MEN’S CROSS COUNTRY
Senior Nicholas Volpe (William Tennent) finished second with a time of 23:33 in the Bryn Athyn College Invitational on Saturday. The team finished first in a field of four teams.
Ursinus junior David Slade (Abington) posted a season best time of 29:46 at the Paul Short Run on Saturday.
Shippensburg freshman Alex Balla (Quakertown) was the Red Raiders’ seventh runner finishing faster than 26 minutes at the Paul Short Collegiate Invitational, crossing the finish line in 25:53 to finish 42nd in the open division. That time was 44 seconds faster than his 8K debut two weeks ago at Dickinson.
La Salle freshman Chris Berry (Central Bucks West) posted a time of 25:17 to finish 102nd out of 358 runners at the Paul Short Invitational on Saturday.
Penn State’s Connor Quinn (Hatboro-Horsham) posted a time of 24:34.5 to finish 104th at the Notre Dame Invitational on Friday. The men’s team finished 11th overall.
In his first major collegiate competition, Penn freshman Ross Wilson (Council Rock North) was the fifth member of the Penn team to finish and crossed the line at 24:46.6 at the Notre Dame Invitational on Friday evening. The men’s team finished 15th overall.
WOMEN’S CROSS COUNTRY
Penn State junior Tori Gerlach (Pennridge) posted a time of 16:40.9 to place 17th at the Notre Dame Invitational on Friday. The No. 30 Nittany Lions placed fifth overall.
Shippensburg freshman Sarah Latch (Central Bucks East) crossed the finish line before the 23-minute mark at the Paul Short Collegiate Invitational Saturday, posting a time of 22:49, which was more than 100 seconds faster than her time at Dickinson two week ago.
Bloomsburg senior Katie Dodds (Upper Dublin) finished 16th overall at the Greater Louisville Cross Country Classic on Saturday, posting a time of 18:29.79. Finishing fourth for the Huskies and 75th overall was Keelan McDonald (Central Bucks West) with a time of 19:08.29. At the Paul Short Invitational, Jessica Quesenberry (Wissahickon) posted a time of 25:37.
Elizabethtown’s Liz Wedekind (Pennsbury) finished 59th with a time of 23:15.8 at the Geneseo Invitational. The team finished fifth out of 19 teams in the standings with 146 points.
Messiah College’s Natalie Ross (Souderton) and Leah Novak (Souderton) recorded personal bests at the Genesco Invitational on Saturday with times of 24:18.9 and 24:45.9, respectively. The women’s team placed 13th out of the 19 teams racing.
Kutztown’s Carolyn Fergus (North Penn) posted a time of 24:08 at the Paul Short Invitational on Saturday. Teammate Elizabeth McLaughlin (Upper Dublin) finished in a time of 24:17.
FIELD HOCKEY
Lauren Becker (Wissahickon) netted her first game winner of the season in No. 5 Stanford’s 3-2 overtime win over Pacific on Friday. The Wissahickon grad scored the winning goal in the 75th minute. In last Sunday’s 3-0 win at Yale, Becker scored her fifth goal of the season.
Freshman Megan Hamilton (Central Bucks South) recorded the third multiple-goal game of her career with two second-half goals in Providence’s 5-1 win over Quinnipiac. The Friars improved to 8-4 overall on the season.
Hannah Heritage (Plymouth Whitemarsh) contributed an assist in Elizabethtown’s 5-0 win over Goucher on Saturday.
Becky Ely (Council Rock North) scored twice in Messiah College’s 3-2 win over Mary Washington on Tuesday.
Emily Vasey (Central Bucks East) took a shot that hit off the keeper and was deposited in the cage by teammate Maddy Tettelbach in La Salle’s 2-1 upset of Richmond on Sunday. In La Salle’s 2-1 win over VCU on Friday, Vasey took a shot that was saved, but teammate Kendall Kreider scored the game winner on the rebound.
Junior Sarah Yerk (Pennridge) contributed an assist in St. Joe’s 6-1 win over Appalachian State last Sunday.
Emily Hawkins (Cheltenham) was credited with seven saves and notched her first collegiate shutout in Keystone College’s 8-0 win over Cedar Crest on Saturday. In Thursday’s 2-0 loss to Oswego State, Hawkins had 15 saves in goal. In Tuesday’s 2-0 loss to Ramapo, Hawkins recorded seven saves.
Lehigh sophomore Gabby Tofig (Council Rock North) was named the Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week for the week ending Sept. 28. Tofig continued her hot streak offensively and has scored seven goals on the season, which leads the league. She began the week by scoring Lehigh’s second goal against Holy Cross off a rebound, which proved to be the difference in a 3-1 victory. She scored a pair of goals in Lehigh’s 4-2 win over Sacred Heart. It marked her second career multi-goal game in five games.
