As the regular season begins to wind down, the intensity tends to ramp up.

Guilianna Conetta (assist Anna Horn) netted what would hold up as the game-winning goal for the Hawks.

Council Rock South coach Nick Heim: “We hopped back into league play at home against a dangerous Pennsbury team. I thought we got off to a good start, executed what we wanted to do, generating chances early on.
“We were able to get on the board early when Kait Hickey found Lylah Day, who had a difficult finish close in. Minutes later, we doubled our lead on a great ball from Anna Horn, who found Guilianna Conetta, who had a tidy finish. Pennsbury clawed one back to make it 2-1 before the half.
“We continued to generate chances, hit the post, and were on the unfortunate end of some excellent goaltending to keep the score at 2-1.”
—Props: “Second half of league play is never easy, and Pennsbury made us earn every bit today. Kudos to that group for the physicality and energy. I thought Horn was excellent today, as was Ruby Bross in the midfield. Day was dangerous throughout the game.”
Up next: South will host Parkland on Saturday.

Council Rock North 8, Harry S Truman 0
Council Rock North was able to spread the wealth on Thursday.
Seven different players scored, and a number of younger players were able to log critical playing time in the Indians’ 8-0 victory over Harry S Truman. The Tigers, coming off a big win in their previous game, were looking to build on the momentum, but North took the lead early and had built a 4-0 lead at halftime.
Sam Geib scored two goals to lead North.
Lily Muldoon and Zuzanna Symciewicz each scored their first varsity goals in the win.
On the other side of the field, Maddie Lear recorded the shutout.

Council Rock North coach Gavin Flannigan: “A nice win today. We were able to spread our minutes around and were happy with the play from everyone.”
—Props: “Maddie Lear got the shutout today. I was happy to see Lily Muldoon and Zuzanna (Symciewicz) score their first varsity goals and also see Reese Terry and Ellen Lowther get their first varsity minutes.”
Harry S Truman coach Brian Gilbert: “Coming off a big win, we hoped to take some momentum into this game, but it just wasn’t our day, and we seemed a bit out of sync. Our defense was a bit depleted, finding out just before the game we would be without junior co-captain Isabella Romer. In the previous game, she got cleated on her foot, but still played a full 80-minute game despite the pain. Today, her foot was still completely swollen and bruised and of course she wanted to go, but medically we had to shut her down. Seniors Monica Almanza and Julianna Romer along with freshmen Payton Morris and Jaedyn Olds gave us much-needed minutes on defense.”
—Best efforts and near misses: “Despite being down, the girls fought hard the entire game and didn’t quit. They generated multiple scoring chances late in the game, however, we could not get the shots to fall. Ella Goldey provided a lot of energy up front and had what might have been our only shot on goal. Isabella Guijosa came in late in the game and made the most of her minutes and nearly had an assist after chipping a ball over the defenders, but the ball took a weird bounce and our attacker just couldn’t get the ball to settle to get a quality shot off. It was just that type of day. The team will look to rebound when they return home for their Senior Appreciation Night next week.”

Colonial Division
Central Bucks East 4, North Penn 1
North Penn didn’t make it easy. But Central Bucks East battled, found its footing, and put in a pair of goals in each half to earn a 4-1 victory in Thursday’s Colonial Division matchup.
Mackenzie Peters headed in what would hold up as the game-winning goal late in the first half, and Mattie Williams picked up a pair of assists for the Patriots.

Mackenzie Peters assisted by Mattie Williams (CBE), 37th minute
Second half
Addy Langlois (CBE), 45th minute
Kiera Sleicher assisted by Mattie Williams (CBE), 56th minute
Central Bucks East coach Jake Nesteruk: “A good result from our team despite us spending much of the day not playing particularly well. Much credit to North Penn – they know how to make the game difficult and I thought they put in a really strong performance. We converted an early chance from a great ball in behind from Ella Roumy to Taylor. But after that, we spent much of the first half trying to establish a rhythm but couldn’t find it.
“For us to let up a goal near the end of the half was a letdown, but credit to our kids for the immediate response from a really well-worked goal from Mattie Williams serving a ball in for Mackenzie Peters to finish with her head.
“In the second half, we came out with a good bite, and saw us extend the lead within the first 10 from a really well hit ball by Addy in the run of play following a corner. Shortly after, Kiera Sleicher dropped in a well hit ball from distance to give us a cushion to help us see through the second half.
“We definitely left this game proud of putting together the pieces to come out with a win, but much to build on.”
—Langlois has her moment: “Throughout her time in CB East girls soccer, Addy Langlois has a knack for delivering big goals when we need them. She has been completely lights out for us this year in the back but hasn’t had a really clean look in front of goal. Today the moment showed up and she took it. A really good team moment.”

