BASEBALL
Freshman Sam Spadea (Pennsbury) was 2-for-4 with a double and three RBIs in Cairn University’s 9-8 loss to Penn State Behrend last Monday in Fort Pierce, Fla. In last Saturday’s 6-2 win over Penn State Mont Alto, Spadea had a hit and two RBIs. In Cairn’s 6-5 loss to Albright, Spadea was 2-for-3 with a solo home run.
Freshman right-hander Nick Dean (Bensalem) notched the best start of his career in the University of Maryland’s 8-3 win over Bryant last Saturday, allowing three hits and striking out six in six shutout innings.
Stephen Aldrich (Bensalem) earned his first career save in Monmouth’s 4-2 win over George Washington last Sunday. The Bensalem graduate struck out a pair in two perfect innings of relief.
Mike Christy (North Penn) had two hits, including a triple, and scored two runs in Elizabethtown’s 20-7 win over Muskingum in Fort Pierce, Fla.
Senior Shaun Stackhouse (Council Rock North) reached base three times and scored three runs while collecting steal number 10 and 11 on the season in Cabrini’s 13-7 loss to No. 23 Rowan University last Saturday.
Gwynedd Mercy sophomore TJ Brasier (Harry S Truman) was named to the Atlantic East Honor Roll for the week ending March 1. Brasier batted .556, going 5-for-9 with three doubles, three RBIs, two runs scored and a walk with an .889 slugging percentage in a pair of games last week. At nationally-ranked Johns Hopkins, he was 2-for-5 with a double. The baseball team then headed to Florida where in the team’s first game against Hanover, Brasier was 3-for-4 with three RBIs and a run scored to key Gwynedd’s 13-7 win.
Brasier, Nick Price (Pennsbury), Shaun Thomas (Hatboro-Horsham) and Billy Collins (North Penn) each contributed a single in Gwynedd Mercy’s 8-7 loss to The College of New Jersey in 10 innings on Monday. Brasier drove in a run while Price walked twice and scored a pair of runs. In Gwynedd Mercy’s 10-4 loss to Rose-Hulman during its spring training trip to Auburndale, Fla., Brasier and Price both had a pair of hits. Brasier added a two-run single in the eighth inning. In Gwynedd’s 13-7 win over Hanover in the team’s first game of its Florida trip, Brasier had three hits. Brasier helped key an eight-run sixth with a two-run single.
Brendan Giampa (Souderton) came in to pitch the seventh and allowed a hit and a walk but closed the game with a fly out and strikeout to earn his second save of the season in Delaware Valley’s 3-1 win over Immaculata in game two of a doubleheader split on Wednesday in Fort Pierce, Fla. In last Saturday’s 4-1 win over Houghton College, Giampa came in for the save in the seventh, allowing a sacrifice fly before striking out two batters to end the game.
Freshman Trey Obarowski (Council Rock South) was 2-for-3 with a triple and RBI in Arcadia’s 6-4 loss to Oswego last Sunday. In last Saturday’s 11-5 loss to Salve Regina, Justin Massielo (Pennsbury) recorded two hits with a run scored. In Arcadia’s 1-0 win over Scranton, Matt Ernst (Central Bucks East) was 1-for-2 with a walk.
Penn State Abington junior Ryan McCarty (Pennsbury) was named the North Eastern Athletic Conference Player of the Week for the week ending March 1. The junior went 4-for-10 in the series against Guilford College and knocked two home runs, scored five runs and had five RBIs. McCarty also earned his first win of the season on the mound in a 17-3 victory on the final day of the weekend series against Guilford.
McCarty was 2-for-4 with a double and RBI in Penn State Abington’s 7-3 loss to Beloit on Saturday in the final game of the season on the team’s spring training trip to Florida. The Pennsbury alum led the Nittany Lions with a .393 batting average (22-for-56, 4 2B, 1 3B, 2 HR, 9 RBIs) in the abbreviated season. In Friday’s 3-1 win over Dickinson in game one of a twinbill sweep, McCarty was 2-for-4 with a double and RBI. In the Nittany Lions’ 5-1 win over Westfield State, McCarty was 2-for-4 with two RBIs, a run scored and a stolen base.
Christian Buchler (Pennsbury) tossed six innings and earned the win in Widener’s 10-8 win over Clark in Auburndale, Fla., allowing four runs and striking out five in his collegiate debut.
Jake Jones (Neshaminy) hit a pair of home runs in Eastern University’s 16-0 rout of Eastern Mennonite University in Myrtle Beach, S.C. He finished the game 3-for-5 with five RBIs and three runs scored.
Derek Freed (Souderton) threw a scoreless inning in relief to earn the win in Messiah’s 11-9 victory over Franklin & Marshall on Monday.
