MEN’S BASKETBALL
Freshman Damian Washington (Upper Moreland) contributed eight points, eight rebounds and two blocks in Delaware Valley University’s 58-57 loss to Wilkes on Saturday. In Wednesday’s 88-67 victory over visiting Eastern University, Washington had 15 points and seven rebounds. In Del Val’s 74-62 triumph over visiting FDU-Florham, Washington came off the bench to score 12 points. In the Aggies’ 67-63 loss to Manhattanville College, Washington had 11 points and five rebounds.
Josh McWilliams (Council Rock North) contributed 17 points and four assists in McDaniel’s 62-51 loss to Franklin & Marshall on Saturday. In Thursday’s 64-51 loss to Johns Hopkins, McWilliams led the Green Terror with 22 points and six rebounds.
Junior Evan Slone (Souderton) scored 13 points in Arcadia’s 75-62 win over Albright on Wednesday. In last Friday’s 79-75 win over Stevenson, Slone had 15 points.
Sophomore Tracy Simsick (Souderton) had a game-high 20 points, including 15 in the first half, in DeSales University’s 71-70 win over Eastern on Saturday. Steve Ciotti (Pennsbury) contributed seven points and four assists. In Wednesday’s 103-78 win over King’s College, Simsick scored a game-high 19 points, shooting 8-for-9 from the field. Freshman Mike Bealer (Souderton) added 11 points. In last Saturday’s 90-83 win over Misericordia, Simsick had 11 points. In the Bulldogs’ 72-66 loss to Wilkes, Simsick led the scoring with 20 points.
Junior guard Jimmy Murray (Plymouth Whitemarsh) scored 16 points and also had four rebounds and two assists in Moravian’s 88-72 win over Susquehanna on Saturday. In Wednesday’s 71-61 victory at Goucher College, Murray had four points, three rebounds, three assists and three steals as he returned to the lineup after missing one game.
Sophomore Riley Thompson (Council Rock North) had 14 points in Ithaca’s 99-89 loss at Hobart College on Friday. In last Saturday’s 84-71 win over Skidmore College, Thompson paced the Bombers’ offense with 24 points on 6-of-13 shooting from the floor, including 4-of-7 from 3-point range and 8-of-10 at the free throw line. All eight of Thompson’s made free throws came over the final 1:27 of regulation.
Junior Mekhi Bryant (Pennsbury) finished with a team-high 17 points off the bench as he shot 6-of-10 from the field in Holy Family’s 72-71 loss to the University of the Sciences. The Pennsbury graduate scored all 17 points in the second half, including nine in the final two minutes of play.
Senior Zach Quattro (Hatboro-Horsham) scored 10 points in Ursinus College’s 75-56 loss to Johns Hopkins on Saturday. In last Saturday’s 69-65 win over McDaniel, Quattro contributed 14 points, connecting on 7-of-11 shots from the field. In the Bears’ 75-61 win over Muhlenberg, Quattro had 12 points and nine rebounds.
Lock Haven redshirt sophomore Amir Hinton (Abington) is one of 100 players who have been placed on
the initial watch list for the 2017-18 Bevo Francis Award, an award given to the top men’s player in Small College Basketball. Hinton is the 18th Lock Haven men’s basketball player to reach the 1,000-point mark. He surpassed the mark in just 42 games, making him the fastest player in school history to reach the mark. He’s also one of the fastest in PSAC history to do so. Through 15 games, Hinton averaged 23.9 points per game, which led the PSAC and ranked sixth in Division II. He’s averaging 2.8 steals per game, which also ranks first in the PSAC and sixth in DII. He also averages 6.4 rebounds per game and 2.4 assists per game. Last season, Hinton was named the PSAC East Freshman of the Year after leading the league in scoring. This marks the third season of the Bevo Francis Award, and on Feb. 15, the next Watch List will be trimmed down to 50 players.
Hinton scored 19 points to go along with five rebounds and four assists in Lock Haven’s 91-75 loss to Kutztown on Wednesday. In last Saturday’s 86-62 win over Cheyney, Hinton recorded 19 points, four rebounds and three steals. In Lock Haven’s 66-64 loss to Millersville, Hinton netted 20 points.
