BASEBALL
Senior rightfielder Matt Hanson (Central Bucks West) earned his 200th career hit in Moravian’s 9-4 win over the United States Merchant Marine Academy on Sunday. Hanson, who was 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a run scored, joined Kevin O’Keefe (’12) as the only two players in school history with 200 hits. O’Keefe holds the record with 212 hits. In Saturday’s 3-1 win over the United State Merchant Marine Academy in a doubleheader split, Hanson was 3-for-3. On the mound, freshman Dan Morrin (Central Bucks East) pitched a complete game for his fourth win of the season. He fanned three. In Tuesday’s 9-8 loss to Neumann University, Hanson had a single, RBI, run scored and two stolen bases.
West Chester senior shortstop Dylan Tice (Pennridge) was recently named a semifinalist for the 2015 Tino Martinez/Baseball News Division II Player of the Year. The 30 student-athletes named comprise an elite list of top players at the DII level. Tice is currently hitting .443 (51-for-115) with 14 doubles, five triples and eight home runs. He has an .861 slugging percentage and .559 on-base percentage in 2015. He also has struck out just twice in 145 plate appearances this spring. Tice has put together one of the most prolific seasons in school history while leading West Chester to the PSAC Tournament and a No. 2 ranking regionally within the NCAA. The winner of the 2015 Tino Martinez Award will be named Monday, June 1. Tice is the second West Chester baseball player to be recognized as a semifinalist.
Tice hit his team-leading ninth home run of the year to help lead West Chester to an 8-7 win in eight innings over Mansfield. He finished the game 2-for-3. In Saturday’s doubleheader split with Shippensburg, Tice was 5-for-8 with three runs scored. In Friday’s 7-3 win over Shippensburg in the nightcap of a doubleheader, Tice was 2-for-3. In West Chester’s 8-7 win over No. 27 Wilmington on Tuesday, Tyler Coleman (Quakertown) was 2-for-5 with two runs scored and an RBI. Tice had an RBI single.
Cory Capaldi (Souderton) was 2-for-3 with a pair of RBIs in Pace University’s 8-5 win over Bridgeport on Saturday.
Dylan Borawski (North Penn) earned the win in relief in Northampton’s 8-4 win in game two of a doubleheader sweep over Middlesex County College on Saturday, going 6.1 innings and allowing one run on three hits while striking out four. In Tuesday night’s 6-3 win over Lehigh Carbon County, Ben Hauser (Central Bucks East) was 2-for-4.
Chris Barr (North Penn) had a Senior Day to remember on Sunday. In game two of RIT’s doubleheader sweep of defending Liberty League Champion Union College – an 11-2 RIT win, Barr was 2-for-4 with an RBI and a career high four runs scored. He also stole three bases, giving him 13 on the season.
Zach Philippi (Harry S Truman) did not allow a hit in a scoreless ninth inning in relief to earn his second save in York College’s 12-9 win over Rowan on Wednesday. In last Sunday’s 7-3 win over Franklin & Marshall, Philippi threw a scoreless ninth inning.
Patrick Campion (Norristown) was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs in Chestnut Hill’s 12-11 win over Post University on Saturday. In Tuesday’s 18-2 win over Philadelphia University, Campion was 3-for-4 with two runs scored, Robert Slagle III (Norristown) was 3-for-5 with a double, RBI and run scored, and Patrick Kelley (Central Bucks West) was 3-for-5 with a double, RBI and three runs scored. Austin DiBonaventure (Plymouth Whitemarsh) tossed a scoreless inning in relief.
Kyle Wenger (Souderton) was 3-for-3 with a home run, two RBIs and two runs scored in Delaware Valley’s 9-4 loss to Eastern University on Saturday. The home run was his fifth of the year. In Thursday’s 19-10 win over Baptist Bible College in game one of a doubleheader sweep, Wenger was 2-for-4 with a double, triple, two stolen bases, three RBIs and three runs scored. In Del Val’s 12-4 win in game two, Wenger was 1-for-2 with two RBIs.
Junior Steve Wright (Council Rock South) singled and scored in Gettysburg’s 4-3 win over Johns Hopkins in 10 innings last Sunday.
Brady West (North Penn) had an RBI single in Bloomsburg’s 10-1 win over East Stroudsburg on Saturday.
