BASEBALL
Kristopher Davis (Central Bucks East) had a career-high 15 strikeouts in Elizabethtown’s 12-0 win over Maritime (N.Y.) in Fort Pierce, Fla. Davis struck out the side in the second and had 11 punch outs on just 73 pitches through five innings. Not known for putting up big strikeout numbers, his previous career high was six. The senior actually surpassed his entire total of 14 from last season when he threw four complete games and had a career best 1.16 earned run average.
Sophomore Greg McDonough (Wissahickon) went 2-for-2 at the plate with two RBIs in Widener’s 3-2 win over Ohio Northern in Fort Myers, Fla., on Sunday. The outfielder recorded a double and triple in his two plate appearances. In Saturday’s 3-1 loss to Augustana, McDonough went 2-for-3 at the plate and scored the Pride’s only run.
Brandon DiBona (William Tennent) was 3-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored in Chestnut Hill’s 9-8 win over Southern Connecticut last Saturday. Robert Slagle III (Plymouth Whitemarsh) hit a solo home run while teammate Patrick Campion (Norristown) contributed a sacrifice fly. Austin DiBonaventure (Plymouth Whitemarsh) notched his first save of the season. In Chestnut Hill’s 12-0 loss to Stonehill College, Slagle had a pair of hits.
MEN’S BASKETBALL
Randolph-Macon senior Marcus Badger (Plymouth Whitemarsh) was named to the first team All-ODAC squad. The PW grad leads the ODAC and is 13th in the country in assist-turnover ratio at 2.81. Badger is fourth on the team with 8.4 points and leads the Yellow Jackets with 40 steals.
Badger was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player with 19 points, seven rebounds and seven assists in the title game as top-seeded Randolph-Macon outlasted No. 2 Virginia Wesleyan 81-74 in overtime in the ODAC Championship game Sunday afternoon at the Salem Civic Center. The top-ranked Yellow Jackets (26-2) won their sixth ODAC title and their 23rd consecutive game, a program record. Randolph-Macon earned the league’s automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. On Saturday, Badger had 13 points and seven assists in Randolph-Macon’s 67-57 win over Eastern Mennonite in a semifinal of the ODAC Tournament. In Thursday’s 72-63 win over Randolph in an ODAC quarterfinal game, Badger scored a career-high 26 points, connecting on 7-of-10 from the floor and 12-of-13 from the free throw line.
Josh Johnson (Norristown) led all scorers with his eighth double-double of the year, his second in a row, with 23 points and 11 rebounds in Kutztown’s 77-54 win over Shippensburg in Saturday’s opening round of the PSAC Tournament. He shot 7-for-12 from the field and 9-for-10 at the free throw line in his seventh straight game scoring in double figures. It is the program’s first playoff victory in five years. KU, the third seed in the tournament, advances to the quarterfinals to face second-seeded West Chester on Tuesday. In Wednesday’s 81-75 loss to East Stroudsburg, Johnson contributed 16 points and 11 rebounds.
Anthony Moe (Souderton) finished with 19 points and 18 rebounds for his fifth double-double in 14 games in Millersville’s 74-67 win over Lock Haven in an opening round game of the PSAC Tournament on Saturday. He converted four dunks in the win. Millersville will face East Stroudsburg on Tuesday in the PSAC quarterfinals.
Ryan Arcidiacono (Neshaminy) contributed 15 points and six assists in Villanova’s 78-66 win over Xavier. The win clinched the second straight BIG EAST crown for the Wildcats.
Junior forward Jaylen Bond (Plymouth Whitemarsh) pulled down nine rebounds in Temple’s 66-54 win over Houston on Thursday. In last Sunday’s 55-39 loss to Tulsa, Bond led the Owls with 11 rebounds.
Junior forward Ryan O’Neil (Central Bucks East) contributed seven points in Moravian’s 58-53 loss to Juniata in last Sunday’s season finale.
Senior guard Whis Grant (Plymouth Whitemarsh) scored 15 points in East Stroudsburg’s 77-54 win over Shippensburg on Saturday in an opening round game of the PSAC Tournament. ESU, the defending PSAC champ, will host Millersville in a quarterfinal game on Tuesday.
WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
Widener freshman Allison Gallagher (Souderton) earned second team All-Commonwealth Conference honors. She also was named the Commonwealth Conference Rookie of the Year for the 2014-15 campaign. She set a new record for points scored in a season by a freshman with 380 in 25 games played. On Jan. 8 in a contest against Lebanon Valley, Gallagher recorded a career high 26 points. The freshman guard averaged 15.2 points a game this season. She recorded 35 assists, 31 steals and shot 42.9 percent from the field for her freshman season. Gallagher started all 25 games she appeared in and recorded 816 minutes.
