MEN’S BASKETBALL
Gwynedd Mercy sophomore Arron Goodman (Council Rock North) was named to the Colonial States Athletic Conference weekly men’s basketball honor roll for the week ending Nov. 23. Goodman was named to the all-tournament team of the Hoopsville National Invitational Classic, capping a 2-1 week. In the team’s game against Catholic, he netted 13 points with six boards and three assists. In the finale against Mary Hardin-Baylor, he totaled 19 points on 8-of-16 shooting, six rebounds, six assists, three blocks and three steals. In a win over Wesley, he had 19 points on 5-of-10 shooting and 9-of-10 at the line with 11 rebounds for his first double-double. So far this season, Goodman leads the team in scoring (16.0 ppg) and is second in rebounding (6.0 rpg).
Goodman scored 24 points on 6-of-11 shooting and pulled down seven rebounds in Gwynedd Mercey’s 96-83
overtime loss to Howard on Friday in an exhibition matchup. Julian Hyden (Bensalem) had seven rebounds. In Tuesday’s 112-74 win over Keystone, Hyden had 17 points and pulled down a game-high nine rebounds while Goodman had 16 points and seven boards.
Wes Brooks (North Penn) contributed six points and eight rebounds in McDaniel’s 56-44 win over Washington College on Tuesday.
Senior Travis Bryan (Hatboro-Horsham) had seven rebounds and blocked three shots in the middle in DeSales University’s 79-57 win over Moravian on Tuesday.
Junior forward Dave Knox (Central Bucks South) had 10 points, 10 rebounds and two blocks in 22 minutes in Washington College’s 56-44 loss to McDaniel on Tuesday.
Junior guard Aaron Morgan (Council Rock North) had a team-high 13 points in UMBC’s 68-54 loss to Howard University on Tuesday.
Ryan Arcidiacono (Neshaminy) contributed nine points, four rebounds, three assists and two steals in No. 12 Villanova’s 60-55 win over No. 19 Michigan State in the championship game of the Progressive Legends Classic on Wednesday. In Tuesday’ 77-53 win over No. 14 VCU, Arcidiacono had nine assists and zero turnovers.
Luke Moyer (Souderton) connected on a three-pointer in Campbell’s 91-64 loss to No. 16 Ohio State on Wednesday night in front of a capacity crowd of 18,809 at Value City Arena in Columbus.
Senior Sam Pygatt (Plymouth Whitemarsh) had eight points on 4-of-6 shooting with six rebounds in Shippensburg’s 101-51 win over Penn State-Lehigh Valley on Tuesday.
Josh Johnson (Norristown) had his second double-double of the year with 13 points and 11 rebounds in Kutztown’s 75-72 double overtime victory over Philadelphia University on Tuesday at Pottsville Area High School’s Martz Hall.
WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
Curtrena Goff (Upper Dublin) scored a career-high 20 points in Rosemont College’s 75-70 loss to the College of Staten Island in the consolation game of the Pepsi Tip-Off Tournament hosted by Susquehanna University last Sunday. Goff’s 20 points came from 7-for-11 shooting from the field, including 4-for-8 from outside the arc.
Alvernia sophomore Tyra Roberts (Bensalem) was named Mimmo’s Athlete of the week for the second week in a row. Roberts had 10 points and four rebounds as Alvernia overcame a 14-point deficit to open the conference schedule with a win over Lycoming.
Roberts contributed a team-high 13 points and 10 boards in Alvernia’s 73-59 loss to Delaware Valley on Tuesday.
Freshman Allison Gallagher (Souderton) scored 20 points in Widener’s 79-67 loss at Wesley on Tuesday.
Senior guard Shayla Felder (Cheltenham) scored 10 points and went 6-of-7 from the foul line in the first half in Chestnut Hill’s 78-53 loss to Kutztown on Monday.
Junior Ciara Andrews (Cheltenham) scored 11 points in St. Joe’s 64-42 win over St. Francis Brooklyn on Saturday.