Kristopher Davis (Central Bucks East) earned the win in Elizabethtown’s 5-2 win over Susquehanna in game one of a doubleheader sweep Saturday. The win keeps his perfect record in tact. He scattered six hits over six innings to earn his seventh win of the season.
Cody Stoneback (Quakertown) struck out five over three scoreless innings and allowed only two hits in No. 21 Millersville’s 21-1 rout of University of the Sciences on Thursday.
Brandon Martinez (North Penn) was 2-for-4 with a double, two RBIs and one run scored in Kuztown’s 10-7 win over Lock Haven on Saturday. Reliever Bobby Reddick (North Penn) earned the win, allowing two hits and one run in three innings. Matt Matricardi (Upper Dublin) earned the one-out save. In Saturday’s 10-5 loss to Lock Haven, Clay Sebesky (Central Bucks East) delivered a pinch hit double to plate three runs in the fourth inning. He also had a two-run home run to finish the game 2-for-2 with a double, home run, five RBIs and one run scored. Martinez snagged his team-leading 12th stolen base on the year. In last Sunday’s 9-3 win over Mansfield, Martinez finished with a season-high four RBIs with two runs scored and two hits.
Joey Nieves-Markee (Bensalem) had two hits in each game of Cairn University’s doubleheader sweep at the hands of Centenary on Saturday. In Cairn’s 6-0 win over the University of Valley of Forge Tuesday, Nieves-Markee had two stolen bases.
Max German (Council Rock North) was 3-for-5 with two RBIs, two walks and three runs scored in Penn State Abington’s sweep of Gallaudet on Saturday (4-2, 10-2). In Tuesday’s 9-8 win over Messiah College, Greg Mugnier (Abington) earned his second win of the season as he pitched the final three innings. Pat Fitzgerald contributed an RBI single and scored a run while German was 2-for-3 with a double and two runs scored.
Andrew Check (Central Bucks West) was 4-for-5 with three RBIs in Eastern University’s 10-9 loss to Lebanon Valley on Wednesday.
Freshman Brad Humski (Hatboro-Horsham) and junior David Blount (Harry S Truman) both had a pair of hits in Gwynedd Mercy’s 7-3 win over Neumann in game one of a doubleheader sweep Saturday. In Gwynedd’s 4-3 win in game two, Chris Hens (Hatboro-Horsham) was 2-for-4 while Blount was 1-for-4 with two stolen bases. Freshman Jason Mulvey (Bensalem) scored a pair of runs. In last Sunday’s 13-7 win over Albright, Hens was 3-for-5 with a home run, three RBIs and three runs scored while Brett Kozlowski (William Tennent) was 3-for-5 with a double and four runs scored. Mulvey had a double, one RBI and scored two runs, and Shaughn Wright (Pennsbury) had a triple and run scored.
Anthony Rigous (Council Rock North) was 2-for-3 in IUP’s 7-2 win over Gannon in game one of a doubleheader sweep Saturday.
Redshirt sophomore Conner Crookham (Hatboro-Horsham) struck out the side in the seventh to earn his first career save in East Stoudsburg’s 5-3 win over Bloomsburg in the opening game of Saturday’s doubleheader. With the win, ESU clinched a spot in the PSAC Tournament for the fourth time in six years. In Friday’s 6-3 win over Bloomsburg in game one of a doubleheader sweep, Crookham had a pair of hits while Casey Saverio (Hatboro-Horsham) singled and scored a run. In Wednesday’s 11-0 win over Mercy, Crookham homered twice in his first action since April 4. He finished the game 3-for-5 with a double, two homers and three RBIs.
Jon Mullin (Central Bucks South) contributed a two-run single in Messiah College’s 10-4 win over Widener on Friday.
Ryan Pater (Central Bucks East) had three hits and scored three runs in St. Joe’s 14-3 win over Dayton on Sunday. In Friday’s 7-6 win over Dayton, Pater contributed a two-run single.
Ken McCormick (Pennsbury) was 2-for-4 in Philadelphia University’s 18-2 loss to Chestnut Hill on Tuesday.
Greg McDonough (Wissahickon) had a pair of hits in Widener’s 4-2 loss to Messiah College on Saturday. In Tuesday’s 14-12 win over Immaculata, McDonough had two hits and two RBIs in four at-bats. The sophomore added his 22nd stolen base of the year and a double. McDonough currently leads the team with 26 runs batted in and 12 doubles.
