MEN’S CROSS COUNTRY
Penn State Abington sophomore Ben Hoyer (Wissahickon) earned a first place finish at the annual Abington Invitational on Saturday, shaving nine seconds off his previous personal best to earn a 28:24 finish. In last Saturday’s Stephen Warde Invitational, Hoyer finished seventh out of 96 runners with a time of 28:17.

Holy Family University sophomore Sean Rahill (William Tennent) was selected to the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Weekly Honor Roll for the week ending Sept. 8. Rahill and the Tigers opened the 2019 season at the 41st annual Philadelphia Metropolitan Invitational. Rahill was the team’s top finisher as he placed 12th overall after completing the 8K course in a time of 28:33.0.
After placing third at the 2019 Monmouth Kick-Off Invitational, St. Joseph’s junior Matthew Scarpill (Central Bucks South) was selected the Atlantic 10 Co-Performer of the Week for the week ending Sept. 8. Scarpill led the way for the Crimson and Gray in the SR/JR race with a third place finish in 18:56.2 (PR).
Scarpill finished sixth with a time of 26:01.7 at the 2019 George Mason Invitational on Friday. In the 2019 Monmouth Kick-Off Invitational, Scarpill placed third with a personal best 18:56.2 and sophomore Ben Bunch (Central Bucks West) was seventh with a time of 19:33.2 (PR).
Messiah freshman Josiah Moyer (Souderton) finished the 5K course at the Hood Invitational Friday in 13th place with a time of 16:37.1 on Friday. At the LVC Dutchmen Invite, Moyer finished 18th overall with a time of 27:41.60.
Ursinus senior Daniel Powell (Central Bucks East) placed ninth with a time of 29:37.2 at the Penn State Abington Invitational on Saturday. Ursinus won the team title.
Gwynedd Mercy freshman Thomas Balla (Bensalem) posted a time of 32.52.3 at the Philadelphia Metropolitan Invitational on Saturday.
Bloomsburg redshirt junior Declan McDonald (Central Bucks West) finished 17th with a time of 21:05 at the annual Husky Invitational last Saturday. Justin Ziegler (Souderton) placed 27th with a time of 22:55.

Bucknell sophomore Olivia Dyer (North Penn) finished 13th at the Harry Lang Invite hosted by Colgate.
Holy Family sophomore Victoria Reid (Bensalem) finished 48th overall with a time of 23:34.0 at the 41st annual Philadelphia Metropolitan Invitational, topping her time of 23:51.5 of last year.
Ursinus freshman Amanda Choi (Plymouth Whitemarsh) finished 19th with a time of 24:56.4 at the Penn State Abington Invitational on Saturday.
Bloomsburg junior Jessica Brenfleck (North Penn) was 17th crossing the line at 17:13 at the annual Husky Invitational last Saturday.
Gwynedd Mercy sophomore Emily Stewart (Upper Dublin) was named to the Atlantic East Conference honor roll for the week ending Sept. 1. The UD graduate took top Griffin honors at the Bryn Mawr College Invitational with a 5K time of 24:36.17. Gwynedd was seventh as a team while Stewart placed 50th.
West Chester senior Tara McLaughlin (North Penn) finished 17th with a time of 23:54 at the Division II/III Challenge on Saturday. In last Saturday’s Philadelphia Metropolitan Championships, McLaughlin finished second out of 105 runners in the 5K race with a time of 20:20.
FIELD HOCKEY
Senior back Christen Pennington (Neshaminy) scored off a penalty corner to knot the score 3-3 in Villanova’s 5-3 loss to Monmouth last Sunday.
Junior goalkeeper Brynne Schoppe (North Penn) recorded four saves in Albright’s 2-1 win over Moravian on Saturday. In Wednesday’s 2-1 loss to York, Schoppe was credited with seven saves in 60 minutes of action.
Freshman Cailey Lever (Central Bucks East) notched her first collegiate goal in Drexel’s 4-3 double overtime loss to Indiana University.
Junior Anna Lehman (Council Rock North) scored 2:30 into the contest in Lehigh University’s 4-2 loss to Richmond on Friday.
Freshman midfielder Kennedy Reardon (Plymouth Whitemarsh) scored her first career goal in an Indiana uniform in IU’s 4-3 double overtime win over Drexel.
Jess Dixon (Plymouth Whitemarsh) opened the scoring three minutes into the game with a goal in Delaware Valley University’s 7-0 win over Bryn Athyn on Friday.
Erin Saybolt (Souderton) scored a goal and teammate Anna Hall (Central Bucks West) had an assist in Ursinus College’s 4-0 win at William Smith.