Junior Stephanie Knauer (North Penn) scored 15 points on 6-of-6 shooting and had five rebounds in Shippensburg’s 106-68 win over Dominican in the title game of the 2014 Pocono Classic hosted by East Stroudsburg on Sunday. She scored 12 of those points before making a cameo appearance in the second half. In two games this weekend, Knauer, who was named to the all-tournament team, had 29 points on 11-of-16
shooting (68.8 percent). Freshman Vicky Tumasz (North Penn) is thriving as the first player off the bench for the Raiders. She led Shippensburg in Sunday’s game with 20 points in 29 minutes off the bench, shooting 6-of-9 from three-point range and handing out three assists. Tumasz was one of three All-Pocono Classic Team selections for SU, finishing the weekend with 33 points in two games while shooting 56 percent from the field and making 9-of-14 from three-point range, In Saturday’s 87-47 win over Concordia, Knauer had 14 points while Tumasz added 13 points, which included a 3-of-5 performance from beyond the arc. In Tuesday’s 88-52 win over Bowie State, Tumaszhad 16 points in just 18 minutes, shooting 5-of-8 from the floor including 3-of-5 from three-point range. She scored 12 of her 16 points in the first half. Knauer contributed 13 points and six rebounds.
Alex Wheatley (Council Rock South) connected on 6-of-9 field goals in Princeton’s 73-43 win over North Carolina-Charlotte at the 2014 Cancun Challenge on Saturday. She finished with 12 points and three boards in a win that was the Tigers’ seventh straight. In Friday’s 80-55 win over the University of Montana, Wheatley had eight points and five rebounds. Wheatley had 13 points on 6-of-11 shooting in Princeton’s 72-55 win over Wake Forest on Thursday. In last Sunday’s 63-56 win over American, Wheatley had seven points and five rebounds.
Amie Eppolito (Pennsbury) had 12 points, five rebounds and two assists in Cairn University’s 71-46 loss to Trinity Baptist last Saturday.
Emily O’Donnell (William Tennent) had 13 points and six rebounds in Albright’s 81-69 non-conference victory over Ursinus on Saturday. In Tuesday’s 56-51 loss to Cabrini, O’Donnell came off the bench to score six points and grab four rebounds in the opening half. She finished with 13 points, five rebounds and a steal.
Senior Devin Gold (Council Rock North) had three steals in Caldwell’s 82-64 loss to Franklin Pierce on Saturday.
Senior Natasha Matthews (Norristown) scored 26 points and pulled down 10 rebounds in Gwynedd Mercy’s 81-74 win over Neumann on Monday.
Junior guard Helena Gemmel (Council Rock North) had a career-high 15 points in East Stroudsburg’s 86-44 win over Concordia on the second day of the 50th Annual Pocono Classic on Sunday at Koehler Fieldhouse. Sophomore guard Courtney Brown (Council Rock South) scored seven points. In Saturday’s 73-68 loss to Dominican in an opening round game, Gemmel had six points and three steals.
MEN’S CROSS COUNTRY
Gettysburg senior Ryan Matzke (Neshaminy) was named to the Centennial Conference All-Sportsmanship Team. Each member institution was permitted to nominate one student-athlete from each fall program who exemplifies the best in sportsmanship.
FOOTBALL
Ursinus junior punter Eric Boyer (Upper Dublin) was named the 2014 All-Centennial first team punter. The Upper Dublin grad led the Centennial with a 39.3 per punt average and had 13 of his punts land inside the 20-yard line. While being selected a first team punter, as a kicker, he was 39-for-43 on PAT kicks and scored 57 points. He ranked fifth in the conference in points.
Brandon Shippen (Norristown) had a 17-yard reception in Temple’s 14-6 loss to Cincinnati on Saturday.
Mike Doty (Central Bucks South) caught five passes for 79 yards and one touchdown in No. 15 West Chester’s 51-36 loss to No. 10 Concord in the NCAA playoffs on Saturday. Backup quarterback Andrew Derr (Upper Dublin) completed 5-of-11 passes for 87 yards and one touchdown.
DJ McFadden (Abington) hauled in a pair of passes for 61 yards and a touchdown in Bloomsburg’s 35-14 NCAA playoff win over Virginia State on Saturday. The win moves the second-seeded Huskies into next weekend’s Super Region One championship game at top-seeded Concord (West Virginia). Concord defeated West Chester in its second round game.
MEN’S SOCCER
West Chester senior defender Christian Benner (Souderton) was selected to the Daktronics, Inc., All-Atlantic Region second team. He also was named first team All-PSAC. Benner started all 16 games and played stellar defense throughout the year. He scored a goal in the Shippensburg game that made all the difference in a 2-1 win. Benner’s versatility proved crucial to the Golden Rams in the early part of the season when the team was battling injuries. Benner played a number of different roles in the back for West Chester. That versatility did not go unnoticed by the sports information directors from around the Atlantic Region, which makes up the PSAC and the Mountain East Conference. Benner also appeared in 69 career games. He scored five goals and assisted on two others to post 12 points in his career. He was part of a nucleus that reached the PSAC semifinals in each of the past three seasons and helped the Golden Rams win a playoff match in back-to-back seasons for the first time in school history.