FIELD HOCKEY
Quinnipiac University junior Meghan McCullough (Plymouth Whitemarsh) earned the first annual Best Midfielder Player Award at the field hockey team’s annual awards banquet on April 17. An anchor on the defensive end as well as a key cornerstone in the team’s penalty corner offensive attack, McCullough started all 19 games in the 2014 season. Her statistical numbers all went up since the previous season as she registered new single-season career-highs in games played (19), goals (three), points (seven), shots (17) and shots on goal (10) while also picking up her first career game-winning goal, defensive save and penalty stroke goal. The PW grad racked up 1208 minutes of action, third most among the Bobcats’ non-defensive players. She finished with the fourth most points on the team.
MEN’S GOLF
Penn State Abington junior Mike Lam (Neshaminy) was named the NEAC Player of the Year award after finishing in first place overall with a two-day total of 149 at the NEAC Championships at Pennsauken Country Club. He trailed by three strokes heading into the final day but shot a 74 after shooting a 75 the preceding day. Anthony Giaquinto (Central Bucks South) finished in 17th place with a 170 while Sean Ailtmar (Central Bucks South) was tied for 20th with a 173. The Nittany Lions placed second overall behind Rutgers-Camden with a two-day total of 322-334=656 on the par 70 course.
Widener freshman Leonard Welch (Souderton) shot an 89 (+18) to tie for 31st after day one of the Commonwealth Championships at Hershey Country Club East on Saturday. In last Monday’s Widener Invite, Welch shot a 79 to help Widener to a second place finish at the Rolling Green Golf Club.
La Salle senior Greg Goodreds (Hatboro-Horsham) posted a score of 71 (+1) with a pair of birdies for a new college low last Monday at the Finegan Invitational. For the tournament, Goodreds finished tied for ninth with a 74-71=145 (+5). La Salle finished fifth as a team.
Junior Rodney Anders (Souderton) is part of Millersville’s golf team that earned its third consecutive trip to the NCAA Super Regional. The Marauders were awarded the No. 5 seed from the Atlantic Region and will compete for a trip to the NCAA Championship at the regional tournament, which is May 4-6 at Longaberger Golf Club in Nashport, Ohio. Anders finished in a tie for 40th at the Cecil C. Spadafora Invitational last Monday.
WOMEN’S GOLF
Middlebury College senior Jordan Glatt (Central Bucks East) shot 83-77 to place 10th at the Williams Spring Invitational played at Waubeeka Golf Links in Williamstown, MA. Middlebury finished third in the team standing in its final tournament of the season.
MEN’S LACROSSE
Senior Garret Rosiek (Wissahickon) contributed a goal and an assist and had three ground balls in Aurora University’s 15-9 win over Benedictine University on Thursday. With the win, the Spartans won their third straight MLC title.
Cabrini senior Patrick Nolan (Plymouth Whitemarsh), who is having the best year of his career, was named to the All-CSAC first team. This is the first all-conference honor for the PW grad. Nolan leads the club with 23 caused turnovers and has 20 ground balls. He recorded a career high five turnovers in wins over Centenary and Gwynedd Mercy.
Nolan and Anthony Greco (Abington) both had a pair of caused turnovers in No. 16 Cabrini’s 18-2 win over Centenary College in the semifinals of the Colonial States Athletic Conference tournament. Junior Chris Schneekloth (Central Bucks East) was 9-of-9 on face-offs. With its seventh straight win, Cabrini, which is 12-5 on the season, will make its 16th consecutive appearance in the conference championship game. As the tournament’s top seed, the Blue and White will host the title game next Saturday and face the winner of the Marywood/Gwynedd Mercy game. In Wednesday’s 20-4 win at Immaculata in the regular season finale, Schneekloth was 5-of-7 on face-offs with six ground balls.
WOMEN’S LACROSSE
Cortnee Daley (Hatboro-Horsham) had a goal and draw control in No. 11 Louisville’s 14-7 loss to No. 3 Duke in the opening round of the ACC Championship on Thursday.
Senior Macie Hauck (North Penn) scored three goals in Temple’s 16-3 road win at Cincinnati last Sunday.
