BASEBALL
The Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) announced its conference awards for baseball for the week ending Feb. 23, and Arcadia University swept both MAC
Commonwealth weekly awards. Nick Fossile (Bensalem) was named Pitcher of the Week, and Justin Massielo (Pennsbury) garnered Player of the Week honors. Fossile took the mound in game two of a doubleheader at Marymount for his second start of the season and
turned in another scoreless outing, this time tossing five shutout innings and scattering five hits while striking out a season-high eight in the Knights’ 7-5 victory. Through two starts this season, Fossile has thrown nine consecutive shutout innings, allowing seven hits while striking out 11 against two walks.
Massielo turned in a big weekend at the plate for the Knights in a 2-1 weekend, batting .636 (7-11) on the road trip with a pair of home runs and a double for a 1.273 slugging percentage. The freshman went 5-for-8 at the plate in the doubleheader at Marymount – including a 4-for-4 showing in game two with a double, home run and two runs scored. Massielo then launched his second career homer Sunday at No. 14 Johns Hopkins with a solo shot to left center.
Freshman Ryan Rieber (Central Bucks South) pitched two scoreless innings of relief in DeSales University’s 7-6 loss in nine innings to Eastern Mennonite University in game two of a doubleheader split.
Ben Spadea (Pennsbury) tossed a one-two-three inning with one strikeout in Cairn University’s 5-3 win over Wesley College.
TJ Brasier (Harry S Truman) had two hits and a run scored in Gwynedd Mercy’s 10-5 loss to Johns Hopkins on Tuesday. In the Griffins’ 6-4 loss to Muhlenberg, Brasier hit a solo home run. Will Brownlowe (Wissahickon) had an RBI and two of Gwynedd’s eight hits. In Gwynedd’s 40-7 win over Gallaudet, Anthony Tomasetti (Plymouth Whitemarsh) drove in six runs, going 4-for-6 with five runs scored and three doubles. In the Griffins’ 5-2 win over Stevenson University, Brownlowe recorded a pair of hits and added an RBI. Billy Collins (North Penn) drove in a run.
Mike Christy (North Penn) was 2-for-4 with a double, two RBIs and two runs scored in Elizabethtown’s 12-1 win over Wilkes on Sunday.
Freshman Jordan Morales (Souderton) combined with sophomore Manny Corporan for a four-hit shutout in La Salle’s 2-0 win over Hofstra on Sunday. Morales struck out two and allowed just one hit in two scoreless innings to earn the save.
Junior captain Billy Bethel (Pennsbury) threw six innings and earned the win on the mound in Chestnut Hill’s 10-4 win over Bentley in game one of a doubleheader split Saturday.
Senior Tyler Guidos (Quakertown) threw three scoreless frames out of the bullpen and tallied four strikeouts in East Stroudsburg’s 9-1 win over Jefferson University in game one of a doubleheader sweep.
Junior shortstop Justin Horn (Upper Dublin) hit a grand slam in West Chester’s 21-5 win over Saint Rose. His seven RBI performance in the win tied West Chester’s program record for most RBIs in a game. Horn now shares the record with Drew Pare (2008) and Mark Gilliford (2007).
MEN’S BASKETBALL
Delaware Valley University junior forward Damian Washington (Upper Moreland) was named to the All-Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC)
Freedom second team for the second time in as many years. He finished his junior season with career-highs of 19 points per game, 39 assists, 24 blocked shots, 7.7 rebounds per game, a 47.5 field goal percentage, and 34 minutes played per game. He also recorded 23 steals and went 32-for-98 (32.7 percent) from 3-point land. The forward had milestone games with a career-high 44 points at home against FDU-Florham, the second highest single-game total in program history, and he recorded his 1,000th career point at home against Misericordia. He is now 15th all-time in points scored with 1,086 for his career. Among all players in the MAC Freedom, Washington ranked second in points per game, fourth in rebounding, sixth in blocked shots and fifth in minutes per game. In 13 league games, he averaged 18.7 points and 7.8 rebounds with a 35 percent mark from beyond the arc.
Washington had 16 points, nine rebounds and three assists in Delaware Valley’s 76-68 loss to DeSales University last Saturday. In Delaware Valley’s 83-68 win over Wilkes University, Washington had 16 points and grabbed a team-high five rebounds with three steals and two blocked shots.
Senior Riley Thompson (Council Rock North) netted 12 of his 19 points in the extra period in Ithaca College’s 80-69 overtime win over Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in the Liberty League championship game Sunday. Thompson drilled back-to-back 3-pointers to start the extra session and then iced the contest with six free throws. He went 4-for-9 from the field and was 9-for-10 at the line. With the win, which extends Ithaca’s winning streak to 13 games, Ithaca improves to 23-5 on the season and will earn the Liberty League’s automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. In Saturday’s 80-72 semifinal win over Hobart College, Thompson finished with 14 points and six rebounds.