Jerry Scavone (Neshaminy) had an RBI single in Ursinus College’s 12-8 win over Suffolk in game two of a doubleheader split on Friday in Sanford, Fla. In Monday’s 5-1 over Mount Union in a twinbill split, Scavone contributed an RBI double. In the Bears’ 6-1 win over Beloit last Saturday, Scavone was 3-for-4 with a double and RBI. In the Bears’ 5-3 win over TCNJ, Scavone was 2-for-3 with a run scored.

He also had a sacrifice fly to finish the game with five RBIs. In West Chester’s 3-1 win over Saint Thomas Aquinas, Horn went 2-for-4 with a walk.
Junior CJ Goodz (William Tennent) doubled and scored a run in Jefferson University’s 2-1 win over Franklin Pierce in nine innings last Sunday in Cary, N.C. In Jefferson’s 10-8 win over West Virginia State, Goodz was 3-for-4 with a double, RBI and run scored.
Junior Andrew Dietz (Central Bucks South) was 2-for-3 with a double and RBI in Chestnut Hill’s 5-2 loss to Florida Memorial University in game one of a doubleheader split last Saturday in Miami Gardens, Fla. In the Griffins’ 3-1 win later in the day, Billy Bethel (Pennsbury) was credited with the win, allowing two hits in 2.1 scoreless innings in relief while striking out a pair. Zach Szumigala (Pennsbury) recorded the save with a scoreless inning of relief. In Chestnut Hill’s 5-4 loss in 14 innings to Barry University, Dietz had a pair of hits and one RBI. In the Griffins’ 9-0 win over Barry, Szumigala retired six of the eight batters he faced in relief to close out the win. Dietz singled and drove in a run.
Sophomore JP Nolan (Abington) got the start on the mound in East Stroudsburg’s 13-2 win over the University of the Sciences in game two of a twinbill sweep. He tossed four innings of shutout baseball to earn the win, allowing just one hit and fanned a pair of batters. In ESU’s 12-0 win over Bloomfield, Nolan tossed the final inning, fanning three of four batters he faced to close the contest. In a 3-3 draw with Bloomfield, senior Tyler Guidos (Quakertown) tossed the final two innings out of the bullpen and worked a clean fifth inning before allowing one run to score in the top of the sixth. He struck out four. In ESU’s 2-2 draw against Bloomfield, Guidos got the Warriors out of the jam defensively in the sixth inning after entering with a pair of runners on base and one out. Guidos got a groundball to second before fanning the next batter to end the inning. Sophomore Justin Guidos (Quakertown) worked a clean eighth inning, registering a pair of strikeouts. In the Warriors’ 11-0 win over IUP in game one of a doubleheader sweep, Nolan threw a scoreless inning out of the bullpen. In ESU’s 15-1 win over IUP in game two, Tyler Guidos and Justin Guidos each threw a scoreless inning in relief. Tyler struck out three and Justin had one strikeout.
Andrew Mayhew (Pennridge) earned the win in Millersville’s 15-7 win over LeMoyne in game two of a doubleheader split last Saturday, striking out four in 2.1 scoreless innings of relief while not allowing a hit.
Senior Cole Swiger (Upper Dublin) was 2-for-3 with a solo home run, three RBIs and two runs in Bloomsburg’s 9-5 win over Goldey-Beacom in game one of a doubleheader sweep on Sunday. In last Saturday’s 7-4 victory over Goldey-Beacom in game one of a twinbill sweep, Swiger was 1-for-2 with a home run, two RBIs and one run scored. In the Huskies 12-3 win in game two, Swiger was 2-for-4 with a double, RBI and run scored. Junior CJ Kilgarriff (Council Rock North) pitched the first two innings of his Huskies’ career to close out the contest.
Shane Ostrowsky (Pennsbury) pitched eight innings in Alvernia’s 10-1 win over Thiel in Ft. Myers, Fla. The Pennsbury graduate earned the win, striking out four and walking none.
MEN’S BASKETBALL
Senior Riley Thompson (Council Rock North) had 11 points in Ithaca College’s 86-78 loss to Swarthmore, the No. 1 team in Division III, in a NCAA second round matchup last Saturday. In Ithaca’s 94-88 opening round win over Babson College, Thompson scored 26 points on 10-of-22 shooting from the floor to go along with three steals and three assists.
Shane Ford (Wissahickon) scored 13 points in Gwynedd Mercy’s 82-71 semifinal victory over Baruch in the 2020 ECAC Championships. Ford’s 3-pointer at the 15:14 mark of the second put the Griffins ahead for good, igniting a 20-5 spurt over the next five minutes.
West Chester freshman guard Robbie Heath (Abington) was named to the Division II Conference Commissioners Association’s first team All-
Atlantic Region team. Heath earned PSAC first team honors and was also named PSAC Freshman of the Year after a season in which he led the conference by a wide margin at 24.6 points per game. Heath finished the season ranked ninth in Division II in scoring and first on West Chester in rebounds (7.3), steals (1.6) and assists (2.6) per game. Heath scored 50 points in a 100-97 win over Bloomsburg. He became the first West Chester player since 1952 to reach 50 points in a game. The Golden Rams had a 20-10 record this season and earned a spot in the PSAC Tournament.
