Check out the results for SOL boys’ lacrosse teams in action Thursday.
Hatboro-Horsham 9, Central Bucks West 8
In the final seconds of regulation, Owen Winters charged for the cage on his own, eventually putting a shot past the Central Bucks West goalie to help the Hatters to a one-goal victory at Central Bucks West's War Memorial Stadium.
The win helped the Hatters to finish all alone in third place in the Continental Conference, also giving Hatboro-Horsham some momentum heading into the playoffs.
"We were on the road, we came from behind and we helped our momentum," Hatboro-Horsham coach John Kurek said. "We lost a tough one last night to North Penn (13-11) and the kids were down a bit, but they knew they had to get up for this one. The seniors rallied the troops and told them they needed a nice win going into the playoffs, so this was a good win for them."
The two teams went into the half tied 5-5, and the second half was a one-goal, back and forth game until Winters put home the game-winner with just 7.2 seconds remaining on the clock.
"We had a play set up in the first 30 seconds, but CB West played good defense," Kurek said. "The ball just came back to Owen (Winters) and he took it to the cage and scored. It was a one-person dodge who got it in there."
Winters led the way with four goals and one assist, while fellow senior Pierre Armstrong scored twice and assisted on three goals.
"Owen did a great job, but it was both him and his teammate, Pierre (Armstrong)," Kurek said. "They both do a good job of facilitating and they really kept the offense moving."
Bryan Remailey and Joe Larouche each scored once for the Hatters, while Dan Jaminson stopped seven shots in net to earn the win.
"It was a difficult (regular) season for our kids," Kurek said. "There were a lot of growing pains, youth on the defensive end and some troubles, but they grew as the season went along. They're learning and getting better each and every week. We'll now see who we get in District playoffs, and we'll get ready for them and give them a run on Tuesday."
The Hatters finished the regular season 10-8 overall and 8-4 in conference play. The Bucks finished the season 12-6 and 7-5, respectively.
