–Finishing on top – “It’s been a bit of a whirlwind emotionally the past seven days. And while we have had great leadership from our young ladies and we are really connected defensively, ultimately, we’ve made shots. Last Friday we were 11-for-42. This week we’ve knocked down those shots “We felt really good about Sammie and Joley coming into tonight. Sammie practiced well and was shooting well. She came out tonight and showed her full arsenal. scoring at all three levels and just stepping up in a really big moment in her career,
“Joley was also tremendous again. She passed it really well and had some excellent finishes. Both Sammie and Joley were really locked in this week, driving and kicking
“These are two young women grew up watching Pennsbury Basketball. Sammie saw her sister cut down a couple of nets. Joley has watched pretty much every game here for a decade. Watching her smile tonight made me think back to how hard it was last year for her to have to sit and watch
“We are really happy for our seniors Emily Panaro and Bridget McGonigle. They have seen so much here, and they have been such good leaders.
“I never bring them up, but I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention what a great job our assistant coaches have done this year. They are such a big part of our culture and our preparation.
“We’ve talked a few times about how it’s always the same three steps every time you go up the ladder to get the net, but the journey is different for everyone.
“It’s been really fun watching the journey for all of our girls this year and seeing them smile and accomplish our first goal.
“It’s such a tremendous group of young women and their grace and humility is extremely humbling. I’m very fortunate to be along for the ride.”

SOL Liberty Division
PLYMOUTH WHITEMARSH 42, ABINGTON 41
The Colonials trailed by one at halftime and 28-23 heading into the final quarter when they staged a gutsy comeback to earn the win.
Key players: Eliza Meersman led PW with 16 points, nine rebounds, three steals and two assists. Kenna Winland added 12 points, which included a 6-for-7 effort at the foul line. She also had four steals. Liv Patete had 11 points, four rebounds, three assists, three steals.
For the Ghosts, Aniyah Williams led the way with 17 points, and Rhyane Robers had 11 points.
Plymouth Whitemarsh coach Daniel Dougherty:
–The comeback: “We were down 41-33 with 1:45 to go…Eliza Meersman hits a three, on ensuing inbounds Mia Baron gets a steal, misses the layup, but Eliza is there to put it back in. Next inbound Grace Harvey gets a steal at half court; gets the ball to Eliza who is fouled driving to the basket; and she makes both. Just like that it’s 41-40. We are able to get another turnover in the halfcourt with 22 seconds to go. Eliza drives to the basket, defense collapses, she hits a wide open Liv Patete under the basket who calmly lays it in. Still nine seconds left. Abington calls timeout, they drive the length of the court, get two really good looks that just miss. Incredible finish.”
–Props: “Lots of praise to go around on this one. Kenna Winland had maybe her best half of the season in the first half; singlehandedly keeping us in the game. Liv Patete was tremendous, not just on the game-winning basket. She has been a 32-minute-a-game stud all season. Tonight, every bucket she got was crucial.
“Mia Baron’s defense at the end of the game, absolutely turned the momentum of the game.
“And can’t say enough about Eliza Meersman. She just put the team on her back in those final minutes.
“I have to give major props to my assistant coach TJ DeLucia. I wasn’t able to be at practice the past two days (illness) and he had the girls ready to go. We’ve been coaching together a long time, can’t be understated the job he does for our program. Couldn’t be happier for this group.”
Abington coach Allison Lawson:
–The game: “I couldn’t be more proud of the way our girls competed from start to finish. They played with heart, toughness, and togetherness, battling through adversity all night and never backing down.
“I feel like this was not an easy game, and there were moments that tested our composure, but the girls stayed focused and continued to fight for one another. Their effort, resilience, and playing the RIGHT way were on full display, and that’s something the scoreboard doesn’t always show.
–Props: Rhyane Rogers had 11 points, four assists and two rebounds and played great defense.
“Aniyah Williams was being face guarded the whole game and still had 17 points, five rebounds, and three assists.”
Up next: Abington will travel to Quakertown Tuesday, and Plymouth Whitemarsh will travel to Methacton for a non-league game Saturday (5:30pm).

