NESHAMINY 11, SOUDERTON 5
The Redskins pounded out 13 hits and plated runs in every inning but the fourth in Wednesday’s win over the Indians, but coach Dave Chicilitti acknowledged it wasn’t always pretty on the blustery, cold spring day.
“There were seven errors – four by us and three by them,” the Redskins’ coach said. “I know at least two of ours were because of the wind, and I’m pretty certain that at least two of theirs were because of the wind.
“You take that away, and you might have a mistake here or there, but absolutely, the wind played a factor in the game. Not to mention it was Souderton’s first game, and it was our fifth day outside. You put those conditions on top of that, and you don’t know what you’re going to get.”
Freshman pitcher Amber Brugger picked up her second win in as many days, throwing the first four innings and allowing just one earned run. She struck out four and walked one, and by the time she was relieved in the fifth, the Redskins, who scored one in the first, three in the second and two in the third, led 6-3.
“She pitched really well again,” said Chichilitti. “She gave way to the other freshman (Sarah Dowalo) who pitched well too.”
Offensively, Hunter Hart led the Redskins with a perfect 3-for-3 day at the plate with a double and two RBIs. It was Hart’s two-run double in the third that spotted the ‘Skins a 6-0 lead. Sam Offenback was 2-for-3 with an RBI while Mackensie Compton and Olivia Zaino both also had a pair of hits.
Freshman Alexis Watkins made her first varsity hit a memorable one, hitting a bomb over the left field fence.
“We hit very well today, especially after yesterday only scoring one run – I had a feeling we were going to score some runs today,” said Chichilitti, whose team was coming off a 1-0 win in eight innings over Bensalem.
For the Indians, Dayna Shelly was 2-for-4 with a double and run scored. Missy Wiley was 2-for-4, and Alex Gaydos was 2-for-2 with a run scored. Savannah Bostwick was 2-for-3.
While the Indians are 0-1, the Redskins are 2-0 on the young season.

ABINGTON 4, CENTRAL BUCKS EAST 1
The Ghosts are turning some heads with a 2-0 start that includes road wins over a pair of perennial SOL powers. Twenty-four hours after knocking off defending SOL National Conference co-champion Pennsbury, the Ghosts upended a Patriot squad that last finished tied for second behind eventual state champion Souderton in the SOL Continental standings last season after capturing the district title the year before.
“It’s great,” Abington coach Ellie White said. “When you beat two very good teams, you have a little confidence going into the rest of the season.
“All of the teams are starting to get their feet under them because no one has been outside. I know every other team is in the same position as we are, so to be able to come out and win and go into spring break 2-0 is a good feeling. It’s good for the girls. They deserve it – they work hard.”
The Ghosts served early notice that they meant business, plating a pair of runs in the first. Jamie Gosselin, who drew a leadoff walk, scored when Nicolette Ray ripped an RBI triple. Amy Worek continued to have a hot bat, delivering an RBI single to put the Ghosts on top 2-0.
A solo home run by Jade Sowell in the third gave the Ghosts a 3-0 lead. The two teams exchanged late runs with the Patriots breaking up the Ghosts’ shutout bid with a run in the sixth. Abington got that run back in the top of the seventh.
Worek and Jess Paley led the Ghosts with a pair of hits. Ray earned her second win as many days. She struck out a pair.
“They put the ball in play – that’s a pretty good hitting team,” White said. “Nicolette pitched great today. I thought she did a great job.
“We ended up with three double plays. They would get people on, and then they would hit a hard line drive to someone – we would have that out, and then we would pick someone off of the base. We came up big defensively a lot even though every once in a while we did kick the ball around. We came out of some big jams, which is nice.”
While CB East is 2-1 (1-0 SOL), the Ghosts are 2-0 (1-0 SOL).

HATBORO-HORSHAM 10, HARRY S TRUMAN 7 (8 innings)
Jaynie Black drilled a three-run home run in the top of the eighth inning to propel the Hatters to the dramatic win in their first game of the season. Black finished a productive day 2-for-4 with three RBIs and three runs scored.
Dee Moyer also had a big day, finishing 3-for-5 with an RBI and three runs scored. Bridget Schaffer was 2-for-4 with an RBI and run scored, and Kyleigh Dineen was 2-for-4 with an RBI in her first ever varsity start.
For Truman, junior Mary Carins hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the fifth of a seesaw affair that saw the Hatters take 3-1 lead into the bottom of the fifth. Cairins’ blast made it a 3-3 game. The Hatters scored two in the top of the sixth only to watch the Tigers answer with four in the bottom of the frame to go on top 7-5. Down but not out, the Hatters rallied to knot the score with two runs in the top of the seventh, setting the stage for the dramatic finish.
The Hatters (1-0) had 10 runs and 11 hits but committed eight errors. The Tigers (1-2), who had five errors, had seven runs on seven hits.
“We hit well but were plagued by errors, both mental and physical,” Truman coach Kyle Hoffman said. “They were a good hitting team, consistently put the ball in play. They battled throughout the game and took advantage of errors.”

WISSAHICKON 16, GERMANTOWN ACADEMY 6 (5 innings)
The Trojans found themselves staring at a 3-0 deficit after one inning but exploded for six runs in the second. They added six more in the fourth and four in the fifth to put the mercy rule into effect and bring an early end to the game.
“We’re just hitting the ball good,” said coach Mike Borkowski, whose team was coming off a 16-8 loss to Springfield the preceding day. “It was a good game for us to play. In the second, fourth and fifth innings we really hit the ball good.”
Offensive heroes for the Trojans included Julianne Griffin with two hits, including a double and a team-high three RBIs, Destini Paige, who was 2-for-4 with a double, two RBIs and two runs scored, and Michela Coleman, who finished the day 2-for 5 with two RBIs and two runs scored.
Halle Segal picked up the win in the circle for the Trojans, who evened their record at 1-1.

PENNRIDGE 6, GWYNEDD MERCY 0
Liz Nace and Meghan Bauer combined to throw a complete game shutout in Wednesday’s non-league contest. Nase picked up the win, working five and a third innings. She allowed three hits and no walks while fanning 11 in an overpowering performance. Bauer came in and retired the final five Monarch batters in order.
Julia Helbling led the Lady Rams’ offense with a perfect 3-for-3 effort at the plate that included a triple and one RBI. Briana Gery was 1-for-3 with two RBIs. Meghan Bauer and Sam Harty both had a hit and one RBI. Natalie Babik also drove in a run with a sacrifice fly to left field.
The Lady Rams were flawless in the field and did not commit an error in seven innings.
For the Monarchs, Tara Sheehan tripled in the first inning but was erased at the plate on a failed suicide squeeze. Gabbie Salamone and Christina Shrager both had a hit.
NORTH PENN 13, ARCHBISHOP WOOD 0 (5 innings)
The Maidens bounced back from their disappointing loss to Central Bucks South with a vengeance, pounding out 12 hits in four innings in the abbreviated game that was halted after four and a half innings because of the mercy rule.
The Maidens erupted for five runs in the first, and they were just getting started, adding two in the second, four in the third and two more in the fourth. The Vikings managed just two hits off winning pitcher Jackie Bilotti, who fanned nine and walked one.
Offensively, Bilotti helped her own cause with a 2-for-4 effort that included a home run and three RBIs. Hannah Uhler was 3-for-4 with three RBIs, and Melanie Lauro (2-for-3), Katie Beer (2-for-3) and Becky Christoffers (2-for-4) also had multiple hits for the Maidens, who improved to 2-1 (0-1 SOL).