Anthony Lee (Abington) had 11 points, five rebounds, five assists, two blocks and one steal in Kutztown’s 88-80 loss to Shippensburg on Saturday. Max Wagner (Pennridge) had 11 points and six rebounds. In Wednesday’s 91-75 win over Lock Haven, Lee had a game-high 26 points, his fourth highest total of the season. He connected on 5-of-7 from beyond the arc to raise his season percentage to 55.6 percent. He went 8-of-11 from the field and 5-of-6 from the free throw line while also coming one rebound shy of a double-double with nine rebounds. He also had four assists. Wagner scored a career-high 16 points and grabbed seven rebounds. In last Saturday’s 101-95 loss to East Stroudsburg, Wagner had 14 points. In KU’s 85-49 win over Cheyney, Lee led all scorers with 17 points and shot 4-of-6 from three. Wagner and Joseph O’Brien (Abington) both had six points with Wagner grabbing seven rebounds.
Matt Penecale (Abington) notched 13 points in No. 20 West Chester’s 86-78 loss to Bloomsburg on Saturday. In last Saturday’s 93-83 loss at Shippensburg, Penecale chipped in 13 points.
WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
Albright senior Alysha Lofton (Central Bucks South) was named the MAC Commonwealth Women’s
Basketball Play of the Week for the week ending Jan. 14. Lofton filled up the stat sheet by averaging 15.0 points, 7.5 rebounds, 5.0 assists, 3.5 blocks and 2.5 steals per game for the week while also shooting 58 percent (11-of-19) from the field. She came up strongest for the Lions in the 63-54 win over nationally ranked Messiah with a game-high 21 points on 8-of-12 shooting from the field and a perfect 5-for-5 from the charity stripe. Lofton also added eight rebounds, five assists and two blocks to help move the Lions into a first place tie with the Falcons. She started the week with nine points, seven rebounds, five assists, five steals and three blocks in a 64-53 road win over Lycoming. The CB South graduate now ranks third among MAC Commonwealth teams in scoring with 14.4 points per game and is tied for fourth with 3.9 assists per game. Lofton also ranks eighth in the conference in rebounding at 7.6 per game while ranking second in steals per game with 2.6 and first with 2.1 blocks per game. This is the fifth time in her Albright career that Lofton has earned player of the week honors and third time this season.
Lofton recorded a triple-double to lead Albright to a 76-61 road victory over Stevenson on Saturday. It was the team’s eighth straight win. Lofton recorded the first triple-double in recent memory for the Lions with 15 points on 5-of-10 shooting from the field, along with 11 rebounds and a career-high 10 assists. The 10 assists were the most in a game for a Lions’ player since 2011. Lofton also added five steals. In Wednesday’s 72-50 win over Arcadia, Lofton had 16 points on 6-of-11 shooting and a team-high seven rebounds. In Albright’s 67-52 win over Widener, Lofton registered 19 points on 7-of-13 shooting from the field in addition to five rebounds, five steals, four assists and two blocks. In Albright’s 79-36 win over Alvernia, Lofton recorded her third double-double of the season with 14 points on 6-of-9 shooting from the field and added 10 rebounds, four assists and four steals.
Makenzie Mason (Central Bucks West) scored on a layup with 0.6 seconds remaining to give No. 14 University of Scranton a 46-44 victory at Elizabethtown on Saturday. Mason finished with 13 points. The Lady Royals won their 13th straight game and improved to 18-1 on the season. In Wednesday’s 64-51 win at Drew University, Mason contributed 10 points, eight rebounds and two blocks. In last Saturday’s 62-50 victory over Catholic University, Mason led Scranton with a double-double on game highs of 17 points and 11 rebounds while also leading all players with four assists. In Scranton’s 98-94 overtime victory over Moravian, Mason scored a career-high 20 points to go along with four rebounds and four assists.
