SOL non-league crossover
CENTRAL BUCKS WEST 3 PLYMOUTH WHITEMARSH 2 (OT)
In a classic battle between the perennial SOL powers, it was the Bucks – thanks to a goal by Zola Morelli (Lucy Smith assist) – eking out the dramatic win in overtime.
The Bucks trailed 2-1 after a third-quarter goal by PW’s Sam Callan but rallied to knot the score with just under 10 minutes remaining in the fourth quarter when Ellie Tweddale tipped a shot by Heidi Schoenleber into the cage for the equalizer.
Scoring Summary
First quarter
Lucy Smith on put back off goalies pads (CBW) 12:21
Quinn Burns from Kayleigh Boland (PW) 0:51
Second quarter

Third quarter
Sam Callan (PW) 5:47
Fourth quarter

By the numbers: Penalty corners: CBW 4, PW 6; Shots on goal: CBW 23, PW 11; Goalkeeper saves: CBW 7, Lily Barclay (PW) 9.
Central Bucks East coach Lori Ierubino:
“A win that came about because West would not accept defeat. It was intense and filled with thrilling opportunities that we couldn’t capitalize on until overtime. The girls did not give up, and it was that determination and persistence by the team as a unit that secured this win against a very fast and talented PW team.”
–Props: “Our forwards – Claire, Ellie and Zola – were poised and patient and made it very difficult for PW to clear their defensive zone. Our side mids – Quinn and Leah – were ready to assist and start the counterattack. Great vision that led to precise passing by Lucy Smith was top notch, especially in overtime.”
Plymouth Whitemarsh coach Charise Halteman:
–The game: “We played a tough game against CB West today. West scored early in the first quarter (12:21), but we responded well and created a number of attacking opportunities in the first half. Quinn Burns would score on a rebound during a corner play with 51 seconds left in the first quarter. Despite earning numerous corners in the second quarter, the game remained deadlocked. The majority of the third quarter was tightly contested until Sammy Callan worked her way into the circle and took an open reverse shot that tipped off of a defender’s stick to put the Colonials up 2-1. CB West dominated the fourth quarter and made it difficult for us to outlet the ball. Our freshman goalkeeper, Lily Barclay, made a lot of great saves to keep the game close, but West would score at the 9:53 mark to tie the game. A miscue in the OT led to the West win.”
Up next: Central Bucks West will be on the road at Pennridge Wednesday (7pm), and Plymouth Whitemarsh will be on the road at Upper Dublin Wednesday.

NEW HOPE-SOLEBURY 3, NESHAMINY 2 (OT)
Brianna McBride scored with 3:25 remaining in overtime, breaking a 2-2 tie and giving the visiting Lions the hard-fought win in Monday’s crossover game.
From the outset, this one was tightly contested with the team’s exchanging goals in the first quarter. Gabi Solis
scored during corner play to put the Lions on top 2-1 in the opening minutes of the third quarter. Midway through the fourth, Neshaminy’s Eve Garrison connected on her second goal of the game, this one knotting the score 2-2.
Scoring Summary

Brianna McBride (NH-S) 3:25
By the numbers: Penalty corners: N 8, NH-S; Shot on goal: N 9, NH-S 8; Goalkeeper saves: N 4, NH-S 5.
New Hope-Solebury coach Gwen Smith:
–The goals: “On our first goal, Elizabeth Varghese did a really nice job, bringing it into the circle and doing a nice reverse cross into the far post, far side.
“Gabi (Solis) scored in the third on a corner, and they came back and tied it. They took a shot that ricocheted off a stick, and it went over the goalie’s head and went in, and then we go to overtime.
“Brianna McBride received a pass around the 25, and she dribbled in. A defender that was on the other side of field started cutting across, and as the defender was closing on her, she got a nice shot on the goal. The goalie made a nice save, and she was able to get the rebound.”
–The game: “I think what I’m most proud of – we’ve been starting games slow, and we haven’t been playing a full 60 minutes. We did not start slow today, so that was good, and being able to get on the board within the first five minutes – that was fantastic. We’re really proud of that.
“There were times we did let up, so we still need to be able to play the full 60 minutes, but in overtime, they were ready, they were very focused, and they were determined.”
–Props: “Danielle Wilson was really able to control the backfield and keep us settled and organized. Gabi Solis definitely leads us (on attack), and she was able to create some really nice drives offensively and obviously a beautiful finish.”
–Tough crossovers: “Our crossover games have been really difficult. Against PW, we didn’t really show up, but what was good was we came back and we worked. When we played CB West – I was proud of our effort. I can’t say it was the whole 60, but we came to play. I’m like, ‘Let’s continue this, let’s go with this,’ and they did.”
Up next: New Hope-Solebury will travel to William Tennent on Wednesday, and Neshaminy will host Bensalem on Wednesday.