Heath was named Division II National Player of the Week and PSAC East Division Athlete of the Week after posting a double-double in two games for the week ending March 1. Over the last seven games, Heath was averaging 32.3 points and 8.1 rebounds. Heath had 26 points and 13 rebounds in an 86-69 win over Millersville and followed that up with 39 points and 10 rebounds in a 103-87 loss at East Stroudsburg. Heath averaged five assists and 3.5 steals in the two games while shooting 59.5 percent from the floor, including 7-of-10 makes from three-point range. He played 67 minutes total this past week. Heath broke the West Chester men’s basketball single-season record and the PSAC freshman single-season record by reaching 659 points on the season.
Heath scored a game-high 20 points and grabbed a team-best seven rebounds in West Chester’s 86-74 loss to East Stroudsburg in a PSAC quarterfinal round contest. It was his 22nd 20-point game or better this season. His 712 points on the year is the new single-season standard at West Chester, ranks ninth in PSAC history and is the top single-season mark in the conference as well. His 24.6 points per game average leads the PSAC and shattered a school record that stood for 52 years. Pete Chambers held the old record of 23.7 ppg set in 1967-68. In West Chester’s 83-73 win over Lock Haven in an opening round game, Heath led all scorers with 33 points, connecting on 13-of-22 field goals and 5-of-8 three-pointers.
WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
Jefferson University senior Alynna Williams (Plymouth Whitemarsh) was named to the D2CCA All-East Region second team. The PW
graduate led the CACC in scoring and ranks 19th in the nation with 19.9 points per game. She is also tied for second in the conference in three-pointers (83) and ranks fourth in free throw percentage (82.3). Williams has gone over 30 points a game four times, including a season-high 37 versus Shippensburg. Williams was selected the CACC tournament MVP after leading the Rams to their second straight conference title. She was also a first team All-CACC honoree. Williams was chosen CACC Player of the Week for the week ending March 1 for the second consecutive week and fourth time this season. She averaged 30.0 points, 2.0 rebounds and 2.0 steals over two games. Williams shot 52.2 percent 924-46) for the week, 47.6 percent (10-21) from three. The senior scored 28 at Goldey-Beacom and then had her fourth 30-point game of the year with 32 against Holy Family. She also was a five-time member of the CACC Honor Roll.
Jefferson University freshman Haley Meinel (Central Bucks South) was named the CACC Defensive Player of the Week and CACC Co-Rookie of the Week for the week ending March 1. Meinel received defensive accolades for the second week in a row. She averaged 16.5 points, 7.5 steals, 2.5 rebounds and 3.0 assists over two games. Meinel shot 56 percent (14-25) for the week. The freshman recorded 15 points and a season-high eight steals at Goldey-Beacom. She added 18 points and seven steals against Holy Family.
Williams led all scorers with 23 points and also had four assists, two steals and two rebounds in Jefferson’s 63-59 win over Holy Family in last Sunday’s CACC championship game. The senior shot 5-of-8 from three and became the Rams’ all-time leader in 3-pointers. She has 243 for her career and surpassed former teammate Rachel Day (239). Meinel finished with 13 points, four assists, three steals, two blocks and two rebounds. Sabria Lytes (Harry S Truman) totaled 12 points, nine boards and three steals. Williams was chosen tournament MVP. She was joined on the All-Tournament team by Lytes and Meinel. Williams previously earned All-Tournament honors in 2018. In Jefferson’s upset of No. 14 University of the Sciences in last Saturday’s semifinals, Lytes finished with a career-high 19 points and eight rebounds. She was 6-of-12 from the floor and 7-of-10 from the line. Meinel scored 17 points on 7-of-11 shooting. She grabbed six boards, and Williams tallied 10 points, four rebounds and three assists. In Jefferson’s 73-70 quarterfinal win over Dominican, Williams had a team-high 19 points and added five rebounds and three assists. She shot 4-of-8 from beyond the arc. Lytes totaled 14 points on 6-of-8 shooting. She also grabbed six rebounds. Meinel tallied 12 points, six boards, four steals and two assists.
Emory University senior Allison Chernow (Upper Dublin) earned second team All-University Athletic Association honors for the second consecutive season. The UD alum played in 24 of the team’s 25 contests, making 20 starts and leading the Eagles with 27.7 minutes per contest. Chernow finished her senior season tied for second on the team with 11.0 points per game. In 14 of her 24 games, Chernow produced 10 or more points, including three 20-plus scoring outings during UAA play and had a season-high 23 points in the team’s overtime defeat at WashU. Chernow came in a tie for third on the squad with 4.2 rebounds per game, corralling a season-best 11 rebounds in the team’s 52-39 win over Lynchburg. She helped lift to the team to its second straight 19-win campaign as the Eagles concluded the 2019-20 season with a 19-6 record. Emory came in a tie for second place in the league standings, posting a 10-4 UAA mark.