Junior Nicole Munger (Central Bucks West) contributed eight points, nine rebounds, six assists and three steals in No. 16 Michigan’s 80-59 win over Northwestern on Sunday. The win was the Wolverines’ sixth straight. In Tuesday’s 74-48 win over Michigan State, Munger scored 13 points. In last Saturday’s 86-42 win over Illinois, Munger contributed 14 points, five steals and three assists. In Michigan’s 84-75 win over No. 8 Ohio State, Munger scored a career-high 20 points and also had six rebounds and four assists.
Sophomore Jordan Vitelli (Central Bucks South) had 15 points – 11 in the second half – in No. 13 University of the Sciences 66-56 win over Caldwell on Saturday. It was the 12th straight win for USciences. Vitelli buried four 3-pointers to move into sole possession of 10th place in program history with 114 for her career. In last Saturday’s 63-51 win over Felician, Vitelli contributed six points and seven rebounds. Freshman Irisa Ye (North Penn) set a new career-high with five boards. In USciences 72-51 win over Holy Family, Vitelli scored 13 points. Freshman Jess Huber (North Penn) came off the bench to score six points on two 3-pointers, and Ye contributed four points. Sophomore Mikaela Giuliani (North Penn) had three assists and three rebounds.
Redshirt sophomore Alynna Williams (Plymouth Whitemarsh) had 10 points and two steals in Jefferson University’s 63-62 win over Dominican. Williams was 6-for-6 at the foul line, which included four in the last 39 seconds. In Tuesday’s 74-71 win at Chestnut Hill, redshirt junior Erin Maher (North Penn) led the Rams with 20 points behind 7-of-12 shooting, including 6-of-11 from 3-point range. Williams contributed six assists. In last Sunday’s 85-42 win over Concordia, Williams had 13 points on 5-of-9 shooting with two made 3-pointers. In Jefferson’s 92-49 win at Wilmington University, Williams went 5-of-5 from the floor, including 3-of-3 from deep for 13 points. She also had four assists and a steal. Maher scored 11 points and also had nine rebounds and a block.
Sophomore Allison Chernow (Upper Dublin) came off the bench to score 17 points in Emory’s 79-61 loss to No. 21 University of Chicago on Friday. In last Sunday’s 53-39 win at Brandeis, Chernow scored 13 points, which included three 3-point field goals and all four of her free throw attempts. In Emory’s 69-64 win at New York University, Chernow finished with 11 points.
Senior guard Vicky Tumasz (North Penn) scored 24 points in Chestnut Hill’s 80-64 win at Concordia on Saturday. The North Penn graduate had four threes (4-of-10) in a 7-for-14 (.500) shooting performance. She also hit six free throws (6-of-7, .857), recorded three rebounds, three assists and two steals. In Thursday’s 74-71 loss to Jefferson University, Tumasz had 12 points and four rebounds. In Chestnut Hill’s 80-71 win over Dominican College, Tumasz totaled 18 points, four rebounds, two assists and a steal.
Devan Rimmer (Pennridge) scored a team-high 16 points in Widener’s 64-49 loss to Lycoming on Saturday. Allison Gallagher (Souderton) had eight points and 10 rebounds. In last Saturday’s 67-52 loss to Albright, Rimmer had a team-high 14 points. In Widener’s 71-68 loss to Arcadia, Gallagher paced the Pride with 21 points and nine rebounds. Rimmer added 16 points and three assists. In Widener’s 89-83 overtime loss to Cabrini, Gallagher scored a season-high 27 points, and Rimmer added 10 points.
Sajanna Bethea (Pennsbury) contributed seven points and seven rebounds in Saint Peter’s 52-42 loss to Iona on Sunday. In Friday’s 67-47 win over Monmouth, Bethea had 10 points.
Aigner Bookard (Cheltenham) contributed 12 points and three assists in Cairn University’s 72-51 loss to Cabrini on Thursday. In last Saturday’s 66-56 win over Keystone College, Bookard had nine points and four steals.
Sophomore Taylor Dunn (Central Bucks South) posted a double-double with 17 points and 11 rebounds in Arcadia’s 71-62 loss to Stevenson last Saturday. In Arcadia’s 71-68 come-from-behind win over Widener, Dunn scored a team-high 19 points.