Junior Ciara ‘CC’ Andrews (Cheltenham) scored a game-high 21 points in St. Joseph’s 67-55 win over La Salle in its regular season finale on Sunday. The Cheltenham grad was 8-of-14 from the field and 5-of-6 from the foul line. In Wednesday’s 60-49 win over Duquesne, Andrews matched her career high with 23 points. She was 11-of-23 from the floor and 6-of-9 from the foul line while adding four rebounds, two steals and an assist.
Senior center Emily Leer (Abington) scored 12 points on 6-of-11 shooting in Villanova’s 71-62 win over Princeton on Saturday.
Alex Wheatley (Council Rock South) scored 13 points while going a perfect 6-for-6 from the field in 14th-ranked Princeton’s 79-67 victory over Brown on Friday night.
Alvernia sophomore Tyra Roberts (Bensalem) received honorable mention All-Commonwealth Conference recognition. The Bensalem grad led the Crusaders with 13.7 points per game and 9.9 rebounds. She was sixth in the conference in both categories.
Shayla Felder (Cheltenham) scored 17 points in her final collegiate game, a 71-60 loss to Holy Family on Tuesday. She was 6-for-7 from the free throw line and also had three steals.
Gwynedd Mercy senior Natasha Matthews (Norristown) was named to the second team All-Colonial States Athletic Conference, earning her third all-conference honor in a row. Matthews, who garnered back-to-back honorable mention selections, leads the team in scoring (12.1 ppg) and is second in rebounding (7.8 rpg) and blocks (16). A starter in all 25 games, she surpassed the career 1,000-point milestone on Jan. 19.
Matthews was named to the CSAC honor roll for the week ending Feb. 23 in the conference’s final awards of the season. The Norristown grad averaged over 15 points in the final three contests of the regular season in a 2-1 week. She scored 15 points on 7-of-11 shooting along with seven rebounds, two assists, a block and a steal at Cabrini. She netted 16 points and added seven boards in a win over Cairn on Senior Night. She capped the week with a game-high 20 points and added 10 rebounds for a double-double along with two assists and two steals in the victory over Marywood.
Matthews saw her career come to an end Wednesday when Gwynedd lost to Immaculata 74-46 in a CSAC Tournament semifinal. Matthews, who was granted a medical redshirt after four games in the 2010-11 season, leaves with 110 games played, surpassing the 1,000-point mark with 1,129 career points. She also added 689 rebounds, 84 steals and 76 blocks. She was part of the last CSAC Championship that the Griffins won in 2012. In Monday’s 71-60 win over Rosemont, Matthews had 12 points, 10 rebounds and four blocks.
Freshman Vicky Tumasz (North Penn) had nine points on 3-of-5 shooting in Shippensburg’s 83-60 win over East Stroudsburg in the opening round of the PSAC tournament on Saturday. The win snapped a seven-game PSAC playoff losing streak and is the program’s first in the postseason since 2004. In Wednesday’s 88-70 win over Cheyney, Knauer contributed 18 points and four rebounds.
Junior Emily O’Donnell (William Tennent) scored eight points in Albright’s 54-50 loss to Stevenson in the Commonwealth Conference championship game Saturday. In Albright’s 59-42 win over Messiah in a semifinal game, O’Donnell had six points.
Shannon Barlow (Neshaminy) contributed eight points in Delaware Valley’s 79-49 loss to FDU-Florham in a Freedom Conference semifinal contest.
Cairn University junior Amie Eppolito (Pennsbury) received honorable mention recognition on the All-CSAC team. She led the team with 13.6 points a game on just under 40 minutes played per game. She totaled 299 points for the season and 103 rebounds. The conference award was the first for Eppolito at Cairn.
Penn State Abington senior center Jessica Schmidt (Abington) earned third team All-NEAC honors. She leaves Penn State with numerous single season records and is third all time in scoring with over 1000 points.
Schmidt recorded her second double-double of the season with 12 points and 13 rebounds in Penn State Abington’s 64-55 upset win over SUNY Poly in the semifinal game of the NEAC tournament on Saturday. Abington will make history with its first appearance in the NEAC finals since joining the conference.
MEN’S LACROSSE
Senior Garrett Rosiek (Wissahickon) scored a goal in Aurora Universtiy’s 13-6 loss to Albion College on Saturday.
Junior attack Liam Duke (Upper Dublin) contributed a goal and sophomore midfielder Corey Kelly (Plymouth Whitemarsh) had four ground balls in Ursinus College’s 6-2 win over Mary Washington on Saturday.
