MEN’S BASKETBALL
Moravian sophomore guard Jimmy Murray (Plymouth Whitemarsh) was selected as the Landmark Conference Men’s Basketball Athlete of the Week for the week ending Jan. 29. The PW graduate helped the
Greyhounds to a 2-0 week in Landmark Conference action by averaging 17.5 points per game. Murray connected on 13-of-21 shots from the field (61.9 percent), and he was 8-for-12 (66.7 percent) beyond the three-point line to go with three assists, three blocked shots and two steals for the week. Murray had 14 points, a steal and a blocked shot in an 84-69 win over Goucher College. He then shot 8-of-12, including 4-of-5 on three-pointers, for 21 points in Moravian’s 80-77 win over No. 11 Susquehanna, the program’s first win over a ranked team since December 2001. Murray added three assists, two blocked shots and a steal in the victory while playing 32 minutes.
Murray scored 12 points in Moravian’s 79-63 win over Elizabethtown College on Saturday. In Wednesday’s 69-61 loss to the University of Scranton, Murray netted a team-high 16 points.
Freshman Khalil White (Cheltenham) contributed 13 points, three rebounds and one assist in Penn State Harrisburg’s 56-53 win over Frostburg State on Wednesday.
Freshman guard Riley Thompson (Council Rock North) set a new career scoring high for the second time in as many outings in Ithaca College's 98-88 loss to Stevens Institute of Technology on Saturday. The CR North graduate poured in a game-high 27 points, which included a 5-for-8 mark from three-point range. The IC rookie added four rebounds, two assists and one steal in 32 minutes. In Friday's 85-77 loss to Alfred University, Thomas scored 21 points on 5-of-11 shooting from the field. He went 3-for-9 from beyond the arc and a perfect 8-of-8 at the charity stripe while also adding three assists in 28 minutes of action.
Senior Ryan Charity (Pennsbury) scored a career-high 27 points to go with five rebounds, five assists and a pair of steals in Cabrini’s 103-87 win over Keystone College on Saturday. In Wednesday’s 79-78 loss at Rosemont, Charity connected on 8-of-10 from the field for 18 points, which included 3-for-4 from three-point range.
Evan Slone (Souderton) scored nine points in Arcadia’s 107-96 loss to Lycoming on Saturday.
Josh McWilliams (Council Rock North) scored 18 points in McDaniel’s 89-81 loss to Swarthmore on Saturday. In Wednesday’s 53-50 loss to Dickinson, McWilliams netted 16 points.
Freshman John Ryan (William Tennent) scored 20 points in Penn State Abington’s 81-63 win over Bryn Athyn on Saturday.
Junior Zach Quattro (Hatboro-Horsham) scored 13 points and pulled down eight rebounds in Ursinus College’s 95-65 win over Washington College on Saturday. Sophomore Zack Muredda (Pennridge) also had eight rebounds while sophomore Matt Margolis (Council Rock North) added five points. In Wednesday’s 94-82 win over Franklin & Marshall, Quattro netted 15 points – 11 after intermission.
Arron Goodman (Council Rock North) scored a team-high 19 points in Gwynedd Mercy’s 87-84 win over Rosemont on Saturday. In Wednesday’s 84-67 win over Cairn University, Goodman scored a game-high 23 points – 15 in the first half on 6-of-7 shooting.
Lock Haven freshman Amir Hinton (Abington) was named the PSAC Freshman of the Week for the week
ending Jan. 28, marking the fourth consecutive week and sixth time he has received the award. Over a two-game span, Hinton averaged 26.5 points per game. He also averaged 6.5 rebounds per game. In a tight loss to Bloomsburg, Hinton had 27 points, two rebounds, two steals and a block. In Lock Haven’s win over East Stroudsburg, Hinton had 26 points, 11 rebounds (all defensive) and two assists. On the season, Hinton averages 23.4 points per game, which is second in the PSAC and eighth in the NCAA Division II ranks.
Hinton led all scorers with 27 points and added four rebounds, three offensive, in Lock Haven’s 100-69 loss to 10th-ranked Kutztown on Saturday.
Ryan Connolly (Souderton) and Anthony Lee (Abington) scored 13 points apiece in No. 10 Kutztown’s 100-69 over Lock Haven on Saturday. Connolly finished with three triples while Lee added six rebounds and two steals. Both finished 4-for-4 at the line. The win was KU’s 10th straight. In Wednesday’s 81-75 win over No. 9 Shippensburg, Connolly scored 11 points while Lee added 10.
WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
Senior Lauren Crisler (North Penn) scored 18 points and led the team with seven rebounds in American University’s 70-58 win over Lehigh on Saturday. In Wednesday’s 59-47 win over Bucknell, junior Michael Harris (Abington) scored a career-high 16 points off the bench. It was the first conference loss of the season for Bucknell.
Freshman Cassidy Quattro (Hatboro-Horsham) collected a team-best eight points and three assists in Washington College’s 48-36 loss to Ursinus College on Saturday.
Freshman Jordan Vitelli (Central Bucks South) went 3-of-5 from beyond the arc for nine points and also had two assists and a rebound in the University of the Sciences 73-39 win over Felician University on Saturday. Freshman Mikaela Giuliani (North Penn) added four points, three rebounds and one assist. In Wednesday’s 65-53 win over Holy Family, Vitelli had five rebounds and six points.
Freshman Allison Chernow (Upper Dublin) contributed six points on back-to-back three-pointers to open the second quarter in Emory’s 61-59 loss at Brandeis on Friday.
Freshman Nicole Munger (Central Bucks West) contributed seven points, two rebounds and one assist in Michigan’s 72-70 come-from-behind win over Iowa on Sunday. The CB West graduate scored the go-ahead layup with 20 seconds remaining
Alysha Lofton (Central Bucks South) posted her 10th double-double of the season with 17 points and 11 rebounds in Albright’s 84-69 win over Lebanon Valley on Saturday. In Wednesday’s 75-52 win over Hood, Lofton scored 10 points.
Freshman Sammy Lochner (Abington) contributed seven points and four assists in Saint Peter’s 57-44 loss to Manhattan on Monday.
Freshman Lydia Constanzer (Pennridge) just missed a double-double with nine points and a game-high 10 rebounds in Ursinus College’s 48-36. She also dished out a career-high five assists. In Wednesday’s 53-35 win at Franklin & Marshall, Konstanzer registered a double-double with 14 points and 14 rebounds.
Guard Alynna Williams (Plymouth Whitemarsh) knocked down a career-high five threes on her way to a 17-point afternoon in Philadelphia University’s 83-69 loss to Concordia on Saturday. In Wednesday’s 64-51 win over Goldey-Beacom, Williams poured in a game-high 24 points – 19 in the second half. She shot 4-of-7 from the floor and 10-of-13 at the free throw line in the second half.
Stephanie Knauer (North Penn) had 12 points on 4-of-6 shooting and two steals in Shippensburg’s 82-46 win over Bloomsburg on Saturday. In Wednesday’s 71-53 win over Kutztown, Knauer scored 17 first-half points. She finished with a game-high 20 points and eight rebounds on 8-of-11 shooting, making 4-of-6 attempts from the free throw line.
Vicky Tumasz (North Penn) filled a stat sheet with 17 points, six rebounds, two assists and one steal in Chestnut Hill’s 78-67 loss to Dominican College on Saturday. In Wednesday’s 98-84 win over Washington Adventist, Tumasz scored a career-high 24 points on 6-of-14 shooting from the floor. She added seven rebounds, three assists and five steals in 29 minutes.
Taylor Thames (North Penn) came off the bench to contribute 10 points on 3-of-4 shooting and 4-of-4 free throws in Kutztown’s 71-53 loss to Shippensburg on Wednesday. It was her fourth double-digit scoring effort in the last four games.
Aigner Bookard (Cheltenham) scored six points in Cairn University’s 65-37 loss to Gwynedd Mercy on Wednesday.
Senior guard Rachel Falkowski (Central Bucks South) scored 10 points in East Stroudsburg’s 86-54 win over Cheyney on Wednesday. The CB South graduate hit all three of her field goal attempts and also had five rebounds.
Devan Rimmer (Pennridge) scored 11 points and teammate Allison Gallagher (Souderton) added 10 points and seven rebounds in Widener’s 65-54 loss to Stevenson on Saturday. Both also had three steals. In Wednesday’s 70-49 loss to Lebanon Valley, Gallagher and Rimmer led Widener with 13 and 12 points respectively. Both had six rebounds, and Gallagher also contributed three steals.
Freshman Marissa Sandone (Souderton) scored eight points in Gwynedd Mercy’s 65-37 win over Cairn University on Wednesday.
