QUAKERTOWN 3, PLYMOUTH WHITEMARSH 2 (OT)
The Panthers just keep finding ways to win. On Monday night, it was Katie Crouthamel turning in an inspired three-goal performance to lead the Panthers to the dramatic come-from-behind overtime win.
“Katie had three brilliant goals tonight,” said coach Mike Koch, whose team trailed 2-0 at halftime. “She was a difference maker tonight.
“As a senior and a player with so much ability, it’s nice to have those shining moments, and tonight was her shining moment, no doubt about it.”
Goals by Victoria Betterly and Ali Diamond sent the Colonials into halftime with a 2-0 lead, but the Panthers came roaring back. Crouthamel put the Panthers on the scoreboard 10 minutes into the second half and then knotted the score with 2:44 remaining in regulation. Crouthamel’s game winner came 5:55 into overtime.
“We threw numbers forward, and Katie had another brilliant goal to tie it,” Koch said. “Actually, they put us under a little bit of pressure at the beginning of overtime, but once we countered on them – Katie beat two defenders and scored her third goal.”
Contributing assists were Sam Ramsden, Haley Pursel and Kyra Handel.
“The first half is an absolute credit to PW,” Koch said. “They came out and played really, really, really hard.
“We had the ball more and more shots, but they put the ball in the net. It was a test for us because we really haven’t been down all year. We brought a lot of pressure in the second half. I don’t know if we did anything different. We just kind of maintained our composure. I just think sometimes when you’re down it’s easy to lose that.”
Koch went on to acknowledge the strong midfield play of Lauren Pursel as well as PW’s Ragan Ebersole.
“I thought they both played really well – they were really strong players in the midfield for each team,” the Panthers’ coach said.
Quakertown has not lost in eight games.
“It’s fantastic for them to get a reward for all their hard work,” Koch said. “They worked hard every year in the (Continental Conference), and it was a great experience, but it was hard to get that reward at the end.”
