HATBORO-HORSHAM 20, UPPER MORELAND 13
In a battle of neighboring rivals, the visiting Hatters pulled off a stunner, upsetting a Golden Bear squad that brought a 3-0 record into Thursday’s SOL opener.
The Hatters struck first, getting on the scoreboard when quarterback Casey Walsh found Calvin Broaddus with an 11-yard TD pass. They took that 6-0 lead into the second quarter when they upped their advantage to 13-0 after Walsh punched it in from two yards out. The Hatters’ lead grew to 20-0 after a 40-yard TD run from Walsh.
Upper Moreland got on the scoreboard late in the second quarter, thanks to a Rodney Morgan nine-yard run, and it was a 20-6 game at the intermission. A Morgan interception prevented the Hatters from increasing their lead, and the Golden Bears made it a one-touchdown game when Casey Decker scored on a two-yard quarterback keeper, trimming the Hatters lead to 20-13 after three quarters.
The Hatters’ defense held the rest of the way, and their first win was in the books.
Hatboro-Horsham (1-3, 1-0 SOL) will host Upper Merion next Friday, and Upper Moreland (3-1, 0-1 SOL) will host Cheltenham.

SPRINGFIELD TOWNSHIP 34, WISSAHICKON 20
The Spartans made history on Thursday night, defeating Wissahickon for the first time in 25 years.
Justin Hill accounted for more than 300 yards of total offense and had a hand in all five touchdowns in a contest that saw the Spartans explode for 20 fourth quarter points. The fourth quarter outburst – ignited by Hill – put some distance between the Spartans and Trojans, who found themselves locked in a tightly contested game for three quarters.
The game started out on a promising note for the Trojans, who turned a Spartan fumble into a touchdown when Mike Schoenleber took it in from 18 yards out, but a 50-yard Justin Hill touchdown run knotted the score 7-7 late in the quarter.
Mason Menhardt connected on a pair of field goals in the second quarter, sending the Trojans into halftime with a 13-7 lead.
Late in the third quarter, the Spartans went back on top (14-13) when Hill scored from three yards out after a Trojan fumble. They took that lead into the fourth quarter and upped their advantage to 21-13 when Hill scored his third touchdown of the game – this one from one yard out.
Hill hooked up with George Baughan for a 27-yard touchdown pass, putting the Spartans on top 28-13. The Trojans gamely battled back with Mike Marino finding Antuan Lloyd for a touchdown that made it a 28-20 game. Hill had an answer, taking it in from 52 yards out for the 34-20 final.
Hill finished the night with 217 yards rushing and 115 yards passing to go along with his five TDs.
Springfield (2-1, 1-0 SOL) will travel to Upper Dublin next Friday while Wissahickon (1-3, 0-1) will host Plymouth Whitemarsh.

The Colonials opened up a 21-0 lead after Nyfease Nasir took it in from 67 yards out, but the Vikings staged a rally to close out the opening half. They got on the scoreboard when quarterback Jarrett Quinn found teammate Isaiah Graham-Mosley with a touchdown pass, and the Vikings made good on the two-point conversion to trim PW’s lead to 21-8.
Another Nasir touchdown run – this one from 41 yards out – put the Colonials on top 28-8, but when the Vikings turned a fumble recovery into a touchdown in the closing seconds, they made it a 28-14 game at the intermission. That score held until the fourth quarter when the Colonials tacked on a pair of touchdowns.