Sophomore Taylor O’Brien (Plymouth Whitemarsh) scored 17 points in Bucknell’s 87-61 win over Army West Point in a quarterfinal game of the Patriot League Tournament on Monday.
Temple University redshirt sophomore Ashley Jones (Cheltenham) was named the American Athletic Conference Newcomer of the Year and also earned second team All-Conference recognition. The guard has averaged 16.5 points per game to rank second on the team and fifth in the conference. She added a team-best 4.2 assists per game along with 4.5 rebounds per outing. Jones is the top 10 in the conference in field goal percentage (41.6 percent) and free throw percentage (79.8 percent).
Junior Lexi Edwards (Central Bucks South) had 15 points and six rebounds in Cabrini’s 75-43 victory over Drew to claim the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) championship last Sunday. In Saturday’s semifinal 77-60 win over No. 4 seeded Stevenson, Edwards had 14 points. In Cabrini’s 100-64 win over No. 9 seeded Penn State-Behrend in an ECAC quarterfinal game, Edwards had 16 points.
For the second straight year, University of Scranton senior Makenzie Mason (Central Bucks West) was named Landmark Conference Player of
the Year. The West graduate became the second player in program history to earn player of the year honors in consecutive years. She also was named to the first team for the third straight year after helping lead the Lady Royals to their fifth straight conference title. She was named Landmark Conference Tournament MVP after recording a double-double in both tournament games, including a 21-point, 12-rebound performance in Saturday’s 63-42 championship victory over Catholic. Mason led the team in scoring (14.1 ppg) and rebounding (6.9 rpg) and played her best basketball down the stretch, averaging 16.1 per game in the last 11 games to go along with a 54.4 field goal percentage.
Mason was named Co-Scranton Athlete of the Week for the week ending March 1 after recording a double-double in both games of the conference tournament as the Lady Royals captured their fifth straight Landmark Conference crown with a 63-42 victory over Catholic. Mason had 21 points and 12 rebounds in the win as the Lady Royals sealed the conference’s automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Tournament.
Mason contributed 12 points and nine rebounds in Scranton’s 65-56 setback to Endicott in the first round of the NCAA Tournament last Friday night.
Colgate freshman Alexa Brodie (Central Bucks South) was named to the Patriot League All-Rookie team. The CB South graduate started every game except Senior Day and stands 13th in the league in assists at 2.5 a game. The Raider point guard has handed out 73 assists against just 38 turnovers while scoring at a 6.1 clip. Colgate recently completed one of its best seasons in program history.
Bridget Birkhead (Central Bucks East) scored game-high 17 points, which included a 5-for-8 effort from beyond the arc, in Mount Saint Mary’s 80-47 win over Long Island on Monday. The CB East alum also had two rebounds, a steal and an assist. The Mount finished second to Robert Morris in the NEC. In the Mount’s 66-63 loss to Fairleigh Dickinson, Birkhead scored six points on a pair of 3-pointers, and she also had three rebounds, one assist, one steal and a block. In the Mount’s 57-52 loss to Robert Morris, Birkhead finished with 14 points – including four 3-pointers, three rebounds and a block.
Ursinus College senior Lydia Konstanzer (Pennridge) was named to the All-Centennial Conference first team for the second straight season.
The Pennridge grad, who earned rookie of the year honors in 2017 before collecting second team honors as a sophomore, capped a standout career with another dominating campaign. The Bears’ co-captain averaged 17.1 points and 10.1 rebounds per game, racking up 16 double-doubles. She led the CC in steals (60) and defensive rebounds while ranking second in rebounds per game and total field goals (175), third in blocks (41), fourth in points per game and field goal percentage (46.8) and fifth in free throws made (74). Konstanzer ripped off a stretch of 10 consecutive double-doubles towards the end of the year, elevating her overall total to 11th in Division III. A second team All-Mid-Atlantic Region selection in 2019, she finished her career second in program history in both points (1,624) and rebounds (956).
