Kutztown’s Brandon Martinez (North Penn) was named to the Dean’s List for the 2014 fall semester. To be eligible for the Dean’s List, an undergraduate student must be registered for at least 12 credits and have a minimum GPA of 3.60.
MEN’S BASKETBALL
Washington College junior forward Dave Knox (Central Bucks South) was named the Centennial Conference Men’s Basketball Co-Player of the Week for the week ending Jan. 11. Knox, who shared the award with Franklin & Marshall’s Cedric Moune, garnered the award for the first time. He also was named the Shoreman of the Week. Knox averaged a double-double of 25.0 points and 12.0 rebounds per game against a pair of ranked teams during the week, shooting 51.4 percent (19-for-37) from the floor. He scored 16 points and hauled down a game-best 13 rebounds to go along with three assists against No. 4 Dickinson. The junior scored a career-high and game-best 34 points and tied for game-high in rebounds with 11 and notched a couple of steals at No. 11 Franklin & Marshall. He also shot 89 percent from the free throw line (8-for-9) in two contests. He is the first Shoreman to win the conference weekly award since Jan. 30, 2012.
Knox had a team-best 17 points, game-best 12 rebounds and a career-best seven assists in Washington College’s 77-76 win over Muhlenberg on Saturday. Senior center Connor Silhanek (North Penn) tied his career high with three assists and led the team with two blocked shots. In Tuesday’s 83-68 loss to Ursinus, Knox scored 18 points and also had seven rebounds and tied his then career high with four assists.
Ryan Arcidiacono (Neshaminy) contributed seven points and three assists in No. 5 Villanova’s 62-47 win over Penn at the Palestra on Saturday night. In Thursday’s 88-75 win over Xavier, Arcidiacono led the Wildcats with 17 points.
Josh Johnson (Norristown) shot a perfect 9-for-9 from the field and scored 21 points for the second time in three games to lead Kutztown to an 89-85 road win over Bloomsburg on Saturday. In Wednesday’s 88-75 win over Shippensburg, Johnson had 16 points and 11 rebounds for his fifth double-double of the season. He was 6-for-11 from the field, highlighted by an and-one putback dunk. He also had two blocks.
Senior guard Whis Grant (Plymouth Whitemarsh) scored a season-high 27 points in East Stroudsburg’s 98-72 win over West Chester on Saturday. Grant, a two-time All-American, had his first 20-point game of the season and 29th of his career for the Warriors. He scored 17 points in the second half, hitting two three-pointers in the first minute of the period. He went over the 1700-point mark in his career (1704) late in the contest. Grant made a career-high six three-pointers one game after setting ESU’s school record. He has 245 career three’s, surpassing the previous mark of 236. In Wednesday’s 90-73 win at Cheyney, Grant scored 16 points.
Wes Brooks (North Penn) scored 14 points, going 4-for-4 from three-point range, in McDaniel’s 75-57 win over Swarthmore on Tuesday. In Saturday’s 59-58 win over Franklin & Marshall, Brooks finished with six points and a season-best five steals.
Freshman Aaron Burton (Cheltenham) contributed 15 points and eight rebounds and senior Travis Bryan (Hatboro-Horsham) added nine points and eight rebounds in DeSales University’s 82-68 win over FDU-Florham on Saturday. In Wednesday’s 73-60 loss at King’s, Burton had 12 points while Bryan added nine points and nine rebounds.
Sophomore Arron Goodman (Council Rock North) scored 16 points in Gwynedd Mercy’s 72-71 loss to Neumann University on Saturday. In Monday’s 94-78 win over Marywood, junior Julian Hyden (Bensalem) scored 22 points and also had nine rebounds and two blocks.
Junior forward Ryan O’Neil (Central Bucks East) scored 10 points and also had three rebounds in Moravian’s 69-66 win over Goucher College on Wednesday.
Marcus Badger (Plymouth Whitemarsh) had a team-high five assists in No. 16 Randolph-Macon’s 101-73 win over Roanoke on Saturday.
Anthony Moe (Souderton) contributed nine points, four rebounds and a block in Millersville 61-54 win at Shippensburg on Saturday.

