The Spartans – sparked by the glittering 16-save effort of goalie Tess Talbot – won a spirited non-league game over the Titans.
“This was a tight game for the whole game,” said Springfield coach Marissa Conover, whose team held a tenuous 4-3 lead at halftime. “CB South tied it up and even was in the lead in the second half.
“We regained possessions and took the lead once again. The last 12 minutes were high energy from both teams and all the spectators. We were within one or two (goals) of each other the whole game.
“Our defense played so well together, which is where the magic really happened. Tess Talbot had an incredible game. (We once again had) low numbers due to spring break, and I couldn’t be more proud of the team.”
Anchoring the defense along with Talbot were Autumn Singletary, Jess Shapley, Shannon Meder and Olivia McCormick.
Emily Smith’s hat trick led the Spartans’ attack. Sam McDevitt had two goals while Fiona Rizzo contributed one goal and three assists. Emma Yoder added a goal.
Springfield Township (5-4, 2-1 SOL) will travel to Cheltenham on Monday, and Central Bucks South (4-3, 2-1) will be on the road at Mount St. Joseph’s Academy for a non-league game on Tuesday.
