CENTRAL BUCKS EAST 3, CENTRAL BUCKS WEST
Mike Gorni called Thursday’s win over archrival CB West a “character win.”
By any name, it was a huge win on a night that saw starting keeper Austin Prime –with five shutouts already to his credit this season – exit the game early in the first half after a collision left him bleeding and in need of stitches.
“Austin is our lifeblood in terms of our most important leader in the back,” Gorni said. “He’s just a positive influence on this team this year.
“I can’t tell you how much it hurt to see him go down. It hurt the team, it hurt us as coaches.”
In the most intense of all games, back-up goalie Karl Bandlow answered the call and delivered.
“This was a really big moment coming in,” Bandlow said. “It’s 0-0 in our biggest game of the season.
“Our coach was telling us – if we lose this game, we’ll all be level, everything we’ve worked for. I just went out there knowing I can handle the situation. I have a great defense – Will (Eisold) is a great center back.
“I was so excited. I wanted to be in there this entire season. All I’ve been begging for is a chance, and now I have it.”
Bandlow delivered a clutch save on a breakaway early in the second half to keep the scoreless tie intact, and 25 minutes into the half, it was J.R. Eisold turning Ian Lutz’s throw-in into a goal that turned out to be the game winner.
“It’s great – -you can’t imagine anything better,” Eisold said of an atmosphere that was electric. “And scoring a goal like that in front of all your fans and friends – you can’t replace that. It’s awesome.
“We work hard on our set pieces. In a lot of big games, that’s the deciding factor. I had a magic moment I guess, and I put it away. I think that goal was vital – it let everyone know we’re in this. We have a lead, so we have to keep it.”
Six minutes later, the Patriots tacked on an insurance goal when Evan Vare (Justin Chomik assist) found the back of the net. For good measure, Brian Gilligan tacked on a goal with 38 seconds remaining.
“We had two opportunities in the first three minutes and we didn’t get them,” Gorni said. “When Austin went down, I thought West had the better part of the of play the last 20 minutes in the first half.
“In the second half, we got to address a couple of things and had to play a little bit more simply. Chomik served a brilliant ball that Evan finished on the corner. Ian (Lutz) with a throw-in – J.R. has been having a little bit of a difficult time. He’s been getting to a lot and just missing, so that was a really nice goal for him to get as well. The finish by Gilligan – he just turned two people inside out and has that subtle ability to put the ball in. That’s as clever a goal as you’re going to see.”
Central Bucks East (8-0, 6-0 SOL), which now owns a six-point lead in the conference standings, will travel to Coughlin on Saturday for a non-league game. Central Bucks West (6-2, 4-2) will be on the road at Great Valley on Saturday.

Joe LaRoache scored with 6.2 seconds remaining in the first half, and that goal stood the rest of the way as the Hatters held on for the hard fought win. Eduardo Romero assisted on the game winner.
“That definitely gave us a boost going into halftime,” coach Kyle McGrath said of LaRoache’s goal. “We were able to shut down their forwards with our strong play from our back four.
“Our center midfielders – Colin Bateman and Chandler Ryan – did a very good job against the two talented players from Pennridge.”
Stephen Doney recorded five saves in goal to earn his fourth shutout of the season.
Hatboro-Horsham (5-4, 3-3 SOL) will travel to North Penn on Tuesday, and Pennridge (2-5, 1-5) will host Quakertown on Tuesday.

The visiting Rams exploded for four first-half goals on their way to the convincing conference win Thursday night.

A goal by Rachel Velez (Dani Meenan assist) put the Rams on top 3-0 27 minutes into the contest, and when Kennedy Peace score with two minutes remaining in the half, the Rams led 4-0.

ABINGTON 7, CHELTENHAM 2
In a non-league battle of neighboring rivals, it was the Ghosts who had the upper hand.
Madeline Doyle led a balanced Abington attack with two goals. Camryn Lexow, Kathryn Gerhard, Sophia Carabba, Kailey Horton and Isabelle Bautista each added single goals. The Ghosts might have had more had it not been for the strong play of Cheltenham’s keeper, who – according to coach Rick Tompkins – collected several brilliant saves.
For the Lady Panthers, Dana Shelton and Carly Waldman each scored a goal.
Abington (4-2-1, 2-2-1 SOL) will host Council Rock North on Monday, and Cheltenham (3-4, 2-3) will travel to Wissahickon on Tuesday.
WILLIAM TENNENT 3, QUAKERTOWN 0
Quakertown had an 18-8 edge in shots, but that advantage was negated by Tennent goalie Lauriel Krouse, who was credited with eight clutch saves.
Emily Wasserleben scored the only goal the visiting Panthers would need when she connected late in the first half to send Tennent into halftime with a 1-0 lead.
Second half goals by Brianna Broccardi and Nicole Reh iced the win for the visitors.
William Tennent (5-2-1, 3-1-1 SOL) will travel to Bensalem on Friday, and Quakertown (2-5, 1-4) will be on the road at Central Bucks South.

UPPER MORELAND 2, HARRY S TRUMAN 0
Sydney Bachmayer scored a pair of second half goals to propel the visiting Golden Bears to the non-league win. Bachmayer broke a scoreless tie 22 minutes into the second half with an assist from Christina Kane. Her second goal – 15 minutes later – also was assisted by Kane.
“As a team, the Bears moved the ball and found the open girl,” coach Lisa Benvenuto said. “(We) played simple and were able to maintain possession of the ball and control the tempo of the game.”
The Bears held a 9-2 advantage in shots in the first half, but couldn’t find the back of the net.
“In the second half, (we) controlled the ball setting up the attack,” Benvenuto said. “The forward line of Brianna Byard, Christina Kane and Sydney Bachmayer played tremendously.
“They had combinations throughout the offensive third and were able to connect and finish two opportunities. Kane’s field vision and Bachmayer’s finishing were spot on today.”
The Bears’ coach went on to acknowledge the strong defensive play of Madison Pisut.
“Madison had a strong game in the midfield and marked and contained Truman’s most dangerous player, Amanda McElhare,” Benvenuto said.
Kim Benge had two saves in goal to record her third shutout.
Upper Moreland (4-4, 3-3 SOL) will host Upper Merion on Tuesday, and Truman (0-8, 0-5) will travel to Neshaminy Friday.