WOMEN’S LACROSSE
Senior Caitlin Carrezola (Neshaminy) tallied a team-high three ground balls in Holy Family’s 16-3 loss to No. 4 LIU Post on Saturday.
Jessica Watts (Abington) scored a pair of goals while Bridget Meade (Upper Moreland) added a single goal in Penn State Abington’s 18-13 win over Bryn Mawr in its season opener Saturday.
Stephanie Hogan (Central Bucks West) scored three goals in Eastern’s 14-9 loss to Widener on Saturday.
Madi Brunk (Cheltenham) contributed a goal and an assist in Messiah’s 13-8 loss to No. 6 Gettysburg on Saturday. In Tuesday’s 16-1 win over Scranton, Brunk and Becky Ely (Council Rock North) both were credited with five ground balls.
SOFTBALL
Junior Morgan Decker (Central Bucks South) delivered an RBI single in Lehigh’s 2-0 win over Northern Iowa at the Diamond 9 Citrus Classic II in Orlando, Fla., on Sunday. In Friday’s 15-7 loss to IUP, Decker was 2-for-3 with an RBI double and run scored.
Junior Haileigh Stocks (Central Bucks South) reached base three times – twice via a hit and once via a walk – and also earned the win in relief in Robert Morris University’s 8-5 win over St. Bonaventure on Saturday. Stocks tossed four innings and yielded a lone unearned run while striking out six against a single walk.
Senior Julie Wambold (Hatboro-Horsham) was 2-for-3 with two RBIs in Syracuse’s 6-0 win over Nevada last Sunday in Cathedral City, Calif.
MEN’S SWIMMING & DIVING
University of Delaware senior Tim Ware (Central Bucks South) set a new school record and Colonial Athletic Association Championship record, winning the 100 backstroke with a time of 46.90 at the CAA Championships on Friday. Ware had previously set the UD record of 48.10 in December at the AT&T Winter National Championships. The meet record of 47.82 was posted by Will Manion of William & Mary at the CAA Championship in 2013. In addition to his blistering time in the 100 back, Ware swam the fastest second time in school history in the 100 butterfly when the senior swam the race in 58.85 in the prelims. On Wednesday, Ware was part of Delaware’s sixth place 200 medley relay team that posted a time of 1:29.79.
Gettysburg senior Ashton Leyens (Upper Dublin) was named to the All-Centennial Conference first team as part of the 200 freestyle relay, 400 freestyle relay and 800 freestyle relay. He received honorable mention in the 100 freestyle and 200 freestyle.
Leyens part of Gettysburg’s winning 400 free relay that posted a B-cut time of 3:00.03 at the Centennial Conference championships on Sunday. The men’s team won its fifth consecutive title.
Bob Bantley (Upper Dublin) was part of Penn State’s eighth place 800 free relay that posted a season-best time of 6:28.32 at the 2015 Big Ten Championships. He earned three points with his 1:36.72 performance in the 200 free. He was part of the fifth place 400 free relay that posted a season fastest time of 2:53.19. Senior TJ Schenkel (Council Rock South) placed 15th in the one-meter dive with a score of 301.65, competing in the ‘B’ final.
North Carolina junior Ozzie Moyer (Souderton) placed 14th on the 10-meter platform with a score of 282.00 at the 2015 ACC Championships on Saturday. He finished ninth in the one-meter diving competition with 316.85 points and 16th in the three-meter diving competition with a score of 328.05 points.
Sophomore Spencer Collopy (William Tennent) was part of Ursinus College’s fourth place 400 free relay that posted a time of 3:12.19 at the Centennial Conference Championship last Sunday. Ursinus finished fourth as a team. The team was recognized this week as a Scholar All-America team by the College Swimming Coaches Association of America. To achieve this honor, teams must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher during the fall semester. The men’s team had a 3.21 GPA.
Senior RJ Phiambolis (Pennridge) was part of Shippensburg’s fifth place 400 freestyle relay that posted a time of 3:10.05 at the PSAC Championships last weekend.
La Salle junior CJ Gimpel (Central Bucks South) scored 269.60 on the one-meter dive to earn a share of the silver at the Atlantic 10 Championships last weekend.
WOMEN’S SWIMMING & DIVING
Marist freshman Megan Berardelli (Wissahickon) broke the school record in the three-meter dive, leading the Marist women’s swimming and diving team to 251 points and a fifth place ranking after day two at the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships on Saturday. The Wissahickon grad racked up 300.20 points on the three-meter board, finishing 18.60 points ahead of the rest of the field to become the ECAC Champion in the event. She was the only first place finisher at the meet for the Red Foxes. Berardelli broke Melissa Mangona’s record of 290.40 points set in 2008 and now owns program records in the one-meter and three-meter boards. Berardelli finished fifth on the one-meter board with a score of 243.50. Marist women’s swimming and diving team was announced as one of the 2014 Fall Scholar All-America Teams by the College Swimming Coaches Association of American. The organization’s award is presented to college and university swimming and diving teams who have achieved a grade point average of 3.0 or higher in the fall semester.
