MEN’S BASKETBALL
Freshman Aaron Burton (Cheltenham) had a team-high 14 points and seven rebounds in DeSales University’s 60-59 win over Misericordia on Saturday. In Wednesday’s 55-48 loss to Manhattanville, Burton had six points and a season-high 10 rebounds. Senior Travis Bryan (Hatboro-Horsham) added five points, nine rebounds and two blocks. In last Sunday’s 80-75 win over Catholic University, Burton scored a season-high 20 points and pulled down nine rebounds. Bryan finished with seven points and nine boards.
Jaylen Bond (Plymouth Whitemarsh) scored 11 points off the bench while grabbing five rebounds and recording a career-high five steals and dishing a career-high four assists in Temple’s 58-57 win over La Salle on Saturday.
Josh Johnson (Norristown) finished with 13 points on 4-of-7 shooting and made 5-of-6 free throws with two blocks and two assists in 38 minutes in Kutztown’s 82-71 win over Millersville on Saturday. In Wednesday’s 76-61 win over Cheyney, he made all eight of his field goal attempts on his way to 18 points. He also had four rebounds, three assists and two blocks.
Arron Goodman (Council Rock North) had 21 points and 10 rebounds for his second double-double of the season in Gwynedd Mercy’s 103-93 loss to Rosemont on Saturday.
Julia Hyden (Bensalem) also recorded a double-double with 15 points and 12 rebounds. His 12 rebounds were a personal best. In Wednesday’s 80-38 win over Cairn, Hyden had six rebounds and nine points.
Senior guard Sean Brooks (North Penn) contributed 17 points, five assists and four steals on Washington College’s 59-58 loss to Gettysburg on Saturday. In Tuesday’s 81-66 win over Haverford, Brooks had 17 points and five assists, and junior forward Dave Knox (Central Bucks South) had 13 points.
Junior forward Ryan O’Neil (Central Bucks East) had five points in Moravian’s 84-77 loss to Muhlenberg last Sunday.
Wes Brooks (North Penn) had three steals, three assists, three rebounds and four points in McDaniel’s 73-52 win over Ursinus College on Saturday. In last Sunday’s 67-56 win over Lehman, Brooks had 13 points and two steals.
Alex Agyedu (Bensalem) had 14 points on 7-of-11 shooting and also had five assists in Penn State Abington’s 84-74 win over Penn State Berks on Saturday.
Senior Whis Grant (Plymouth Whitemarsh) scored 16 points in East Stroudsburg’s 99-79 win over Bloomsburg on Saturday. In Wednesday’s 73-69 win over Shippensburg, Grant scored 12 points to move into third in school history in career points (1,564).
WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
Sophomore Lauren Crisler (North Penn) scored a career-high 16 points in American University’s 77-51 win over UMBC on Wednesday.
Shippensburg freshman guard Vicky Tumasz (North Penn) was named the PSAC Eastern Division Freshman of the Week for the week ending Nov. 30. This was her second honor in the first three weeks of the season. Tumasz is thriving in her role as the first player off the bench. In three games l
ast week, she played the second most minutes of any SU player despite not starting. She shot 12-of-19 (63.2 percent) from three-point range and totaled 49 points, averaging 16.3 points per game. Overall, she shot 57.7 percent (15-of-26) from the field. Tumasz led Shippensburg with 20 points in 29 minutes off the bench, shooting 6-of-9 from three-point range and handing out three assists. She was an All-Pocono Classic Team selection, finishing the two-day weekend in East Stroudsburg with 33 points, shooting 56 percent from the field and making 9-of-14 from three-point range. On Tuesday, Tumasz had 16 points in 18 minutes at Bowie State. Through six games, Tumasz ranks third on the team with 11.8 points per game and is shooting 43 percent from three-point range. She has made 17 of SU’s 37 three-pointers.
Junior Stephanie Knauer (North Penn) scored 17 points and had a season-best 14 rebounds, which included a career-high 10 offensive boards, in Shippensburg’s 76-73 overtime loss to West Chester on Saturday. Tumasz scored nine points on 3-of-5 shooting from three-point range. In Wednesday’s 61-53 win over East Stroudsburg, Knauer had 10 points and seven rebounds.