Senior Kaitlin Kelly (Pennsbury) scored eight points in DeSales University’s 60-33 win over Eastern University on Saturday. In the Bulldog’s 55-50 loss at King’s College on Wednesday, Kelly scored 10 points. In DeSales University’s 101-36 win over Wilkes, Kelly shared game-high scoring honors with 23 points.
Cassidy Quattro (Hatboro-Horsham) pulled down a team-high eight rebounds in Washington College’s 66-43 loss to No. 16 Muhlenberg on Saturday. In Thursday’s 64-55 win over Swarthmore, Quattro finished with 12 points and two steals. In Tuesday’s 50-41 loss to McDaniel, Quattro had six points and nine rebounds. In last Saturday’s 68-45 loss to Gettysburg, Quattro contributed 10 points and six rebounds. In Washington College’s 70-52 loss to Johns Hopkins, Quattro scored 11 points.
Senior Michael Harris (Abington) had a team-high five rebounds to go along with nine points in American University’s 67-44 victory over Colgate on Saturday. The win was the 11th straight for the Eagles. In last Saturday’s 74-67 win over Lafayette, Harris led the team on the boards with six rebounds and added two blocks.
Junior guard Deja Rawls (Abington) tallied a career-high 15 points and five steals in Siena’s 51-40 win over Fairfield on Monday.
Delaware freshman Lizzie Oleary (Abington) earned her first-ever CAA Women’s Basketball Rookie of the Week accolades for the week ending Jan. 21. The Abington graduate helped Delaware to a split, averaging 9.5 points and 4.5 rebounds per game while shooting .615 (8-for-13) from the field in two games. In Delaware’s 82-49 win at UNCW, Oleary tallied six points and two rebounds. She followed that with a season-high 13 points while tying a season-best with seven rebounds in Delaware’s loss at Elon. Oleary has appeared in all 18 games for the Blue Hens and leads the UD freshmen with 4.4 points and 2.7 rebounds per contest.
Senior Alexis Hofstaedter (Council Rock South) contributed seven assists and nine points in Holy Family’s 67-63 victory over Wilmington University on Wednesday. In last Saturday’s 69-67 win over Post, Hofstaedter contributed nine points, five boards and a game-high six assists. In Holy Family’s 72-51 loss to nationally-ranked University of the Sciences, Hofstaedter totaled nine points and four rebounds.
Sophomore Lydia Konstanzer (Pennridge) tallied her fourth double-double in as many games with 13 points and 11 rebounds in Ursinus College’s 70-51 loss to Johns Hopkins on Saturday. In Thursday’s 65-43 loss at Haverford, Konstanzer put up 12 points and 11 rebounds. In Tuesday night’s 89-55 loss to Muhlenberg, Konstanzer contributed 18 points, seven rebounds, three steals and an assist. In last Saturday’s 49-41 loss to McDaniel, Konstanzer scored all 13 of her points in the second half and collected 11 of her game-high 13 rebounds after the intermission as well. It was her sixth double-double of the year and 15th of her career. In the Bears’ 61-41 win over Bryn Mawr, Konstanzer had 12 points and 11 rebounds.
Larissa Leyes (Upper Dublin) scored 12 points in Gwynedd Mercy’s 66-52 win over Keystone on Monday night.
Taylor Thames (North Penn) tied a career high with 16 points in an efficient 27 minutes of play in Kutztown’s 67-56 win over Shippensburg on Saturday. In Wednesday’s 73-62 win over Lock Haven, Gabbi Wright (Chelltenham) racked up nine points and added one block and one steal in 22 minutes of play. In last Saturday’s 69-59 loss to East Stroudsburg, Wright scored 14 while Thames had 13. In KU’s 85-69 win over Cheyney, Thames continued her effective play since being inserted into the starting lineup, totaling 12 points on 8-of-9 shooting from the free throw line. Wright added five points.
MEN’S SWIMMING
Sophomore Ogden Leyens (Upper Dublin) had four victories in Gettysburg’s 179-82 win at Mary Washington on Saturday. The UD graduate won the 100 freestyle (48.08) and 200 freestyle (1:46.37) while also swimming on the victorious 200 medley (1:37.51) and 200 freestyle (1:28.08) relays.