Junior attacker Carley Kendall (Souderton) scored a career-high seven goals and tallied a career-best seven points in Washington College’s 20-11 road win over McDaniel on Saturday in its regular season finale. She also had three draw controls. In Wednesday’s 21-10 win over Swarthmore, Kendall had a pair of goals.
Kelly Hamilton (Central Bucks South) had a pair of goals in No. 2 Lock Haven’s 15-3 win over Slippery Rock on Saturday. With the win, the Lady Eagles claimed their fourth straight PSAC regular season title. In Tuesday’s 20-7 win over Shepherd, Hamilton led all scorers with seven goals. She had six of those goals in the first half. Melinda Wojt (Souderton) led the Lock Haven defensive unit with three caused turnovers.
Holy Family senior Caitlin Carrezola (Neshaminy) was named to the All-CACC first team while senior Kimber Kisselback (Neshaminy) earned second team honors. Carrezola helped the Holy Family defense limit conference opponents to only 65 goals in eight games this season, the lowest among CACC teams. In addition, the Tigers’ defense only allowed 8.13 goals per game during conference play and caused 66 turnovers. In 69 career games, Carrezola has compiled 98 ground balls and caused 29 turnovers, ranking in the top 10 in program history in both categories.
Kisselback earned second team honors for the second consecutive season. She also earned All-CACC first team honors in soccer this past fall, becoming the first student-athlete to receive All-CACC honors in multiple sports. Another key asset to the Tigers’ defense, Kisselback leads the team with a career-high 21 caused turnovers, which currently ranks fifth among the conference leaders. She has also totaled 36 ground balls and set career highs offensively with four goals, two assists and six points. Recently, Kisselback became the program’s all-time leader in caused turnovers. She currently has 53 in her four-year career. She also has totaled 111 career ground balls.
Stephanie Hogan (Central Bucks West) had a pair of goals in Eastern University’s 16-7 loss to regionally ranked FDU-Florham on Tuesday.
Senior Hannah Vogel (Hatboro-Horsham) scored a pair of goals and assisted on another in Millersville’s 15-8 loss to Bloomsburg on Saturday. In Wednesday’s 20-13 win over Shippensburg, Vogel set one school record and tied another. The senior tallied four goals and three assists, giving her 30 assists on the season and 60 in her career. Her 30th assist moved her into the top spot in the Millersville record books. Vogel also moved into a tie for first on the program’s career assist list.
Corey Pecuch (Council Rock North) recorded 10 saves in goal while Kate Schalck (William Tennent) tallied her seventh goal of the season in Penn State Abington’s 20-6 loss to Medaille College on Friday.
Madi Brunk (Cheltenham) scored three goals in No. 16 Messiah College’s 17-2 win over Arcadia on Saturday. Messiah will enter next week’s Commonwealth Tournament as the No. 1 seed. In Tuesday’s 20-8 win over Alvernia, Brunk had a pair of goals.
Allison Hawkins (Cheltenham) scored six goals and assisted in another and teammate Anna Studenmund (Springfield) added a hat trick and five draw controls in the University of Pittsburgh club team’s 21-14 win over Minnesota in the championship game of the WCLL Regional Tournament last Sunday. It is the team’s third consecutive WCLL title. Next up for the Lady Panthers is an invitation to the WCLA National Championships as Pitt looks to defend its 2014 National Championship.
Emily Hawkins (Cheltenham) scored a season high six goals and added an assist in Keystone College’s 20-7 loss to Lycoming College on Thursday.
Philadelphia University junior Liz Mower (Souderton) was named to the 2015 All-Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) first team. It is the third straight year the Souderton grad received first team honors. Mower is the conference’s second leading scorer with a team-high 75 points – six shy of her career high. She is third in the CACC with a career high 29 assists and has scored 46 goals to rank fourth. She is 11th in Division II in points. In CACC play, Mower had 30 goals and 14 assists – both are third. She also contributed 33 draw controls and 18 ground balls.
Mower had two goals and one assist in Philadelphia University’s 12-11 loss in sudden death overtime to Georgian Court in the semifinal of the CACC tournament. In Tuesday’s 20-11 opening round win over Dominican, Mower contributed five goals, two assists and four ground balls.
Junior goalkeeper Ally Frymoyer (Upper Merion) recorded 16 saves in Shippensburg’s 18-2 loss to No. 6 Mercyhurst in the season finale Saturday.
