WISSAHICKON 5, UPPER DUBLIN 3
Sophomore Sara Genell allowed just four hits en route to her first varsity win. She walked 10 and struck out three.
“She throws a heavy ball,” coach Mike Borkowski said. “She keeps it down in the zone, and she’s good at jamming hitters.
“She doesn’t allow the ball to sit out over home plate. She’s going to be a stud pitcher in the next couple of years I think. The difference between this year when she first started and now – I don’t even want to say night and day – it’s something beyond night and day. She’s really been terrific. She’s really come along, and she just showed up now, and she’s ready to be a varsity pitcher.”
While Genell was getting the job done in the circle, Andrea Mazurek was a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate, which included a two-out, two-run double with the bases loaded in the Trojans’ five-run fourth inning. Michaela Coleman also had a two-run double in the inning, and Zoe Trumbore singled to drive in a run.
The Flying Cardinals put a pair of runs on the board in the fifth, but that would be the extent of the scoring for both teams the rest of the way.
The Trojans’ big win came 24 hours after falling to the Flying Cardinals 14-2 in an abbreviated five-inning game.
“They laid it on us pretty good the last game,” Borkowski said. “They got (10) runs in the second inning.
“We avoided that big inning today. It was payback time. I told the girls yesterday, ‘Don’t let this bother you all night. Be ready for tomorrow. Come in with the idea of revenge on your minds.’ We should have been in that game with them. We got lit up in the second inning.
“Sara set the tone today. She really pitched well, and Andrea Mazurek came through. I was happy for the girls. They showed a lot of character and bounced back today.”
Wissahickon (2-12, 2-9 SOL) will host Upper Moreland on Friday, and Upper Dublin (6-9, 5-7) will host North Penn in a non-league contest.

UPPER MORELAND 13, NORRISTOWN 1 (5 innings)
The Golden Bears used a 10-run fifth inning to blow open a close game and bring an early end to the contest.
For a while, it looked like it could be anyone’s game. The Golden Bears scored a single run in the first, but the Eagles knotted the score with a run in the top of the fourth. The Golden Bears tacked on two runs more in the fourth and ended it in the fifth.
The top of the lineup did most of the damage for the Bears. Maddie Mull was 2-for-4 with a double, two RBIs and two runs scored out of the leadoff spot. Nicole Drummond was a perfect 4-for-4 with an RBI and three runs scored out of the two hole. Allie Miller, who bats third, was 2-for-4 with a double, two RBIs and a run scored. Cleanup batter Amber O’Connor was 1-for-3 with an RBI and two runs scored. Chloe Tice was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a run scored on a day that saw the Golden Bears pound out 13 hits.
Brianna Byard earned the win, allowing just one hit and one run while striking out three and walking a pair.
Upper Moreland (11-3, 8-3) will be on the road at Wissahickon on Friday, and Norristown (5-12, 3-10) will host Plymouth Whitemarsh on Tuesday.

In the two-run first, Elena Iannuzzelli had an RBI single, and Josie Tassoni hit an RBI triple.
Iannuzzelli was the only PW player with a pair of hits. Ashley Yeager was 1-for-3 with an RBI.
For the Lady Panthers, who held a 10-7 advantage in hits, Morgan and Madison Gianelle each had a pair of hits. Veata Blair-Kraybill and Izzy Picone also added two hits each.
Yeager earned the win in the circle, allowing 10 hits but just one run while striking out six and walking none.
Plymouth Whitemarsh (8-5, 7-5 SOL) will travel to Norristown on Tuesday, and Cheltenham (5-12, 3-9) will host Springfield on Friday.

UPPER MERION 16, SPRINGFIELD TOWNSHIP 0 (4 innings)
Olivia Sborlini put her name in the school record books, eclipsing the mark for career wins of 47 held by Tracy Dueber (’97).
“She still has more room to tack a few more on,” coach John Whitney said.
The senior standout allowed just two hits in four shutout innings, and for good measure, Sblorlini also turned in a dazzling 4-for-4 effort at the plate that included four runs scored and two RBIs.
The Vikings scored two runs in the first and blew the game wide open with a six-run second, and they were just getting started.
In addition to Sborlini, Abby Volpe was 2-for-3 with four RBIs while Nicole Kowalski was 3-for-3 with two runs scored and two RBIs. All told, the Vikings pounded out 13 hits.
Upper Merion (16-1, 13-0 SOL) will host Perkiomen Valley in a non-league contest on Friday, and Springfield (6-7, 6-5) will be on the road at Cheltenham on Friday.