Ursinus College senior Chelsea Kozior (Council Rock South) was a first team All-Centennial selection for the 400 and 800 free relay.
Kozior was part of Ursinus College’s winning 400 free relay that posted a NCAA B cut time of 3:30.77 and propelled the Bears to their second straight Centennial Conference title last Sunday. Sophomore Marisa Ferrari (Central Bucks East) was part of the 400 free relay that won the B final with a time of 3:36.82. The team was recognized this week as a Scholar All-America team by the College Swimming Coaches Association of America. To achieve this honor, teams must have a cumulative grade point averge of 3.0 or higher during the fall semester. The women’s team had a 3.31 GPA.

Eve Kosten (North Penn) was part of the University of Buffalo’s winning 400 freestyle relay that posted a pool record time of 3:20.86 on Saturday at the Mid-American Conference Swimming and Diving Championships. On Thursday night, Kosten was part of the second place 200 freestyle relay that posted a time of 1:31.28.
Dickinson sophomore Emily Houser (Upper Dublin) touched the wall in 2:10.55 in the 200 backstroke to finish sixth at the 2015 Centennial Conference Championships last Sunday.
Franklin & Marshall junior Taylor Mateja (Upper Merion) placed fourth with a time of 2:10.31 in the 200 backstroke at the 2015 Centennial Conference Championships last Sunday.
Pitt sophomore Rachel Saunders (Central Bucks West) finished fourth in the three-meter dive with a score of 266.85 at the 2015 ECAC Championships on Saturday.
MEN’S TRACK & FIELD
Pitt sophomore Chris Spadaro (Council Rock South) leaped to a personal best in the triple jump with a distance of 14.27 at the 2015 ACC Indoor Track Championships on Saturday. His distance landed him 12th place overall. In the long jump competition, Spadaro launched himself a distance of 7.04m, edging out the season high mark of 7.02m, set the day before by Luke Gallaher, for best jump of the season. Spadaro placed 10th in the event overall.
Johns Hopkins senior Michael Spadaro (Council Rock South) finished first in the heptathlon this weekend (4,539 points) at the Centennial Indoor Championships at Haverford. Competing in the first four events of the heptathlon on Saturday at day one, Spadaro took home first place in the 60 meter dash, long jump and high jump. Spardaro’s 60 time of 7.50 earned him the top place, and his 6.22m (20-05.00) in the long jump was nearly a full foot beyond the second place finisher. He also cleared 1.94m (6-04.25) in the high jump. Spadaro’s lone non-first place finish came in the shot put where he finished third. Individually, Spadaro finished first int he long jump.
Shawn Young (Central Bucks West) was part of West Chester’s second place 4×400 relay team that clocked a time of 3:21.15 at the 2015 PSAC Indoor Championships on Sunday.
Senior Matt Bee (Central Bucks West) was part of Shippensburg’s winning 4×800 relay that posted a time of 7:55.23, a 1.5 second win over Lock Haven, at the 2015 PSAC Indoor Track & Field Championships on Saturday. Freshman Alex Balla (Quakertown) posted a PR of 15:03.47 in the 5K and finished sixth.
Michael Quinn (Plymouth Whitemarsh) was part of Widener’s winning 4×800 meter relay that recorded a time of 7:58.64 at the Middle Atlantic Conference Championships on Saturday. Sophomore Nick Pettit (Central Bucks South) finished sixth in the 800 meter race with a time of 1:59.41. Widener earned their sixth consecutive Middle Atlantic Conference championship.
Ron Smith (Neshaminy) was part of Kutztown’s third place 4×400 relay that posted a time of 3:21.63 at the 2015 PSAC Indoor Championships on Sunday. Chris Varichione (Quakertown) Placed fifth in the weight throw, recording the third best toss in KU history (55-7).
East Stroudsburg junior Eric Conard (Souderton) was fifth in the men’s heptathlon with 4,447 points, just off his PR, and moved up from 10th through four events after the first day of action. Sean Hagerty (Pennridge) finished 13th in the long jump (21-0 ¾).
WOMEN’S TRACK & FIELD
Pitt junior Morgan Perry (Pennsbury) shaved eight seconds off of her personal best in the women’s 3000 meter run at the 2015 ACC Indoor Track Championships on Saturday, registering a time of 9:57.03. Her time was good for second-best this season for Pitt. Perry finished 26th overall.