Alvernia sophomore Tyra Roberts (Bensalem) was named Mimmo’s Athlete of the week for the third consecutive week. She posted a team-high 13 points and 10 rebounds against Delaware Valley.
Roberts contributed 11 points and 13 rebounds in Alvernia’s 85-66 loss to Arcadia on Wednesday.
Emily O’Donnell (William Tennent) notched her first career double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds in Albright’s 75-73 win over Lebanon Valley on Saturday.
Amie Eppolito (Pennsbury) scored 13 points in Cairn University’s 93-38 loss to Gwynedd Mercy on Saturday.
Jessica Schmidt (Abington) contributed eight points and four rebounds in Penn State Abington’s 86-44 win over Penn State Berks on Saturday. In last Sunday’s 53-41 win over Notre Dame of Maryland, Schmidt had 12 points and nine rebounds.
Junior Ciara ‘CC’ Andrews (Cheltenham) had 17 points and six rebounds in St. Joseph’s 58-54 win over Villanova on Sunday. In Thursday’s 73-71 loss to Lehigh, Andrews had 14 points and a pair of steals. In last Sunday’s 77-60 loss to Seton Hall in the title game of the Seton Hall Thanksgiving Tournament, Andrews scored a team-high 22 points. The Cheltenham grad was named to the all-tournament team.
Alex Wheatley (Council Rock South) was an efficient 8-for-12 from the floor in Princeton’s 83-54 win over Georgetown on Saturday, finishing with 17 points and eight rebounds.
Gwynedd Mercy sophomore Natasha Matthews (Norristown) was named CSAC Player of the Week for the week ending Dec. 1. Matthews registered a double-double with 26 points and 10 rebounds in Gwynedd’s 81-74 win over Neumann. She connected on 11-of-20 shots from the floor and was a perfect 4-for-4 from the free throw line while adding a pair of steals along with a block and an assist. On the season, she leads the team in scoring (15.3 ppg) and rebounding (9.0 rpg) and is ranked in the top 10 in both categories in the CSAC.
Matthews had 10 rebounds in Gwynedd Mercy’s 93-38 win over Cairn on Saturday. In Tuesday’s 57-54 win over Cabrini, Matthews had 18 points and eight rebounds.
Freshman Allison Gallagher (Souderton) recorded a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds in Widener’s 67-65 loss to Messiah on Saturday. She also had two assists and one steal. In Wednesday’s 76-69 loss to Albright, Gallagher recorded a team-high 22 points and also had two assists, one block and one steal. She shot 7-of-18 from the field with two rebounds.
Senior guard Shayla Felder (Cheltenham) scored a season-high 15 points and collected three steals in Chestnut Hill’s 72-57 win over Wilmington on Wednesday. She also dished out three assists.

FIELD HOCKEY
Lehigh sophomore Gabby Tofig (Council Rock North) was the recipient of the 2014 Outstanding Athlete award for field hockey. This award is given to the team member who makes the most outstanding contributions to the accomplishments of the team. Tofig led the Mountain Hawks’ offense in 2014, tallying 17 points on eight goals and one assist.
Arcadia sophomore Laura Squicciarini (North Penn), DeSales senior Alison Malatesta (William Tennent), DeSales senior Alyssa Malatesta (William Tennent), Messiah senior Becky Ely (Council Rock North), Misericordia senior Emily Hegner (Neshaminy), Widener sophomore Dana Adamson (Central Bucks South) and Wilkes junior Lexi Thompson (Central Bucks South) were named to the MAC Fall Academic Honor Roll. La Salle senior Colleen Kempf (Central Bucks South) was inducted into the Alpha Epsilon Honor Society, which recognizes seniors who exhibit “high scholarship in the pursuit of a Lasallian education together with exceptional participation in the extracurricular life of the university.”
