District 1 fifth place game
#13 CHELTENHAM 48, #7 SPRING-FORD 43
The visiting Panthers found themselves on the short end of a 32-21 halftime score but erased that deficit in a hurry in the third quarter, shutting out the Rams while putting 16 points on the board.
Jaedn Mosley ignited the Panthers on the offensive end in the third quarter, burying three 3-pointers as the Panthers outscored their hosts 16-0 to go on top 37-32. They held on to win by that five-point margin.
Key players: Jaedn Mosley’s 14 points led a balanced Cheltenham attack, and Chris Harmon added 11. Elijah Saintillidor added nine, and Isaiah Dill had eight.
Cheltenham coach Patrick Fleury:
–The game: “The third quarter for us was unique in the fact that we were able to hold them scoreless. It was 32-21 at halftime, and obviously, they’re a very good team. We played them last year, and we were unsuccessful.
“I think the third quarter is more in line of who we want to be and who we have the capability of being. We were lucky that some of the shots they normally make – they didn’t hit them in that quarter.
“The biggest thing is – that’s a team stat, and that’s the stuff we like to pay attention to the most.”
Up next: Cheltenham will travel to Central York, the District 3 runner-up, for an opening round game in the PIAA 6A State Tournament on Friday. Central York – which boasts a record of 22-3 -fell to Central Dauphin 58-52 in the District 3 title game.

District 1 seventh place game
ABINGTON 55, GARNET VALLEY 53
The Ghosts came away with another close win, winning by two for the second time in as many games.
“We led the whole game,” Abington coach Dan Marsh said. “They made a late run and cut it to two, but that’s as close as they got, and that’s how it ended.
“It was 4-4, and after that, we led the whole way. It never got more than 10 – they were always right there.”
Xander Grasty’s 20 points led the Ghosts while Garnet Valley was led by the 17-point effort of Grayson Golek.
“It was a good game,” Marsh said. “It was an important game.
Saturday’s win loomed large since the loser of the seventh place game – Garnet Valley – will be playing the District 12 champion, the winner of the Father Judge/Imhotep contest.
Up next: Abington will return to action on Friday in the opening round of the PIAA 6A State Tournament.

District 1 ninth place game
#10 CONESTOGA 51, #24 PENNSBURY 47
The Falcons came up just short in Friday’s ninth place game but were in it until the end.
After the two teams battled to a 12-12 tie at the end of one quarter, Conestoga outscored its visitors in the second quarter
and took a 30-26 lead into halftime. Patrick Jajua kept the Falcons close with 10 second-quarter points.
Pennsbury was still within striking distance heading into the fourth quarter, trailing 41-36. They never could get over the hump.
The game was marred by 30 fouls called in two-and-a-half quarters.
“Officials have a difficult job, and interpretations of rules are up to the eye of the beholder,” Pennsbury coach Wes Emme said. “Block charge calls are difficult, and you’re never gonna be happy, but it really just threw off the rhythm of the game.
“The game got kind of clunky, and it kind of got robbed of its excellence because of some of the better players in the game being in foul trouble.”
Key players: Patrick Jajua led all scorers with 21 points – 17 in the first half. Brayden Clark added 11 points.
Pennsbury coach Wes Emme:
–The game: “We had our opportunities in the game. We didn’t shoot the ball particularly well outside of Patrick Jajua and Brayden Clark. Patrick went absolutely nuts in the first half but then had to sit the majority of the second half with three quick fouls. Brayden made a couple of really big plays, including a really difficult finish, and then he went 3-for-4 at the foul line after a technical foul that kept it really close going into the fourth quarter.
“It was three (points), and we had a couple of chances for steals, and we fouled. They made one of two twice, and we just didn’t make the final play.
“Credit Conestoga. They were district champions last year, and they’re finally at full strength, and that’s a really, really good team. That’s a quality opponent that helped prepare us for the state playoffs.”
Up next: Pennsbury will travel to District 3 champion Central Dauphin for an opening round PIAA 6A State Tournament game Friday.