Swarthmore freshman Dana Bandurick (Council Rock North) capped an impressive campaign with her selection as the Centennial Conference Rookie of the Year. She also was named to the All-Centennial second team, making her one of just 11 players in CC history to secure first or second team honors as a freshman. She is only the second Garnet freshman to earn All-CC honors. In her first year of action, Bandurick started all 18 games she appeared in except for one. In 547 minutes of play, she recorded 292 points, collected 157 rebounds, 51 steals and blocked 23 shots. The opening game of the 2019-20 season saw Bandurick record 12 points and collect 10 rebounds for her first collegiate double-double. As the season went on, she recorded six more double-doubles including a 24-point and 11-rebound game against McDaniel College. In a non-conference game against Immaculata, Bandurick netted a career high 29 points and five blocks. In all but one game she appeared in, the freshman recorded at least one steal. Since it was first awarded after the 2012-13 season, Bandurick is the first Swarthmore player to receive the Centennial Conference Rookie of the Year honors. Bandurick was named the Centennial Conference Player of the Week on three separate occasions. She helped lead the way as Swarthmore finished the season with a 13-13 record and 10-10 in conference play. The Garnet made their first appearance in the Centennial Conference playoffs since the 2012-13 season.
University of the Sciences junior Irisa Ye (North Penn) was voted as one of five First Team academic All-Americans in Division II women’s
basketball by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). She was one of four non-seniors amongst the 15 total Academic All-Americans as well as the only representative from the east region. The Academic All-America Women’s Basketball Team recognizes the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom. Ye boasts a 3.93 grade point average (GPA) as a Biomedical Science major, having earned Dean’s List honors in each of her first five semesters with her first 4.0 GPA semester in Fall 2019.
Ye also became the fourth player in program history to win the CACC Player of the Year award. A year after earning her first career All-CACC nod, the junior became the fifth Devil to receive First Team All-CACC recognition multiple times. Ye ranked second in the CACC with 18.8 points per game despite ranking 25th with 30.2 minutes per game with her 24.9 points per 40 minutes leading the league. She also led the conference with a 51.7 field goal percentage and is fourth with an 81.3 free throw percentage while also ranking in the top 10 in assist/turnover ratio (1.3), assists per game (3.2) and steals per game (1.9). Ye broke two of the program’s Division II single-season records as she has 565 points and 217 field goals made on the year.
Ye led all players with 23 points and a career-high 10 rebounds to record her first career double-double in No. 14 USciences 69-51 loss to Jefferson in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference semifinals. The loss snapped a program record 20-game win streak. Mikaela Giuliani (North Penn) blocked three shots to move into sixth with 48 rejections on the year. Jordan Vitelli (Central Bucks South) and Jess Huber (North Penn) were also in double figures with 11 and 10 points, respectively. In USciences 94-59 quarterfinal victory over Nyack, Huber had six 3-pointers en route to leading all players with 22 points. The performance moved the junior into second in the program’s single-season history as she ended the evening with 78 trifectas on the year. She also had a career-high six assists. Ye had 22 points as she made 4-of-5 three-pointers and 8-of-10 from the field overall. In addition to moving into sixth on the program’s single-season scoring list with 542 points and third in the program’s single-season annals with 207 field goals made, the junior ended the evening eighth in program history with 1,318 career points and ninth all-time with 476 career field goals. Vitelli also was in double figures with 12 points after making four 3-pointers. Giuliani blocked a shot to move into a tie for seventh in the program’s single-season history with 45 rejections.
A year after earning her first career All-CACC honor as a member of the third team, Vitelli became the 10th Devil to receive All-CACC recognition
multiple times, earning second team honors. The senior is atop the CACC with a 41.9 3-point percentage, while tied for first with 2.9 three-pointers per game. Her 15.6 points per game ranks 10th in the league despite her 25.6 minutes per contest ranking 46th, and she is second in the conference at 24.5 points per 40 minutes, which has raised to a league-best 27.1 points per 40 minutes in conference play. Vitelli also leads the CACC with a 45.5 three-point percentage in league play. Not just a 3-point threat, she is fifth in the conference with a 50.3 field goal percentage.
Huber earned her first career All-CACC honor, earning second team recognition after a regular season that ended with her fourth in the CACC with 72 3-pointers and 10th with a 37.5 3-point percentage. She averaged 10.3 points per game, scoring 20-plus points six times and making multiple trifectas in over half of her appearances.
Haley Crossley (William Tennent) led four players in double figures with 17 points in Gwynedd Mercy’s 98-84 loss to RPI in the quarterfinal round of the 2020 ECAC Women’s Basketball Tournament last Friday.
Junior Payton Spadaccino (Council Rock South) had nine points, including a pair of three-pointers, in Bloomsburg’s 61-57 win over third-seeded Kutztown in the opening round of the PSAC Tournament.
Gabbi Wright (Cheltenham) scored six points in Kutztown’s 61-57 loss to Bloomsburg in a PSAC first round game.
Widener senior Devan Rimmer (Pennridge) was one of 18 NCAA Division III players nationwide selected to play in the Beyond Sports Women’s Collegiate All-Star Game that was scheduled to be held in Columbus, Ohio, on March 21. The all-stars were chosen by a committee of head women’s basketball coaches of NCAA Division III programs, who are also members of the WBCA. All players were nominated by WBCA member coaches. Rimmer was the only MAC Commonwealth player chosen to the squad and was one of three players representing the Middle Atlantic Conference.
