COUNCIL ROCK SOUTH 8, NEW HOPE-SOLEBURY 5
Holy Family commit Rianna Shields scored four goals, one of four different players to score in Friday’s season opener for the Golden Hawks.
“It was a good first game win,” said South coach Madison Hurwitz.
Junior Cailey Hiscox added a pair of goals while Grace Franchini and Meg Rafter each added single goals.
Hurwitz lauded the strong play of her entire defensive unit comprised of Karissa Smedley, Amy Loving, Emma Franchini, Lauren Smith and Montanna Chambers as well as goalie Sophia Kutsaya.
“They were incredible,” Hurwitz said. “They’re the reason we won.”
For the Lions, five different players – Rylie Hepp, Ella Brennan, Madie Thistlewaite, Lilly Smith and Rachel Saxton – each scored a goal.
“It was good defense on both ends with lots of turnovers on both sides,” NHS coach Betsy Dougherty said. “It was Windy City!”
Council Rock South (1-0) will travel to William Tennent on Wednesday, and New Hope-Solebury (0-1) will host Neshaminy on Tuesday.

WISSAHICKON 16, CENTRAL BUCKS EAST 6
The visiting Trojans overcame the elements to earn the impressive win in Friday’s opener.
“Today at CB East was a windy one with benches falling over and trash cans rolling,” Trojans’ coach Jamie Kane said. “The game still went on though. It was helpful when the wind was at your back, that’s for sure.”
Abby DeGroat, one of four captains, turned in an all-around strong performance with three goals, two assists and five draw controls.
“Abby had an excellent game, making good decisions on attack and defense and taking the draws,” Kane said.
Captain Sophia Chiodo Ortiz and junior attacker Emma Baker both scored five goals and added an assist. Captain Quinn Gaffey had five draw controls and also contributed two goals and an assist. Freshman Nora Ryan closed out the scoring with a single goal.
Madeline Murphy earned the win in goal for the Trojans, recording seven saves and also coming up with a pair of interceptions.
For the Patriots, Courtney Curry connected for a hat trick while Paige Keller had a goal and an assist. Morgan Tait and Abby Durr each added single goals.
Wissahickon (1-0) will host Pennridge on Monday, and Central Bucks East (0-1) will host Villa Joseph Marie on Wednesday.
SPRINGFIELD TOWNSHIP 14, CENTRAL BUCKS WEST 4
Senior Maddie Yoder and Lauren Corrado were a winning combination for the Spartans. Yoder was the catalyst on offense, scoring six goals and assisting on one, while Corrado assisted on seven goals and scored once. It added up to an impressive win for the Spartans on Friday.
Springfield set the tone for the win early, scoring a pair of goals in the opening minute.
“Maddie Yoder and Ella Marino in the midfield controlled the draw and the game for quite a while,” Springfield coach Marissa Conover said. “They had a great connection with Lauren Corrado on attack who received and set them back up for shots on net.
“Molly McGoldrick and Kendall Donnelly were brick walls on defense that never allowed anyone into the eight. I am very pleased with our transitions and our connections on the field.”
Also for the Spartans, Marino added a hat trick while Stella Nelson and Emma Yoder both had two goals. Assisting on one goal each were Fiona Rizzo and Shannon Meder.
Freshman goalie Tess Talbot was credited with seven saves in a winning effort for the Spartans.
“The majority of her saves were on great shots from skilled upperclassmen,” Conover said. “Tess’s talent was the backbone of our team.”
Springfield Township (1-0) will travel to Council Rock North on Wednesday, and Central Bucks West (0-1) will host Springfield-Delco on Thursday at 7 p.m.
ACADEMY OF THE NEW CHURCH 12, LOWER MORELAND 7
Paige Malpezzi scored four goals while teammate Ofek Gur added a pair for the visiting Lions, who fell to ANC in Friday’s opener. Loren Bowles added a single goal to close out the scoring for the Lions.
Lower Moreland (0-1) will host Upper Moreland on Wednesday.
STRATH HAVEN 20, PLYMOUTH WHITEMARSH 8
Max Leszczynski scored five goals for the visiting Colonials, and teammates Raya Gauntlett, Brianna Austin and Lauren Ianello each added single goals.
Strath Haven opened up a 12-5 lead on its way to the win.
Plymouth Whitemarsh (0-1) will travel to Downingtown East for a non-league game on Tuesday.

RADNOR 19, UPPER DUBLIN 3
The Flying Cardinals suffered a tough opening day loss to a very strong Radnor squad.
Scoring for the Flying Cardinals was freshman Aditi Foster with a pair of goals and junior Tess Reardon with one goal. Senior Jenn McCarry had two assists.
“We will rebound and get ready for our game on Monday against another Central League opponent, Haverford,” UD coach Dee Cross said.
Sheila Esgro’s six-goal effort led Radnor.
Upper Dublin (0-1) will host Haverford in a non-league game Monday at 3:30 p.m.