Freshman midfielder Chessie Rahmer (Souderton) scored a season high four goals in East Stroudsburg’s 16-6 loss to No. 15 West Chester on Saturday. Rahmer finished the season with 24 goals and two assists while sophomore attack Lauren Green (North Penn) had 31 goals and six assists.
SOFTBALL
Julie Wambold (Hatboro-Horsham) recorded her 100th career RBI with a three-run home run in Syracuse’s 14-9 win over Virginia in game two of Saturday’s doubleheader sweep. The home run gives her 102 RBIs in her career. In Tuesday’s 6-4 loss to Hofstra, Wambold was 2-for-4 with an RBI and run scored.
Senior Morgan Lewis (Council Rock North) had eight strikeouts and no walks while earning her 15th win in Susquehanna’s 5-1 win over Elizabethtown in game one of a doubleheader sweep Saturday. Susquehanna clinched the number one spot in the Landmark Conference Tournament for the fourth year in row. In Thursday’s 15-2 win over Gettysburg in game one of a twinbill sweep, Lewis earned the win, striking out eight and walking one. In Tuesday’s 2-1 win over Dickinson in game two of a doubleheader sweep, Lewis earned the win, fanning five and walking one. In last Sunday’s 4-3 win over DeSales in a doubleheader sweep, Lewis allowed three runs on eight hits with eight strikeouts and just two walks. In Susquehanna’s 14-2 win in game two, Lauren Creamer (Neshaminy) drove in three runs on three hits.
Senior Liz Parkins (Souderton) tossed a five-inning no hitter in Shippensburg’s 9-0 win over Mansfield in game one of a doubleheader sweep on Saturday. In Friday’s 3-2 win over Kutztown, Parkins tossed a complete game win, scattering two runs on four hits with five strikeouts. In Thursday’s doubleheader sweep of East Stroudsburg, Parkins earned the win in the Raiders’ 12-5 victory in game one, and in Shippensburg’s 5-4 win in game two, she was 3-for-5 with a walk, two RBIs and two runs.
Mackenzie Obert (Pennsbury) had an RBI double, and Erica Reis (Central Bucks East) had an RBI single in a three-run second inning in La Salle’s 10-2 win over George Mason on Sunday. In Saturday’s 4-3 win over George Mason in a doubleheader split, Suzanne Swanicke (Pennsbury) had four RBIs, one run scored and three hits. Christina Bascara (Pennsbury) scored two runs.
Brooke Labs (Pennridge) hit her 18th double of the season, a new Marywood record, in the Pacers’ doubleheader sweep of Rosemont on Friday. The Pennridge grad is currently ranked first in the country in doubles per game, and she broke the old record of 17 doubles in a single season set by Megan Haikes in 2006. In last Sunday’s 9-6 win over Keystone College in game two of a twinbill sweep, Labs was 2-for-4 with two doubles, one RBI and three runs scored. In Marywood’s 6-0 win in game one, Labs was 1-for-2 with an RBI and run scored.
Maggie Shaffer (Hatboro-Horsham) struck out one and walked one in a complete game win in Guilford’s 5-4 win over Randolph College on Friday.
Dominique Pinto (Council Rock North) had a run-scoring double in the University of Connecticut’s 15-3 loss to East Carolina on Saturday.
Junior Haileigh Stocks (Central Bucks South) was 2-for-2 with a pair of doubles and a run scored in Robert Morris University’s 11-3 loss in five innings to Kent State on Wednesday. The CB South grad, who posted two doubles in a game for the first time in her career, raised her season total for two-baggers to seven and her career mark to 24, moving into eighth place in Colonial history.
Morgan Decker (Central Bucks South) was 1-for-3 with two RBIs in Lehigh’s 3-0 win over Army on Sunday. In Saturday’s 8-1 win over Army in game two of a twinbill split, Decker as 2-for-2 with a double, RBI and run scored. In Wednesday’s 7-1 win over Villanova, Decker was 2-for-2 with a double, home run, three RBIs and two runs scored. The CB South grad had the first run batted in and the first home run in the long-awaited opening of Leadership Park on the campus of Lehigh University.
Nikki Alden (William Tennent) was 2-for-4 in St. Joe’s 6-5 loss to Saint Louis on Sunday. In last Sunday’s 4-0 loss at Fordham, Alden had two of her team’s four hits.