Caitlyn Thornton (Council Rock South) knocked in the game-winning goal with under a minute to play in Gwynedd Mercy’s 2-1 victory over Scranton.
Freshman Samie Hackman (Pennsbury) scored the first goal of her collegiate career in La Salle’s 3-2 win over LIU on Sunday. In La Salle’s 6-0 win over Wagner last Sunday, freshman Casey Reilly (Central Bucks South) scored her first collegiate goal to close out the first half, giving the Explorers a 5-0 lead.
Freshman Megan Weeks (Central Bucks South) scored her first career goal in Lock Haven’s 3-2 double overtime loss to Cornell last Sunday.
Sophomore defender Juliana Borisow (Souderton) contributed her first career goal in No. 7 Kutztown’s 6-0 win over Southern Connecticut State.
FOOTBALL
Junior Reece Udinski (North Penn) had 38 completions for 281 yards and two touchdowns on 64 attempts with no interceptions in VMI’s 31-24 overtime victory over East Tennessee State University on Saturday. In VMI’s 63-21 victory over Mars Hill, Udinski completed 17 of 29 passes for 264 yards and four touchdowns.
Branden Mack (Cheltenham) had three receptions for 17 yards in Temple’s 20-17 upset of No. 21 Maryland on Saturday.
Thomas Garlick (Quakertown) completed 11 of 24 passes for 126 yards and two touchdowns in Ursinus College’s 48-10 win over Gettysbury on Saturday. He also rushed 10 times for 40 yards and a score. In the Bears’ 22-10 win over Bethany, Garlick threw for 183 yards and two touchdowns. Zach Gravelle (Quakertown) had 49 receiving yards. Senior Stacey Gardner (Upper Dublin) – a converted running back – caught a 22-yard touchdown pass. Jack Spingler (Neshaminy) had 1.5 sacks.
Senior quarterback Michael Marino (Wissahickon) was 11-of-22 for 115 yards and a pair of touchdowns in Chestnut Hill’s 19-6 win over Post University in Saturday’s Collegiate Sprint Football League season opener.
Freshman Lucas Roselli (Upper Dublin) had a 14-yard touchdown reception in Albright’s 56-15 loss to No. 1 Mary Hardin-Baylor on Saturday. In Albright’s 63-28 loss to Salisbury, sophomore Malik Bootman (Upper Dublin) caught four passes for 23 yards and one touchdown and also rushed for 23 yards.
Sophomore running back Malcolm Carey (Bensalem) went over 100 yards for the second time this season in Alvernia’s 35-28 loss to the University of New England on Saturday. The Bensalem grad finished with 175 yards and three touchdowns. In Alvernia’s 20-14 win over Gallaudet, Carey scored a touchdown on a 35-yard rush on the third play of the game. Carey led Alvernia’s offensive efforts on the ground with 105 yards and two touchdowns.
Redshirt freshman Anthony Kwiatanowski (Hatboro-Horsham) recorded a career high eight tackles to lead the Red Raiders and Eric Dzieniszewski (Quakertown) recorded a sack in Shippenburg’s 54-19 loss to No. 11 Slippery Rock on Saturday.
Sterlen Barr (Upper Moreland) returned an interception 61 yards for a score in No. 19 West Chester’s 48-14 win over Gannon on Saturday. He also had three tackles and three passes defended. Jackson Taylor (Abington) also had an interception. In last Saturday’s 14-7 win over Bentley, Jackson had eight tackles.
Darryle Davis-McNeil (Abington) had a one-yard touchdown run in Kutztown’s 54-16 win over Assumption last Saturday. The redshirt freshman had nine carries for 55 yards.
KJ Cartwright (North Penn) had a 59-yard touchdown run in Millersville’s 21-20 win over Pace.
MEN’S GOLF
Temple junior Dawson Anders (Souderton) shot one-under 70, and his four-over 217 tied for 14th overall at the Cornell Invitational. Anders shot a five-over 147 on day one and was tied for 20th overall. Earlier this summer, Anders became the first Owl golfer in five years to qualify for the US Amateur when he shot a six-under 138 at the 6,939-yard, par-72 Cedarbrook Country Club. Coming off a 12th place showing at the four-day Eastern Amateur, Anders carded rounds of 70 and 68, including three-under on his final nine holes to earn one of two qualifying sports in the field of 71 players. The Souderton grad made 11 birdies over the 36 holes, including seven on his final round. Anders played on one of the top courses in the country for the first time when the US Amateur was held at Pinehurst Country Club.
IUP freshman Colin Walsh (William Tennent) shot a 2-over 74 and went into the clubhouse in fourth place after the opening round of Clarion University’s Hal Hansen Invitational. Walsh finished tied for 25th at 12-over.