Rimmer scored 27 points, connecting on four 3s and 10-of-21 shots from the field, in Widener’s 82-66 loss to No. 24/20 Christopher Newport in the opening round of the NCAA Division III Basketball Championships last Friday. She also dished out four assists and had five steals. Rimmer finished her career with 1,637 points, the third highest total in program history. Her 176 made 3-pointers are second.
MEN’S LACROSSE
Jakob Phaup (Souderton) won 9-of-15 face-offs in No. 1 Syracuse’s 15-9 victory over Johns Hopkins last Saturday.
Princeton University senior Michael Sowers (Princeton) made it three USILA Team of the Week honors in three weeks after his two-goal, seven-assist performance against Johns Hopkins. The USILA Team of the Week recognizes 10 players each week. Sowers continues to lead Division I in assists (29) and points (42). His 7.33 assists per game lead second place Grant Ament of Penn State by 2.65, and his 10.5 points per game are 3.5 more than second-place Sean Lulley of Penn. In addition, Sowers now is averaging 6.46 points per game for his career, which leaves him just short of the NCAA record of Tony Asterino, who averaged 6.47 at Siena from 1978-81.
Sowers had five points on three goals and two assists in Princeton’s 16-11 win over Rutgers last Saturday. He became the 16th player in Division I history to go over 300 career points as he now has 302 on 121 goals and 181 assists for his career.
Nicholas Fanelli (Pennridge) scored four goals in Eastern University’s 15-8 loss to St. Mary’s College of Maryland last Saturday.
Evan Scott (Upper Dublin) scored a goal in No. 6 Ursinus College’s 14-13 win over Stockton in a battle of unbeatens on Wednesday. In last Saturday’s 20-8 win over Illinois Wesleyan, Erik Ojert (Central Bucks West) scored his first collegiate goal.
Ryan Gartenmayer (Council Rock South) had a pair of goals in Gwynedd Mercy’s 16-7 loss to Delaware Valley University.
Brian Maienshein (Springfield Township) tied for a team-best five ground balls in Widener’s 12-10 loss to No. 12 Gettysburg last Saturday. In Widener’s 17-7 win over Emerson, Austin Novick (Council Rock South) scored his first career goal for the Blue and Gold.

Kate Ziegler (Pennridge) had three goals, two assists, five ground balls and two caused turnovers while teammate Hannah Cressman (Pennridge) had one goal and five assists in Elizabethtown’s 19-8 win over Immaculata on Tuesday. In last Saturday’s 23-10 win over Eastern, Ziegler had five points on two goals and three assists. In Elizabethtown’s 13-10 loss to Arcadia, Cressman had three assists and Ziegler added one goal, one assist and two ground balls.
Senior Courtney Dietzel (Central Bucks South) had one caused turnover in Drexel’s 11-9 win over UMBC on Wednesday. In last Saturday’s 18-13 win over Colgate, Dietzel contributed a goal and an assist.
Jenna Lund (Pennridge) scored three goals in IUP’s 21-2 win over West Virginia Wesleyan on Monday.

Saint Joseph’s sophomore defender Lindsey Smith (Springfield Township) has been named the Atlantic 10’s Player of the Week for the week ending March 8. Smith made her presence felt during the Hawks’ two games last week, collecting seven draws, causing six turnovers and scooping up five ground balls. She was a key part of the Hawk defense that limited Villanova to nine goals, causing four turnovers and collecting three ground balls. Smith helped keep the Hawks in their game against Johns Hopkins as she corralled a season-high six draws and had two ground balls while causing two turnovers. Smith leads the Hawks in ground balls and is tied for the team lead in caused turnovers.
Sam McGee (Abington) had three goals in St. Joseph’s 13-10 loss to Johns Hopkins last Saturday. Smith led all players with six draw controls. In the Hawks’ 16-9 win over Villanova, McGee had three goals and Smith caused a game-high four turnovers.
Alexa Machado (Pennridge) recorded 12 saves – half of them on free-position attempts – in Ursinus College’s 16-7 loss to Stockton. Hannah Reape (Upper Dublin) had a pair of goals, including a highlight reel goal that saw her pick up her own blocked shot and send a diving shot into the back of the net.
Jen Rodzewich (Pennridge) netted four goals in Temple’s 15-12 win over Columbia, extending the Owls’ win streak to three.
Senior Mikki Raymond (Abington) and junior Maddie Dachowski (Pennridge) both had a hat trick in La Salle’s 18-6 win over LIU last Saturday. Raymond also assisted on three goals to share the team lead with six points.
