The Golden Hawks earned a dramatic 2-1 victory over Bensalem when Kylee Ward converted a penalty stroke with just 1:05 remaining in overtime.
Earlier, Courtney Allahand’s goal in the first quarter spotted the Golden Hawks the lead, but Reese Sayers turned a pass from Lily Lendzinski into the equalizer in the second quarter. That score stood until Ward’s game-winner.

Council Rock South coach Katelyn Cocco:
–Props: “I’m extremely proud of this group. They never gave up and played really hard. Kylee Ward was someone who was a spark on the field today. Her defense was incredible and she came up with some great stops. She also helped us get the goal for our victory on the stroke in overtime. Other shout outs to Reese Berkis in goal, Mia Schink for her speed, and Ashlynne Mabin. Ashlynne is such a hard worker and did a really great job today at eliminating her defender. This was a great team win.”
Bensalem coach Gary Kubik: “Council Rock started the scoring off early with goal by Mia Schink just 2:30 into the game. Bensalem responded back with 4:30 left in the second quarter. Reese Sayers got off a viscous backhand whose rebound was picked up and inserted into the net by Lily Lendzinski. That score held 1-1 through the rest of regulation.
“Overtime was back and forth for the first 8:30 minutes when CRN had a breakaway against Bensalem’s Hailey Fricke. South’s striker took a shot that was saved by Fricke and then the striker fell over, and on top of Fricke. The play was ruled a stroke and South’s Schink put the penalty stroke into the right side of the goal for the overtime win.”
Up next: Council Rock South will host Council Rock North on Saturday (11am), and Bensalem will host Harry S Truman Friday.

PENNSBURY 8, COUNCIL ROCK NORTH 0
The Falcons traveled to Newtown today for their first season meeting with Council Rock North. The two had a preview of each other during a Hockeyrama play day at Pennsbury HS back in August, but time had passed, and teams grow and change quickly. Pennsbury was coming off their fifth consecutive win, looking to keep their streak alive, and North was hoping to stifle that momentum.
Senior Regan Rodriguez set the tone early, notching her first goal of the game at the 11:34 mark after the starting whistle. She picked up a rebound off the goalie’s pads and wasted no time getting it into the cage to put PHS up 1-0.
The Falcons kept their foot on the gas pedal in the first quarter, dominating possession and tallying two more goals. Abby Iacona made it a 2-0 game when she connected halfway through the quarter on a laser shot from the top of the circle. The shot was too much for the defender who tried to stop it before it bounced off her stick into the net.
“Iacona does a great job of getting the ball on cage from a variety of angles. She is a really strong shooter and has a full toolbox of tricks to choose from,” said head coach Traci Curtis.
Senior Ava Pinto wrapped up the quarter scoring during penalty corner play with two minutes left, sending PHS into the second quarter with a 3-0 lead.
Senior Ryan Burdette lit up the scoreboard in the second quarter with an assist from Sophomore Lilly Alon during another penalty corner at the 8:00 mark. Lilly Alon struck again soon after that, this time with a goal of her own as she worked relentlessly on the pads to pick up the trash and dump it in.
“We were up 5-0 at halftime because our girls were doing a really great job of moving the ball, connecting stick-to-stick all over the field, and covering the space well,” Curtis said. “We were in all the right places, and our sticks were strong, denying the Rock opportunities to gain any offense pressure. Our off-ball cuts and creations were spot on and allowing us to move the defense and attack in so many different ways.”
Curtis continued, “Abby Iacona’s ability to set her teammates up for scoring success from the middle of the field is off the charts. She is a workhorse on the ball. In addition, she and Ryan Burdette work in harmony and have such a good rhythm that comes from years of playing together. Unfortunately, it’s not a recorded stat to be a playmaker, but Iacona has that locked and loaded every game. When you watch film and look at the scorebook, you can say that Abby had her hand in most of it.”
Burdette got her second goal of the game late in the third quarter on a straight bullet from the top of the circle, putting the orange and black up 6-0. North worked hard to hold the Falcons to one goal in the third quarter.
“Their goalie played an incredible game. She had a ton of great saves and never let down as we fired a lot of hard shots on her throughout four quarters. She was fun to watch,” said Curtis.
Pennsbury continued to dominate in the final quarter, adding two goals and putting an exclamation point on their sixth win in a row. Ryan Burdette recorded a hat trick in the books, scoring unassisted off the goalie’s pads at the 6:40 mark.
“Burdette was extra on fire today, and that is lethal in the middle because she is like a tornado that can’t be stopped, making a lot happen at a very fast pace,” stated Curtis.
Regan Rodriguez had her second goal of the game on a Burdette assist with four minutes left in the game. The final score was 8-0, giving goalkeeper Amelia Fernandes the shutout and fueling the fire in the Falcons’ bellies.
“We are scoring a lot of goals, but we are also denying a lot because of our stellar defense,” Curtis said. “Joley Hohman, Allie Fouss, Payton Worth, and Cailyn Reilly are working incredibly well together. They play with strength, confidence, and high level IQ. It’s really fun to watch them continue to grow together and create something amazing in the backfield. They are all unsung heroes.
“We are taking one day at a time, one step at a time, one moment at a time. We are not hyper focused on our record or our goals scored, or other data. You can’t hang on to any of it for too long, or it becomes a false confidence builder and a distraction. Each day is a clean slate, and the work starts over with our relentless mentality.”
Up next: Pennsbury will travel to Patriot Division rival Neshaminy on Wednesday for a showdown under the lights, and Council Rock North will face Council Rock South on Saturday (11am).