Junior Billy Warren (Pennsbury) anchored the defensive effort with a career high five blocked shots in Cabrini’s 97-94 win over Immaculata.
West Chester freshman guard Robbie Heath (Abington) was named the PSAC East Defensive Athlete of the Week for the week ending Feb. 23.
He has won a PSAC weekly award four times this season but this is his first defensive athlete of the week recognition. The Abington graduate averaged 25 points across two victories. He grabbed 14 rebounds and recorded four steals in the wins while making 16-of-19 free throws. He played 69 total minutes in the two wins.
He was named PSAC East Division Athlete of the Week for the week ending Feb. 16. It is the third time he received the honor. Heath scored 50 points in West Chester’s 100-97 win over Bloomsburg. He is the first West Chester player to reach the 50-point mark in a game since 1952 and first PSAC player since 2004-05. Only 16 PSAC players in history have ever scored more than 50. No other freshman across any level of NCAA basketball has scored 50 points in a game this season. Heath also had a game-high nine rebounds. In 33 minutes, he made 21-of-23 free throws, 12-of-26 field goals and 5-of-11 3-pointers. At Shepherd, Heath had a game-high 28 points to go along with eight rebounds. He tied a season high with six 3-pointers.
Heath scored 39 points in West Chester’s 103-87 loss to East Stroudsburg on Saturday, bringing his season total to 659, which is a West Chester men’s basketball single-season record. The previous record was 640 set by Ramzee Stanton in 2003-04. Heath’s total breaks the PSAC freshman record of 642 set by Lock Haven’s Amir Hinton – also an Abington grad – in 2016-17. Heath leads the PSAC and ranks eighth in Division II men’s basketball at 24.4 points per game. He added 10 rebounds and six assists in the loss. It was his fourth double-double of the season. He leads the team and is ninth in the PSAC at 7.5 rebounds on average this year. In Wednesday’s 85-69 win over Millersville, Heath had a game-high 26 points and also grabbed 13 rebounds. In West Chester’s 98-83 win over Lock Haven, Heath finished with 31 points, nine rebounds, five assists and three steals. He made 10-of-11 free throws and only turned the ball over once in 32 minutes on the court. In the Golden Rams’ 85-82 win at Kutztown, Heath had 19 points in a team-high 37 minutes.
Senior Tracy Simsick (Souderton) scored 10 points and junior Mike Bealer (Souderton) had nine points on three 3s in DeSales University’s 75-63 loss to Eastern University in the semifinals of the MAC Tournament on Wednesday.
Shane Ford (Wissahickon) topped his career-high effort by netting 15 points off the bench in Gwynedd Mercy’s 91-88 loss to Wesley in the Atlantic East Tournament title game on Saturday.
Sophomore guard Trevonn Pitts (Cheltenham) scored 15 of his 21 points in the second half of Chestnut Hill’s 93-82 win over the University of the Sciences on Saturday. He also had 11 rebounds for his second career double-double and recorded four assists, two blocks and two steals. In Chestnut Hill’s 113-62 setback to No. 10 Thomas Jefferson, Pitts led the Scarlet and Gold with 14 points, three rebounds and a pair of assists. In Chestnut Hill’s 110-101 loss to Goldey-Beacom, Pitts finished with 20 points, which included a 7-for-7 effort from the field and 5-for-5 free throws. He also recorded four rebounds, three assists and a block.
Redshirt junior Max Wagner (Pennridge) recorded his second consecutive double-double – fourth overall – as he poured in 21 points and grabbed 13 rebounds in Bloomsburg’s 83-71 win over Kutztown on Wednesday. In last Saturday’s 78-73 upset of No. 24 Shippensburg, Wagner had a game-high 22 points and 12 rebounds. In the Huskies’ 87-76 loss to Lock Haven, Wagner added 11 points.
WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
Sophomore Taylor O’Brien (Plymouth Whitemarsh) scored eight points in Bucknell’s 55-53 win over Boston University on Saturday. It was Bucknell’s seventh consecutive victory. In Wednesday’s 76-65 win over Colgate, which clinched the Patriot League’s fourth regular season title in five years, O’Brien scored 10 points. In Bucknell’s 63-45 win over Holy Cross, O’Brien had eight points, three assists and three steals.
Lauren Fortescue (Plymouth Whitemarsh) contributed 14 points and six rebounds in Salisbury’s 76-63 loss to top-seeded Christopher Newport in the semifinal round of the Capital Athletic Conference Tournament on Wednesday.