Devon Mela (Council Rock North) scored four goals in second-ranked West Chester’s 19-7 victory over Shippensburg on Wednesday. Mela now has 10 goals and 11 points in the first two games of 2020. In fact, 10 of her 11 shots on the year have found the back of the net. Additionally, she picked up six draw controls and has 13 draw controls on the young season. In West Chester’s 20-3 season-opening victory over visiting Georgian Court, Mela netted a career-high six goals.

Freshman Tori Caputo (Quakertown) threw her first complete game shutout in Elizabethtown’s 7-0 win over Dominican (Ill.) last Saturday in Clermont, Fla. The rookie hurler put the team down in order in the bottom of the seventh to finish off the shutout. Caputo scattered six hits across seven innings, working out of a jam in the third as the bases were loaded with two outs. She induced a pop up to second to get out of the inning. She struck out one batter in the game to move to 4-2 on the season. In Elizabethtown’s 9-5 win over Northland, Caputo earned the complete game win.
Junior third baseman Maddie Bieber (Central Bucks South) was 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs in Moravian College’s 5-3 win over Lebanon Valley in Clermont, Fla. Junior Meghan Bauer (Pennridge) picked up her first win of the season in the circle, allowing three runs on six hits and two walks to go with two strikeouts in 5.1 innings of action. In Moravian’s 9-5 win over Plymouth State (N.H.), Bieber was 2-for-3, and Alex Scheeler (Souderton) was 2-for-5. In the Greyhounds’ 15-3 win over Adrian (Mich.), Bieber became the 49th Moravian softball player to reach 100 hits with a single in the first inning, finishing the game 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Scheeler was 4-for-4 with three RBIs. In Moravian’s 8-0 win over Widener, Scheeler scattered four hits to go with one strikeout as she improved to 4-0 in the circle. In Moravian’s 10-8 win over Johnson & Wales, Bieber was 2-for-5 with two runs scored, and Scheeler earned the win in the circle, striking out a pair in 4.1 innings of action. In Moravian’s 5-1 loss to Eastern Nazarene (Mass.), Bieber was 2-for-3. In Moravian’s 11-1 win over Neumann, Bieber was 2-for-4 with three runs and two RBIs and Scheeler was 1-for-2 with two RBIs. Scheeler also earned the win, allowing a run on five hits and a walk to go with three strikeouts in five innings of action. Bauer tossed the final inning, striking out a batter. In the Greyhounds’ 6-3 win over Alvernia, Bauer tossed the final two-thirds of an inning for her first save of the season. Scheeler was 2-for-3 with two runs. In Moravian’s season-opening twinbill, Moravian notched an 8-3 nine-inning win over John Carroll (Ohio) University. Bieber was 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles and an RBI. Scheeler tossed all nine innings, allowing three runs, just one earned, on five hits and two walks to go with a pair of strikeouts for her first win of the year in the circle.
Jackie McMenamin (Upper Dublin), Shayna Cuiffitelli (Hatboro-Horsham) and Gabby Gaskin (Springfield Township) were all 2-for-3 in Penn State Abington’s 8-7 win over Cazenovia in Myrtle Beach on Friday. McMenamin and Cuiffitelli both also had two RBIs. Mary Kate Smith (Springfield Township) singled, scored two runs and stole one base. In game one of a doubleheader sweep Thursday, a 9-6 win over Centenary, Smith was 3-for-5 with two runs score while Gaskin was 2-for-5 with a triple, two RBIs and a run. In the Lions’ 2-1 win over Franciscan University, Smith was 2-for-3 with a stolen base and run scored. Stephanie Andreoli (Council Rock South) was 2-for-2 with a double and run scored. In Tuesday’s doubleheader sweep at the hands of Lycoming and Medaille College, Smith was 2-for-6 and leads the Nittany Lions with a .545 batting average.

In Eastern’s 11-5 loss to Webster University, Elena Iannuzzelli (Plymouth Whitemarsh) hit a two-run triple. The first-year shortstop scored on an error.
Emma Carney (Plymouth Whitemarsh) was 2-for-3 with a pair of RBIs in Gwynedd Mercy’s 6-2 win over Hilbert in game one of a doubleheader split in Myrtle Beach, S.C. Chelsea Briggs (Bensalem) singled home a run. In Gwynedd’s 6-5 walk-off defeat to Eastern Mennonite in the second contest, Carney was 3-for-4 with three RBIs. Her two-run double in the top of the seventh with two outs capped a three-run frame to send the game into extra innings.
Jennifer Hammons (Springfield Township) allowed eight hits and two walks while striking out six in a complete game effort in Ursinus College’s 3-2 loss to Western New England in Clermont, Fla., on Saturday. In Thursday’s 2-1 win over DeSales, Hammons earned the complete game win, allowing one run and striking out three.
Senior Meghan Klee (Quakertown) was 1-for-2 with a home run, two RBIs and a run scored in Shippensburg’s 26-0 abbreviated victory over Bluefield last Sunday. In last Saturday’s 12-1 win over Chowan in five innings, Klee hit a two-run double.