CENTRAL BUCKS EAST 2, CENTRAL BUCKS WEST 1 (OT)
This win was a long time coming.
The Patriots brought a welcome end to a nine-game losing streak at the hands of the Bucks with an exhilarating overtime victory over the three-time defending Colonial Division champs
Thursday’s thriller came to a dramatic end when Sam Lafferty scored with a Brynn Bonargo assist with 4:34 remaining in overtime.
East’s OT win was the program’s first over West since Sophie Parker scored an overtime goal on Oct. 18, 2021, that also gave the Patriots a 2-1 win.
The 2026 season is far from over, and the two teams will meet again in the regular season finale on Oct. 20 at War Memorial Field, but the win was significant for the Patriots.
“This is momentum for sure,” East coach Emma Rosenthal said. “I think all season I’ve been trying to instill in us to believe in ourselves, and that really came to fruition tonight.”
West applied heavy pressure throughout regulation, earning 16 penalty corners, but East’s defense held firm. Goalkeeper Nora Kanyok made 10 saves, while Kate McCauley and Sophia DePrizio each recorded a defensive save.
Brynn Bonargo scored East’s first goal and assisted on Lafferty’s overtime winner.
The Bucks, according to West coach Lori Ierubino, came oh-so-close to tying the score as time expired in the opening half, but the goal was waved off when the ref blew an early whistle.
West has a target on its back every time it takes the field after last year’s state runner-up finish, and Ierubino put her team’s first loss of the season in perspective.
“It seems like every season has a game like this – a turning point; you can either let it defeat you or learn from it and move on,” the Bucks’ coach said. “We definitely have a lot to learn from this game and a lot of season left to apply those lessons.”

Saves: CB West – Bella Craig 5; CB East – Nora Kanyok 10
Defensive saves: CB East – Kate McCauley 1, Sophia DePrizio 1
Central Bucks East coach Emma Rosenthal:
–A team effort: “We played together tonight and believed in ourselves. I think it’s really hard going against an opponent like West, who’s coming off a season where they were state runners-up. It comes with a lot of pressure, and I think that some teams might fear that. But our girls really just believed in themselves tonight, and I really think that belief in each other and belief in themselves was the key to the victory.
“Our defense really held tough tonight. They had 16 offensive corners. If you looked at possession, they would have won the game based on possession, but we executed so beautifully.
“Both of our goals were on corners. The first was a direct shot from Brynn Bonargo in the second quarter. Our overtime goal was off a corner. It was our third corner in overtime, and it was the opposite this time. It was a Brynn Bonargo shot and a Sam Lafferty tip.”
–Props: “Sam Lafferty is our center back. She’s really incredible. If you look at every single game, Sam has probably made a defensive save. She assisted our first goal, and she scored the game-winner, so I’ve really got to give a big shoutout to Sam on both sides of the ball.
“Kate McCauley played a fantastic game tonight. She’s one of our defenders, and in our defensive corner unit, it’s Sam, Kate McCauley, Sophia DePrizio and Thea Martinez.
“Our goalie Nora Kanyok had 10 saves tonight, and she played just an absolutely outstanding game. She is really coming into her own, and it’s really amazing to see her grow in that position.”
–No time to rest: “We get to turn it around tomorrow. We play Faith Christian tomorrow afternoon, so I told them to enjoy tonight, but the week is not over, and the job is not done. We still see West again. This really is the start of the season. It’s nice to have this victory, but this is not the peak for us.”
Central Bucks West coach Lori Ierubino:
–The game: “We dominated the game statistically, but we couldn’t find the back of the net to secure the win. We were sloppy and lost our composure, earning four cards yet still controlled play down players. Other moments we were unlucky – hitting the post and having a goal called back. Congrats to East on getting the job done. We are glad we get to play them again and look forward to avenging this loss at home for our Pink Out game.
Up next: Central Bucks East will host Faith Christian Academy in a non-league game, and Central Bucks West will travel to Manheim Township for a non-league game Saturday (11am).