FOOTBALL
California University of Pennsylvania senior offensive lineman Jack Abercrombie (Hatboro-Horsham) was named to the Daktronics All-Super Region One First Team. Abercrombie, who was the top vote getter among offensive linemen, earned all-region status for the second straight year after garnering second team accolades in 2013. He started all 10 games at center for an offense that averaged 447.6 yards of total offense and 38.1 points per game.
Lycoming senior running back Craig Needhammer (North Penn) was named a Capital One Academic All-American, earning a spot on the NCAA Division III squad’s second team. “Craig is everything you hope for in a student-athlete,” football coach Mike Clark said. “He is incredibly bright and physically talented. He maximizes his talents to be as good as he can be in everything he chooses to do.” Needhammer was one of the best running backs in Division III as a senior, helping him become the first Warrior running back to earn back-to-back First Team All-MAC accolades since 2000-01 and only the sixth in history to reach that feat. He finished third in the MAC with 1,242 rushing yards and second with 13 touchdowns. His 186.7 all-purpose yards per game led the conference and are sixth nationally. He posted the first two 300-all-purpose yard games in program history as a senior, earning USA College Football Offensive Player of the Week honors after his effort against Misericordia and then earning D3football.com Team of the Week accolades and USA College Football Running Back of the Week accolades after his 339-yard effort against FDU-Florham. The team captain rushed for a school record 299 yards in his last game at FDU-Florham, finishing with 3,713 career yards. He finished his career with a school record 42 touchdowns, 39 rushing touchdowns and 5,291 all-purpose yards. He set single-season records for rushing touchdowns (13), all-purpose yards (1,867) and kick return yards (482). He also set the single-game all-purpose yardage record of 339 yards. As a junior, Needhammer was named Academic All-District and Academic All-MAC while also earning his second MAC Academic Honor Roll accolade. In the classroom, Needhammer, a physics major with a mathematics minor, earned induction into the Sigma Pi Sigma Physics Honor Society and earning Dean’s List accolades four times. In the community, Needhammer has worked with the football team in Favors Forward Community Service Projects for the past four years. He also was named to the Fall MAC Academic Honor Roll.
DJ McFadden (Abington) caught five passes for 97 yards in Bloomsburg’s 32-26 loss to Concord in the Super Region 1 Championship Game on Saturday.

WOMEN’S SOCCER
Gettysburg senior midfielder Molly Phillips (Pennsbury) was named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America Division III Mid-Atlantic Region First Team. From her center midfielder position, Phillips played a major role in leading the Bullets to a first place finish in the Centennial Conference as the Bullets went 9-0-1 in conference play. The First Team All-Centennial Conference pick finished third on the team in goals (four), second in assists (three) and tied for third in points (11) despite missing most of the team’s final three games. Three of her goals were game winners, including her penalty kick in the Bullets’ 1-0 victory over Swarthmore College. Phillips also came off the bench in the NCAA Tournament and scored Gettysburg’s second goal during the penalty kick shootout.
West Chester senior midfielder Carly Yost (North Penn) was selected to the NSCAA All-Atlantic Region first team and was named second team All-America by the National Soccer Coaches Association (NSCAA). She also received first team All-PSAC recognition and Daktronics Inc. All-Atlantic Region honors. Yost played and started in all 22 games, posting a team-best 20 points on the year. She was second on the team in goals (7) and led the squad in assists (6), along with recording three game winners. During her four-year career, the Rams’ co-captain appeared in 64 games and notched 21 goals and 13 assists for 55 career points. She registered seven game-winning goals, including three in each of the past two campaigns. She was a force both up top at striker for three seasons and within the midfield for her senior year.

MEN’S SWIMMING
Rick Sutton (Hatboro-Horsham) finished first in the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:06.71.2 in Albright’s 150-71 victory over Wilkes on Saturday. He was second in the 200 butterfly. Teammate Tim Resch (Springfield) finished second in the 50 breaststroke with a time of 31.06 and third in the freestyle with a time of 24.16.