Senior Jacob Schellinger (North Penn) topped the pool record in the 100 butterfly in 53.33 in Arcadia’s 225-17 win over Stevenson. Schellinger finished the 100 freestyle in 53.38 earlier in the day. Sophomore Mark Preedy (William Tennent) was a two-time winner, topping the field in the 200 freestyle (1:48.99) and the 100 freestyle (49.48). In Friday’s 120-77 loss to La Salle, Schellinger took second place in the program’s first ever 50 butterfly to set the standard at 24.70. Preedy was the top finisher in the program’s first ever 50-yard breaststroke event, finishing at 28.56. Earlier, he finished the 50 free in 22.46. In last Saturday’s first ever win in program history over Widener (168-94), Schellinger took home first place in the 200 butterfly (2:03.03) and a second place finish in the 100 butterfly (54.53). He also aided the first place 200 medley relay in claiming points. Preedy picked up 11 points as he claimed two second place finishes (100 breaststroke – 1:01.90, 100 freestyle – 49.87) and one third place (200 IM – 2:07.78). Preedy also helped earn first place points in the 400 freestyle relay.
Sophomore Daniel Powell (Central Bucks East) claimed the top position in the 1000 free with a time of 10:14.13 in Ursinus College’s 134.5-127.5 victory over Franklin & Marshall on Saturday. Junior Maxwell Coulter (Pennridge) was second in the 100 breast (1:01.58). Junior Travis Venables (Pennsbury) was fourth in the 50 free with a time of 22.04. In last Saturday’s 170-90 loss to Villanova, Powell took first in the 1000 freestyle with a time of 10:09.61, the second best time on the team this season and personal best on the year. Venables was part of the 200 medley relay that finished third with a time of 1:40.08.
Shippensburg sophomore Jeff Beyer (Wissahickon) was part of the 200 freestyle relay that posted a time of 1:29.78 and finished fifth at the 2018 Navy Invitational on Saturday.
Quinn Mitchell (North Penn) won the 3-meter diving event in West Chester’s 175-113 loss to the University of Pennsylvania on Friday. In last Saturday’s 199-98 loss to NYU, Evan Sherkness (Plymouth Whitemarsh) was part of the first place 200 medley relay that finished in 1:33.76. Michael Kane (William Tennent) was part of the fourth place 200 medley relay that posted a time of 1:36.75. Sherkness finished in a tie for fourth in the 50 freestyle with a time of 22.37. Mitchell finished fourth in the one-meter diving event with a 236.70 and third in the three-meter with 245.70.
WOMEN’S SWIMMING
Sophomore Rachel Samson (Council Rock North) posted a 1:04.61 in the 100 IM, setting the program standard in the first-ever swimming of the event in Arcadia’s 118-87 loss to La Salle on Friday. The CR North graduate also finished second in the 100 freestyle (56.67). In last Saturday’s 144-118 win over Widener, Samson claimed 12 points on the afternoon, picking up three second place finishes (200 butterfly – 2:23.34, 100 butterfly – 1:04.15, 200 IM – 2:19.60) while also picking up third place points on the 400 freestyle relay (3:59.14).
Junior Haley Sutton (Hatboro-Horsham) took first in the 100 backstroke in 59.08 and was part of the first place 200 medley relay in Towson’s 179-114 victory over Loyola Maryland on Wednesday. In last Saturday’s 184-109 win over Delaware, Sutton finished first in the 100 backstroke (28.64) and captured second in the 200 backstroke. She also was part of the winning 200 medley relay (1:47.82).
Eve Kosten (North Penn) was part of the first place 200 medley relay team that posted a time of 1:45.13 in the University of Buffalo’s 198-102 victory over Miami (OH) last Saturday. The North Penn graduate was also part of the second place 400 free relay.
