Non-league
WISSAHICKON 14, COUNCIL ROCK NORTH 0 (5 innings)
Danielle Ciliberto tossed a four-hit shutout in Saturday’s abbreviated contest, striking out 11 and walking two. She also was 3-for-3 at the plate with two doubles, four runs scored and two RBIs.
Coach Mike Borkowski liked what he saw and has an idea how to keep it going.
“On Friday, many of the Wissahickon players participated in the Wiss Mini-Thon for Kids with Cancer,” the Trojans’ coach said. “There was Dodge Ball, Zumba, a Frisbee event among other sports. The players had a great time. Why am I saying all this? Because after the way Danielle Ciliberto pitched and hit today, the team says she should do Zumba and Dodge ball more often.”
Ciliberto wasn’t the only Trojan to have a big day. Katelyn Fitzgerald was 3-for-4 with two runs scored and three RBIs, and leadoff batter Luca Penna was 2-for-3 with a double and three runs scored. Grace Franczyk was 1-for-4 with a double, run scored and three RBIs.
“The four seniors at the top of the order – Luca Penna, Ciliberto, Katelyn Fitzgerald and Gracie Franczyk – all took turns sending each other home,” Borkowski said.
Junior Emma Dutill knocked Franczyk in to set the Trojans up with a 5-0 lead in the first inning.
With Franczyk calling the pitches, Ciliberto struck out the side in the bottom of the first.
“Gracie really calls a good game,” Borkowski said. “We have a pretty good defense too, so I don’t worry about Gracie calling a game. There’s a good reason she’s going to Towson.”
In the second inning, Penna grounded out to lead off the inning, but consecutive doubles by Ciliberto and Fitzgerald plus another double by Emi Fox two batters later pushed two more runs across.
In the top of the third, freshman shortstop Morgan Risnychok went yard for her second home run of the year. Penna walked, and Ciliberto doubled her home.
Ciliberto had three strikeouts in the bottom of the third.
The Trojans added four runs in the fifth. Sienna Miller started the scoring by reaching base on an error. Maren Carter dropped a beautiful bunt, and Penna followed with a double. Ciliberto followed with an RBI single, and Fitzgerald’s two-run single closed out the scoring.
“It was a good game for us,” Borkowski said. “Everyone contributed. I was worried that after a long bus ride on a Saturday morning we would come out flat.
“Last year CRN beat us in a strange game. I think the girls came in focused and determined. I really didn’t feel too comfortable with an 8-0 lead because they have some good players and they beat us last year at home.”
Wissahickon (9-3, 8-1 SOL) will host Springfield Township on Monday, and Council Rock North (0-9, 0-8) will travel to Pennridge on Monday.

PLYMOUTH WHITEMARSH 6, PERKIOMEN VALLEY 3 (8 innings)
Just in case the Colonials hadn’t played enough softball this week, they went to extra innings for the second time in as many days in Saturday’s non-league game at Perk Valley, and once again, they emerged the winner, erupting for three runs in the top of the eighth.
“We’ve had five games in six days this week,” said PW coach Mike Perez. “That schedule could have gone either way, but the girls have really come together during this stretch.”
Have they ever.
The Colonials won all five games and boast an eight-game winning streak. Saturday’s win was hard earned.
PW and PV were deadlocked 3-3 heading into the eighth with the Vikings using a late comeback to erase an early 3-0 PW lead.
Julie Price led off the eighth with a single, and Marissa Perez followed with a single. Back-to-back Viking errors allowed a run to cross the plate. Kalina Childers, who reached first on an error, scored on a wild pitch, and PW added a third run when Molly Moore singled to center.
Moore, who notched the complete game win, retired the Vikings in order in the bottom of the inning, and the win was in the books.
Earlier in the game, the Colonials put a run on the board in the first inning when Lauryn Kane, who walked, scored on Rian Reed’s double to right field. They added two more in the third when Moore walked, and Kane smashed a home run, driving in a pair to put the Colonials on top 3-0.
PV scored a pair of runs in the sixth and added a run in the bottom of the seventh to extend the game to extra innings.
In a winning effort, Moore allowed eight hits and three runs (two earned) in eight strong innings. She fanned 11 and walked four.
Moore also was 2-for-4 out of the leadoff spot with one RBI.
“Rian Reed and Lauryn Kane continued their hot bats from yesterday,” Perez said. “After late inning heroics by Rian yesterday, she had an RBI double in the first inning. And in the third, Lauryn had yet another two-run home run. It’s her fourth in the last three days. Her leadership continues to drive our success.
“It was also nice to get Molly Moore back in the circle after missing the past two games. She’s a workhorse. She went eight full innings today with 11 Ks vs a tough Perk Valley lineup.
“I know the girls are in desperate need of a day off tomorrow, but excited to get back on the field Monday.”
Plymouth Whitemarsh (9-3, 8-2 SOL) will host Lower Moreland on Monday.