University of Delaware senior Tim Ware (Central Bucks South) set a new school record in the 100 backstroke at the 2014 AT&T Winter National Championships. He swam the heat in 48.99, which landed him a 24th place finish and a spot in the finals. The time was the fourth fastest time in program history and second fastest time in Ware’s career. In the finals, Ware improved upon his heat time by registering a time of 48.10 to set a new Delaware school record. The previous record was 48.56 set in 2010. Following his record-setting performance, he finished 47th in the 200 backstroke with a time of 1:48.71. The senior’s time was the fifth fastest time in program history.
Shippensburg senior RJ Phiambolis (Pennridge) finished ninth in the 500 free with a PSAC cut time of 4:52.10 at the Bomber Invitational hosted by Ithaca College on Friday. He also was part of the fifth place 200 relay that posted a time of 1:26.83 and the fifth place 800 free relay (7:09.12). He posted a PR of 48.29 in the 100 free, finishing 18th with the PSAC cut time, and he was part of the fourth place 400 free relay (3:11.70).
Conor Forlini (William Tennent) finished third in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:01.03 in West Chester’s 240-86 win over Ursinus on Saturday. Evan Sherkness (Plymouth Whitemarsh) and Geoff Boodey (Council Rock North) were part of the winning 400 medley relay with a time of 3:11.52. Forlini finished second in the 500 free (4:46.98) while Boodey was third (4:52.20). Sherkness was part of the second place 200 medley relay that posted a time of 1:37.10.
Andrew Richey (William Tennent) was part of IUP’s 200 medley relay that broke a school record with a time of 1:32.56 at the Zippy Invitational at Ohio University on Saturday. He also was part of the second place 200 free relay that posted a time of 1:23.62, breaking the previous school record of 1:24.40. He won the 50 free with a time of 20.90, breaking the previous school record set in 2005.
Gettysburg senior Ashton Leyens (Upper Dublin) registered a B-cut time while winning the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:39.59 at the Gettysburg Invitational on Saturday. He placed second in the 200 IM with a time of 1:56.25 and was part of the winning 200 freestyle relay that posted a B-cut time of 1:22.01. He also was part of the winning 400 free relay that posted a school record time of 2:59.81.
Bloomsburg’s Pat Stasio (Hatboro-Horsham) finished fourth in the 50 free with a time of 21:13 at the Akron Zippy Invitational this weekend. Tyler Washington (Central Bucks West) was part of the 400 medley relay that finished third (3:26.75). Stasio was fourth in the 100 free with a time of 46.64. Bloomsburg captured the team title.
WOMEN’S SWIMMING
Senior Liz Muller (Central Bucks West) captured first in the 200 freestyle with a time of 2:08.74 in Albright’s 140-83 win over Wilkes on Saturday. She was second in the 200 backstroke, posting a time of 2:27.46.
Bloomsburg’s Alex Wheatley (Upper Dublin) was part of the 400 medley relay that finished third and posted an NCAA ‘B’ cut and school record time of 3:47.89 at the Zippy Invitational at the University of Akron this weekend.
East Stroudsburg freshman Rebecca Samson (Council Rock North) finished 15th in the 200 IM with a time of 2:18.59 at the TCNJ Invitational this weekend. She posted a PSAC cut time of 2:17.29 in the preliminaries. Shirley Samson (Council Rock North) finished eighth in the 100 breast with a time of 1:10.73 while Rebecca Samson was 14th (1:12.44). Shirley Samson posted a PSAC cut time of 1:09.58 in the preliminaries. She was part of the fifth place 200 medley relay (1:54.41). In the preliminaries of the 200 breast, Rebecca Samson finished posted a PSAC cut time of 2:33.58, which is ninth all-time at ESU. Rebecca Samson finished 15th in the 100 back with a time of 1:05.61.
Dickinson sophomore Emily Houser (Upper Dublin) was part of both the 200 free and 400 medley relays that captured sixth place at the Gettysburg Invitational on Saturday. She also was part of the sixth place 400 free relay, and she placed eighth in the 200 freestyle. In Tuesday’s 109-96 win over Messiah, Houser finished first in the 100 free and was second in the 50 freestyle. She also was part of the second place 200 medley relay.