Upper Moreland came out energized and dominated the game for the first few minutes. Four minutes into the game, UM got a corner. Taylor Pagano inserted a perfect pass to Olivia Torres who had to dodge left, then made a reverse chip shot that hit the boards for a legal goal.
We love to get Olivia into the circle to score. She is such a force in the middle and is usually feeding the ball to teammates, so it was great to see her rewarded with her own awesome goal!
In the second quarter, Olivia Torres ripped a shot, and TK Riehle tipped the ball in mid-air, and it hit the boards for the score. TK has great hand-eye coordination and some of the best stickwork on the team, so it was great to see it pay off, getting what would be the winning goal.
As the game continued, CR North started to find their rhythm and was able to put pressure on our defense. Fortunately, because of their hard work in practice, our defense was really in sync today.
Defensive leader Bridget Hess reflected on the game, commenting, “Our defense played such an incredible game today…we stepped up for each other and our chemistry stayed as strong as ever. We never let up, even when North pushed hard and created a lot of opportunities…..Every time we were being pressured, we just communicated and trusted each other and found a way to get the ball out of our circle.”
The back defenders, Charlotte Russo, Giana Morrison and Hannah Gardner consistently battled to win the ball and get it out of our circle. Lyla Soleau came in on defense and played important minutes to keep the Bears ahead.
MJ Reilly played incredibly strong on attack. What MJ did well today was keeping possession. She had multiple breakaways and although she didn’t score, her play was significant in keeping the ball in the offensive zone. Kourtney Malone was another player who hardly came out of the game and played reliably at mid to secure the win.
The game ball went deservedly to junior Hannah Gardner! Hannah never comes out of the game. She just plays her position with grit and reliability. Gardner doesn’t do anything flashy, and she is not on the scoresheet. She is just consistent in taking opportunities away from the opponents and is calm under pressure.
Bears’ goalie Izzy Fisher came up big again, especially in the fourth quarter. Out of her 14 saves, nine were in the fourth quarter. I am not sure what happened in the fourth quarter, but CR North forced several corners, but our defense stayed tough. Also, in the second half, CRN was awarded a stroke and Fisher stood strong with a shot off the post.
Olivia Torres summed up the game by saying, “We all went in with positive energy, and our defense backed us up…our passing was great and we all had fun!”
Up next: Upper Moreland will host Lower Moreland on Wednesday, and Council Rock North will be on the road at Harry S Truman Wednesday.

QUAKERTOWN 4, SOUDERTON 0
Sunny Draper scored a pair of goals and assisted on another to lead the Panthers to their 12th win in as many games. Zoe Smith scored in the opening minutes of the first quarter with an assist from Cadence Jozefowski, and the Panthers had a lead they would not lose.
Draper – who just surpassed the 200-point mark – added to her total when she scored an unassisted goal in the second quarter to send the Panthers into halftime with a 2-0 lead on their way to the win.
Scoring Summary
First quarter
Zoe Smith assisted by Cadence Jozefowski (Q) 12:22
Second quarter
Sunny Draper (Q) 5:14
Third quarter
Cadence Jozefowski tipped in by direct shot Sunny Draper (Q) 6:31
Fourth quarter
Sunny Draper assisted by Penny Longacre (Q) 7:59
By the numbers: Darcy Baxter shutout 5 saves
Quakertown coach Peach Draper:
The game: “Quakertown Field Hockey put together a dynamic 60-minute performance from start to finish tonight, earning a decisive 4-0 shutout victory over a talented and well-coached Souderton squad. Quakertown set the tone early by finding the back of the net just 2:30 into the game, when Zoe Smith scored off an assist from Cadence Jozefowski. The momentum carried right into the second quarter on a penalty corner, where Sunny Draper executed a beautiful dodge and lift into the back of the goal to double the lead.
“The offensive pressure remained strong throughout the second half, completing a run of scoring in every single quarter. In the third quarter, Draper fired a hard drive that Jozefowski tipped in with perfection. Draper capped off her dominant night in the fourth quarter by taking a pass from Penny Longacre and ripping a stunning reverse shot from the top of the circle to finish the night.”
–Props: “The attack was supported by an incredible effort across the field. Midfielders Cassidy Landis, Paige Longacre, and Penny Longacre controlled the tempo and played amazing field-long defense, while goalie D’Arcy Baxter anchored the backline to secure the shutout along with our defense Emily Reese, Cameron Landis, Taylor Wehr, and Blair Mora. It was also a special night for the entire program, as the middle school team played at halftime, bringing the whole community together to watch and support Quakertown Field Hockey!”
Souderton coach Sue Casiato:
“Statistically, we were right with Quakertown tonight. Unfortunately, we struggled to finish, as we have most of the season. I’m happy with the effort we put forth but, in all honesty, we didn’t match up with Quakertown athletically. Their team is just stronger and faster than we are currently. Quakertown obviously has some very talented players and they work well as a unit. Over the last few games, we’ve faced a few really strong opponents. Hopefully we can take what we learned and build from that moving forward.”
Up next: Quakertown will host Abington on Wednesday, and Souderton will host Central Bucks South for its Staff Appreciation game on Wednesday.
PENNRIDGE 4, HATBORO-HORSHAM 1