D’Anna Devine (Pennsbury) contributed an RBI and scored a run in USF’s 8-2 win over Memphis in game one of a doubleheader split on Saturday. In USF’s 4-3 loss in game two, Devine contributed a two-out RBI double.
Bridget Casey (Pennridge) and Emily Mayhew (Pennridge) both had a pair of hits in Bloomsburg’s 15-1 win over Mansfield on Sunday.
Allison Herbert (Hatboro-Horsham) picked up the save by getting the final out of King’s 6-5 win over FDU-Florham in game one of a doubleheader sweep Saturday. In last Sunday’s 9-1 win over Manhattanville, Herbert earned the win in the circle, allowing just three hits while striking out three in the five-inning contest.
Kelly Hendrickson (William Tennent) drove in the winning run in the bottom of the seventh in Cairn University’s 4-3 win over Centenary College on Saturday, delivering a two-run single. She also earned the win on the mound, allowing seven hits and three runs (two earned) in seven innings. In Tuesday’s 8-3 win in game one of a doubleheader sweep of Notre Dame of Maryland, Hendrickson was 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a run scored. She also earned the complete game win, allowing six hits and three runs. In Cairn’s 4-2 win in game two, Hendrickson earned the win in the circle, allowing three hits and two runs (unearned) while walking one and striking out six. In last Saturday’s 5-4 win over Rosemont in game one of a doubleheader sweep, Hendrickson earned the win, allowing eight hits and four runs (two earned). In Cairn’s 8-5 win in game two, Tiffany Gower (North Penn) earned the win, allowing six hits and five runs (four earned). Hendrickson was 1-for-3 with an RBI and two runs scored.
Sophomore shortstop Rae Holden (Abington) was 2-for-3 with two doubles, one RBI and one run scored in East Stroudsburg’s 4-1 win over Bloomsburg in game one of a doubleheader sweep Saturday. With the wins, ESU earned a spot in the PSAC Tournament for the first time since 2010.
Alison Vavala (Central Bucks East) was 3-for-6 with two doubles, two runs scored and an RBI in West Chester’s doubleheader sweep of Kutztown on Saturday. In West Chester’s 7-2 win in game two, Sarah Derstine (Souderton) was 3-for-4 with a triple, home run, four RBIs and two runs scored. In Friday’s 4-0 win over Lock Haven in game one of a doubleheader sweep, Erin Quense (Neshaminy) was 2-for-4. In West Chester’s 6-2 win in game two, Lauren Altenburger (Neshaminy) was 2-for-4, Derstine was 2-for-4 with an RBI and two runs, and Quense hit her fifth home run of the season.
Emily Hofmann (Pennridge) tossed a one-two-three sixth inning in IUP’s 12-4 win over Pitt-Johnstown on Friday.
Whitney DeLagol (William Tennent) was 2-for-3 with an RBI and run scored in Penn State Abington’s 8-3 win over Wilson College on Saturday. Nicole Battaglio (Upper Merion) had one hit and two RBIs while Danielle Jones (Harry S Truman) hit a solo home run and also scored a pair of runs. Emily Wrenn (Hatboro-Horsham) picked up her sixth win of the season, allowing five hits and three runs while fanning three. In Thursday’s 11-2 win in five innings, Jennifer Rakita (Neshaminy) picked up her fourth win, scattering seven hits. In last Sunday’s 9-7 win over Franklin & Marshall, DeLagol was 2-for-4 with a double, RBI and run scored while Jones was 2-for-2 with a run scored. Bianca Monterosso (Abington) recorded an RBI.
Heather Lutz (Hatboro-Horsham) was 2-for-3 with a double and run scored in Millersville’s 3-2 win over Lock Haven in Saturday’s doubleheader split. In Millersville’s 8-3 loss in game two, Lutz also was 2-for-3 with a double and run scored. Danielle DiFilippo (Hatboro-Horsham) was 1-for-3. In Friday’s 7-4 win over Bloomsburg in a doubleheader split, Lutz was 1-for-2 with one RBI and one run scored while DiFilippo contributed a double, RBI and run scored. Stephanie Kulp (North Penn) also doubled. In Millersville’s 11-4 loss in game one, Gabbie Berry (Norristown) was 2-for-3 with a run scored.