East Stroudsburg’s Kelley Anne Stuetz (Cheltenham) finished 18th in the high jump (5-0 ¼) at the 2015 PSAC Championships on Saturday. She also was 18th in the 60m hurdles with a time of 9.51, 10th all-time at ESU.
Temple sophomore Sydnee Jacques (North Penn) set a personal best in the triple jump with a distance of 11.97m on the final day of the American Athletic Conference Indoor Championships on Saturday.
Bloomsburg senior Kate Dodds (Upper Dublin) swept the distance events at the 2015 PSAC Indoor Championships, winning the 3K title on Sunday after claiming the 5K title. For her efforts, she was named the Most Outstanding Athlete of the PSAC Championships. Dodds capped an outstanding two days of competition winning the 3K race with an NCAA D-II provisional time of 9:58.06, finishing three seconds over the second place finisher. Teammate Keelan McDonald (Central Bucks West) posted a time of 10:39.22 and Jessica Quesenberry (Wissahickon) finished in 11:02.45. Dodds opened day two by finishing second in the mile run in an NCAA D-II provisional time of 5:05.01. In the 400 meters, Alexis Rankin (Hatboro-Horsham) ran a 2:25.64.Taylor Harkins (North Penn) placed 13th in the shot put with a throw of 11.62 meters (38’01.50”). On Saturday, Dodds won the 5000-meter title in an NCAA D-II provisional time of 17:14.23, winning by eight seconds. Also running in the 5K was McDonald, who was 16th in 18:21.61, while Quesenberry was 30th in 19:52.05. Rankin was part of the Huskies’ second place distance medley relay that posted a time of 12:13.62. In the weight throw, Harkins was 13th with a throw of 13.81 meters (45.3.75”)
West Chester senior Danielle Kuhn (Central Bucks East) picked up a pair of top eight performances at the 2015 PSAC Indoor Championships on Saturday. She place sixth in the long jump and seventh in the pentathlon to account for five of West Chester’s 16 points on the first day of the championships. Dara Lindsey (Central Bucks East) and Emily Magnant (Hatboro-Horsham) were part of West Chester’s runner-up 4×400 relay that posted a time of 3:58.77 on Sunday.
Kutztown freshman Anecia Alexaki (Upper Merion) finished 10th in the pole vault with a vault of 10-2.50 at the 2015 PSAC Indoor Championships on Saturday.
Freshman Casie Cronk (Quakertown) was part of Moravian’s winning 4×400 meter relay that posted a time of 4:11.57 in the Landmark Conference Indoor Championships on Saturday. Cronk also finished sixth in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:04.48. She was t
hird in the high jump, clearing 1.52 meters (4-11.75). Sophomore Lauren Suelke (Quakertown) finished third in the triple jump with a jump of 10.64 meters (34-11). She was fourth in the long jump at 4.87 meters (15-11.75). Freshman Beth Davies (Quakertown) was the runner-up in the pole vault at 3.04 meters (9-11.75). Sophomore Sarah Hughes (Souderton) was fourth in the 3,000-meter run in 10:53.64, and she placed fifth in the mile run in 5:18.50. Moravian captured its eight consecutive Landmark title.
Widener senior Amber Char (William Tennent) finished second in the pole vault and qualified for the ECAC Championships with a vault of 3.35 meters (10-11.75) at the Middle Atlantic Conference Championship on Saturday.
WRESTLING
Kutztown redshirt junior Matt Martoccio (Council Rock South), who just missed nationals last year when he finished fourth, took care of business this time around with a third place finish at 157 at the NCAA Division II Super Region I Championships on Saturday, punching his first career ticket to nationals. Martoccio lost his opening bound on Saturday to the No. 2 seed but bounced back with two victories in the consolation bracket. Kutztown finished third as a team.
MEN’S VOLLEYBALL
Sophomore Christian Lizano (Pennridge) had four kills and two aces in Vassar College’s 3-0 loss to Baruch College on Friday.
Andy Willits (North Penn), playing in his second match of the season from the opposite position, led the team with 17 kills and a .294 hitting percentage in Cairn University’s 3-1 loss to No. 3 SUNY New Paltz on Saturday. In Cairn’s 3-0 win over Brooklyn later in the day, Micah Godshall (Souderton) had five aces and seven kills on 10 attempts. In Wednesday’s 3-1 win at New Jersey City, Willits had 10 kills on 27 attempts, and he also had four service aces. Ryan Garven (Council Rock North) led the team in digs with seven, and Godshall had a six-point service run that included two aces.