University of the Sciences junior Irisa Ye (North Penn) was named the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Player of the Week for the week ending Feb. 16. It is the third time this season she has received the award (Jan. 6 and Jan. 20) after a week that saw her put up averages
of 22.5 points, 6.0 rebounds and 5.0 assists in just 18.0 minutes per game. She shot 83.3 percent (15-of-18) from the floor and made 14-of-16 free throws (87.5 percent) while turning the ball over just once in 36 minutes. It is the junior’s fourth career CACC Player of the Week nod as well as her fifth weekly honor from the league this season (two-time Defensive Player of the Week). Ye led the way with career-highs of 34 points and nine rebounds as well as five assists and three steals in just 21 minutes in the Devils’ win at Georgian Court. She made 11-of-12 field goals and 12-of-14 foul shots. The North Penn grad was in double figures with 11 points to go along with five assists in just 15 minutes of USciences’ victory at Felician.
Ye repeated as Academic All-District as voted by the College Sports Information Directors of American (CoSIDA). The 2019-20 Academic All-District teams recognize the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom. Ye currently boasts a 3.93 grade point average (GPA) as a Biomedical Science major, having earned Dean’s List honors in each of her first five semesters with her first 4.0 GPA semester in Fall 2019. In addition to being a 2018-19 Academic All-District Team member, she is a 2019 Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area honoree and a 2018-19 CACC All-Academic League selection. On the court this season, Ye is second in the CACC in scoring at 18.4 points per game. She is also fourth in field goal percentage (52.2) and free throw percentage (82.6), fifth in assist/turnover ratio (1.4), ninth in assists per game (3.2) and 10th in steals per game (1.8).
Ye scored a game-high 28 points in University of the Sciences 61-53 win over Chestnut Hill on Saturday, an offensive performance that moved her into 10th on the program’s all-time scoring list with 1,298 career points. She also moved into 10th on the program’s single-season scoring list, ending the afternoon with 520 points on the year, while her 199 field goals made this season are now fourth all time. Ye made a career-best 5-of-10 3-pointers as well as 7-of-8 foul shots while also leading all players with four steals. Jordan Vitelli (Central Bucks South) was also in double figures with 12 points. In last Saturday’s 80-51 Senior Day win over Wilmington, Vitelli made three 3-pointers to break her own single season program record set in 2017-18, ending the afternoon with 78 on the year. Mikaela Giuliani (North Penn) became the sixth student-athlete in program history to reach 100 career blocks as she led all players with six rejections with her 42 this year now ranking 10th in the program’s single season annals. Giuliani also tied a career-best with a game-high seven assists while falling one rebound shy of a career-best with nine. Ye also had 17 points, which included a career-best 4-of-7 from beyond the arc. With her five field goals, Ye moved into seventh in the program’s single season history with 191 on the year. Jess Huber (North Penn) was in double figures with 11 points while Vitelli made it five Devils in double figures with 10. In USciences 74-53 victory over Holy Family, Vitelli and Ye combined for 48 points with Vitelli pouring in a game and season-high 26 – one shy of her career best – on 9-of-13 shooting in 28 minutes. The performance moved Vitelli into sixth in program history as she ended the night with 1,365 career points. Ye finished with 22 points to go along with team-highs of five rebounds and three assists.
Senior Allison Chernow (Upper Dublin) contributed 11 points and six rebounds off the bench in Emory University’s 88-84 win at Case Western
Reserve last Sunday. In Emory’s 66-53 win over Carnegie Mellon, Chernow had 10 points in a team-high 22 minutes off the bench, going a perfect 4-for-4 from the floor and 2-for-2 from distance.
Chernow has been selected to the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) 18th annual “So You Want to be a Coach” program. Chernow is one of 62 women’s basketball players throughout the country who will participate in the three-day workshop with speakers provided by WeCOACH on April 2-4 in conjunction with the WBCA Convention in New Orleans. The objective of the program is to increase the understanding and application of skills necessary to secure coaching positions in women’s basketball, increase the understanding and awareness of competencies necessary for success in coaching, introduce female basketball players to coaches and administrators and raise awareness of the existing talent pool of female basketball players who have a passion and interest in coaching the game of women’s basketball. A four-year member of the Eagles program, Chernow has appeared in 95 contests, 58 as a starter, and ranks 16th on the school’s all-time scoring list with 878 points. A 2018-19 All-University Athletic Association second team honoree, she has produced 41 double-figure scoring performances during her collegiate tenure and is tied for the No. 6 spot on Emory’s career chart with 121 3-point field goals.
Freshman Kassondra Brown (Abington) scored 13 points and pulled down five rebounds in the University of Rhode Island’s 69-67 win over St. Bonaventure. She was a perfect 6-for-6 from the field and 1-for-1 at the free throw line.
Redshirt sophomore Ashley Jones (Cheltenham) had a team-high 20 points and also dished out six assists in Temple’s 68-64 loss to Tulsa on Saturday. In Wednesday’s 67-64 loss to UCF, Jones contributed 16 points. In last Saturday’s 56-50 loss to East Carolina, Jones led Temple with 14 points and five assists. In the Owls’ 78-64 win over Memphis, Jones had 21 points and nine assists.