Shippensburg’s Carolyn Meier (Upper Dublin) finished third in the 200 free with a PSAC cut time of 1:54.43 at the Bomber Invitational hosted by Ithaca College on Saturday. She also was part of the third place 200 free relay that posted a time of 1:39.96 and the second place 400 medley relay (3:58.71). Meier was seventh in the 100 back with a PSAC cut time of 1:00.91 and was part of the second place 800 free relay that posted an NCAA ‘B’ time of 7:45.46. She finished eighth in the 200 backstroke with a PSAC cut time of 2:11.41 and was part of the third place 400 free relay (3:34.37). Devon Perugini (Neshaminy) met the league standard in the 50 free with a time of 25.83.
Rachel Engelhardt (Hatboro-Horsham) competed in her first meet after spending much of the fall semester abroad. She finished fourth in the 50 free in Elizabethtown’s 130.5-70.5 loss to Scranton on Saturday, and her time of 28.71 was fourth fastest on the team this year. The junior also set Elizabethtown’s third quickest 100 free time with a 1:02.48.
Dani Barron (Pennridge) was part of West Chester’s second place 800 free relay that posted a time of 8:03.10 at Ursinus on Friday.
Brown senior Kate Dillione (Council Rock North) had a strong showing in the 200 free at the Brown Invitational on Saturday, notching a third place finish with a mark of 1:48.94. She also was part of the winning 200 free relay and captured first place in the 50 free. She also was part of the winning 400 medley relay.
Ursinus senior Chelsea Kozior (Council Rock South) finished second in the 200 free with a time of 1:58.45 in the Golden Ram Invitational on Saturday. Kozior and sophomore Marisa Ferrari (Central Bucks East) were part of the winning 800 free relay that posted a time of 7:58.67. In Ursinus College’s 123.5-81.5 win over Swarthmore, Kozior won the 1000 free (11:49.43) and the 500 free (5:35.81). She also was part of the winning 200 medley relay.
WOMEN’S INDOOR TRACK & FIELD
Moravian freshman Casie Cronk (Quakertown) tied for third in the high jump at 1.55 meters (5 feet, 1 inch) at Lehigh University’s Fast Times Before Finals on Saturday. Her jump is tied for eighth in the Greyhound record books. Freshman Beth Davies (Quakertown) placed sixth in the pole vault at 2.90 meters (9 feet, 6.25 inches).
WRESTLING
Bucknell senior Joe Stolfi (Souderton) placed sixth in the 285-pound bracket at the Cliff Keen Invitational in Las Vegas, Nev., this weekend. Seeded fifth, Stolfi went 3-0 and advanced to the semifinals on Friday. He opened Saturday’s competition against top-seeded Nick Gwiadowski of North Carolina State and lost by an 11-1 score. Stolfi then lost to Minnesota’s ninth-seeded Michael Kroells by a 9-4 margin to fall into a fifth place match against Ohio State’s fourth-seeded Nick Tavanello, an opponent Stolfi defeated by decision on Friday. Tavanello posted a pin to finish in fifth place. Earlier, Stolfi notched his 38th career pin of Mason Kumashiro of Army and followed that with a major decision over Virginia’s Collin Campbell. He moved into the semis with a 3-1 decision against fourth-seeded Tavanello.
Elizabethtown’s Philip Torresani (Hatboro-Horsham) went 2-2 at the York New Standard Corporation Invitational this weekend.
Messiah junior Greg Kabakjian (Souderton) lost his first match of the Petrofes Invitational this weekend but then went on to win four straight. In the seventh place match, he lost a close 7-5 decision.
Ursinus senior Richard Jasinski (Pennridge) won his weight class at the Petrofes Invitational hosted by Messiah College on Saturday. He won his opening match over Tyler Miller of Messiah by pin in 2:01, then pinned James Gendler of Springfield in 1:19. In the quarterfinals, he defeated Stephen Turner of Wilkes by major decision (11-0) and then defeated Michael Polizzi of Stevens (6-2). In the title bout, he won over Arnold by medical forfeit.
Kutztown’s Matt Martoccio (Council Rock South) lost his second bout at the PSAC Championships hosted by Bloomsburg University on Saturday but clawed back in the consolation bracket to place third in the 157 weight class.