Souderton coach Melisssa Lollar: “We had a strong first half of possession and play but could not find the back of the net on a lot of the chances. While the second half may have looked different than the first from us, our girls really fought to pull out the win.”
—Team effort: “I really thought Lily Heron, Julia Purvy, Abby March, Cailee Cush, and Cam Hoover all played a role in making our attack dangerous in the final third. Our defensive line of Kylie Cummings, Lilly Fisher, Maddie Moreland, and Jules Purvy did a very good job at staying disciplined as well. I also felt our midfield of Hannah Beckett, Aidia Manners, and Meg Borro played a physical and clean first half.
“Lilly Fisher played a great ball in on a set piece for Hannah Beckett to get us on the board before halftime. In the second half, we came out strong and Lily Heron was able to create a great chance and give us another goal. South, I felt responded well and caused us to lose some composure, creating lots of counters that were dangerous, which caused their goals.
“Cam Lobel had some key saves tonight throughout the second half that kept our lead. Hannah Beckett had a very strong night and was able to find the net off of a corner from Aidia Manners and then got her third on a set piece just outside of the 18 with a well drive ball.”

Pennridge 3, Central Bucks West 0
Pennridge is on a roll. And when things go well for the team, things tend to go well for individual players.
The Rams picked up their fifth consecutive win following a three-game losing skid (that itself came after a 4-0 start to the season). On an individual level, Laina Voytko broke out of a long scoring slump, while Allie Crowe netted her first goal of the season as the Rams blanked Colonial Division opponent Central Bucks West 3-0 on Thursday.
Kylie Manville picked up a pair of assists in the win, while Liv Buckman posted the shutout.

Pennridge coach Lucas Kriner: “It was great to have three different goal-scorers in Laina, Mikayla, and Allie. They were neat moments because of how we scored the goals. All the tallies resulted from different types of attack, so we can be pleased with that variety: we can scrap and battle for goals but we can also create chances that are beautiful with a well-timed run and a shaped ball.”
—Defense stands tall: “Our back line did a nice job tonight of cleaning up danger and finding moments to go forward after regain. Happy for Liv Buckman getting the shutout with the help of center backs and fullbacks, who were willing to cover a lot of ground in this match.”
—Building the momentum: “We’re finding a good rhythm, but the key is to stay sharp for more good performances and fight for league points upcoming. Overall, great energy from the team.”

Liberty Division
Plymouth Whitemarsh 4, Upper Dublin 1
Plymouth Whitemarsh started strong and finished stronger, scoring in the first 10 minutes of Thursday’s Liberty Division matchup against Upper Dublin, then putting the game away with two tallies in the final four minutes to earn the 4-1 victory.
Molly McEvoy scored twice for the Colonials, who led 1-0 after an early goal. Upper Dublin tied the game at 1-1 early in the second quarter and picked up the pressure, but PW responded with McEvoy’s first of the day to break the tie with 12:27 remaining. McEvoy added her second with 4 minutes left to play.

Emma Meyer (PW), 2 minutes remaining
Plymouth Whitemarsh coach T.J. DeLucia: “We had a big time league match-up today vs. Upper Dublin. We have a lot of respect for Upper Dublin and there was a lot at stake for us – our backs were against the wall in terms of playoff rankings, defending our league title, etc.
“We came out strong in the first half. Seven minutes, senior captain Liv Patete scored her fourth goal off a corner kick from senior captain Maddi Lazaroff. We went into half 1-0, and we felt like we should have another goal or two at that point.
“Upper Dublin responded in the second half with a goal five minutes in, and for the next 15 minutes, they were flying. We withstood that energy rush somehow and the game remained at 1-1.
“In the final 12 minutes, we put away three goals to win the game. Sophomore captain Molly McEvoy scored our second goal, tapping in a corner kick from senior Bella Zeoli. She scored again with four minutes remaining in the game off of a free kick from Maddi Laz. Today was Maddi’s sixth & seventh assists of the season. Those two goals from McEvoy gives her the team lead with five on the season.
“Finally, with 2:30 left in the game, Emma Meyer scored her third goal of the season on a shot from deep. We’ve been moving Meyer around all season and today she played in the ‘6’ and really grew into that role as the game went on.”
—Props: “Laz and Patete returned as our center back pairing today and were strong defensively along with Bella Zeoli and JJ Lafferty.”
—Big day for Jackson: “Our star of the game was Izzy Jackson. On a day where she found out she made PW’s Homecoming Court, she was all over the field. When Izzy is on, she is one of our best players and today she was excellent.”
—Moving forward: “We live to fight another day and we’re really excited to play Quakertown. We know what a battle that will be.”