Villanova University senior forward Emily Leer (Abington) was named to the Big East Women’s Basketball Weekly Honor Roll for her play in wins over Creighton and Georgetown. In the two wins, Leer averaged 14.5 points per game, 3.5 rebounds per contest and 2.5 assists while shooting 13-of-19 from the field (.684) and 2-of-5 from three-point range (.400). Her best effort of the two games came in Friday’s 65-61 win at Creighton when she had 17 points to go with four assists and two blocks. Leer has played in seven games this year and leads the Wildcats in scoring (13.3 ppg) and field goal percentage (.591). She ranks second on the team in blocked shots (13).
Leer scored 13 points in Villanova’s 54-34 win at Xavier on Sunday afternoon. The Abington grad has scored double figures in eight of the 10 games she has played. In Friday’s 72-58 loss at Butler, Leer led the Wildcats with 14 points on 5-of-11 shooting, including a 4-of-9 effort from three-point range.
Senior center Shannon Barlow (Neshaminy) scored a career-high 18 points in Delaware Valley’s 76-55 win at Manhattanville on Wednesday.
Tyra Roberts (Bensalem) scored 13 points in Alvernia’s 78-74 win over Weidner on Wednesday.
Senior Natasha Matthews (Norristown) had 12 points in Gwynedd Mercy’s 63-31 win over Cedar Crest on Wednesday. In Monday’s 71-55 win over Centenary, Matthews collected her fourth double-double of the season with 12 points and 11 rebounds.
Freshman Kaitlin Kelly (Pennsbury) had eight points and added five assists with no turnovers off the bench in DeSales University’s 69-59 loss to No. 1 FDU-Florham on Saturday.
Senior guard Shayla Felder (Cheltenham) scored a season-high 18 points on a 7-of-16 field goal effort and a perfect 3-of-3 from the foul line in Chestnut Hill’s 74-56 loss to Holy Family on Saturday. She also recorded four rebounds, four assists and a steal. In Tuesday’s 86-75 loss to Goldey-Beacom, Felder scored 14 points and also had four assists.

Amie Eppolito (Pennsbury) tallied six points and four assists in Cairn University’s 94-21 loss to Keystone College on Saturday. In Wednesday’s 70-52 loss to Notre Dame (Md.), Eppolito had 15 points, seven rebounds and six assists. In Monday’s 50-26 loss to Baptist Bible College, Eppolito had 13 points.

Freshman Vicky Tumasz (North Penn) hit a pair of important three-point field goals in the first half and recorded three assists. In Shippensburg’s 59-55 win over Kutztown on Wednesday, Knauer had 14 points – 10 in the first half – on 7-of-12 shooting. She had five rebounds, a season-high four steals and two assists.

Zach Brech (Upper Dublin) was part of Towson’s first place 400-yard freestyle relay that posted a time of 3:08.33 in the Tigers’ 178-120 win over Delaware on Saturday.
CJ Gimpel (Central Bucks South) won the 3-meter diving event (294.65) and finished second in the 1-meter (273.60) in La Salle’s 177-121 win over Fordham on Saturday.
Senior Rick Sutton (Hatboro-Horsham) won a pair of individual events and added a relay victory in Albright’s 127-57 win over King’s on Saturday. Sutton won the 200 free with a time of 1:54.21 and the 500 freestyle (4:51.83). He was part of the winning 200 medley relay that posted a time of 1:37.52. Teammate Tim Resch (Springfield) was part of the 200 medley relay that finished second with a time of 1:47.07 and was third in the 100 free with a time of 55.31.
Eric Jenson (Upper Dublin) was part of the winning 200 medley relay that posted a time of 1:32.45 in the
University of Buffalo’s 168-132 win over Miami (OH) on Friday.
Dylan Cooper (William Tennent) won the 500 free with a time of 5:11.79 in Ursinus College’s 125-68 win over Cabrini on Saturday. He also was part of the first place 200 medley relay that posted a time of 1:44.80.
Freshman Bob Bantley (Upper Dublin) finished first in the 200 free with a season-best time of 1:40.04 in day one of Penn State’s meet with Yale on Friday. TJ Schenkel (Council Rock South) placed third in the 1-meter diving
event with a score of 268.30. On Saturday, Bantley was part of the winning 400 free relay that posted a time of 2:58.98. In the 3-meter dive event, Schenkel posted a season-best score of 320.30 and finished first. Yale defeated Penn State 181-172.

