NESHAMINY 2, COUNCIL ROCK SOUTH 1
In a classic conference battle, it was the Redskins eking out a win over the Golden Hawks.
“We didn’t hit the ball great today, but we played tremendous defense,” Neshaminy coach Dave Chichiletti said. “We made every single play.
“All the things that we practice – we were messing around during the rain the other day practicing rundowns. We got a girl out in a rundown today, we threw out three-of-three base runners, girls from the outfield were covering bases on rundowns.
“We didn’t make a single error. To me, it was like a playoff game that we lost in the past because of a mistake in the field. It felt like that kind of game today, but we made every single play.”
The Redskins put an unearned run on the board in the first inning. Amber Brugger, who reached base on an error to open the frame, scored on Hunter Hart’s RBI single. The Golden Hawks knotted the score in the top of the fourth when freshman Danielle Walters, who singled to lead off the inning, scored on Steph Andreoli’s RBI single.
In the bottom of the inning, the Redskins scored the go-ahead run that proved to be the game winner. Devan Masciulli hit a two-out single, and she scored when Alexis Watkins followed with a clutch RBI double.
“Practicing in the gym two days from rain, the junior class trip is Friday, Saturday and Sunday,” Chichilitti said. “You go out and you play against a team that usually plays you so tough and you get a win like that – it’s just as good as beating anybody else in the league.”
Brugger earned the win in the circle, allowing just four hits and one run.
“Amber was awesome,” Chichilitti said. “She was in control from start to finish.
“When we got into tough situations once or twice, she came up really big.”
Walters absorbed the loss, allowing six hits and two runs (one earned).
“She threw a great game,” Chichilitti said. “She’s very good for a freshman.”
Neshaminy (10-2, 6-0 SOL) will travel to Bensalem on Tuesday, and Council Rock South (7-4, 3-3) will host Abington on Friday.

PENNSBURY 2, HARRY S TRUMAN 0
Alyssa Heilman tossed a seven-inning gem, allowing three hits while fanning 12 and walking none. The junior hurler has walked just one batter in eight-plus games.
“She pitched a great game,” coach Frank McSherry said. “She was really on today, she really hit her spots.”
The Falcons won despite collecting just two off of Truman hurler Steph Wolf, who pitched well enough to win.
“Truman’s pitcher didn’t throw real hard, so it kind of threw our kids off a little bit,” said McSherry. “The game was so fast – it was like old-time softball.”
Sophomore Allison Rose needed just one swing of the bat to put the Falcons on the board, slamming a solo home run in the fourth inning. It was the Falcons’ first hit of the day. In the fifth, Jen Brady doubled, and she scored on an errant throw by the Tigers on a bunt by Karli Haines.
Chrissie Huhn led the Tigers with a 2-for-2 effort out of the leadoff spot.
Pennsbury (9-3, 5-1 SOL) will host Bensalem on Friday, and Harry S Truman (2-9, 1-6) will host Council Rock North on Friday.

The Bucks broke a scoreless tie in the top of the fourth inning when they plated a pair of runs, benefitting from four straight singles from Angelina Sherba, Cara Hatzinger, Ella Castronuovo and Sierra Mosiniak. The Eagles – who managed just one hit off a duo of West pitchers – answered with two of their own in the bottom of the inning, but the Bucks tacked on a run in the fifth, thanks to a sacrifice fly by Sam Trafford.
In the sixth inning, the Bucks put an exclamation point on the win when Castronuovo smashed a two-run homer that plated Hatzinger, who had singled. In the seventh, Emma Dryden ripped a triple and scored the game's final run on a passed ball.
