PENNSBURY 4, NESHAMINY 2 (8 innings)
It’s always a battle when these neighboring rivals meet on the softball diamond. Take the game to Bristol Memorial Field for night game as part of the annual Bristol Softball Night doubleheader, and chances are the game will be an instant classic. It certainly was on Monday night when the Falcons eked out a win in extra innings.
“This was a typical Pennsbury-Neshaminy softball game,” Pennsbury coach Frank McSherry said. “We’ve seen a million games like this.”
The two teams spent the first seven innings exchanging home runs. Rowan Mulholland’s solo shot in the first inning spotted the Falcons the early lead. In the third inning, the Redskins evened the score when Kylie Siwek hit a solo home run.
In the top of the sixth, the Falcons took a 2-1 lead when freshman Sammy Raub hit it out of the park.
“She hit the scoreboard in center field – it was unbelievable,” McSherry said. “After striking out the first two times.”
With one out in the seventh, Kennedie Ruth smacked a solo shot to center field.
“It was very dramatic,” McSherry said. “Quinny McGonigle went back to the fence, had it in her glove, hit the fence and it dropped over. It was an unbelievable game.”
In the top of the eighth, Raub was a one-out base runner when she was hit by a pitch, and she scored the go-ahead run when Mulholland delivered a double. The Falcons led 4-2 after Emma Hause hit a sacrifice fly.
The Redskins didn’t go down quietly in the bottom of the eighth. Sophomore Lindsey Gorka hit a two-out double, bringing the tying run to the plate, but Ainsley McClure put the finishing touches on the big win by retiring the next batter she faced.
McClure allowed six hits and two runs in the complete game win, striking out nine and walking one.
Ruth was equally impressive, allowing just five hits while striking out 10 and walking three.
If there was a defensive play of the game, it might well have been a catch by Taylor Askey in the sixth inning.
“Taylor Askey made a diving catch in right field,” McSherry said. “It ended up being foul, but she came out of nowhere. That was against (Kylee) Jones, so that was really big to keep her off the bases. It was an ESPN play.”
For the Falcons, Mulholland had two hits – a double and home run.
Gorka reached base on all four trips to the plate, finishing the game 3-for-3 with a walk to lead the Redskins.
Pennsbury (14-1, 6-0 SOL) will host Council Rock South on Wednesday, and Neshaminy (11-4, 5-2) will host Harry S Truman on Wednesday.

CENTRAL BUCKS EAST 3, SOUDERTON 2 (9 innings)
The Patriots erupted for three runs in the bottom of the ninth inning, erasing a 2-0 deficit to notch the dramatic come-from-behind walk-off win. Not a bad way to celebrate Senior Day as East’s six seniors were honored before the game along with Souderton’s four seniors.
Abby Burns, who allowed just one hit through eight innings, had retired 15 batters in a row heading into the ninth when leadoff batter Sophia Lindia singled to right field. Elizabeth Gray legged out a one-out bunt single, and after Burns struck out the next batter she faced, Taylor Molesky, who had struck out on her first two at-bats, hit a looping fly ball to left that fell fair for a single. Two runs crossed the plate with the speedy Gray – who was running on the play – scoring all the way from first. An intentional walk to Amelia Funston brought sophomore Elise Waddington to the plate, and she singled to right field to plate the game-winner. It was Waddington’s second game-winning hit of the season.
The win snapped a three-game losing streak for the Patriots and broke a three-game winning streak for the Indians.
The Indians – who stranded nine base runners – took a 2-0 lead in the top of the ninth when Sierra Ripka hit a two-out, two-run home run that plated Brooke Scotti, who had walked.
Alex Frenia earned the win, allowing five hits and two runs in 3.2 innings. Soleil Dooner threw five shutout innings, allowing three hits while striking out four and walking one.
Burns, who absorbed the loss struck out 15 and walked just one.

While Mady Volpe continues her mastery in the circle, sophomore Bri Wilmot is rewriting the record books, smashing her program record eighth home run of the season in Monday’s win. Volpe, meanwhile, threw a no-hitter in the abbreviated five-inning mercy rule win, striking out 13 and walking three.
Wilmot’s three-run home run to center field on a full-count pitch spotted the Knights an early 4-0 lead. Earlier in the inning, Sabocsik and Annabelle Smink drew back-to-back one-out walks, and Volpe helped her own cause with an RBI double to left.
That 4-0 advantage was more than enough for Volpe, but a seven-run outburst in the third inning gave the Knights an 11-0 lead and brought an early end to the contest. Highlights included two-run doubles by Wilmot and Carley DiGiuseppe as well as singles by Gianna Cimino and Sabocsik.
Wilmot’s productive day at the plate featured a 2-for-2 effort with a double, home run and five RBIs. Volpe was 2-for-2 with a double and RBI.