La Salle junior David Kim (Upper Dublin) led the Explorers after he carded a 74 and 73 in rounds one and two of the Doc Gimler hosted by St John’s. He is tied for 35th overall at 147 (+7).

Sophomore Billy Hanratty (William Tennent) was fouled in the box and then converted a penalty kick in Albright’s 2-1 win over Wilson Phoenix on Saturday. In Albright’s 4-1 loss to New Jersey City, Hanratty scored his team’s only goal.
Cameron Sheva (Pennridge) scored the go-ahead goal in the 66th minute of Elizabethtown’s 3-1 win over Lebanon Valley on Saturday.
Sebastian Krysztofowicz (Central Bucks East) scored his team’s lone goal in Penn State Abington’s 2-1 loss to Lancaster Bible on Friday.
Kevin Bowers (Council Rock South) netted his first goal of the season with just over 25 minutes to play in Gwynedd Mercy’s 2-1 loss to Widener on Saturday.

Senior Katelyn Gilinger (Springfield Township) tallied a goal and an assist in Cabrini’s 6-0 win over Rosemont College. Senior Marissa Portelli (Hatboro-Horsham) also scored a goal, and Kim Benge (Upper Moreland) combined with Ashley Tutzauer for four saves in goal.
Kristin Wilkinson (North Penn) contributed an assist in Elizabethtown’s 1-1 tie with Franklin & Marshall on Tuesday.
Liz Farwell (Central Bucks East) stopped six shots in Widener’s 2-1 win over DeSales. In Widener’s 2-1 win over Immaculata, Farwell had four stops to notch her first collegiate win.

Junior Hannah Zach (Central Bucks East) dribbled past two defenders to score her third goal of the season in 13th-ranked West Chester’s 4-1 win over Shepherd University on Saturday. In Wednesday’s 3-0 win over Mansfield, sophomore Dani Cady (Pennsbury) struck a shot off the left post from the right side of the 18-yard box that found the net for the first goal of the game. In West Chester’s 4-0 win over Holy Family, Zach finished the game with two goals and an assist. West Chester coach Betty Ann Kempf Townsley referred to her performance as the “Zach Attack” of the game.
After shutting out Temple and Fordham on the road, Lehigh University junior Miranda Royds (Hatboro-Horsham) was named Patriot League Goalkeeper of the Week for the week ending Sept. 8. Royds posted her second and third shutouts of the season, stopping all 10 shots sent her way in 220 minutes of action with both games going to double overtime. The Hatboro-Horsham grad has allowed just five goals in 630:55 minutes of action. Royds began the week with six saves at Temple, including a couple of impressive diving stops, one in the first half and another in the second of a game that ended in a scoreless tie. In a scoreless tie with Fordham, she had four saves, three in the first half and a key second-half stop off a corner. For the season, Royds owns an impressive 0.71 goals against average and 86.8 save percentage.
Junior Shannon McGuinn (William Tennent) posted a natural hat trick in Alegheny’s 4-1 win at Pitt-Bradford. The Tennent grad scored the first three goals of the match, each coming off an assist from a different player.
Freshman Allie Trick (Souderton) scored a goal in DeSales University’s 3-2 win over York College on Saturday. In Tuesday’s 3-2 win over Immaculata, Trick tallied a goal.
Junior Maddie Elwell (Wissahickon) took a corner kick that set up a goal in ninth-ranked Vanderbilt’s 3-2 victory over Marshall last Sunday. The Wissahickon alum has started all seven games for the 7-0 Commodores and has a team-high six assists.

Junior Steph Judkins (Pennridge) had a double-double with 13 kills and 11 digs to go with a team-high four service aces in Cabrini’s 3-2 loss to Messiah on Saturday. Sophomore Hannah Dalton (Abington) chipped in with 11 kills, three block assists and a pair of service aces. In Cabrini’s 3-0 loss to No. 2 Calvin later in the day, Judkins had eight kills. In Friday’s 3-0 loss to Christopher Newport, Judkins led the Cavaliers with 16 kills. Prior to Tuesday’s match against Stockton, Judkins was honored for becoming the sixth player in program history to record 1,000 career kills in Cabrini’s win over Washington & Jefferson. After Cabrini’s 3-0 loss to Stockton, Judkins moved into third place on the program’s all-time list with 1,063 kills, just 80 kills shy of the program record of 1,143. In Cabrini’s 3-0 win over Hunter College on the final day of the Fords Invitational at Haverford, Judkins paired 14 kills and 10 digs. In Cabrini’s 3-0 win over St. Mary’s, Judkins had 15 kills and three service aces. In the Cavaliers 3-2 loss to Haverford in the nightcap, Judkins paced the Blue and White with a match-high 21 kills and 15 digs.
