Upper Dublin opened SOL play with an impressive win. Check out all the results for SOL baseball teams in action Tuesday.
UPPER DUBLIN 2, WISSAHICKON 1
In a riveting battle between last year’s conference co-champions, it was the Flying Cardinals – behind the four-hit effort of senior Cole Swiger – edging the Trojans in Tuesday’s SOL opener.
Swiger and Trojan ace Logan Willans were locked in a classic pitcher’s duel as neither team got on the scoreboard until the sixth when Swiger helped his own cause with an RBI double to put the visitors on top 1-0. The Trojans got that run back in the bottom of the sixth, thanks to Alex Tappen’s RBI single. The Cards pushed a run across in the seventh, and this time the Trojans had no answer.
Swiger fanned three and walked three in the complete game win. Willans – who had his team’s only extra base hit with a double – allowed five hits and one earned run, striking out seven and walking just one.
Upper Dublin’s JT Breslin turned in the only multi-hit performance, finishing the day 2-for-3 with an RBI.
Upper Dublin (1-0 SOL) will host Norristown on Thursday, and Wissahickon (0-2, 1-1) will host William Penn Charter in a non-league game on Wednesday before traveling to Springfield on Thursday.