Sophomore Margrethe Leis (Springfield Township) took second in the 1000 free with a time of 11:19.97 in Ursinus College’s 173-89 win over Franklin & Marshall on Saturday. Freshman Katelyn Moore (Hatboro-Horsham) finished third in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:12.14. In last Saturday’s 178-81 loss to Villanova, freshman Rebecca Warren (Council Rock North) finished second in the 1000 freestyle with a time of 11:11.01.
Freshman Lizzie Nadolski (Springfield Township) finished first in the 100 free with a time of 58.83 in La Salle’s 106-80 win over Mount St. Mary’s (Md.) on Saturday. In Friday night’s 118-87 win over Arcadia, Nadolski finished first in the 50 fly with a time of 28.17 seconds. At the Penn State Diving Invite this weekend, Sydney Szopo (Upper Moreland) took first place in the three-meter with a score of 247.15. In last Saturday’s tri-meet with Richmond and Fordham, junior Olivia DiStefano (North Penn) finished second in the 100 back (57.03) and fourth in the 100 free (54.09). She also was part of two fourth place relay teams. Szopo placed second in the one-meter dive and fourth in the three-meter dive. In La Salle’s 164-136 loss to Loyola (Md.), DiStefano touched the wall first in the 100 free (53.84), 100 back (57.69) and 50 free (24.74). Szopo swept the diving events, scoring 241.80 in the three-meter and a 253.58 in the one-meter.
Sammy Grogan (Council Rock North) finished first in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:35.07 in Widener’s 148-118 loss to Ramapo on Saturday. In last Saturday’s 144-118 loss to Arcadia, Grogan finished first in the 200 breast with a time of 2:33.89.
Senior Bridget Perdoch (Pennsbury) finished atop the podium in the 100 breast with a time of 1:11.06, an existing PSAC mark, in Kutztown’s tri-meet with Millersville and LIU Post. The Pennsbury graduate followed that with another existing PSAC time in a fast 200 breast field, claiming third with a time of 2:37.41.
Freshman Jenna Fox (Council Rock South) was third in the 500 free with a time of 5:17.96 in West Chester’s 169-22 loss to the University of Pennsylvania on Friday. Lizzy Miller (Neshaminy) was part of the first place 200 medley relay. In last Saturday’s 183-115 win over NYU, Miller was part of the winning 200 medley relay that posted a time of 1:47.51. Sarah Fisher (Plymouth Whitemarsh) was part of the third place 200 medley relay that finished in 1:52.52. Emma O’Neill (Abington) finished third in the 1000 freestyle with a time of 10:39.45.
Freshman Leah Barrett (Council Rock South) was part of the 200 freestyle relay that placed second with a time of 1:43.73 in Millersville’s tri-meet with Kutztown and LIU Post on Saturday. In Friday’s 125-79 loss to East Stroudsburg, Barrett claimed second in the 50 freestyle with a time of 25.63.
MEN’S INDOOR TRACK
Elizabethtown senior Mitch Schlegel (Souderton) was the 200-meter runner-up with a time of 23.47 at Haverford’s Seamus McElligott Invitational on Saturday. He also was part of the second place 4×400 relay that finished in 3:34.93 and finished fourth in the 400 with a time of 53.84. At the Coach I Open held at Franklin & Marshall, Schlegel, the school record holder in the 200m, ran a 23.21 to finish fourth. He also finished ninth in the 60m (7.31).
Saint Joseph’s freshman Matthew Scarpill (Central Bucks South) improved upon his mile time, clocking in at 4:17.63, 7.90 seconds faster than his collegiate debut performance, to place fourth in a field of 20 milers at the 2018 Penn State National Open this weekend. At the 2018 Monmouth Winter Collegiate Invitational this weekend, sophomore David Bryant (Upper Dublin) totaled a team-best nine points to lead St. Joseph’s squad to a second place team finish in a field of three teams. The UD graduate placed fourth in a field of 25 in the 60m (7.17) and fourth in a field of 24 in the 200m (23.68). Both performances stood as the third fastest finishes by a collegiate racer.
Ursinus freshman Griffin McMann (Pennridge) added over seven feet to his personal best in the weight throw with a toss of 35-10 at Lehigh’s John Covert Classic on Saturday. At last Saturday’s Collegeville Classic, McMann finished second in the shot put with a 46-8.25.
