Non-league
HATBORO-HORSHAM 4, UPPER MORELAND 0
Sparked by the glittering one-hit effort of Kennedy Conn, the Hatters rebounded from back-to-back losses to earn an impressive shutout win in Friday’s non-league road contest.
Conn, who fanned nine, was one out away from a no-hitter when – with two outs in the seventh – Stephanie Jones lined a single to center. Unfa
zed, Conn struck out the next batter she faced to close out the shutout win.
The Hatters had just six hits off UM ace Delaney Stout but got three of those in a four-run sixth. They also benefitted from a pair of UM miscues in the inning. Madison Karpovich and Molly Harrington both drove in a pair of runs.
By the numbers: Hatboro-Horsham: Maya Ravi (2-for-3, 1R), Madison Karpovich (1-for-4, 2B, 2RBI), Molly Harrington (1-for-3, 3B, 2RBIs)
Kennedy Conn (W) (7.0 IP, 1H, 0R, 4BB, 9K)
Upper Moreland: Delaney Stout (7.0 IP, 6H, 4R, 0ER, 2BB, 9K)
Key inning: Top of sixth: Maya Ravi led off with a single, and with one out, Isabella Karpovich was safe on an error. Both runners scored when Madison Karpovich doubled to center. A second miscue allowed Conn to reach base safely, setting the stage for a booming two-run triple to right field by Harrington. (4-0)
Hatboro-Horsham coach Bob Sadowl: “Madison Karpovich got a clutch double to centerfield in the top of the sixth picking up two RBIs. Two batters later Molly Harrington tripled down the right field line, scoring two more runs. That is all Kennedy Conn needed as she was superb in the circle, striking out nine on her way to pitching a one-hit shutout. Maya Rabi went 2-for-3.
“Madison and Molly were clutch at the plate today, something we needed because it was missing the first two games. Delaney Stout kept us off balance until the sixth inning when we finally got some clutch hits. Upper Moreland has a well-coached team, and they will give opponents a tough time this year.”
Up next: Hatboro-Horsham (3-2, 0-2 SOL) will host Gwynedd Mercy in a non-league game Monday, and Upper Moreland (4-2, 1-1) will travel to Springfield on Tuesday.

Council Rock South coach Scott Molle on the game: “On consecutive games, we were aware of the challenge ahead of us as we faced Conwell-Egan. Their roster boasts an array of skilled players who consistently demonstrate exceptional hitting abilities. We commenced the first inning trailing by two runs. Although we encountered several tough plays in the field that necessitate improvement in the future, our team promptly regrouped and delivered an impressive performance, accumulating 16 hits and scoring 13 runs.
Achieving such a feat is no easy task, particularly against a formidable opponent like Egan. Notably, our team effectively adapted to the three different pitchers employed by Egan throughout the game. While there is room for defensive improvement, specifically in terms of securing plays, the overall outcome was a resounding success for our team. Every player in our lineup secured at least one hit, with seven players achieving multiple hits.
–Props: “Julia Scannapieco had an outstanding day at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a walk, a single, and a 2-run home run that was the farthest ball hit at our field.
“Lexi Waring also delivered a notable performance, achieving two hits, including a double and a walk. On the mound, Lexi secured six strikeouts and effectively closed out the game with a 1-2-3 seventh inning.
“Freshman Jenna Pesapane continued her impressive streak, securing two hits and an RBI. Shannon Williams, our cleanup hitter today, made a significant impact, slugging out two hits, including a double, and accumulating 3 RBIs.
“Victoria Herzog, another freshman, started in left field and demonstrated exceptional patience, going 2-2 with two walks and scoring four runs.
“Veronica Houk started at second base and added two hits, including a solo home run, and 3 three RBIs. Veronica is very athletic and has played three different positions for us. We know wherever we use her we are in good hands
“Molly Gabriele, our center fielder, collected two hits in the 9-hole position, demonstrating her hard work and dedication to improving her offense. Molly serves as the anchor in our outfield and embodies the values of teamwork, consistently giving her all and understanding the importance of collective effort. It is an absolute pleasure to have Molly on our team.”
