SOL Patriot Division
Neshaminy 3, Pennsbury 0
Fifteen days after the neighboring rivals battled to a 2-2 tie, the two teams met for a rematch, and this time, it was the Redskins who had the better of play.
“Playing Pennsbury in their stadium is always tough,” Neshaminy coach Josh Van Reed said. “We had just played them to a draw two weeks ago, so we knew this game was going to be a very difficult game. We have had some injuries and have made a lot of changes recently and doing it without practice time has been challenging.
“Three games in four days for league play – I was worried about a bit of fatigue setting in. But the girls really stepped up. Everyone, because we really needed top-level play from everyone today.”
Neshaminy broke a scoreless tie with a first-half goal from Grace Miraski, then added two more after the break.
Celia Horton and Chloe Mougeotte scored in the second half for Neshaminy, while goalkeeper Alexis Barnes and the defense kept Pennsbury off the scoreboard to secure the shutout.
Scoring Summary
First half
Grace Miraski (N), assist Grace DiAlfonso
Second half
Celia Horton (N)
Chloe Mougeotte (N)
Neshaminy coach Josh Van Reed:
–The game: “We began the game with some intensity and were rewarded with a real nice goal that started from a throw and flick from Leah Kaczmarek to Grace DiAlfonso, who got endline and found Grace Miraski for the quick one-touch to the back post. From there we settled in and played with a lot of pressure. Got through to halftime after a couple close chances from Pennsbury off corners.
“Second half we talked about keeping the pressure up and getting numbers forward. At the beginning of the half, Celia Horton forced a turnover and drove near post and put a nice shot high near side to give us some breathing room.
“Pennsbury kept fighting back with some very dangerous balls from free kicks that Alexis Barnes was able to keep off the line. Then with 10 minutes remaining, Emma Harrison put a ball on frame the keeper had to knock down, and Chloe Mougeotte was there to put it back in for our third goal.
“I was really happy with the team effort today. Everyone working hard all over the field.”
–Getting defensive: “Defense played great today. Alydia Cooksley, Lily Kaczmarek, Emma Harrison and Maria Mitchell, along with some great saves by our keeper Alexis Barnes, all helped to keep the clean sheet.”
Up next: Neshaminy will host Harry S Truman on Tuesday, and Pennsbury will host Council Rock North on Tuesday.

SOL non-league crossover
Council Rock South 3, Quakertown 0
Council Rock South scored once in the first half and added two goals after the break to win its second road game of the week.
“Back-to-back days on the road is never ideal, especially with the long bus drive for the second leg of the two games,” CR South coach Nick Heim said. “We wanted to make sure we focused on the things we did well, while being aware of the dangerous pieces that Quakertown has.”
Brooke Pavlow, Anna Horn and Ruby Bross scored for the Golden Hawks, while Maddie Hyams earned the shutout with help from a deep defensive unit that saw eight defenders contribute.
Scoring Summary:
First half
Brooke Pavlow (CRS), assist Lylah Day
Second half
Anna Horn (CRS), assist Claire Vizza
Ruby Bross (CRS), assist Sophia Smith
Council Rock South coach Nick Heim:
–The game: “I thought we got off to a good start. We had quite a bit of possession in the middle of the field and generated some chances moving forward, just none that were really threatening early on. Quakertown is dangerous on the counter, so we stressed being efficient in the final third.
“We were able to get on the board midway through the first half when Brooke Pavlow and Lylah Day had a really nice combination that led to Brooke having a really poised finish. We led 1-0 at the break.
“At half, we stressed finishing the game and stretching the lead to give us more of a cushion. We continued to apply pressure, but it wasn’t until Claire Vizza beat a player and found Anna Horn, and Anna was able to beat the keeper from outside the box.
“Later on, Sophia Smith found Ruby Bross on a late run to make it 3-0. Overall happy with the performance and getting a win on the road over a solid team.
“Maddie Hyams gets the shutout with help of a deep defensive unit, utilizing eight defenders throughout the game.”
Next up: Council Rock South will host Council Rock North on Saturday (1pm).
“North will certainly be a test, but I think this group is up for the challenge,” Heim said.
Quakertown will host Wissahickon on Tuesday (7pm).
Council Rock South 1 2 – 3
Quakertown 0 0 – 0