Natalie Rios (Neshaminy) and Lex Ortman (Central Bucks South) each had one of La Salle’s four hits in the Explorers 8-0 loss to Stony Brook last Sunday to conclude the DiMarini Tiger Class hosted by Towson. In Friday’s 9-3 loss to Towson, Ortman singled and scored a run while Rio registered a double and walked three times.
Mikayla Fedele (Hatboro-Horsham) scattered six hits and allowed one unearned run in picking up her second straight complete game in Widener’s 6-3 win over Fontbonne in game one of a twinbill sweep in Clermont, Fla. Jamie Gosselin (Abington) had a pair of hits in the doubleheader. In Widener’s twinbill sweep over Berea (10-2) and St. Mary’s, Minn. (3-2), Gosselin finished the day with three hits, including a double and two RBIs. Fedele earned the complete game win over St. Mary’s, allowing three hits and no earned runs through seven innings.
Amber Brugger (Neshaminy) hit a two-run double and scored a run in Kutztown’s 5-3 win over Edinboro in game one of a doubleheader sweep on Saturday in Winter Haven, Fla. Brittany Hubler (Hatboro-Horsham) singled and scored. In KU’s 11-3 win over IUP in game one of a twinbill sweep Thursday, Hubler hit a two-run home run, her third round tripper of the season. In Kutztown’s 2-0 win over Wayne State in the nightcap, Brugger got the start and went 6.1 innings, allowing four hits and no runs. In Kutztown’s 1-0 win over Nova Southeastern Brugger threw a complete game shutout, going the full seven innings. She allowed five hits for her first shutout of the season. In the Golden Bears’ 4-3 win over Winston-Salem State, Brugger threw five innings, allowing two runs while striking out four to earn the win.

Penn State junior Bryce Hoch (North Penn) finished 11th with a score of 522.65 overall in the diving at the NCAA Zone A Regional Championships. His prelim score of 239.40 qualified him for a finals spot where he dove for a career best of 283.25. In the 1-meter diving event, Hoch made it to the finals with a prelim score of 282.70. He concluded the day with a 17th place finish and a final score of 554.50. In the 1-meter, Hoch scored a 279.25 to land him 25th overall.
La Salle freshman Sam Henninger (Abington) competed in the NCAA Zone A Diving Championships on Tuesday. He placed 35th out of 41 divers in the 1-meter prelim with a score of 248.60. Henninger finished 36th out of 43 with a tally of 247.20 in the 3-meter.

La Salle sophomore Phoebe Shaya (Council Rock South) competed in the NCAA Zone A diving Championships last Sunday. The sophomore placed 44th out 62 in the 1-meter event with a score of 220.45.

Villanova senior Casey Comber (Hatboro-Horsham) finished fourth in the 5000 meters at the BIG EAST Track & Field Championships.
Ursinus junior Griffin McMann (Pennridge) earned All-Mideast Region recognition in the shot put from the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association. The Pennridge grad ranks third on the shot put charts, posting a career-best 50-8.25 at the Shenandoah final qualifying meet. McMann was named to the All-Centennial Conference first team in both the shot put and weight throw. The Ursinus junior took the top prize in the weight throw at 46-1.50, giving the Bears weight throw gold medals in back-to-back seasons. He also led eight place-winners in the shot put with a career-best 49-7.75.
Shippensburg redshirt sophomore Shamar Jenkins (Souderton) successfully defended his PSAC title in the triple jump with a winning mark of 48 feet, nine inches (14.86 meters) that came on his first attempt at the 2020 PSAC Indoor Conference Championships. The Raiders won their 10 consecutive team title.
Sophomore Elijah Rizzo (Bensalem) qualified to represent Gwynedd Mercy at the 2020 NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships that were cancelled. The Bensalem grad was one of 20 competitors selected in the high jump. It would have been the first appearance for the sophomore and the 11th male in program history to qualify for nationals.
Matt Ludlow (Pennridge) was part of Widener’s third place 4×200 relay that posted a time of 1:30.28 at the All-Atlantic Region Track and Field Championships last Saturday. On the first day of the championships Friday, Ludlow ran a 7.19 in the 60 meters.

Rachel Coleman (Wissahickon) was named to the All-Centennial first team as part of the Bears’ winning 4×200 meter relay team. The Wissahickon grad also earned second team honors as part of the runner-up 4×400 relay. Michela Coleman (Wissahickon) was also part of the 4×4 relay.
Shippensburg senior Jordan Higgins (Hatboro-Horsham) capped off her indoor career with her second PR in as many days in the 60-meter hurdles, finishing fifth with a time of 9.07 seconds at the 2020 PSAC Indoor Track and Field Championships. Freshman Lieke Black (Wissahickon) was part of the third place 4x400m relay that crossed the finish line in 1:00.14.