Bloomsburg junior defender Matt Zima (Council Rock North) was named to the Daktronics All-Atlantic Region first team. He is the first Huskies’ player to be selected to the Daktronics All-Region first team. Zima started all of the Huskies 20 matches during the year and played a key role on a tremendous back line that allowed just 16 goals during the regular season, the fewest goals surrendered by any PSAC team. Zima also netted four goals with two assists for a total of 10 points. For his career, he has played in 51 matches with 42 starts with five goals and three assists. As one of 13 first team selections from the Atlantic Region, Zima advances to the national voting stage for All-America honors.
WOMEN’S SOCCER
Cedarvills sophomore Grace Miorelli (Souderton) has been chosen to the Daktronics NCAA Division II Women’s Soccer Midwest Region First Team for the second year in a row. The all-region teams are nominated and selected by the region’s sports information directors. Miorelli, a 5-2 midfielder, is one of four forwards named to the 13-player first team and is the only player from the Great Midwest Athletic Conference to earn the honor. Miorelli played in all 19 matches and started 17 for the 10-8-1 Lady Jackets. She ranked third in the G-MAC in scoring with 10 goals and 10 assists for 30 points. Miorelli tallied 10 goals and four assists for 24 points as a freshman. She has played in all 41 matches in her two-year career with 20 goals and 14 assists. Cedarville qualified for the G-MAC Tournament and were also the NCCAA Midwest Region runner-up.
West Chester senior midfielder Carly Yost (North Penn) was named to the Daktronics, Inc., All-Atlantic Region first team. She also was the recipient of first team honors in the PSAC as well. Yost played and started all 22 games for the Golden Rams, posting a team-best 20 points. She was second on the team in goals (seven) and led the team in assists (six), along with recording three game winners. During her four-year career, the Rams’ co-captain appeared in 64 games and notched 21 goals and 13 assists for 55 career points. She registered seven game-winning goals, including three in each of the past two campaigns. She was a force both up top at striker for three seasons and in the midfield her senior year. The Golden Rams reached the national quarterfinals after claiming the school’s sixth Atlantic Region crown. A 2-0 loss to No. 6 College of Saint Rose was all that stood between West Chester and a trip to the national semifinals.

Buffalo freshman Eric Jensen (Upper Dublin) won his second individual event of the weekend at the Magnus Cup Invitational hosted by Cleveland State last Sunday, capturing first in the 200 butterfly with a time of 1:50.08.
WOMEN’S SWIMMING & DIVING
Towson junior Natalee Szopo (Upper Moreland) captured first place in the three-meter diving event at the Bucknell Invitational last Sunday, scoring 293.65.
Eve Kosten (North Penn) was part of Buffalo’s winning 400 freestyle relay that posted a time of 3:24.89 at the Magnus Cup Invitational hosted by Cleveland State last Sunday. The women’s team finished third of 10 teams.
Molly Templin (Abington) finished fourth in the 50 free with a time of 33.96 in Eliabethtown’s 109-96 win at Lebanon Valley on Tuesday night.
Franklin & Marshall’s Taylor Mateja (Upper Merion) finished second in the consolation final and 10th overall in the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:12.33 at the F&M Invitational. F&M finished fourth as a team.
Abby Miller (Neshaminy) was part of Lock Haven’s 200 free relay that posted a time of 1:42.23 and finished 13th at the Pitt Invite last Sunday.
Brown senior captain Kate Dillione (Council Rock North) is the school record holder in the 200 freestyle. Recently, she set five pool records at UMass Amhert’s Joseph Rogers Pool in the 50, 100 and 200 freestyle, 100 butterfly and 400 freestyle relay. WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL
Senior tri-captain Devon Maugle (Plymouth Whitemarsh) became just the seventh ever UConn player to record 1,000 career kills and 1,000 career digs. The PW grad surpassed that milestone in the Huskies’ 3-2 win over Houston on Wednesday. Maugle, who finished with 14 kills and 17 digs, entered the afternoon needing just three kills to reach the 1,000 mark and picked them up in the first set. The senior outside hitter now boasts 1,039 kills and 1,016 digs and is the first UConn player to join the 1,000/1,000 club since the 2004 season. Maugle currently stands at No. 11 on UConn’s all-time kills leader chart. In Friday’s 3-0 win over Tulane, Maugle ended her career on a high note, posting a team-best 10 kills on 33 swings and scooping 16 digs.