Junior MaryKate Ballerino (Hatboro-Horsham) was 3-for-4 with two triples and a home run in Gwynedd Mercy’s 8-7 win over Cedar Crest in Saturday’s doubleheader split. She drove in five runs, tying a career high. In Gwynedd’s 8-7 loss in game two, Jessica Mower (North Penn) finished with a season-high three hits, including a double. She also had two RBIs and a run scored. Ballerino was 2-for-3 with two runs scored, and Nikki Canfield (Souderton) was 2-for-4 with two RBIs. In Friday’s 9-1 loss to Immaculata, Canfield had a pair of hits, including a double. In Thursday’s 10-3 loss to Catholic University, Amanda Hesson (Neshaminy) was 2-for-3 with a run scored. In Gwynedd’s 6-3 loss to Catholic in the nightcap, Canfield and Ballerino were each 1-for-2 with a run scored.
Sophomore Ally Horvath (Central Bucks South) was 3-for-4 with a home run, RBI and three runs scored in Widener’s 12-11 win in game one of a twinbill sweep of Penn State Brandywine on Thursday. In Widener’s 2-1 win in the nightcap, Horvath earned the win in the circle, allowing six hits and one run while walking two and fanning a career-high eight. At the plate, she was 2-for-2 with a double and RBI.
Mollie Burrell (Souderton) was 1-for-2 in Philadelphia University’s 2-1 win over Concordia on Saturday. In last Sunday’s 5-1 win over Felician, Erin Maher (North Penn) was 1-for-2 with a run scored.
MEN’S TENNIS
Penn State Abington freshman Mohammed Ammouni (Bensalem) was honored as the NEAC Player of the Year and NEAC Rookie of the Year. The Bensalem grad finished the season with a 6-4 record in singles play for the regular season. Ammouni and teammate Justin McNab (Cheltenham) both earned first team honors.
In Thursday’s 5-0 win over Penn State Berks in the NAC West title match, Ammouni was part of a doubles team that earned an 8-1 win while McNab’s double team notched an 8-6 win for the Nittany Lions.
WOMEN’S TENNIS
Penn State Abington freshman Amanda Shulski (Neshaminy) was part of the second doubles team that earned an 8-6 win in the Nittany Lions’ 5-3 loss to Penn State Berks in the NEAC West Finals on Saturday. The Nittany Lions finished their season 15-2, which marks a program record. In Friday’s 5-0 semifinal win over Keuka, Shulski and her partner earned an 8-6 win.
MEN’S TRACK & FIELD
Drew Magaha (Upper Moreland) was part of the University of Penn’s distance medley relay that finished 12th in the Championship of America at the 121st Penn Relays with a time of 9:53.81 on Friday. Penn topped both Texas and Texas A&M in the event.
St. Joseph’s University senior long sprinter Matthew McGarvey (Central Bucks West) earned Most Dedicated Honors at the 2014-15 banquet held last Sunday evening.
McGarvey was part of St. Joe’s sprint medley relay that raced the Championship of America Invitational portion of the program at the Penn Relays on Saturday. The team finished in 3:27.85, good for 15th out of 35 squads.
St. Joe’s senior Matt Sutorius (Central Bucks West) placed eighth in the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:00.16 at the Lehigh Games on Saturday.
Sophomore Ben Keliojor (Norristown) was part of Gwynedd Mercy’s 4×100 relay team that posted a time of 43.36 and finished 10th overall at the 11th annual Paul Kaiser Classic at Shippensburg University on Saturday. Freshman Byron Coleman (Plymouth Whitemarsh) was 10th in the long jump with a jump of 6.17m.
Widener senior Jason Caporale (Neshaminy) finished the 1500m run in 4:03.86 to capture third place at a mid-week meet at Haverford College on Tuesday.
Kutztown’s Brandon Raguz (Central Bucks South) finished second in the pole vault with a PSAC-existing and season-best 4.60m (15-1) at Shippensburg’s Paul Kaiser Classic on Saturday. Ron Smith (Neshaminy) was part of the fifth place 4×100 relay that posted a time of 42.76 as well as the 4×400 relay that finished second with a time of 3:21.17. He finished 27th in the 200m with a time of 23.01. Jhaloni Johnson (Springfield) was 22nd in the 100m (11.46) and 20th in the 200m (22.85).
West Chester sophomore Chris Stancil (Bensalem) finished first in the 400m dash with a time of 51.51 at the WCU Open on Friday. Ben Licona (Souderton) earned a seventh place finish in the shot put.