WILLIAM TENNENT 13, ARCHBISHOP RYAN 6
The visiting Panthers came out with their bats on fire, scoring eight runs in the top of the first to take early control of Saturday’s non-league game.
The offensive explosion began when – with one out – Anna Coulter reached base on an error. Vicky Colagreco followed with a single, and Gigi DeMito walked. Casey Yacovelli’s single with the bases loaded plated a pair, and then it was Lainey Scotese contributing an RBI double. Olivia Clee tripled, plating Scotese, and Clee scored on a Ryan miscue.
Giselle McLaughlin singled, and after Morgan Kocher drew a walk, Coulter doubled to left field, pushing two more runs across and giving the Panthers an 8-0 lead.
Ryan made it an 8-4 game after two innings, but the Panthers scored a run in the top of the second and four more in the fourth to go on top 13-4 before Ryan scored a pair in the bottom of the fourth. Neither team scored the rest of the way.
All told, the Panthers pounded out 14 hits, led by Yacovelli’s 3-for-5 effort with two runs scored and two RBIs. Coulter (2-for-5, 2B, 3B, run, 2 RBIs), Scotese (2-for-4, 2B, 2 runs, 3 RBIs), Clee (2-for-3, 2B, 3B, 2 runs, RBI) and McLaughlin (2-for-3, 1 run) also had multi-hit games.
Katie LaPlant, who notched the win, threw five innings, allowing eight hits and six runs (only one earned) while striking out five and walking none. Carlie Nydick did not allow a hit in two shutout innings in relief. She struck out two.
William Tennent (7-3, 6-2 SOL) will host Hatboro-Horsham on Monday.

BENSALEM 15, MaST CHARTER 0 (3 innings)
Saturday’s non-league game was more than just a game for the Owls. It was the team’s annual Cancer Awareness game. The Owls played for Dave Richardson (Bensalem Deputy of Public Safety), who is battling pancreatic cancer.
MaST threatened in the first when Joran Jennings smacked a two-out triple, but Maggie Formichelli was able to induce a weak pop-up to end the inning.
The top of the Owls lineup did what they have all season long. In the bottom of the inning, Megan Klein singled and stole second and then Ayva Knowles walked. Klein and Knowles then executed a double steal, and Klein scored on an error by the catcher. Formichelli hit into a fielder’s choice to score Knowles for a 2-0 lead.
The second inning was smooth for the Owls defense with back-to-back strikeouts, and catcher Ashlyn Merz made a diving catch of a bunt attempt popped up.
The Owls had a huge second inning. Merz lead off with a walk, courtesy runner Delaney Bell stole second and scored on a single by Keira Seidman. Klein then ripped an RBI triple, Knowles followed it up with an RBI double. Back-to-back singles by Formichelli and Lina Sponheimer put two on for the big blast of the inning when Camryn Pickering blasted a three-run home-run to right field to bring the score to 9-0.
In the third inning, MaST threatened again with a leadoff walk and hit batter, but Formichelli dialed in with two Ks and a weak pop up to first.
The Owls closed out the game in the bottom of the inning with RBI doubles by Adrianna Vargas, Klein and Pickering.
Bensalem (8-5, 6-4 SOL) will travel to Souderton on Monday.