Junior Katie O’Neill (Council Rock North) scored a goal in Gwynedd Mercy’s 5-1 win over Richard Stockton on Saturday. In Wednesday’s 2-1 win over William Patterson, freshman Abigail Gabriel (Souderton) scored a late goal for the game winner.
Maddie Wagenfeld (Hatboro-Horsham) recorded four saves in one half of action in Lock Haven’s 3-0 loss to Massachusetts on Friday.
Courtney Konowal (Plymouth Whitemarsh) was credited with an assist in Kutztown’s 3-2 come-from-behind win over Mercyhurst on Saturday.
Carlie Baldus (Hatboro-Horsham) scored a goal and teammate Taylor Prichett (William Tennent) added an assist in Delaware Valley’s 3-2 win over Alvernia on Wednesday.
Kelly Schlupp (Council Rock South) and senior Amanda Krause (Council Rock North) combined on the shutout with Krause registering the lone save in The College of New Jersey’s 7-0 win over Albright on Thursday. In Tuesday’s 5-0 win over Richard Stockton College, Schlupp had two saves for her first shutout of the season.
Alayna Brown (Souderton) contributed a goal in West Chester’s 6-1 win over East Stroudsburg on Friday.
Junior Meghan McCullough (Plymouth Whitemarsh) connected on a penalty stroke early in the first half of Quinnipiac’s 5-1 loss to Providence on Sunday.
FOOTBALL
Senior Craig Needhammer (North Penn) reached one milestone and broke the school record for the all-time points scored in No. 25 Lycoming’s 31-10 win over Stevenson on Saturday. The North Penn grad rushed 19 times for 113 yards and two scores as he became the third running back in program history to reach 3,000 career rushing yards. His two scores helped him surpass the mark of 222 career points set by kicker John Phillips (1989-92) as his school record 38 touchdowns gave him 228 career points. Senior John Sibel (Pennsbury) led the team with five receptions for 32 yards.
Sheldon Mayer (Norristown) had seven receptions for 113 yards, including touchdown receptions of 25 and 51 yards, in Shippensburg’s 37-33 loss to East Stroudsburg on Saturday. Senior linebacker James Brennan (Upper Merion) had eight tackles.
Shane Quinn (Neshaminy) had three catches for 41 yards and DJ McFadden (Abington) had three receptions for 48 yards in No. 12 Bloomsburg’s 41-7 win over Cheyney on Saturday.
Freshman kicker Alec Rosenfeld (Bensalem) drilled both of his field goal attempts (28 and 35 yards) in Kutztown’s 54-7 win over Millersville on Saturday. He is a perfect 6-for-6 on the year. Jalen Nieves (Bensalem) returned from an injury and hauled in an interception.
Shannon Mayer (Norristown) had five catches for 68 yards and two touchdowns in No. 9 West Chester’s 41-16 win over Lock Haven on Saturday. Rich Bruno (Council Rock South) kicked a 43-yard field goal.
Defensive end Brandon Gattelli (Bensalem) contributed a sack in East Stroudsburg’s 37-33 win at Shippensburg on Saturday.
Junior kicker Eric Boyer (Upper Dublin) kicked a 33-yard field goal in Ursinus College’s 24-0 win over Moravian on Saturday.
Anthony Alimenti (Council Rock South) came up with an interception and returned it 17 yards in Duquesne’s 39-13 win over West Liberty on Saturday.
MEN’S GOLF
La Salle senior Greg Goodreds (Hatboro-Horsham) tied for 50th with a three-round score of 225 (+12) at the Patriot Intercollegiate hosted by George Mason.
West Chester’s Eric Slawter (Upper Merion) shot a 154 in the two-day Mercyhurst Fall Invitational. West Chester finished in a tie for sixth overall.
Millersville junior Rodney Anders (Souderton) shot a 74 in the second round of the Mercyhurst Invitational. It was his career-low round, and his 36-hole total of 7-over par was also a career best. Millersville finished second in the team standings.
MEN’S SOCCER
Sophomore Tyler Afflerbach (Souderton) was named the Colonial Marble and Granite Athlete of the Week by Drexel Athletics for the week of Sept. 24-30. The Souderton grad recorded his fourth shutout of the season and the 10th of his career in a 3-0 victory over Fairleigh Dickinson. The sophomore keeper made four stops to preserve the shutout. He also recorded three saves in a tough 1-0 loss to Princeton.