Lexi Yanchunas contributed a goal and an assist to lead the Indians to the hard-fought win.
Goals were not easy to come by for either side, and it was Autumn Wagner turning a pass from teammate Lexi Yanchunas into the game’s first goal with 7:09 remaining in the third quarter.
That tenuous 1-0 lead held until just 1:42 remained in regulation when Yanchunas found the cage with an insurance goal.
The Indians held a 14-6 advantage in shots but the Knights held a 9-8 edge in corners.

Souderton coach Sue Casciato:
“We didn’t play with as much composure today as I would like to see. We are a very young team with not much varsity experience, but I would have hoped that seven games in we would be making better decisions. North Penn definitely played with more confidence and urgency than we did.”
Props: “Credit to Brooke Wagner for playing an outstanding game at center back.”
North Penn coach Shannon McCracken:
“Despite a loss tonight, I am very proud of the way we played tonight. The team put together a full 60-minute game of hard play, team play, and we put a lot of pressure on Souderton. We won a lot of 50/50 balls and made smart possession passes.
“It is important that we finish plays in the offensive circle and continue to work on transitions on defense. Kudos to Souderton for being effective in their offensive circle on their opportunities.”

–The game: “Very much a middle of the field game. A well-disciplined coached Pennridge team was hard to move through the middle of the field. We squeaked out the win, but we had to play more physically and be prepared for some large hits out of the Pennridge middle and back of the field.”
–Props: “Big Props to Ryann VanDerSluis and Mia Jones for remaining calm in our midfield and controlling the sidelines and the width of the game.”
–Honoring difference makers: “Tonight our seniors honored their difference makers through their 12 years at Central Bucks and the ceremony was short and sweet at the beginning of the game but so meaningful to be able to recognize the many employees of Central Bucks that helped shape our student athletes.”
Pennridge coach Chris Chookagian:
“(It was) a battle of the midfield, Our best game so far, keeping the ball between the 25s throughout the length of the game. Great defense across the board and transitioning the ball well.”

The Cardinals earned the win in Thursday’s division contest, but there were no losers on this day, which was the Hatters’ Mental Health Game.
“Today was about something much bigger than the scoreboard,” Hatters’ coach Lauren Holliday said. “Before the game, the Hatters welcomed the UD girls by gifting each player a butterfly with a meaningful message, along with Morgan’s Message swag, as a reminder that you are never alone and your mental health matters.
“Today was our Mental Health Game, where HH and UD partnered with Morgan’s Message to take a shot at breaking the stigma surrounding mental health and starting important conversations.
“Although the Hatters faced a tough loss today, we are so proud to share that around $500 was raised for Morgan’s Message! Thank you to everyone who came out, donated, and supported such an important cause.”
As for the game, Claire Wilson put the visiting Cards on the board just over a minute into the second quarter. Mackenzie Harmon just over a minute later with the equalizer, but Amelia Ungaro’s unassisted goal with five seconds remaining in the quarter sent the Cards into halftime with a 2-1 lead and, more importantly, momentum.
UD put the game out of reach with three unanswered goals in the third quarter on their way to the win. Wilson had a pair of goals to lead the Cards. Abby Rucker had a pair of assists.

“We made some adjustments at halftime that really helped us to start the third quarter strong and continue on the progress we have made the past couple weeks. Huge shout-out to Amelia Ungaro for scoring our second goal which helped us keep the momentum on our side going into half-time. Today was a great game for us as a team and we are proud of the resilience we had to regain control in the second half.”
Hatboro-Horsham coach Lauren Holliday:

“A balanced attack saw Zoe Smith, Taylor Wehr, and Paige Longacre each capitalize on great ball movement to find the cage, reflecting total engagement across the field.
“Behind that scoring power, Darcy Baxter anchored defense with Cameron Landis, Emily Reese, Blair Mora, Ameila Bodner, and Airiana Olivarel to secure the win.
“Fueled by the incredible energy of our local supporters, this victory showcases the grit and high standard of our field hockey program as we continue to build momentum for the second half of the season ahead.”
Wissahickon coach Hannah Havrilla:
“It was another tough game against Quakertown. We knew this week was not going to be easy, and there is a lot to take away from this game. We need to continue to remember to play our style of hockey and stick to what we do well, even when we are playing better teams.”