Shippensburg freshman Austin Howell (Pennridge) posted a PSAC qualifying time of 51.52 in the 400 meters at the 20th Annual Bison Open on Saturday.
Gwynedd Mercy sophomore Joe McCoy (Neshaminy) was eighth in both the long jump (6.40 meters) and triple jump (13.16 meters) at the Ramapo College Season Opener held at the New York Armory last weekend.
La Salle graduate student Fran Ferruzzi (Upper Dublin) finished 10th in the 3000m race with a time of 8:35.04 at the Penn State National Invitational this weekend.
Widener freshman Sean Mazlin (Council Rock North) was part of the 4x200m relay that finished first with a time of 1:34.01 at the Seamus McElligott Invitational on Saturday. In addition, Mazlin finished third in the 60m, clocking in at 7.46. Matt Ludlow (Pennridge) jumped 6.29 meters and finished second in the long jump.
Kutztown freshman Cameron Christopher (Wissahickon) finished sixth in the 800m in a field of 34 runners at the Bison Open at Bucknell University on Saturday. He clocked in at 2:00.28, the second best time of the season for KU. In the 400m, Jhaloni Johnson (Springfield Township) won his heat and finished in sixth place overall. His time was 51.15 seconds, an existing PSAC time. Freshman Tommy Oliver (Bensalem) finished in eighth place in the heptathlon with a season-best 3,891 points. He finished seventh in the 60m hurdles, eighth in the 1000m and 11th in the pole vault. On Friday, Johnson finished fourth in the 200m, an event with more than 85 entrants and 20 heats. Cameron was part of the DMR team that finished in second place that finished in 10:28.88, less than a second from 10th in school history. Obi Ogbonna (Harry S Truman) qualified for the finals of the 60m hurdles. His prelim time of 8.72 seconds was his best of the night as he finished in eighth place. In last weekend’s NYC Gotham Cup, both Anthony Bullaro (Pennsbury) and Ogbonna recorded postseason qualifying marks in the 60m hurdle prelims with times of 8.69 an d8.74 respectively.
Bloomsburg sophomore Mathew Hart (Pennsbury) posted qualifying marks in both the shot put and the weight throw at Bucknell’s 20th annual Bison Open on Saturday. Hart finished second overall in the shot put with a season-best mark of 14.64 meters. The mark places him seventh in the conference this season. The Pennsbury graduate finished sixth in the weight throw with a distance of 15.52 meters. He currently holds the sixth best mark in the conference. Austin Kline (Central Bucks West) placed second in the 500m run with a time of 1:07.85 while James Wilson (Central Bucks South) was ninth in the same event after posting a time of 1:09.54. Wilson and Kline were part of the distance medley relay that posted a time of 10:43.31 to finish third. In the 60m hurdles, Alex Moran (Pennridge) missed the PSAC standard by one-hundredth of a second as he finished in 12th place during prelims with a time of 8.96 seconds. At last weekend’s Keydet Invitational hosted by VMI, Kline posted a qualifying mark as he won his section in the 400m dash and finished 14th overall with a time of 50.93. Wilson finished second in his section and also placed 14th overall in the 800m run with a time of 1:59.74 to qualify for the conference meet next month. Wilson and Kline were part of the fifth place DMR relay that posted a time of 10:39.61.
WOMEN’S INDOOR TRACK & FIELD
Ursinus freshman Rachel Coleman (Wissahickon) placed 15th in the 400m dash with a time of 1:03.18 at Lehigh’s John Covert Classic on Saturday. In last Saturday’s Collegeville Classic, junior Riley Engel (Council Rock North) was part of the distance medley relay that finished third with a time of 13:44.85. Freshman twins Michela Coleman (Wissahickon) and Rachel Coleman (Wissahickon) gave the Bears a pair of strong performances in the 200m dash. Michela Coleman shaved .04 seconds off her season low to snag eighth place in 27.94, and Rachel Coleman was right behind in 28.04. Rachel Coleman also had a personal best 8.38 in the 60m dash prelims to qualify for the afternoon finals where she took ninth at 8.46.