Afflerbach notched his fifth shutout of the season in Drexel’s 2-0 win over Seton Hall on Tuesday. It was the 11th shutout of his career. Drexel now has put together clean sheets in each of its last two games, both victories. Afflerbach has not allowed a goal other than a penalty kick in 270 minutes dating back to overtime of the Dragons’ loss against CSU Bakersfield.
La Salle midfielder Joe Farrell (Wissahickon) was named Player of the Week by the Philadelphia Soccer Six for the week ending Sept. 28. The Wissahickon grad had a hand in both of La Salle’s goals during the week. The junior scored the game winner in the 48th minute of the Explorers’ win over Bucknell. In overtime of La Salle’s scoreless duel at Manhattan, Farrell gathered a corner kick and found teammate Kennedy Colman for the game winner in the 97th minute. Farrell now is one of just three players in the Soccer Six to average at least one point per game, and his three goals rank second.
Sophomore Matt Robinson (North Penn) scored on a penalty kick in the 94th minute to lift La Salle to a 1-0 win over LIU on Saturday afternoon. The North Penn grad also scored the game winner in the victory over Stetson on Sept. 21.
Sophomore Dylan Smith (Pennsbury) scored a goal in Shippensburg’s 3-2 loss to Gannon on Saturday.
Dan Saint-Pol (Pennridge) made four saves in Penn State Abington’s 2-0 loss to Penn State Harrisburg on Wednesday. In Tuesday’s 1-1 double overtime tie with Lancaster Bible, Saint-Pol came up big in goal.
Ryan Molyneaux (Souderton)’s corner kick set up the game winner in Ursinus College’s 1-0 win over Swarthmore on Friday. In Tuesday’s 2-1 loss to No. 8 Franklin & Marshall, Molyneaux contributed an assist.
Sophomore Jake Nesteruk (Central Bucks East) made seven stops in goal in The College of New Jersey’s 2-1 overtime loss to Montclair State on Saturday night. In Wednesday’s 2-0 win over the College of Staten Island, Nesteruk needed just one save for his third shutout.
Senior Christian Benner (Souderton) applied pressure with two shots on goal in West Chester’s 2-0 loss to East Stroudsburg on Tuesday.
Stephen Pieri (Central Bucks South) lobbed a long cross to set up a goal in Bloomsburg’s 5-0 win over Nyack on Wednesday.
WOMEN’S SOCCER
Temple’s Erin Lafferty (Upper Dublin) was named to the American Athletic Conference Honor Roll after her performance for the week ending Sept. 28. Lafferty anchored the Owls’ defense as well as contributed to the offensive attack. Temple opened conference play with a 2-1 win at Cincinnati. At the 72:48 mark, Lafferty took a free kick from 25 yards out and bent it in the upper right post.

Kaceyanne Cerankowski (Neshaminy) recorded the hat trick in Elizabethtown’s 6-2 win over Goucher on Saturday.

unior Theo Horozoglou (Council Rock South) scored a late goal for the game winner to propel Gwynedd Mercy to a 2-1 win at Keystone on Tuesday. It was her third game-winning goal in the last four games. Horozoglou scored both of her team’s goals.
Maureen Leis (Springfield) took a pair of shots that were turned away with diving saves in Bloomsburg’s 3-2 loss to Kutztown on Tuesday.
Jeannie Jaskinski (Pennridge) scored her team’s lone goal in Ursinus College’s 1-1 tie with McDaniel on Saturday.
Sophomore Haley Mangiaruga (North Penn) scored three seconds before halftime in No. 6 West Chester’s 2-1 double overtime loss to No. 16 East Stroudsburg on Tuesday.
Grace Miorelli (Souderton) matched a school record with four goals in Cedarville’s 9-0 win over Ohio Valley on Thursday. Miorelli’s performance equaled the single-game mark first set in 1997 and matched in 2003 and 2008. She has six goals on the season.
Senior Kimber Kisselback (Neshaminy) was credited with an assist in Holy Family’s 2-1 loss to Felician on Saturday.
MEN’S TENNIS
Penn State Abington freshman Mohammed Ammouni (Bensalem) was named as the NAC
West Men’s Tennis Player of the Week for the week ending Sept. 28. The freshman opened the week with a pair of wins during Abington’s 9-0 sweep over Eastern, earning an 8-2 win in first doubles and picking up a straight-set victory in first singles, 6-1, 6-0. He then went on to make program history as he became the first Nittany Lion to earn a first round win at the USTA-ITA Southeast Regional Championships Saturday. Ammouni, who was not seeded for the tournament, picked up a hard-fought 6-2, 4-6, 6-1 win to advance to the Round of 32 in singles play in the Championship Singles draw before having to withdraw from competition due to injury during his first set in the second round.
