Kevin Matthews scored a game-high 4 goals and added 1 assist and Calvin McGuire made 14 saves as Pennridge opened National Conference play with a 10-2 victory over North Penn on Wednesday.

Sparked by the superb offensive effort of Brody Anderson, who scored 7 goals on 11 shots, Souderton earned the conference win.
The Indians started quickly and pulled out to a 2-0 lead. Council Rock South’s Connor McCaffery scored with 21 seconds in the quarter to knot the game at 2-2. Souderton pulled ahead in the second quarter and held off Council Rock South despite a 4-goal fourth quarter.

Michael Smallwood scored 5 goals and added an assist, and Central Bucks East threw some serious defense at neighborhood rival Central Bucks South in a 10-1win in Wednesday’s National Conference opener.
Ben Snyder made 5 saves and added a ground ball pickup to earn the win in the cage for East.

After a scoreless first quarter, Pennsbury exploded for 5 second-quarter goals and never looked back as the Falcons downed local rival Neshaminy 11-2 in the National Conference opener for both teams on Wednesday.
Trent Becker led the Falcons with 4 goals and 2 assists, while Bradley Hill went 12-for-15 at the faceoff circle and scooped up 8 ground balls in addition to a goal and an assist.

Pennsbury coach Dean Curtis: “Today was our annual game for the Doug Greenfield ‘Grandpa’ Cup. This one always has special meaning for our program, knowing there is more at stake than just a win or a loss.
“The game was a defensive battle in the first quarter. Credit to Neshaminy for forcing our guys into some bad decisions. Thankfully, the defense stood tall throughout the game. We were able to find our rhythm on offense in the second and third quarters against a gritty Neshaminy team.”

PLYMOUTH WHITEMARSH 5, ABINGTON 4 (4 OT)

Plymouth Whitemarsh High School won an epic overtime battle against league rival Abington on Wednesday afternoon by a score of 5-4. Junior midfielder Drew Strohl (2G, 1GB) scored the game-winner with seconds
left in overtime to give the Colonials the win.
Plymouth Whitemarsh’s defense, led by senior LSM/Defenseman Isaiah Bainbridge (1A, 6CTO, 9GB) and senior defenseman Jackson Budin (4CTO, 7GB) held the Ghosts scoreless for the entire fourth quarter and during the overtime periods. Bainbridge and Budin combined for 10 caused turnovers and 16 groundballs to thwart Abington’s strong offensive effort and establish themselves as two of the league’s top poles. Goalie Mason Best had 10 saves for his third consecutive impressive game in net. The Colonials also received solid defensive efforts from senior defenseman Dylan Imperial and senior defensive midfielders Hayden Domers (4GB) and Chase Rarrick.
Senior midfielder Luke LaViola (1G, 1CTO, 3GB) tied the game in the final seconds of regulation to force overtime. PW’s FOGO junior Kai Silverman (13 for 16 FO, 2 GB) was dominant, winning 13 of 16 faceoffs to give the Colonials a fighting chance to keep the game alive and ultimately pull it out in the end. The Colonials scoring was rounded out by senior attackman Caiden Lesczcynski and junior attackman Owen Cababe.

The Golden Bears led 6-0 after one quarter and held a 9-0 advantage at halftime.
