PENNRIDGE 13, UPPER DUBLIN 12 (OT)
The Lady Rams continue to show a flare for the dramatic, using a free position goal by Jennifer Rodzewich at the 1:59 mark of overtime to earn an exhilarating come-from-behind win over the visiting Cardinals. Friday’s overtime win came on the heels of an OT thriller against Southern Lehigh 24 hours earlier.
“I was looking to Maddie (Dachowski), who scored the winning goal last night,” coach Karen Schnurr said of her team’s game plan heading into OT. “She got double teamed, and we got a turnover.
“Jennifer Rodzewich played some awesome defense. She caused a turnover, got the ball, went down, got an eight-meter shot and made it.”
Friday’s win seemed unlikely at best when the Lady Cardinals – thanks to a 7-1 tear – took an 8-3 lead into halftime, but the Rams had a run of their own in the second half, rallying to knot the score 10-10. The two teams were still deadlocked 12-12 at the end of regulation, setting stage for the fantastic finish.
“The first half we didn’t stick to the plan,” Schnurr said. “We were all trying to be heroes, and I think it was the high from yesterday.
“At halftime, I said, ‘Look, we’re in a hole again. We have to dig ourselves out one goal at a time.’ They started working together. It’s beautiful to watch them work together because they get so fired up and they’re so passionate about it.
“I put some freshmen down on defense, and they had stellar performances towards the end. We held them for like two minutes on defense.”
Grace Loughery turned in a glittering all-around effort to lead the Lady Rams, finishing with six goals, one assist, four caused turnovers and six draw controls. Rodzewich also had a big game with one goal, three assists, four caused turnovers and six draw controls. Dachowski had a hat trick, and Casey Hefner added two goals and one assist. Emily Price had one goal and one assist, and Kate Ziegler added an assist.
For the Flying Cardinals, Hannah Reape (three goals, two assists) and Jess Grodsky (three goals, one assist) led a balanced attack. Lindsey Schreiber added two goals, and Caroline Wall contributed two goals, five ground balls and two draw controls. Maddie Templeton had one goal and two assists, and Elizabeth Barber added a goal and an assist. Demi Balasa was credited with four caused turnovers and one ground ball.
UD’s Sarah Herchenroder had five saves in goal to go along with two ground balls.
Pennridge (3-0) will be on the road at Council Rock North on Tuesday for its SOL opener, and Upper Dublin (1-1) will travel to Central Bucks East on Wednesday.

PLYMOUTH WHITEMARSH 18, HAVERFORD 17
The Colonials capped a memorable week with a nail biter, eking out a one-goal win over the Fords. The two teams were deadlocked 9-9 at halftime and not a whole lot changed in the second half.
“It went back and forth with each team being up and then the other team would score to tie,” coach Ellen Reilly said. “We played three tough teams, and not only is it physically (draining), it’s emotionally draining as well.
“I think they were tired, but here’s the good thing – they worked hard, and they pulled out the win.”
Sophomore Ali Diamond stepped to the fore on attack, leading the Colonials with six goals and two assists. Monica Dresnin and Sophie Kolkka both had three goals and three assists. Lilly Hanlon also collected a hat trick while Aurora Mills had a pair of goals, and Maddie Berman added a single goal.
“I had a ninth grader (Hanlon) step up and score three goals today because they were face guarding Monica for a while,” Reilly said. “Ali Diamond, my sophomore, stepped up, and the same thing with Sophie Kolkka.
“The whole team really hustled. We were up two or three goals, and Haverford would come back. We would go up again, and Haverford would come back. We would just keep hustling.”
Both Meg Ely and Alexa Augustine saw action in goal, and both had five saves.
Plymouth Whitemarsh (3-0) will be on the road at Methacton on Monday for a non-league contest.