Junior Bridget Birkhead (Central Bucks East) scored 12 points, connecting on 5-of-6 shots including a pair of 3s, in Mount St. Mary’s 66-55 win over St. Francis (Pa.) on Saturday. She also had three rebounds. The junior sharpshooter is now in the top two in 3-point shooting percentage in the NEC at 41 percent. The win was the ninth straight for the Mount in the NEC where they boast a 13-2 record. Next up is a home game against Robert Morris that will decide the regular season champion. In last Sunday’s 62-53 win over Merrimack, Birkhead contributed nine points, three rebounds and one assist. In last Saturday’s 62-59 win over Robert Morris, Birkhead had seven points – including a 3, two assists and one rebound. In the Mount’s 67-52 win over Wagner, Birkhead connected on a pair of 3-pointers and also had three rebounds, two assists, one block and a steal.
Samantha Brusha (Abington) scored 12 points in Millersville’s 85-71 loss to West Chester Wednesday. The Abington grad went 3-of-6 from the field, 2-of-2 from beyond the arc and 4-of-4 from the free throw line. In Millersville’s 96-62 loss to Shepherd, Mia Leonard (Cheltenham) reached double digits with 11 points. She led the defensive effort with two blocks. Five of her eight rebounds were defensive. Leonard now has recorded nine double-digit games.
Junior Lexi Edwards (Central Bucks South) netted 15 points in Cabrini’s 67-49 loss to Marymount in the Atlantic East Conference championship on Saturday. In Wednesday’s 93-87 win over Gwynedd Mercy, Edwards scored a season high 24 points. In last Saturday’s 61-58 loss to Immaculata, freshman Miranda Liebtag (Abington) had seven points in 14 minutes. In Cabrini’s 84-49 victory over Wesley College, Edwards tallied 19 points and four steals on an efficient 8-of-13 from the field.
Sophomore Emma Stanfield (William Tennent) shared the team lead with 13 points in DeSales University’s 87-34 win over Delaware Valley University in its regular season finale last Saturday.
Sophomore forward Bri Hewlett (North Penn) scored 11 points in Chestnut Hill’s 61-53 loss to No. 16 University of the Sciences on Saturday. In Chestnut Hill’s 64-54 win over Goldey-Beacom, Hewlett scored 12 points off the bench in an efficient 6-of-7 (.857) performance.
University of Scranton senior Makenzie Mason (Central Bucks West) was named to the 2019-20 College Sports Information Directors of
America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District First Team. The CB West graduate boasts a 3.32 GPA as an occupational therapy major. On the court, Mason leads the team in scoring at 13.5 points per game and became the 30th player in program history to score 1,000 career points earlier this season.
Mason recorded her third straight double-double in No. 14 University of Scranton’s 63-42 win over Catholic to capture the program’s fifth straight Landmark Conference Championship on Saturday. Mason was named Landmark Conference Tournament MVP after registering 21 points and 12 rebounds in the win. In Wednesday’s 74-63 semifinal victory over Moravian, Mason had 22 points on 9-of-14 shooting and 10 rebounds to lead the way. In last Saturday’s 64-37 win over Goucher, Mason had 13 points and 10 rebounds. In Scranton’s 59-40 victory over Drew, Mason had 14 points on 7-of-13 shooting.
Jefferson University senior Alynna Williams (Plymouth Whitemarsh) was named the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Player of the Week for the week ending Feb. 23. Williams led her squad with 24.0 points per game and added 2.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.0 steal in helping Jefferson extend its season-long win streak to seven games and lock up a playoff spot. She shot 44.4 percent (16-36) from the field. Williams led all scorers with 30 – 28 in the second half – as she helped the Rams erase an 18-point third quarter deficit for the win against Georgian Court. The senior had a team-high 18 points at Chestnut Hill.
Jefferson University freshman Haley Meinel (Central Bucks West) was named CACC Defensive Player of the Week for the week ending Feb. 23. Meinel totaled seven steals, seven blocks and four defensive rebounds over two games. She helped the Rams hold Chestnut Hill to 34.5 percent shooting. The rookie tied her season highs with five steals and four blocks against Georgian Court, aiding Jefferson in erasing an 18-point third quarter deficit for the win. Meinel also averaged 15.5 points on 41.7 percent shooting, tying her season high with 20 points against Georgian Court.