QUAKERTOWN 2, CENTRAL BUCKS SOUTH 1
With two outs in the bottom of the seventh and the score deadlocked 1-1, freshman Maddie Moyer delivered a clutch single to left field that plated Tara Baglivo – who singled and stole second – with the game winner. It was a dramatic end to a classic conference battle under the lights at Veterans Park.
“Up steps my freshman catcher, and I thought – do I call timeout and talk to her,” coach Rich Scott said of Moyer. “I thought, ‘You know what – she knows what she’s doing.’ She gets up there and hits a line drive to left field, and Tara scored from second.
“It was a very, very good game. Very well pitched, very well played all-around good game.”
While Moyer stole the spotlight with her seventh-inning heroics, senior pitcher Alyssa Wilkinson turned in a stellar outing of her own, allowing just six hits and one run while striking out five and walking none.
“She pitched real well,” Scott said. “She threw a total of 82 pitches tonight. Against CB East (in Tuesday’s loss), she threw 132.”
The Panthers got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the third when Meghan Klee drew a bases-loaded walk. It could have been more as the Panthers had the bases loaded with none out, but CB South pitcher Kylie Kenney came up with a clutch strikeout, a popup to short and a groundout to escape relatively unscathed.
In the top of the seventh, the Titans rallied to knot the score. Meg Bradley singled to left, and the Titans had a pair on board after Taylor Marinelli legged out a bunt single. Both runners advanced on a sacrifice bunt by Mikaela Simons, and Bradley raced home with the tying run when Alexis McConomy’s fly ball to center was dropped. Wilkinson brought an abrupt end to the threat by striking out the next two batters she faced. The Panthers won it in their half of the seventh.
“I knew South was going to be a tough game,” Scott said. “I knew they improved. They have a nice team.”
Quakertown’s top three batters were a combined 7-for-10. Spenser Gray was 3-for-4 out of the leadoff spot while Baglivo was 2-for-4 with a run scored, and Klee was 2-for-2 with an RBI. Hillary Scott – back in the lineup for the first time Wednesday – was 1-for-3 with a run scored.
For the Titans, Maddie Bieber and McConomy both had doubles.
McConomy absorbed the loss, allowing three hits and one run in 2.2 innings, striking out three and walking one.
Quakertown (13-4, 9-3 SOL) will travel to Souderton for a key conference battle on Monday, and Central Bucks South (11-7, 5-7) will host Pennridge on Monday.

SOUDERTON 1, NORTH PENN 0
Alex Scheeler’s eyes widened when she realized that her team had managed just two hits but still found a way to win.
“That’s good for us,” the Indians’ pitcher said. “I guess that just means we held it together more than they did.”
It took a break for the Indians to win it in the bottom of the seventh.
Dayna Shelly opened the inning by drawing a walk, Alyssa McCormick followed with a bloop single to left, and when the Maidens elected to not throw the ball to first on Jen Klepfer’s grounder to third, the bases were loaded with none out, setting the stage for a controversial ending.
Brianna Reuss hit a slow roller to first and was hit on the throw to the plate, allowing Shelly to score from third. Although North Penn argued that Reuss should be called out for interference, the two umpires conferred and ruled the play would stand, giving the red hot Indians their fifth straight win and seventh in eight games.
“We just continue to fight every single game, no matter what the score is,” coach Steph Rummel said. “That’s something our girls are really good at. They don’t ever quit.
“Especially coming into this game, they knew it was going to be a tough game. They came out ready to play and ready to fight for it.”
Scheeler was in command in the circle, allowing just five hits in the complete game shutout.
“That’s her third game this week,” Rummel said. “She’s come out really strong every single day this week.
“I did commend her for that, and she kept her composure when she wasn’t getting the calls she wanted. She did an outstanding job today to keep us in that game.”
“All my pitches were working,” Scheeler said. “I feel like everyone is getting more confident as we go along, and we’re bonding even more than we were in the beginning.
“I guess we’ve just clicked as a team, and it’s a chain reaction.”
Bri Battavio absorbed the loss despite a strong outing.
Souderton (10-5, 8-4 SOL) will take on Christopher Dock in its annual game under the lights at Stover Field in Telford on Friday. North Penn (8-9, 7-6) will travel to Upper Dublin for a non-league game on Friday.

CENTRAL BUCKS EAST 9, CENTRAL BUCKS WEST 0
The Patriots scored four runs in the second inning and added two more in the third to go on top 6-0 on their way to the decisive win.
Theresa Haug and Kayla Ventura combined for the one-hit shutout. Haug allowed one hit and fanned one while walking none in four innings. Ventura did not allow a hit in three innings, fanning four and walking one.
East’s four-run second was highlighted by RBI singles from Nicole Tracy and Tara Harper as well as Brady Tillotson’s steal of home.
Hailey Aspinwall was 3-for-4 out of the leadoff spot while Harper was 3-for-4 with two RBIs out of the two hole. Tracy was 2-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Alyssa Catron, who reached base on all four trips to the plate, was 1-for-1 with three runs scored.

