NORTH PENN 9, METHACTON 1
Julia Shearer earned her eighth win of the season without a loss, and the junior co-captain also had a big day at the plate with a 3-for-4 effort that included a double, two runs scored and one RBI.
The Knights put a run on the board in the bottom of the first. Annabelle Smink, who started the two-out rally with a single, scored when Gianna Cimino singled. They added three more runs in the second despite collecting just one hit – a single by Shearer.
In the third inning, Brie Wilmot drew a leadoff walk and scored one out later when Sophia Collins doubled to left field. Maddy Gronback’s single plated Collins, and the Knights led 6-0. They extended that lead in the fourth when Shearer, who singled and stole second, scored on a groundout.
In the fifth inning, Shearer’s line drive two-out double to center field plated a run that put the Knights on top 8-0, and they added a run without collecting a hit in the sixth for a 9-0 advantage.
The Warriors broke up Shearer’s shutout bid with a run in the top of the seventh, capitalizing on a leadoff walk, two singles and a wild pitch.
In the complete game win, Shearer allowed four hits and one run, striking out 11 and walking three.
In addition to Shearer’s big day at the plate, Cimino was 2-for-3 with one RBI, and Collins was 2-for-4 with a double, run scored and three RBIs.
North Penn (8-0, 4-0 SOL) will travel to Souderton on Tuesday to complete the first go round in SOL Colonial Division play.