MEN’S SWIMMING & DIVING
Freshman Ogden Leyens (Upper Dublin) broke his second school record of the year in 16th-ranked Gettysburg’s 116-86 win over Dickinson College on Wednesday. The Upper Dublin graduate made his collegiate debut in the 1,000-freestyle a memorable one, clocking a time of 9:49.30 to better a four-day old school record of 9:51.11. He led from start to finish with a negative-split performance, swimming the second half of the race faster than the first after passing through the 250 mark in 4:58.02. Leyens also broke the school record in the 500 free (4:33.68) earlier this season. He also finished second in the 100 free (48.73) and was part of a win in the exhibition 200 free relay. In Saturday’s 148-111 win at Franklin & Marshall, Leyens finished first in the 200 free (1:46.02) and third in the 500 free (5:07.65).
WOMEN’S SWIMMING & DIVING
Marist junior Megan Berardelli (Wissahickon) was named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Diver of the Week for the week ending Jan. 28. Berardelli led a pair of 1-2-3 Marist finishes on the diving boards, racking up scores of 278.25 points and 292.27 points in the 1-meter and 3-meter dives respectively. She has won both diving events at five dual meets and one invitational during the 2016-17 campaign.
La Salle junior Sydney Szopo (Upper Moreland) posted a score of 224.75 to finish fifth in diving at the Penn State Invitational last Sunday.
Kutztown senior Aimee Watkins (Hatboro-Horsham) finished third in the 500 free (5:45.75) at the ESU Invitational on Saturday. She was eighth in the 200 free (2:12.73). Caitlyn Falguera (Hatboro-Horsham) finished fourth in the 200 back (2:31.13) and ninth in the 100 back (1:11.13).
East Stroudsburg junior Rebecca Samson (Council Rock North) finished second in the 200 back with a time of 2:27.25 at the ESU Invitational on Saturday.
MEN’S TRACK & FIELD
Monmouth sophomore Matt Shober (Central Bucks South) was part of the men’s distance medley that ran a time of 9:59.79 at the Scarlet & White Invitational at Boston University, qualifying for the IC4A Championships and earning the No. 4 time in school history. The relay team finished sixth in a race that saw the top three teams finish among the fastest 10 times in the country this year.
Kutztown redshirt sophomore Jhaloni Johnson (Springfield) ran the third fastest 60m in the field of 54 to qualify for the PSAC championships at the Frank Colden Invitational at Ursinus College on Saturday. He crossed in a career-best 7.14 but did not run in the final. Anthony Bullaro (Pennsbury) finished second in the 60m hurdle finals with a PSAC existing time of 8.52. Ryan Benner (Pennridge) posted a time of 24.38 in the 200m dash to finish 21st.
WOMEN’S TRACK & FIELD
Monmouth sophomore Brianna Stratz (Central Bucks South) was fourth overall in the 500m with a time of 1:16.48 at the New York Armory on Friday night. On Saturday, Amber Stratz (Central Bucks South) was part of the 4×800 relay team that took first, crossing the tape in 9:03.46. At the Scarlet & White Invitational at Boston University on Saturday, sophomore Allison Taub (Council Rock South) was fifth in the shot put with a mark of 42-10 ¼.
Shippensburg freshman Sophia Carrabba (Abington) finished fourth in the 400m dash (1:02.44) at the Susquehanna University Challenge on Friday. Lindsay Sheehan (Pennridge) finished seventh in the 200 (27.60) and eighth in the 60 (8.29). Jackie Kinkead (Central Bucks East) was eighth in the mile with a time of 5:36.46.
Kutztown freshman Olivia Morano (Quakertown) posted a season-best throw of 10.76m (35-03.75) at the Frank Colden Invitational at Ursinus College on Saturday.
WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL
Senior co-captain Christian Lizana (Pennridge) registered five kills and three services aces in No. 9 Vassar College’s 3-0 win over No. 6 New York University on Friday.
WRESTLING
Mikey O’Brien (North Penn) earned an 8-0 major decision at 141 in No. 25 Kutztown’s 20-19 loss to eighth-ranked Mercyhurst in a battle of nationally-ranked opponents. Jeff Reimel (North Penn) earned a 15-0 tech fall at 184.
Freshman Bruce Graeber (Neshaminy) earned his fourth pin of the season in the heavyweight bout in Bloomsburg’s 26-23 loss at Cleveland State on Friday.