CENTRAL BUCKS SOUTH 5, CENTRAL BUCKS WEST 1
The Titans celebrated their five seniors – Paige LaRosa, Jamie Marks, Braylee Webb, Nicole Pilla and Jasmine Chui – with a win over their neighboring rival.
“All five started and played the whole game,” South coach Kevin Rosini said. “We’re hanging in there. I’m happy with that.”
Marks delivered a two-run single in the fifth to break a 1-1 tie, and that hit turned out to be the game-winner. Pilla had another big game for the Titans, finishing 3-for-4 with a double and RBI. Suzie Williams was 2-for-4 with an RBI and run scored.
Maddy Borowski notched the complete game win, allowing three hits and one run (unearned) while striking out seven.

QUAKERTOWN 4, UPPER DUBLIN 2
Syd Andrews struck out 17 and allowed just three hits in another stellar outing in the circle for the Panthers, who scored just enough runs to earn their 14th win of the season.
“We weren’t able to bunch our hits together to break the game open, so it was a little frustrating in that regard,” Scott said. “Honestly, out of those hits, we probably only hit three or four balls really hard, so we were a little off offensively.
“Their pitcher (Chloe Foster) did a really nice job. She kept us off-balance.”
The Panthers put a pair of runs on the board in the top of the first, benefitting from a pair of UD miscues as well as an RBI single by LauraRose Morelock. They added a run in the fourth inning when Skyler Williams, who singled and stole second, scored on an RBI single by Ava Beal.
The Cardinals made things real interesting when Chloe Foster smashed a two-out, two-run home run that plated Lauren Carboni, who singled earlier in the inning.
“Her home run pitch was a two-strike pitch that she got too much of the plate, and man, that girl hit it,” Scott said. “She crushed that ball.”
Morelock’s solo home run in the fifth inning put the Panthers on top 4-2. The Cardinals loaded the bases with two outs in the bottom of the sixth, but Andrews pitched her way out of the jam with a strikeout. The Panthers’ junior pitcher struck out the side in the seventh to put an exclamation point on the win.
“Unfortunately, we had a couple of errors which didn’t help our cause,” Scott said. “Syd threw well today. Her rise ball was really working well, and she established her change-up early, which was good. That helped her throughout the game. She looked really good.”
Morelock turned in a glittering 3-for-4 effort at the plate with a home run and two RBIs. Williams was 2-for-4 with a run scored and stolen base, and Beal was 2-for-4 with a double, RBI, stolen base and run scored. The Panthers stranded 11 runners.
Carboni’s 2-for-3 day at the plate led the Cardinals.
Foster absorbed the loss, allowing 11 hits and four runs (two earned) while striking out eight and walking none.

WISSAHICKON 8, ABINGTON 4
The Trojans scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to go on top 8-1. Those runs loomed large when the Ghosts responded with three runs in the top of the seventh.
Emma Clayborne and Danielle Ciliberto split time in the circle for the Trojans. Clayborne was forced to leave the game with a 4-1 lead after taking a line drive to her pitching hand. She struck out eight in three innings. Ciliberto closed out the game, fanning five.
“They are a well-coached team that always give us a hard time,” Wissahickon coach Mike Borkowski said. “Emma was pitching well before that ball hit her hand. Fortunately, it’s a bad bruise and not broken.
“Danielle has been outstanding all year for us. Once again she was on with the bat and came through pitching for us. We set a goal to have a home playoff game, and we know that our last five games starting today with Abington are all quality opponents that will make us earn our playoff position. This was step one.”
In the four-run sixth, Julia Roth, who drew a one-out walk, scored when Luca Penna doubled to center field. Ciliberto followed with a single, and then Katelyn Fitzgerald delivered an RBI single. Another walk was followed by Grace Franczyk’s RBI single, and a fourth run crossed the plate on a groundout.
The Ghosts rallied in the top of the seventh. Leanna Schenk led off with a double to left, and Annie Skoloski singled. Lauren Everitt delivered an RBI single. An error allowed a second run to cross the plate, but Ciliberto, who came up with a huge strikeout, escaped without further damage as the Ghosts stranded runners on second and third.
Penna finished the game 3-for-4 with three doubles, one RBI and one run scored, and Ciliberto was also 3-for-4 with three runs scored.
“Gracie Franczyk was outstanding behind the plate, calling an excellent game and not allowing any steals,” Borkowski said.
For the Ghosts, Everitt (2-for-4, 2B, 2 RBIs) and Rohrer (2-for-4) led the way. Madison Cornell added a double.

Kendal Leitner tossed an impressive four-hit complete game shutout, fanning 16 and walking none. Kayla Tauber sparked the Hatters’ offense, collecting four of her team’s seven hits with a perfect 4-for-4 day at the plate.
Kristen Myers led off the game with a triple to center, and Tauber brought her home with a single. In the fifth inning, the Hatters added a run and they closed out the scoring with a three-run seventh.
Megan Mills drew a leadoff walk and stole second. Tauber singled to plate Mills, and after Tauber stole second, Abby Waeltz delivered an RBI single. The third run crossed the plate on Amya Lundy’s sacrifice fly.
“Kayla Tauber and Kristen Myers set the tone for our offense today,” HH coach Kelly Krier said. “We put together a solid sixth inning – Kayla, Abby Waeltz and Amya Lundy got runs in to secure our lead.
“Kendal had another solid performance on the mound. PW kept us on our toes and played solid defense in the middle innings.”