Shippensburg junior Jackie Kinkead (Central Bucks East) posted a PSAC qualifying time in the 5K of 18:39.79 at the 20th Annual Bison Open on Friday.
Kutztown sophomore Olivia Morano (Quakertown) posted a PSAC qualifying mark of 12.99 meters in the weight throw on Saturday at the Bison Open at Bucknell. On Friday, Stephanie Bresadola (North Penn) set a new PSAC qualifying mark in the 500m run with a time of 18:15.79. At last weekend’s NYC Gotham Cup, Bresadola set a new qualifying mark in the 300m dash with a fourth place finish at 10:25.49.
West Chester junior Allison King (North Penn) posted a time of 8.10 to finish sixth in the 60m dash at Lehigh University’s Covert Classic on Saturday. Courtney Taylor (Central Bucks South) finished 11th with a time of 8.21 while Cara Jackson (Souderton) finished 12th with a time of 8.25. In the 60m hurdles, Caroline DiJosia (Plymouth Whitemarsh) finished 21st with a time of 10.43. Marissa Johnson (Council Rock South) finished seventh in the pole vault with a mark of 9-6 ¼. Emily Yemm (Council Rock South) finished eighth in the triple jump with a distance of 34-9. At last weekend’s Gotham Cup, Jackson finished 29th in the 200 meters with a time of 27.01.
Bloomsburg freshman Kathleen Stevenson (North Penn) finished ninth in the long jump with a mark of 4.99 meters at the 20th annual Bison Open on Saturday. She finished 21st overall with a time of 26.97 in the 200m dash. Jessica Brenfleck (North Penn) finished 38th with a time of 27.73.
Monmouth junior Allison Taub (Council Rock South) won the shot put with a mark of 44’7” to qualify for the ECAC Championships at the Monmouth Winter Collegiate Invitational on Saturday. At last weekend’s NYC Gotham Cup, Taub placed second in the shot put with a mark of 14.07 meters (46’2”).
Duquesne junior Shannon Taub (Council Rock South) finished fourth in the high jump (1.65m) at the Penn State National Invitational on Saturday. At last weekend’s Youngstown State College Invitational, Taub finished fourth in the high jump (1.65m).
WRESTLING
Philip Torresani (Hatboro-Horsham) edged Lenny Ogozalek 2-1 on a riding time point at 125 in Elizabethtown’s 29-19 win over Gettysburg.
Sophomore Colin Devlin (Upper Dublin) stormed back from an 8-0 deficit to pull off an improbable 9-8 victory at 149 in Gettysburg’s 19-18 win over Washington and Lee on Saturday. In Gettysburg’s 22-13 win over Johns Hopkins later in the day Saturday, Devlin earned a major win at 149 (11-3). In Thursday’s 30-7 win over McDaniel College, Devlin earned a pin at 149 pounds. After falling behind 2-0 to DeAndre Tackett, Devlin ended the period with a takedown and near fall to jump in front. He ended the match in the second period with a takedown to set up his fifth pin of the season at 4:31.
Mikey O’Brien (North Penn) earned a 7-2 decision at 157 in Kutztown’s 22-14 win over UNC Pembroke on Saturday at the Second Annual KU Duals. The North Penn graduate also earned a 4-1 decision in KU’s 31-16 win over Minot State. In last Saturday’s 19-17 win over Gannon, Jeff Reimel (North Penn) notched an 11-3 major decision at 184. Both Reimel and O’Brien were ranked in the top seven of Super Region I in their respective weight classes with Reimel ranked third at 184 and O’Brien ranked seventh.
Bruce Graeber (Neshaminy) racked up six minutes of riding time in his 6-2 decision at 285 in Bloomsburg’s 29-13 win over Sacred Heart.
East Stroudsburg sophomore Francesco Palagruto (Plymouth Whitemarsh) picked up a pair of wins at the Kutztown Duals on Friday, earning a 6-1 decision at 141 in ESU’s 19-18 loss to Millersville. In ESU’s 22-18 win over Minot State, Palagruto notched an 8-2 decision.