East Stoudsburg junior Eric Conard (Souderton) finished 10th in the javelin with a throw of 171-7 at the Lehigh University games on Saturday. He finished 20th in discus with a throw of 117-8.

Tiffany Burrows (Quakertown) was part of Messiah College’s 4×400 relay team that posted a time of 4:09.36 on Thursday at the Penn Relays to finish sixth in the race pitting the Centennial and MAC. On Saturday at the Paul Kaiser Classic at Shippensburg, Burrows finished 15th in the 200m dash with a time of 27.06. She also was part of the 4×100 relay team that finished seventh with a time of 51.52. Natalie Ross (Souderton) finished eighth in the 3000m run with a time of 11:09.40.
Freshman Lindsay Sheehan (Pennridge) was part of Shippensburg’s first place 4×100 relay team that posted a time of 47.81 on Saturday at the 11th Annual Paul Kaiser Track & Field Classic hosted by Shippensburg. She also was part of the winning 4×400 relay that posted a time of 3:58.45 and finished third in the 200m dash with a time of 25.87. Carolyn Meier (Upper Dublin) was seventh in the 800m run with a time of 2:20.89.
Temple sophomore Sydnee Jacques (North Penn) placed 40th in the triple jump with a distance of 11.20m at the Penn Relays on Friday.
Freshmen Emily Makara (Council Rock South) and Brittany Finn (Upper Moreland and senior Kaitlin Iffrig (Pennsbury) were part of Gwynedd Mercy’s 4x800m relay that finished third with a time of 10:27.83 at the 11th Annual Paul Kaiser Classic at Shippensburg University on Saturday. Junior Zakiyyah Richardson (Pennsbury) finished sixth in the 100m dash with a time of 12.87. Senior AnaLee Rodriguez (Pennsbury) finished 25th out of 52 athletes in the discus with a season-best mark of 29.47 meters. This is her second best throw as a Griffin.
Freshman Casie Cronk (Quakertown) was part of Moravian College’s 4×400 relay team that finished third in the Centennial/MAC race in a season-best and ECAC qualifying time of 4:01.69 at the Penn Relays on Thursday. The time was the 10th best time in school history.
Moravian sophomore Lauren Suelki (Quakertown) finished ninth in the triple jump with a jump of 9.73 meters (31-11.25) at the Lehigh University games on Saturday. She placed eighth in the long jump with a leap of 4.94 meters (16-2.5). Freshman Beth Ann Davies (Quakertown) took 10th in the pole vault with a vault of 2.75 meters (9-0.25).
Widener senior Amber Char (William Tennent) was named MAC Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week for the week ending April 19. The Tennent grad won the pole vault at the Widener University Invitational. Her mark of 3.42 meters (11-2.5) tied her season best in the event. Char currently ranks second in the pole vault in the MAC.
Widener freshman Allison Gallagher (Souderton) finished in first place in the 100m hurdles in a MAC qualifying time of 16.51 seconds at a mid-week meet at Haverford College on Tuesday.
Kutztown’s Anecia Alexaki (Upper Merion) finished eighth in pole vault with a PSAC-existing and season best 5.58 (18-3.50) at Shippensburg University’s Paul Kaiser Classic on Saturday. Olivia Dettore (Central Bucks West) finished 13th in the 5000m with a time of 19:28.86.
West Chester sophomore Jill Sarm (North Penn) was the runner-up in the 400m dash with a time of 1:03.43 at
the WCU Open on Friday. Christine Johnson (North Penn) finished first in the discus throw, launching the weight 35.08 meters.
Posting new PSAC qualifying times at the Maroon and Gold Invitational on Saturday were Bloomsburg’s Keelan McDonald (Central Bucks West) in the 1500-meter run with a time of 4:57, while in the steeplechase Jessica Quesenberry (Wissahickon) won the event with a PSAC qualifying time of 12:04.13.
East Stroudsburg sophomore Alexis Bell (Norristown) finished fifth in the 200m dash with a time of 12.94 at the Lehigh University games on Saturday. She finished sixth in the 100m dash with a time of 26.77 Kelly Anne Stuetz (Cheltenham) finished in a tie for seven in the high jump (5-1) and was eighth in the 100m hurdles (16.06) .