HATBORO, Pa. — Penalty corner execution proved to be the difference as the Rams earned a convincing 4-1 victory over the Hatters at Hatters Stadium on Monday afternoon.
After a scoreless opening quarter, the Rams broke through at the 11:29 mark of the second quarter. Senior Colbie Landherr converted a penalty corner opportunity off a feed from sophomore Naomi Nulty, scoring her third goal of the season and giving the Rams a 1-0 lead.
The Rams doubled their advantage just three minutes later when Nulty recorded her second assist of the game, finding junior Jenna Verespy in open play. Verespy finished the opportunity for her third goal of the season, sending the Rams into halftime with a 2-0 lead.
Hatboro-Horsham cut the deficit to one early in the third quarter when senior Mackenzie Harmon scored on a direct shot off a penalty corner with 11:45 remaining in the period.
The Rams responded quickly. Just 50 seconds later, Nulty continued her breakout performance by tallying her first varsity goal, finishing an unassisted penalty corner opportunity to restore the two-goal advantage.
Senior Paige Cowper added the final tally of the afternoon, scoring her first goal of the season after collecting a rebound off the Hatters goalkeeper’s pads during another Rams penalty corner.
Nulty finished with a standout three-point afternoon, totaling one goal and two assists, while Landherr, Verespy, and Cowper each added goals in the victory.
Sophomore Naomi Nulty stepped up big today, having a hand in three of our four goals. We’ve moved her around the lineup each game, and today she made a huge impact.
It was great to see some goals on the APCs in this game. We’ve been averaging about 7 per game, and those opportunities are critical in turning the tide of a matchup. It’s been a focus of ours over the last few games and practice sessions, so it was nice to see those gears working. This mid-season stretch was a nice reset for the group as we head back into a tough conference schedule.
–Props: First Career Goal – Naomi Nulty

Central Bucks South coach Steph Bardell:
–The game: “Another game to get the entire bench into the game. Jenna Butler was controlling the middle of the game and was able to get on the scoreboard in the fourth quarter with a rocket of a shot, she had a great all-around game. Emily Aldrich continues to push our lead and get our offense rolling. Having Sophia Kraft in the lineup and welcoming her back is an amazing breath of relief. Sophia Hurley came up with some saves that helped keep the momentum going in the right direction for us today. Looking forward to getting back into our conference play.”
Upper Dublin coach Erica Kelly:
–The game: “We felt like today was a fairly evenly matched game with a lot of possession play from both teams in the midfield. CB South was very strong on the ball and finished on a lot of opportunities they had. For us, scoring the first goal early was a great way to come out and start the game, but we let a few opportunities slip through the cracks throughout the game. Overall, I am proud of how the girls played and that they did not lose their intensity until the final whistle blew.
“Big shout-out to Ella Pensabene who scored her first Varsity Goal today, and Liv Coffey who had her first defensive save.”

Cissy Lewis had a hand in five goals in Monday’s decisive win over the host Trojans. It was Lewis turning a pass from Devon Crowley into the game’s first goal, but Carly Lehman answered for the Trojans.
A pair of second-quarter goals by North Penn’s Maddie Koch and Hailey Barwis sent the Knights into halftime with a 3-1 advantage. Lehman trimmed the Knights’ lead to one with the only goal of the third period.
The Knights put an exclamation point on the win in the fourth quarter, reeling off four unanswered goals – three by Lewis while Koch picked up her second.

North Penn coach Shannon McCracken:
–The game: “Great team effort tonight under the lights at Wissahickon. Our passing sequences were top notch, and our drive to goal was elevated tonight. We did a great job of pressuring Wissahickon and causing turnovers. Our offense was able to get off shots quickly and have sticks ready for rebounds.”
–Props: “Our center players had a strong game tonight – forward Cara Albano, midfielders Cissy Lewis, Devon Crowley, and back Sam Stone.”
Wissahickon coach Hannah Havrilla:
–The game: “Unfortunately, we did not execute the way we needed to tonight. We started off strong, executing on a corner in the first quarter, and did a good job of holding them in the second quarter. We just were unable to step to the ball soon enough and caused too many fouls in the circle.
“There is a lot to learn from tonight’s game. We need to focus on what we can control, control the controllables, and always give that second effort. We will learn from this and continue to get better.”
–Props: “I would like to recognize our keepers, Allie Diemer and Rae Stiteler, for their efforts tonight. The two combined for 24 saves, with Allie recording 13 saves and an 86.7% save percentage and Rae recording 11 saves and a 61.1% save percentage.

