Plymouth Whitemarsh 9, Ridley 6
In a game that had its share of overly aggressive action, Plymouth Whitemarsh kept its composure and picked up a deceptively close 9-6 victory over nonleague opponent Ridley. The Colonials led 9-3 until the final minutes of the game.
Maite Jayo and Grace Harvey each scored three goals for the Colonials.
By the numbers: Plymouth Whitemarsh: Maite Jayo (3 G,1 A), Grace Harvey (3 G), Katie Guarino (1 G), Riley Martin (1 G), Grace Kerns (1 G, 1 A), Rachel Craft (1 A), Addi Stein (3 saves).
Plymouth Whitemarsh coach Ellen Reilly: “We started strong off the draw. With position came offensive sets that led to goals. We were patient with the ball and worked for good shots.
“The game got very physical, too physical for a girls lacrosse game. I was proud of my players keeping their cool and playing through the roughness. At the end we let it get to us and we lost our composure a little. Ridley fought to the end, coming up with possessions late in the game that led to three goals in the last four minutes.”
—Props: “Defensively, Esther Backentose, Soph Nagle, Keira Whelan, and Kai Jayo played great and carried us through transition. Midfielders Riley Martin, Grace Kerns, Grace Harvey, and Mai Jayo played great on the circle and on offense.
“Low attackers Jackie Spinelli, Katie Guarino, Rachel Craft, Shae Murphy, and Ellie Coyle helped maintain possession and worked hard in our offensive sets.”
Up next: The Colonials host Abington at 3:30 pm Monday.
Methacton 9, Wissahickon 8