Williams scored 32 points for her fourth 30-point effort of the season in Jefferson University’s 72-59 Senior Day win over Holy Family on Saturday. The PW grad shot 13-of-25, 6-of-12 from three. Williams moved into second place in program history with 233 three-pointers and is just six behind all-time leader Rachel Day (239). Meinel added 18 points, seven steals and five assists. Junior Sabria Lytes (Harry S Truman) grabbed six rebounds. In Wednesday’s 79-52 win over Goldey-Beacom, Williams finished with a game-high 28 points on 11-of-21 shooting, 4-of-9 from three. Meinel recorded 15 points and a season-high eight steals. She was 6-for-11 from the field. Lytes had six rebounds. In Jefferson’s 51-49 win over Chestnut Hill, Williams led the way with 18 points, and Lytes finished with 17 points, seven rebounds and two blocks. Meinel tallied 11 points, five rebounds, three assists, three blocks and two steals. In Jefferson’s 82-76 win over Georgian Court, Williams led all scorers with 30 points. She made five 3-pointers and added four assists. Meinel tied her season high with 20 points and five steals, four blocks, three assists and two rebounds. Lytes finished with 11 points, seven boards and three steals.
Freshman Alexa Brodie (Central Bucks South) had 10 points in Colgate’s 80-69 victory over Holy Cross last Saturday. In Colgate’s 82-73 road victory over Lehigh, Brodie tallied 10 points.
Gwynedd Mercy freshman Haley Crossley (William Tennent) earned a spot on the Atlantic East Women’s Honor Roll for the week ending Feb. 17. Crossley scored 15 points and pulled down seven rebounds in the Griffins’ win over Neumann. The rookie also registered seven points, seven boards and three steals at Marymount. She finished the week with 22 points, 14 rebounds and four steals while shooting 10-of-11 from the free throw line.
Crossley had 13 points and 11 rebounds in Gwynedd Mercy’s 93-87 loss at Cabrini in the semifinals of the Atlantic East Basketball Tournament on Wednesday. In Monday’s quarterfinal 97-81 win over Neumann, Tamia Wessels (Abington) poured in 20 points and Crossley added 13 points. In Gwynedd Mercy’s 85-60 victory over Wesley, Wessels had eight points, eight steals, four assists and four boards. In the Griffins’ 95-83 win over Immaculata, Crossley had her first career double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Wessels added 11 points.
Cassidy Quattro (Hatboro-Horsham) had a team-high eight rebounds Washington College’s 68-48 loss to McDaniel.
Arcadia University senior Taylor Dunn (Central Bucks South) was named to the All-Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Commonwealth first
team for the second time in as many years. Dunn started all 25 games, averaging a team-high 38.2 minutes. She led Arcadia in scoring, averaging 17.7 points a game to go along with 4.9 rebounds. She also had a team-high 52 steals.
Dunn capped her career with eight points and three rebounds in Arcadia’s 54-42 loss to Lebanon Valley last Saturday. In Arcadia’s 73-50 loss to Widener, Dunn turned in her third straight and 11th overall game of 20-plus points, netting a game-high 24 on 9-of-16 shooting – including a perfect 5-for-5 from beyond the arc in the fourth quarter – to lead the Knights.
Lydia Konstanzer (Pennridge) had 18 points and eight rebounds in Ursinus College’s 67-55 loss to Franklin & Marshall in last Saturday’s season finale.
Widener senior Devan Rimmer (Pennridge) earned first team All-MAC Commonwealth Conference honors for the second straight year after averaging 17.6 points per game, ranking fifth in the conference and connecting on 41.7 percent of her 3-point attempts, leading the league and sitting 20th nationally. She moved into third place on Widener’s career scoring list with 1,610 points and is also third with 172 treys made. She scored 20 or more points 10 times this season.
Rimmer netted 16 points in Widener’s 73-50 win over Arcadia.
MEN’S LACROSSE
Princeton senior Michael Sowers (Upper Dublin) was named the Ivy League Player of the Week for the second straight week to start the season. Sowers had a seven-goal, 15-assist week as the Tigers defeated Colgate and Virginia. In addition, he was also named the US Lacrosse National Player of the Week. The Tewaaraton Award finalist a year ago had three goals and 11 assists against Colgate, setting the Ivy League record for points in a game and the Princeton record for assists in a game. He followed that with four goals and four assists in the win over Virginia. Sowers, who entered his senior year having already set the Princeton career scoring record, now sits ninth all time in Division I history in assists with 172 and 18th in Division I history with 288 points. Sowers is currently second in DI history in points per game at 6.4, trailing only Tony Asterino (6.47 per game at Siena, 1978-81).
Sowers had two goals and seven assists in Princeton’s 18-11 win over Johns Hopkins in the 90th meeting between the long-time rivals in front of 1,815 fans Saturday. Sowers finished a four-game February with 42 points. With his nine-point day, Sowers moved past Kevin Lowe as Princeton’s career leader in assists. His 179 now rank him eighth in NCAA Division I history. With his nine points, he now has 297 career points, leaving him in 16th place all time.