WOMEN’S TENNIS
Gwynedd Mercy sophomore Kristen Kriebel (Pennridge) was chosen to the CSAC Women’s Tennis Honor Roll for the week ending Sept. 28. Kriebel won the Goucher College Invitational #3 Singles bracket over the weekend. She defeated Olivia Edwards of Lebanon Valley, 6-4, 6-1, in the opening round before taking down Emily Ruff of Goucher, 7-5, 6-2, in the semifinal. She battled Brynn Buechler of Richard Stockton in the final and came out on top with a 4-6, 7-6 (7-4), 10-8 victory. She is 8-2 in singles matches for the Griffins.
Jenna Caffarello (North Penn) earned a 6-0, 6-1 win at sixth singles in Gwynedd Mercy’s 7-2 win over Neumann on Saturday. Taylor Michener (Central Bucks South) was part of the second doubles team that earned an 8-0 win. Kristen Kriebel (Pennridge) was part of the third doubles team that notched an 8-1 win. In Wednesday’s 8-1 loss to La Salle, Caffarello earned a win at sixth singles.
Claire Uhle (Wissahickon) earned a win at No. 1 singles in West Chester’s 9-0 win over Saint Thomas Aquinas. She also was part of the first doubles team that earned an 8-0 win. In Tuesday’s 8-1 win over Georgian Court, Uhle notched a 6-1, 6-1 win at first singles and also was part of an 8-0 first doubles team win.
WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL
Holy Family senior setter Devyn Ingram (Upper Merion) was named the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Women’s Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week for the week ending Sept. 28. Holy Family went 2-0 as the Tigers improved to 5-9 overall and 3-1 in the CACC. Ingram filled the stat sheet last week as she totaled 14 kills, 13 assists, four assists, four service aces, 21 digs and five block assists. In the team’s 3-1 win over Georgian Court, Ingram recorded a double-double with 11 kills and 11 digs. She also had two aces. In addition, Ingram totaled five block assists, matching a career high from the 2012 season. In the win over Concordia, Ingram finished with 10 digs to go along with three kills and a pair of service aces. This season, Ingram is averaging 2.96 digs, 1.11 kills and 4.63 assists per set. She also had 16 service aces and 18 totals blocks.
Freshman Melanie Ingram (Upper Merion) had nine kills and 12 digs in Holy Family’s 3-1 win over Nyack College on Saturday. Devyn Ingram recorded 37 set assists to go along with 10 digs and four block assists. In Friday’s 3-0 loss to Wilmington, Melanie Ingram had nine kills and five digs. Devyn Ingram tallied 26 set assists to go along with 10 digs. In Tuesday’s 3-1 win over Goldey-Beacom, Melanie Ingram had 13 kills and nine digs while Devyn Ingram set a new career high with 49 set assists to go along with three kills, three service aces and six digs.
Junior Cassidy Koenig (Upper Merion) posted her third double-double of the season in Cabrini’s 3-1 win over Immaculata on Wednesday, contributing 29 assists and 13 digs.
Julie Harvey (Hatboro-Horsham) had 13 kills in Franklin & Marshall’s 3-1 loss to Haverford on Wednesday.
Setter Sam Nelson (Central Bucks West) had 31 assists in Penn State Abington’s 3-1 win over Rutgers University-Camden on Wednesday.
Freshman outside hitter Taylor McCartney (Pennsbury) had eight kills in Ursinus College’s 3-1 loss to McDaniel on Saturday. In Wednesday’s 3-2 win over Bryn Mawr, McCartney led the way with 17 kills.
Taylor Gasperi (Harry S Truman) had seven digs in Rosemont College’s 3-0 loss to Cairn University on Saturday.
Senior tri-captain Devon Maugle (Plymouth Whitemarsh) had 10 kills and eight digs in UConn’s 3-1 loss to USF on Friday night.
Deanna Bianchini (Wissahickon) recorded double digit digs in Chestnut Hill’s 3-0 win over the University of the Sciences.
Audrea Stringer (Pennsbury) recorded a season high three solo blocks to go along with one block assist and also had 10 kills in Kutztown’s 3-1 loss to Millersville on Saturday. Stringer hit a solid .364 percent. Cara Reilly (Pennsbury) had five kills. In Friday’s 3-1 win over Shippensburg, Stringer had 10 kills and two solo blocks. In Tuesday’s 3-1 win at East Stroudsburg, Stringer had six kills and two blocks while Reilly added five kills.