Marist freshman Megan Berardelli (Wissahickon) was named the Corvias Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference Division I Metro/Upstate Diver of the Week for the week ending
Jan. 11. Finishing with a score of 283.42 points in the 1-meter dive, Berardelli broke a program record in Marist’s 165-105 victory over Southern Connecticut State on Jan. 10. Megan Duffy, ’06, had previously held the record of 283.35 points for eight years. Berardelli finished in second place on the 3-meter springboard with a mark of 258.90 points.
Berardelli racked up 259.87 points to take first place in the 3-meter event in Marist’s 163-137 win over Boston College on Saturday.
La Salle’s Sydney Szopo (Upper Moreland) took fourth in the 1-meter diving event in Saturday’s tri-meet with Fordham and Richmond. La Salle fell to Fordham 218-81 and Richmond 209-90.
Kate Dillione (Council Rock North) earn victories in the 200 free and 100 free and was part of the winning 400 free relay in Brown’s dual meet losses to Harvard and Penn on Saturday. The Bears fell to Harvard 175-124 and Penn 175.5-124.5.

East Stroudsburg’s Kelley Anne Stuetz (Cheltenham) finished seventh in the 55m hurdles with a time of 9.40 and sixth in the high jump (4-11) at the Kutztown Invitational on Friday. She also was part of the fifth place 4×400 relay that posted a time of 4:26.02. Mary-Kate Killoran (William Tennent) finished 11th in the 1000 meters with a time of 3:39.44. She also was part of the winning 4×800 relay that posted a time of 10:51.73.
Bloomsburg’s Tayler Harkins (North Penn) finished third overall and set a new school mark in the shot put with a throw of 12.18 meters (39’11.50”) at the Orange and Maroon Classic at Susquehanna University on Friday. She broke the mark set earlier this season of 12.12 meters. Harkins also finished fourth in the weight throw with a mark of 13.17 meters (43’02.50”).
Gwynedd Mercy senior Zakiyyah Richardson (Pennsbury) won the 60 meter dash at the Orange & Maroon Classic hosted by Susquehanna University on Friday.
West Chester’s Emily Dusellier (Souderton) won the 800 meters with a time of 2:23.68 at the Golden Bear Invitational on Friday. Her time was good for qualification into the 2015 PSAC Indoor Track & Field Championships next month. She also was part of the 4×400 meter relay team that won the event with a time of 4:07.45. Dara Lindsey (Central Bucks East) was third in the 400 meter dash while Emily Magnant (Hatboro-Horsham) was the runner-up in the 200 meter dash with a time of 27.21.
WRESTLING
Bucknell heavyweight Joe Stolfi (Souderton) earned his fourth career 5th Quarter Fresh Bison Athlete of the Week award last Monday following his 4-0 performance at the Virginia Duals. He helped the Bison to a 2-2 record at the competitive event, including a 25-12 win over No. 17 Rider. Stolfi, who is ranked in the top 20 nationally in his weight class, posted two pins, one major decision and a tight 3-2 win by decision to extend his personal winning streak to 11. He is now 24-5 on the year with 12 wins by fall and 18 total bonus-point victories. He now is tied for third with Bobby Ferraro on Bucknell’s career pins list with 44, and his 86 career victories overall place him 12th on that ledger. A two-time NCAA qualifier, Stolfi opened the Virginia Duals with a pin of Nebraska Kearney’s Ivan DeLeon in 2:49. He followed with a 10-2 major decision against ODU’s Matt Tourdot before concluding the first day with a 3-2 decision over West Virginia’s Anthony Viazcarrondo. Stolfi leads the Bison in victories (24), dual record (9-0), wins by fall (12) and major decisions (5). He has top-three finishes at the Clarion Open, Navy Classic and Lock Haven Invitational and is 15-5 in tournament competition.
Stolfi earned an 11-0 major decision at 285 over Jake Kettler in Bucknell’s 34-6 win over George Mason on Saturday. In Bucknell’s 36-6 win over Sacred Heart later that day, Stolfi pinned Jon Hartnett in 1:28. Earlier in the week, Bucknell wrestling was recognized by the National Wrestling Coaches Association for winning the Best of Brand Throwdown Challenge. The Bison earlier in the week had a picture posted on their Twitter account retweeted more than 200 times to win the competition. Also this week, the NCAA released its statistical leaders for the 2014-15 season, and Stolfi is ranked second nationally with 12 wins by fall. He is tied for third on Bucknell’s career list with 44, just six shy of the program’s all-time standard.
Elizabethtown’s Philip Torresani (Hatboro-Horsham) earned a pin in 6:32 in an exhibition match at 125 in Elizabethtown’s 23-13 loss to No. 23 at the York Invitational on Saturday. He earned a 13-2 major decision over Salvatore Anderson in Elizabethtown’s 25-19 loss to Washington & Jefferson later in the day.
Matt Martoccio (Council Rock South) earned a 3-2 decision at 157 over Zach Voyteck in Kutztown’s 24-13 win over Seton Hill on Saturday.