WILLIAM TENNENT 70, LOWER MORELAND 41
The Panthers held a tenuous 11-9 lead after one quarter. They extended that to 30-20 by halftime. Megan Volz and Avery Kocur were the catalysts with eight points each in the half.
The Panthers led by 11 heading into the fourth quarter, 46-35, on their way to the win.
Key players: Megan Volz led all scorers with 21 points, Halie Staub scored 20 points – 13 in the second half. Avery Kocur added 17 points, which included three 3-pointers.
Lower Moreland was led by Mollie Martin (13 points) and Sydney Santora (12 points.
William Tennent coach Laura Whitney:
“Great team win. It was truly a special night.
“Going into tonight, there was definitely some concern about having an emotional letdown after clinching the division Tuesday. Plus, I have a ton of respect for Andy (Krasna), and I knew he’d have his girls prepared. But credit to our girls who came out with so much energy and were firing on all cylinders. The atmosphere in the gym was incredible. We had our pep band there getting everyone into the game, our student section showed out, and we also had our youth night. So, you couldn’t ask for a better environment to play in.
“We got off to a quick start but had some breakdowns defensively that allowed Lower Moreland to get back in the game to end the first. We responded well the second quarter, and I thought our defensive intensity picked up and we were able to play to our advantage in transition and put the pressure right back on Lower Moreland to take a 10-point lead into halftime.
“The second half it was Lower Moreland who had the fast start and was able to cut the lead to four. I was proud of the way our girls continued to respond every time the Lions made a run. We never seemed rattled and played with a lot of confidence. The last few games we have done a really great job of sharing the ball and making that extra pass for an even better shot. We have so many girls that can put the ball in the basket, and it’s a lot of fun to watch them play so unselfishly. Lower Moreland didn’t go away easily and showed a lot of fight. It wasn’t until the fourth quarter where we were able to really open up the game.”
–Props: “Our big three were unbelievable tonight. Avery played with such balance. She facilitates everything, and I thought her decision making was really good and she was aggressive when she needed to be. Staub was flat out awesome tonight. It may have been one of her best performances all season. She played with such pace but was in control of everything she did and got it done in a variety of ways. Big V dominated inside and had some really impressive finishes both in transition and the half court.
“But the icing on the cake was cutting down the net in front of our home crowd and celebrating winning the SOL Freedom Division. It was a special moment that I know these girls will remember for a long time. It has been a historic season on so many levels and we’re hoping to keep the momentum going for a little longer.”
Up next: William Tennent will host North Penn in a non-league game Saturday (12:30pm), and Lower Moreland will host Upper Moreland Tuesday.

13 points.
For the Golden Bears Hailey Milks led the way with 17 points.
Springfield Twp coach Dave Giordano:
–The game: “We had another solid defensive game. I don’t think Ava (Culler) was happy with the result of our game on Wednesday, and I think she was looking to take it out on someone. She played very determined in the first two quarters tonight. Her performance was pretty awesome to watch as she scored 23 of our 32 points in the first half. She let her teammates contribute, and they did a great job with scoring from the inside and outside with MK Garry dropping three threes and good overall play from Caitlin Lewis, Keira Brandon and Julia Guicheteau running the offense and some good defense by the rest of the team.”

Wissahickon coach Kathie Sims:
–The game: “The girls played together tonight, showing patience on offense and strong communication on the defensive end. I was very happy that their effort paid off with a well-earned win.”
Quakertown coach Dan Cymerman:
–The game: “Alexa Reich led the way offensively for us with eight points. Paisley Heft contributed seven points, but she really did a great job for us on defense with her rebounding and blocked shots.
“There isn’t much time for us to reflect on this one as we prepare to face Kennett on Saturday afternoon. This is a challenge for us at the end of the year, with five games in seven days, but it will be a great test for us.”
Up next: Wissahickon will host Norristown in a non-league game Monday, and Quakertown will be on the road at Kennett in a non-league game Saturday (12noon).