Freshman Jenny McAnaney (Upper Dublin) had seven kills in Penn State Abington’s 3-1 loss to Rutgers-Camden on Wednesday. In the Nittany Lions’ 3-2 victory over Gwynedd Mercy, McAnaney had 11 kills.
Gwynedd Mercy sophomore Bridget McTamney (Plymouth Whitemarsh) was named the Atlantic East Specialty Player of the Week for the week ending Sept. 8. The PW grad, a setter, put together a stat-filled week in four matches. She recorded three double-doubles highlighted by a 37-asssist, 15-dig performance against King’s. The sophomore finished the week with 102 assists, 43 digs and 10 service aces while adding 10 kills.
Gwynedd Mercy junior Madelyn Mosser (Pennridge) was named to the Atlantic East Conference honor roll for the week ending Sept. 1. The Pennridge graduate finished the week with 26 kills, 19 digs, six blocks and four service aces while accumulating 33.5 points for the Griffins. The team went 1-1 in its season-opening tri-match at FDU-Florham. Against the hosts, Mosser recorded a double-double (10 kills, 14 digs). In the match with Rutgers-Newark, the junior tabbed a career-high 16 kills in the win.
Mosser had six kills in Gwynedd Mercy’s 3-0 loss to Cedar Crest on Thursday. In Gwynedd’s 3-0 win over Delaware Valley, McTamney had 23 assists, 13 digs and five aces. Cait Saalfrank (Pennridge) had a team-high 14 digs. In Gwynedd’s 3-1 loss to King’s, Mosser had a team-high 11 kills and three service aces. McTamney notched her fifth straight double-double with 37 assists and 15 digs and also had one ace and a solo block. Saalfrank totaled a second-best program record of 43 digs. She holds the mark of 44, which she set last season. In Gwynedd’s 3-2 loss to Penn State Abington, Mosser had a career-high 18 kills while McTamney had 32 assists and 14 digs. In the Griffins’ 3-0 sweep of Rosemont, Saalfrank had a career high eight aces. McTamney had 10 assists and 10 digs, and Mosser had six kills.
Junior Allison Laucella (Hatboro-Horsham) contributed 10 digs in La Salle’s 3-0 win over Binghamton.
Holly Owen (Hatboro-Horsham) had a career high 22 kills in Kutztown’s 3-2 win over Goldey-Beacom Saturday. Earlier in the day, Owen had 11 kills and 10 digs in Kutztown’s 3-0 win over Salem. The H-H graduate surpassed 100 kills on the year in the victory and hit .345 for the match on 29 attempts. In Friday’s 3-1 loss to Notre Dame (Ohio), Owen had a season high 20 kills to go along with six digs. In KU’s 3-0 sweep of Saint Michael’s, Owen had 16 kills and no errors on 28 attempts (.571). She is averaging 4.65 kills per set over Kutztown’s first 17 sets and is hitting .306. In KU’s 3-0 win over Bowie State, Owen had 13 kills. In Kutztown’s 3-0 win over Roberts Wesleyan, Owen led the Golden Bears with 14 kills. In KU’s opening day split at the Shippensburg Raider Classic, KU defeated Chestnut Hill 3-1 but fell to Walsh by that score. Owen totaled 36 kills during the day, including 19 in the loss to Walsh.
Sophomore Bryn Stek (Upper Dublin) had 14 assists in Bloomsburg’s 3-1 victory over Post University on Sunday. In the Huskies 3-1 loss to Saint Anselm, Stek had 16 assists. In Saturday’s 3-2 win over Felician, sophomore Sydney Buell (Pennsbury) had six kills, four service aces and four assisted blocks. Stek had 19 assists. In a 3-2 loss to Southern Connecticut, Buell posted a team high 14 kills and hit .297 for the match. Stek led Bloomsburg with 18 assists and six digs. In the Huskies 3-1 loss to Notre Dame College, Stek had 10 assists and 10 digs. In Bloomsburg’s 3-1 loss to Ashland, Stek had 11 assists and 10 digs. In Bloomsburg’s 33-0 loss to Fairmont State, Buell posted seven kills and a pair of service aces, and Stek had a team high four aces to go along with 12 assists and nine digs. In Bloomsburg’s 3-2 win over Felician, Buell led the Huskies with 20 kills, eight digs, one solo block and four assisted blocks for a match high 24 points. The 20 kills are the third most in a single match in the program’s abbreviated history. Stek recorded her first double-double with 19 assists and 12 digs.
