The Colonials received monster performances from Taylor O’Brien (23 points, five rebounds, five assists and five steals) and Lauren Coscia (23 points, 15 rebounds) in Tuesday’s win over the Owls in an opening round game of the Colonials Holiday Tournament.
O’Brien, who has been coming up big for PW all season, scored all of her points in the final three quarters. Coscia, meanwhile, turned in a career-performance.
“Lauren’s a 6-2 junior, and this is her first year of being a starter on varsity,” PW coach Daniel Dougherty said. “It was a real breakout game for her and finishing – she was 10-for-13 from the floor. She was huge for us tonight. She really carried the load in the first quarter and third quarter.”
The Colonials led 10-8 after one quarter and took a 22-14 lead into halftime. Any doubts about the outcome were put the rest in a third quarter that saw the Colonials go on a 24-10 tear. They outscored the Owls 43-22 after the intermission.
“We got in early foul trouble, and we kind of mixed up our defenses in the second quarter,” Dougherty said. “We exploded in the third quarter. A lot of that was Lauren Coscia.”

The Ghosts rebounded from a disappointing showing one night earlier in their loss to Gloucester Catholic (53-32) to defeat a solid Holy Cross squad in Tuesday’s consolation game of the O’Hara Holiday Tournament.
The game didn’t start out on a promising note when the Ghosts fell behind 17-10 after one quarter, but they followed that with a dazzling 21-6 second quarter burst to go into halftime with a 31-23 lead. The Ghosts increased that lead to 47-34 after three quarters on their way to the impressive win.
“I told them – seventeen points is too much, and they had to start defending,” coach Dan Marsh said. “In the second quarter, we held them to six points and kind of took control.
“We were up by as much as 18. They came back in the third quarter and hit some threes, but it was a much better team effort.”
Three Abington players finished the game in double figures. Lizzie O’Leary led the way with 19 points, 12 rebounds and three blocked shots. Sam Brusha added 13 points, and Britney James had 12 points and six assists. Sammy Lochner added seven points.
“It was just a much better effort defensively,” Marsh said. “Lizzie’s been sick, and she really battled tonight. She played really well.
“Sam Lochner has been our steady, consistent kid, running the team well. We played better. We played up to our potential. The team we played today is as good as anybody in our league, and it’s like – here we go. It’s up and down and up and down. Even today was up and down. We only have one loss to teams in Pennsylvania. We’re okay with that, I guess.”

Binghamton-bound Karlee Krchnavi led the Pirates’ first quarter tear, scoring seven of her 14 points while also blocking a pair of shots and collecting two steals. Sophomore Kayla Reed added six of her 14 points in the frame.
“We wanted to do the best we could to limit number 20,” Tennent coach Paul Veltre said of Krchnavi. “We knew that she going to score – the question was how many.
“They were very strong tonight. They had multiple shots in the lane. We could not contain penetration. Fundamentally, we were not good tonight.”
A focus for the Pirates was containing Kyla Gibson, who scored 24 points in Monday’s opening round win, and Kelly Scipione, who added 13. The duo combined for 11 points in Tuesday’s game with Gibson scoring a team high six.