PENNSBURY 7, LOWER MORELAND 0
It felt great to be home. The Pennsbury Falcons have been on the road since September 17th and finally returned to their stadium today to face non-conference opponent, the Lower Moreland Lions. These two teams met up during preseason in August at the Hockeyrama playday hosted by PHS, but a month had passed and a lot can change. Before the game started, Pennsbury head coach Traci Curtis and LM head coach Deb Lawlor took time to honor the referees for referee appreciation week with small gifts and an announcement of gratitude for helping to grow and support the sport. Without our refs, we would not be able to compete in the game we love, so it is imperative that we take the time to recognize their contributions as often as possible.
It was a sleepy Monday start for the Falcons who came out a little sluggish and struggled to score for a large part of the first quarter despite dominating possession for a majority of the 15 minutes. Senior forward Nandi Ntshalintshali kicked off the scoring when she picked up a rebound off of the pads during a corner play and slipped it by the Lions’ goalie at the 4:12 mark. That was the lone goal of the quarter putting Pennsbury up 1-0 going into the second quarter.
“We were pretty slow to start today but still were able to possess the ball and move it around the field nicely, using the full depth and width,” said coach, Traci Curtis. “We were just looking for some more spark and energy that characterizes our style of play.”
There was a little more spark in the second quarter as the Falcons notched three goals and continued to keep Lower Moreland in their defensive end. Halfway through the quarter, defender, Joley Hohman, one timed a great shot from the stroke during penalty corner play.
“Abby Iacona fired a straight shot directly on pads, and Regan Rodriguez kept the ball in play at the baseline,” said Curtis. “Rodriguez used great IQ and sent it to stroke where Hohman was ready. It was good clean up after the initial shot and something we have been working on improving each game. Hohman has been a good addition to our corners on offense and is just part of the adjusting we are doing from game to game.”
PHS was up 2-0. Two minutes later, senior Ryan Burdette, scored her first of the game, weaving through the defense inside the circle and pushing it past the goalie unassisted, making it a 3-0 game. Abby Iacona added her first of the game at the 2:30 mark, making it a 4-0 game going into halftime.
“Burdette took a quick free hit, sending it the mandatory five yards to Iacona on the left right outside the circle,” said Curtis. “Iacona got the ball inside and put a great shot right on cage and connected with a little help from a defender who stuck her stick out to stop it.
“Abby does a great job getting the ball on cage and into play for her teammates. It is definitely one of her strengths to be able to shoot from anywhere and make something happen.”.
The fifth goal came from senior Ava Pinto a few minutes into the third quarter on a beautiful tip during a corner play assisted by Abby Iacona’s shot from the top of the circle.
“Pinto is spot on with deflections and owns that middle space so well during those penalty corner plays. She deflected Iacona’s shot so precisely, sending it up into the corner of the cage,” said Curtis.
The Falcons were up 5-0 and showed no signs of slowing. Leila Curtis scored the sixth goal of the game and her first of the season during a scuffle in the circle, picking up a rebound and lifting it past the goalie.
“The LM goalie was being peppered by shots and making repeated saves in the moment,” Curtis said. “It was a heads up play by Curtis to lift the ball after repeated attempts were made on the ground and the goalie was protecting those little shots so well. The ball popped out and Curtis held the space for the rebound and changed the path of the ball to notch the goal.”
The quarter ended and it was a 6-0 game.
Abby Iacona stuck again with one minute left in the game for her second unassisted goal. The Falcons walked away with the 7-0 win improving their record to 10-2 overall.
“The Lower Moreland goalkeeper played an outstanding game,” Curtis said. “She denied so many of our shots, tallying almost 20 saves. We were shooting from everywhere and she did a great job protecting her cage throughout the game.
“Deb Lawlor is an awesome coach and is working really hard with her team to teach them up and help them grow in their game. They stayed in it for 60 minutes and never let up. Their defense was super busy today and worked really hard.”
Thank you again, to all of the referees who are dedicated to field hockey and continue to cover our games year after year. We could not do it without you.
Pennsbury will host Council Rock South on Wednesday night on Falcon Field, returning to Patriot Division league play and look to take one more step toward clinching the SOL. Lower Moreland will be on the road at Upper Moreland Wednesday.