Junior Nick Werner (Central Bucks West) was credited with four ground balls in No. 3 Cabrini’s 16-5 win over No. 15 Dickinson on Saturday.
Sophomore Matt Halteman (Souderton) had two caused turnovers in Delaware Valley University’s 12-8 win over visiting Neumann on Wednesday.
Jakob Phaup (Souderton) dominated on the x in No. 5 Syracuse’s 9-7 win over No. 7 Army last Sunday to move to 3-0 on the season for the first time since 2016. Phaup set a new career high by winning 16-of-19 face-offs for the Orange.

Evan Scott (Upper Dublin) scored a goal in No. 9 Ursinus College’s 12-10 win over Eastern University.
John McCreary (Central Bucks West) scored four goals in Gwynedd Mercy’s 19-0 win over Bryn Athyn on Tuesday. Lucas Gray (Harry S Truman) and Ryan Gartenmayer (Council Rock South) each added a goal. In the Griffins’ 8-3 win over Chatham, McCreary scored one goal. In Gwynedd’s 13-3 victory over Westminster College at the Three Rivers Classic, McCreary tallied three goals and Gartenmayer added a pair. Gartenmayer and McCreary each had a caused turnover.
WOMEN’S LACROSSE
Junior Kate Ziegler (Pennridge) scored the 100th goal of her career in Elizabethtown’s 14-5 win over Hood on Saturday. She scored the milestone goal with one second left on the clock in the first half, sending Elizabethtown into halftime with a 7-2 lead. She finished the game with three goals and two assists.
Freshman Alexa Machado (Pennridge) stepped up in the net in Ursinus College’s 12-11 loss to Rowan on Wednesday. The freshman goalkeeper came up with big saves in the second half which included five saves on free position shots. Machado and the Bears held the Profs to just 2-for-10 in free position chances. In the Bears’ 12-5 loss to Cabrini, Machado tallied 14 saves on 26 shots faced. Hannah Reape (Upper Dublin) scored one goal.
Jen Rodzewich (Pennridge) scored a goal in Temple’s 16-9 win over La Salle on Tuesday.
Michelle Dyck (North Penn) recorded a pair of saves in the second half to close out No. 12 East Stroudsburg’s 20-5 victory over Gannon on Sunday.
Senior Mikki Raymond (Abington) had one goal and junior Jordan Campbell (Abington) had two caused turnovers in La Salle’s 12-5 win over Radford on Saturday.
Gwynedd Mercy junior Victoria Braeunle (North Penn) was named to the Atlantic East Conference Honor Roll for the week ending Feb. 23. Braeunle totaled nine points on seven goals and two assists while adding 16 ground balls, nine caused turnovers and five draw controls. The junior started off the season opener against King’s with four goals and a helper with five ground balls and five draws. She followed that with a career-high 11 ground balls and six caused turnovers at Wilkes along with four points (three goals/one assist).
Braeunle netted three goals and Jessica Ziegler (Souderton) added one in Gwynedd Mercy’s 12-10 win over Goucher on Saturday. Braeunle notched a personal milestone as her second goal of the day – at the 3:08 mark of the first half – gave her 200 career points. The junior become the fourth player in program history to eclipse the mark. In Gwynedd’s 18-2 victory at Delaware Valley, Braeunle had six points on three goals and three assists. In the Griffins’ 12-11 loss to Willkes last Saturday, Braeunle had three goals and an assist and Ziegler had one goal. In Gwynedd’s 14-13 loss to King’s, Braeunle had four goals and Ziegler added a single goal.
Krysta Reading (Central Bucks South) scored four goals in Lock Haven’s 15-10 win over Georgian Court on Friday. Shannen Roy (Central Bucks West) forced a turnover to help preserve the win. She also had two ground balls.

Freshman Tori Caputo (Quakertown) made her first collegiate start and allowed only one hit in three innings of work in Elizabethtown’s 18-0 win over Northern Vermont-Johnson in Clermont, Fla., on Saturday. Caputo struck out five without allowing a walk.
Spenser Gray (Quakertown) was 3-for-3 with four runs scored in UNC-Charlotte’s 10-2 win over Winthrop. In the 49ers 4-3 win over Campbell, Gray was 2-for-5 with a run, RBI and two walks.
Senior Meghan Klee (Quakertown) was 3-for-5 with a double, triple and two walks in Shippensburg’s sweep of Alderson Broaddus (10-2) and Glenville State on Saturday.
Freshman Lex Ortman (Central Bucks South) had a pair of hits and an RBI in La Salle’s 16-2 loss to Northern Colorado at the Lobo Classic in Albuquerque on Saturday. Later in the day, Ortman had a pair of hits and scored a run in the Explorers 13-5 loss to New Mexico. In Friday’s 11-6 loss to New Mexico, sophomore Natalie Rios (Neshaminy) notched a pair of hits.

