to Lock Haven on Saturday. In the Golden Bears’ 3-2 win over Daemen on Saturday, Reilly recorded a career-high 12 kills while Stringer added nine. In Friday’s 3-2 win over reigning PSAC champions University of Pitt-Johnstown with a 20-18 win in the fifth set, Stringer had 11 kills, including the kill that put the Golden Bears ahead 19-18 in the final set.