Truman 4, Philadelphia Charter Academy 0
Truman reached a milestone with its victory over Philadelphia Charter Academy. It was the Tigers’ third win of the season — the most victories in a season since 2013.
“Some of the goals we set for the season were to surpass last year’s win total (of two) and to win a league game, and we’ve accomplished both of those goals already,” Truman coach Brian Gilbert said. “We have a lot of girls chomping at the bit to get in the game and when they do, they give it their all and make the most of their minutes. Next man (woman) up mentality. Today it showed on the scoreboard and always extra special to
see players get those first-ever varsity goals!”
Freshmen played a major role in the victory as Maddie Egan opened the scoring and Amirah Fisher scored the first two goals of her varsity career. Junior co-captain Gwen Marston added her team-leading fifth goal, while Dani Gilbert and Vivienne Pauley combined for Truman’s second shutout of the season.
Scoring Summary
First half
Madison Egan (T), assist Julianna Aviles, 11:08
Gwen Marston (T), unassisted, 31:33
Amirah Fisher (T), assist Hadley Rizzo, 39:09
Second half
Amirah Fisher (T), assist Brennan Gilbert, 29:23
Truman coach Brian Gilbert:
–The game: “Truman beat Philadelphia Charter Academy behind three goals from freshmen. Freshman Maddie Egan started the scoring. Julianna Aviles, looking for her first goal, took a shot that hit the inside of the left post and rolled across the goal line. Egan made the run to follow the shot and could’ve easily put it in the back of the net, but knowing it would have been Aviles’ first, she waited to see if it was going to cross the line on its own before tapping it in. Another act of selflessness from the Truman girls.
“Junior co-captain Gwen Marston intercepted a pass at the top of the 18 and fired home an unassisted goal to put the Tigers up 2-0. It was Marston’s team-leading fifth goal.
“Freshman Amirah Fisher almost scored her first goal a few games ago, and it was a shot she would like to have had back. In the closing minute of the half, Hadley Rizzo fed an open Fisher at the top of the 18 and she sent a rocket shot into the back of the net. No mistake this time.
“Fisher wasn’t done. In the second half, the Tigers had a corner kick to the right of the goal. Freshman Brennan Gilbert took the corner kick. She lofted a long shot that reached across the center of the goal mouth. Fisher timed her run and volleyed the ball out of the air and into the back of the net to put the Tigers up 4-0.
“Goaltenders Dani Gilbert and Vivienne Pauley combined for their second shutout of the season. The win is
Truman’s third of the season, surpassing last season’s total.”
–On Philadelphia Charter Academy:
“This game meant a lot to me. It was the only non-league game that I was adamant I wanted on the schedule. I also coach a Valley AA Rogue girls travel soccer team. Rilee Reed is one of my captains. She is so fun to watch because she plays so hard and gives it her all and is the type of player you want on your team. I’ve coached her for many years and watched her grow up. To be able to watch her play in a high school varsity game has definitely been one of my highlights of the season.
“The start of the game had a different feel as Rilee and her Rogue teammates greeted each other before the game and took a big group photo. Truman has 10 Valley Rogue girls on our roster. To start the game, counting Rilee, there were 11 total Rogue girls starting on the same field for a high school varsity soccer game.
“As expected, once the opening whistle blew, they didn’t take it easy on each other. We’ve dubbed her ‘Wreck-em Rilee’ for a reason, and she didn’t disappoint, going fearlessly after every loose ball.
“The Philly Charter team played a hard-fought game. A lot of credit goes to their goalkeeper Caitlin as well. She made many good saves to keep the game close. During the handshake, the keeper informed me her AC Chaos team will be facing Rogue in ICSL play. Looking forward to an exciting match!”
Up next: Harry S Truman will travel to Neshaminy on Tuesday.

Springfield Twp 5, Mount St. Joseph Academy 1
The Spartans bounced back from their first loss of the season 24 hours earlier.
“This game could have gone two ways,” Spartans’ coach Chris Tomarelli said. “We could have felt sorry for ourselves after a tough loss to Lower Moreland, or we could come out with pride, purpose, and energy and send a statement.”
Led by the inspired offensive performance of Karter Brady, the Spartans chose the latter, opening up a 3-0 lead over the Mount on their way to the convincing win.
Brady had herself a day, scoring four goals and adding an assist to Liz Hanushchak, who finished the scoring to make it 5-1.
Scoring Summary
Karter Brady – 4 goals, 1 assist
Liz Hanushchak – 1 goal
Springfield Twp coach Chris Tomarelli:
“The girls were asked to step into different roles for the betterment of the team, and they rose to the occasion. That’s what being a team is about – putting the team first, embracing your role, and competing with pride and purpose.
“Proud of the response today. We’ll keep working.”
Up next: Springfield Twp will host Upper Moreland on Tuesday.