PENNSBURY 5, COUNCIL ROCK SOUTH 1
The Golden Hawks took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first, but the rest of the game belonged to the Falcons, who plated three runs in the second inning and never looked back.
“The kids have really just grown,” coach Frank McSherry said.
In the three-run second, Alyssa Hileman opened the inning with a base hit, and the Falcons benefitted from several Rock South miscues as well as a sacrifice fly by Olivia Mauro.
The Falcons tacked on a pair of runs in the fifth. Freshman Alex Rishel delivered a single with the bases loaded to drive in a run, and the second run crossed the plate on an error.
Leading the Falcons at the plate were Bailee Zaccaro (2-for-4), Hileman (2-for-4) and Rishel (2-for-4).
Phylicia Wilkov was 3-for-4 to lead the Golden Hawks.
Hileman earned the complete game win in the circle, allowing eight hits.
“She only had one strikeout, so we had to make 20 plays,” said McSherry, whose team committed just one error. “If we were called upon to make 19-20 plays in the field at the beginning of the season, we were making three or four errors a game.
“We’ve played much better defensively.”
Pennsbury (6-9, 5-6 SOL) will host Bensalem on Friday and then will travel to Robbinsville on Saturday for its annual non-league game against the New Jersey powerhouse. Council Rock South (8-5, 5-4) will host Council Rock North on Friday.

NESHAMINY 2, HARRY S TRUMAN 1
The Redskins scored a pair of fourth-inning runs and held off a feisty Tiger squad that refused to go away.
“We are hitting, but not at the right times,” said coach Dave Chichilitti, whose team held a 9-4 advantage in hits.
Hunter Hart doubled to lead off the fourth inning, and she scored one out later when Devan Masciulli delivered an RBI double. Alexis Watkins hit the third double of the inning, this one plating Masciulli, but Maria Dea retired the next two batters she faced on groundouts to bring an end to that threat.
In the bottom of the seventh, the Tigers cut the Redskins’ advantage in half with an unearned run, but the Redskins held on for the win.
Hart (2-for-3) and Masciulli (2-for-3) were the only players with multiple hits.
Sarah Dowalo had one of four Redskin doubles and also earned the win. She allowed one hit and no runs in four and two thirds innings, fanning five. Amber Brugger closed it out, allowing three hits over the final two-and-a-third innings.
Neshaminy (14-2, 11-1 SOL) will host Council Rock South on Tuesday, and Harry S Truman (4-14, 3-10) will host Central Bucks East in a non-league game on Friday.

WILLIAM TENNENT 6, BENSALEM 4
The Panthers plated a pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth to break a 4-4 tie. Cassidy Hubmaster’s successful suicide squeeze and Jackie Heim’s RBI single highlighted the frame.
“It was a good win, especially after yesterday,” coach Biz Keeny said of his team’s 5-4 non-league loss to Central Bucks South on Wednesday. “We have to learn to finish those games out.”
Earlier, the Owls went on top 3-1 after a three-run fourth, and they took a 4-1 lead into the fifth when the Panthers scored three runs to knot the score.
For the Panthers, Heim was 2-for-4 with two doubles. Brianna Koonce added a pair of hits, including a double, and Caitlin Mitros had two hits. Leah Hetzel also doubled.
Reilly Dougherty earned the win in the circle and Kalisi Taufalele was credited with a save.
Bensalem senior Lauren Morell reached a historic milestone when she collected hit number 100 of a stellar varsity career.
“This young lady is the embodiment of a great student-athlete and a team player,” coach Dan Schram said. “The joy of the game that kids have when they start playing is still alive and well in Lauren.
“She is a role model for our younger players to know how a senior and a young woman should carry herself. It has been an honor to be her coach, and I look forward to watching her in college. One of the best to have played at Bensalem High School.”
Tennent coach Biz Keeny – whose daughter Sara rooms with Lauren’s sister Jackie at Kutztown University – was hoping to avoid having the historic hit happen against his squad.
“I’m trying not to give in because I want to be able to walk away and say – we stopped her at 99, but I couldn’t do it,” the Panthers’ coach said. “Kalisi got a 3-2 count, and we threw her inside and she pulled it foul.
“She’s standing on the plate, and I’m thinking ‘I’ve got to go back in there.’ She fouls another ball off. It was a critical time in the game, and I’m thinking, ‘We can’t walk this kid.’ I don’t want to give in. I’m going to make her hit her way on. Lo and behold, I came in a third time, and she hit the ball over the first baseman’s head. I told her afterwards, ‘Lauren, I didn’t want to be the guy that gave up your 100th hit. I love you and I love your sister, but when we’re playing against each other…’ No, it was really good for her. I’m glad for the kid.”
Morell, Meg Nally and Stephanie Yost all finished with a pair of hits for the Owls.
William Tennent (9-8, 6-4 SOL) will travel to Central Bucks East for a non-league game on Monday. Bensalem (3-11, 1-9) will be on the road at Pennsbury on Friday.

COUNCIL ROCK NORTH 11, ABINGTON 1 (5 innings)
The Indians led 4-0 after two innings, and when the Ghosts plated a single run in the top of the third by a solo home run off the bat of Nikki Ray, the Indians answered with six in the bottom of the inning to put the game out of reach.
“It was an all-around solid win,” coach John Engelhardt said.
All nine Rock North starters reached base, and seven of nine collected hits. Lauren Begg was 1-for-2 with a double. Nicole Rounsavill had a triple while Hannah Stalker and Marissa Haynes both contributed doubles.
Senior Amanda Camp earned the win in the circle, allowing seven hits and one run in five innings.