IUP sophomore Ryan Hartmann (North Penn) touched the wall in the fourth place in the 200 IM with a time of 1:51.91 at the PSAC Championships.
Shippensburg senior Jeff Beyer (Wissahickon) placed sixth in the mile with a time of 16:21.20 at the 2020 PSAC Championships. It is his fourth career scoring performance in the 1,650-yard freestyle, accompanying a fourth place finish as a freshman and third place finishes in each of the last two years. Beyer made his fourth championships final in the 500 freestyle and posted his third career top five finish, placing fifth with a time of 4:40.73. Beyer finished third last season, second as a sophomore and seventh as a freshman. The North Penn grad placed seventh in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:43.84. He reached the ‘A’ final on the strength of a 1:43.56 prelim time. It is Beyer’s highest place finish in the 200 free and his fourth career scoring effort. He placed eighth each of the last two years after a 16th place swim as a freshman. In the 1000 freestyle, Beyer finished seventh with a time of 9:42.50. It is his fourth career top 10 finish in the event, including runner-up finishes in 2018 and 2019. Beyer finished his Raider tenure as a 16-time PSAC place winner, scoring in every single one of his individual swims in his career at the PSAC Championships. That includes six career All-PSAC classifications.
La Salle freshman Sam Henninger (Abington) tallied 185.30 point to claim third place in the 1-meter diving at the Atlantic-10 Championships. On the 3-meter board, Henninger placed fifth with a score of 295.75. Jake Kramer (Souderton) finished 11th in the 1650 free with a time of 15:53.23.
Penn State junior Bryce Hoch (North Penn) had a top 25 finish in the platform dive with a score of 230.80 at the Big Ten Championships on Saturday. On Friday, Brad Johnson (Central Bucks West) posted a final time of 53.19 that won the bonus final (17th) and moved him to the No. 3 spot on the Penn State all-time list. Hoch led Penn State divers with a score of 252.25 in the 3-meter prelims. On Thursday, Johnson was part of the eighth place 400 medley relay that posted a time of 3:09.61. On Wednesday, Johnson competed on the 200 medley relay that placed fifth with a time of 1:25.35, which ranks as the third fastest time in school history.
Freshman Tyler Hall (North Penn) was part of West Chester’s silver medal 400 freestyle relay that posted a time of 3:03.52 at the PSAC Championships. He also was part of the third place 200 free relay with a finish time of 1:22.23 as well as the second place 200 medley that finished with a time of 1:31.04.
Bloomsburg senior Corey Smith (North Penn) placed third in the ‘B’ final of the 200 backstroke – 11th overall – with a time of 1:55.51 at the 2020 PSAC Championships.

Shippensburg sophomore Natalie Wiley (Bensalem) scored in the 100 breaststroke for the second straight year at the 2020 PSAC Championships, posting a time of 1:08.71 in the ‘C’ final after swimming 1:08.45 in the morning. Wiley scored out of the ‘C’ final in the 200 breaststroke for the second straight year, finishing 21st in 2:32.87.
La Salle sophomore Phoebe Shaya (Council Rock South) earned a bronze medal on the 3-meter board with a score of 277.25 points at the A-10 Championships on Friday. On the 1-meter board, Shaya recorded a score of 250.90 and finished fourth. The sophomore will advance to the NCAA Regional Diving Championships March 3-5.
Penn State freshman Abbie Amdor (Upper Dublin) posted a time of 49.78 in the 100 free and placed 15th in the B finals at the Big Ten Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships. She also was part of the sixth place 400 free relay, the sixth place 200 freestyle relay (1:30.23) as well as the 400 medley relay that finished seventh and posted a school record time of 3:33.26. She also was part of the 800 free relay that dropped nearly eight seconds from their previous season-best times.
West Chester junior captain Jenna Fox (Council Rock South) took sixth in the 200 free in 1:55.05 at the PSAC Championships. The Rock South graduate also finished third in the 1000 free with a new lifetime best time of 10:17.22.
MEN’S TRACK & FIELD
Holy Family junior MJ Powlowicz (Harry S Truman) recorded a personal best time of 1:10.08 to finish 10th overall in the 500-meters at the annual East Coast Conference (ECC) Indoor Track & Field Championships. Powlowicz also competed in the 1,000 meters and finished ninth overall in a time of 2:50.73 Senior Ryan Merriman (Pennsbury) set a new personal best in the 800 meters as he finished seventh overall with a time of 2:05.82.
Messiah freshman Josiah Moyer (Souderton) competed in the 5,000 meter at the Middle Atlantic Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships on Friday, finishing the race in 11th place in a time of 16:06.55.
Ursinus junior Griffin McMann (Pennridge) won the weight throw while setting the championship meet record on the first day of the Centennial Conference Indoor Championships with a throw of 46-1.50, which was more than a foot clear of the runner-up.