Wissahickon coach Chris McDaniels: “We came out with a bit of a slow start, and it was nice to see the energy level and quality upped when we made some substitutions. The girls that came in were ready to step up. Attacking-wise, we did a nice job putting Kate in good positions and she did the rest. Defensively, the entire unit limited chances and Sidney Jackson was solid when she was called upon. I’m proud of all 20 players that contributed today.”

—Lyons making her mark: “Bea Lyons, a sophomore, has been asked to play several different positions this season and has embraced every challenge. Bea is the type of player every coach wants on their team. She works hard, puts the team first, and holds herself to a high standard in everything she does. Her willingness to do whatever is needed for the team speaks volumes about her character and commitment. The future is bright for Bea, and we look forward to watching her continue to grow and make an impact on this program.”
—Down the stretch: “It’s hard to believe there are only two weeks left in the season! We’ll continue to work hard, stay focused, and push each other every day as we prepare for the playoffs. Lower Moreland coach Todd Hill: “A school soccer season is such an intense and exhausting grind for two months. Mentally and physically exhausting. This year, we are playing the hardest schedule we have played in the past 5 years. Every game, I ask my girls to show up and figure out how to compete at their highest level. The last two weeks, they have been tested like never before, and have had to figure it out against really strong opponents almost every other day. Today, with a really strong showing from Upper Moreland, our girls had to figure it out again. And they did. It was not pretty for parts of the game, but they figured out what needed to be done, and they did it. I am really proud of them. Upper Moreland played a really smart and aggressive game today – they really challenged us.”
—Props: “Shannon Mahon, Agnes Kroll, Evie O’Brien, Cam Cowley, and Gabbie Sellecchia really stepped up and sparked us today when we most needed it.
“The girls did create some great goals today. The first came in the first half after senior Quinn Rozanski slid a ball through to senior Shannon Mahon, who attacked the goal and slid the ball past the goalkeeper.
“The second goal, coming in the second half, was the reverse. Shannon attacked the endline and then sent a ball to Quinn at the top of the box. Quinn buried a beautiful shot in the corner of the net from 18 yards out.
“The final goal came from a build up from the back line. Wing sophomore Ella Fey sent a nice through ball to Shannon Mahon. Shannon made a nice cutback on her defender and again slid the ball past the keeper.”
Upper Moreland coach Lisa Benvenuto: “We’ve put in a lot of time at practice working on our formation and balance, and we knew coming into today’s match that it would be an 80-minute battle. Our defensive unit delivered a commanding performance, anchored by the stellar play of Aubrey Scarpitti and Julie Albert in the backline.
We came out fast, applying high pressure and putting Lower Moreland on their heels. After going down early, we answered back within a minute, with an incredible finish from Leah King. Madeline Cox found Leah, who turned with her back to the goal and fired a brilliant shot into the upper ninety. It was a massive equalizer goal that kept our momentum going. We followed up with several more dangerous chances that just missed or were saved.
“Through it all, we played smart and never let off the gas. The final score resulted in a loss, but we walked off that field with our heads held high. Standout performances were delivered today from Leah King, Julie Albert, and Madeline Cox.”
Upper Moreland 1 0 – 1

Once we got the lead, we were able to give our starters who have been putting in a lot of minutes some needed rest. Strong game by sophomore Ava Jakimoski and junior Olivia Jakimoski, who were both relentless on the ball.”
New Hope-Solebury coach Chris Shank: “Tennent has a very strong team and possessed the ball real well. They are very well-coached and should make a long run in districts. Our girls will learn from this and we have three more games left to go.”