Shippensburg University redshirt sophomore Shamar Jenkins (Souderton) was named the PSAC Men’s Indoor Track Athlete of the Week for the week ending Feb. 16. At the 2020 VMI Indoor Classic, Jenkins improved his season best in the triple jump with a second place, NCAA provisional qualifier of 48 feet, 4 inches. The mark now ranks second in the PSAC and 19th nationally.
Widener junior Matt Ludlow (Pennridge) placed third in the 200 meters with a run of 22.76 seconds at the MAC Championships on Saturday. Andrew Crosby (Cheltenham) was part of the third place 4×800 relay that posted a time of 8:08.05. On Friday, Ludlow placed fourth in the long jump with a leap of 6.75 meters, and he finished sixth in the 60 meters after running a 7.121. The Pennridge alum finished sixth in the 60 meters after running a 7.121. Crosby was part of the 4000m DMR relay that brought home fifth with a time of 10:39.30. At the Keogh Invitational, Ludlow took first in the triple jump with a distance of 12.25 meters and finished second in the 60 meters with a time of 7.17.
Kutztown University junior Tommy Oliver (Bensalem) cleared a personal best mark of 1.97m (6-5.50) in the high jump, which ranks ninth in program history, at the 2020 PSAC Indoor Championships Saturday. He also earned a second place finish in the shot put at 10.73m (35-2.50). George Weems (Upper Dublin) placed second in the 200m in a time of 21.88 to qualify for Sunday’s final. At Kutztown’s Last Chance Qualifier last weekend, freshman Harley Cheatham (Bensalem) moved into a tie for seventh on KU’s indoor high jump top 10 at the Fastrack National Invitational, capturing his fourth straight win in the event with a clearance of 6’5.50” (1.97m). Senior Ryan Benner (Pennridge) qualified for the 55-meter final and placed fourth in 6.86. Oliver was fourth in the 55m hurdles with a time of 8.44.

Elizabeth Morris (Central Bucks East) tallied points for Duquesne at the Atlantic 10 Indoor Track & Field Championship on Saturday, crossing the finish line in the 5,000m run in 17:23.13, good for seventh place.
Julia Geisheimer (Neshaminy) was part of Messiah’s 4x200m relay team that won gold on day one of the MAC Indoor Track and Field Championships on Friday, posting a time of 1:46.81. At the Kutztown Last Chance Qualifier, Geisheimer finished fourth in the 200m dash with a time of 27.70.
Rachel Coleman (Wissahickon) was part of Ursinus College’s first place 4x200m relay that posted a time of 1:47.80 on day one of the Centennial Conference Indoor Championships. Michela Coleman (Wissahickon) was part of the sixth place distance medley relay team that finished with a time of 12:46.16.
Shippensburg senior Jordan Higgins (Hatboro-Horsham) had a hurdles PR of 9.18 seconds to qualify for the finals at the 2020 PSAC Indoor Track & Field Championships. On Friday, Higgins ran the 60m hurdles for the first time in three years and proceeded to destroy her PR in the event, posting times of 9.31 and 9.32 seconds that move her all the way up to sixth on the conference leader board.
Widener sophomore Grace Murphy (Upper Dublin) finished fourth with a time of 11:34.36 in the 3000 meters at the Keogh Invitational at Haverford College.
West Chester senior Tara McLaughlin (North Penn) claimed eighth place in the 5000m with a time of 18:43.64 at the 2020 PSAC Indoor Championships on Saturday.
Bloomsburg junior Jessica Brenfleck (North Penn) was part of the eighth place 4x400m relay posted a season-best time of 4:03.93 at the 2020 PSAC Indoor Championships. The North Penn grad finished seventh overall in the long jump with a distance of 5.46 meters. She also finished 19th in the prelims of the 60-meter dash with a time of 8.06. At the Bucknell Tune-up last weekend, Stevenson earned a pair of PSAC marks. She took sixth overall in the 200-meter dash with a time of 26.49 and third in the long jump as she hit 5.45 meters to finish third.
East Stroudsburg senior Barbara Grossov (Quakertown) notched a PR with a toss of 41-5 ¼ to earn a fourth place finish in the shot put at the 2020 PSAC Indoor Championships on Sunday. The throw moved her to sixth on ESU’s top 10. The Quakertown grad also set a PR in the weight throw with a toss of 47-3 ½ as she moved into ESU’s all-time top 10 in the event.
WRESTLING
Western New England University freshman Corey Cope (Quakertown) picked up two wins in the 133-pound weight class at the New England Wrestling Association (NEWA) Futures Tournament. Cope secured a 16-0 technical fall win over Shawn Farrell of Bridgewater State and followed that up with a 20-2 technical fall win over Daijhawn Hudson of New England College.
