UPPER DUBLIN 13, BOYERTOWN 1
The Flying Cardinals rolled to a no-doubt-about-it win over the visiting Bears in non-league action. They took a 6-0 lead into halftime and doubled that advantage in the second half.
Bridget DiMartile, Lily Buckius and Maeve Hogan each connected for a hat trick. DiMartile also had a pair of assists for a five-point game.
By the numbers: Bridget DiMartile (3 goals, 2 assist), Lily Buckius (3 goals, 1 assists), Maeve Hogan (3 goals), Emily Buckius (1 goals, 2 assist), Anna DiMartile (1 goal, 1 assist), Ava Shohen (1 goal, 1 assist), Abby Rucker (1 goal), Caroline Stoffel (1 save)
Upper Dublin coach Dee Cross: “The first quarter was a lot of up and down the field with not a lot of offense. We held a 2-0 lead after one quarter and then were able to build on the lead after that with each quarter played.
“Boyertown is a well-coached team and always fast. They controlled the draw for most of the game, but we were able to come up with key caused turnovers to gain possession in the midfield and defensive end.
“The season is still young, so we have a lot to work on and the girls are working hard to improve. We play Penncrest on Saturday, so that will be a good test for us going forward.”
–Props: “Shannon Connaughton did a great job on neutralizing their senior leader, Hannah Adamski. The whole defensive unit of Abby O’Meara, Olivia Broome, Shannon and Sophia Sirianni, along with Liv Coffey played together and were always ready for the slide to help double team and force turnovers.
“The middies – Anna DiMartile, Bridget DiMartile and Maeve Hogan and Ava Shohen were all over the field helping with transition and settling things down on both ends of the field.
“We had seven different goal scorers today with seven goals being assisted. Lily Buckius had a career high three goals today and is starting to gain confidence on the field.”
Up next: Upper Dublin (2-0) will travel to Penncrest for a non-league game Saturday (11:30 am).

Lucy Carney was stellar in net, saving 65 percent of the shots on goal, while defensive captains Keiley Lyons and Abbey Steadman led a relentless effort to shut down Springfield’s attack.

PENNRIDGE 15, PERKIOMEN VALLEY 6
The Rams trailed by one after one quarter but rallied to go on top 8-5 by halftime and then seized complete control of the game in the second half, allowing just one goal and scoring seven of their own.
Madigan Posey’s four goals led the Rams, who also received hat tricks from Maddie Boyer and Cayla Werz. Werz also had three assists and a team high six points.
By the numbers: Madigan Posey (4 goals, 1 assist, 3 DC), Maddie Boyer (3 goals, 1 assist), Cayla Wurz (3 goals, 3 assists, 3 GB), Leah Verespy (2 goals, 1 assist, 4 DC), Harper Posey (2 GB, 2 CTO, 2 DC), Aubrey Bailey (2 goals, 1 assist, 2 GB, 3 CTO, 2 DC),Taylor Burkett (1 goal, 4 DC), Lily Blair (10 saves)
Pennridge coach Maddie Dachowski on the game:
–The beginning: “The game started hot for the Rams with three draw control wins in a row all by Leah Verespy, each possession was rewarded with a goal on the offensive end. Aubrey Bailey was first on the board for us off a free position goal. Fifteen seconds later Cayla Wurz wanted a piece of the action and took an iso drive off transition and hit the back of the net. Forty seconds later, Madigan Posey found Maddie Boyer for the Rams’ third goal, all within two minutes of play.
Leah Verespy won another draw control immediately, but the remainder of the first quarter was filled with missed opportunities and missed shots. The quarter ended with a Rams yellow card, and we went into the second quarter down by one. As much as we were on the wrong end of the scoreboard, I was nowhere close to nervous. We have started slower the past few games either ending first quarters down or only with a few goals. This was our game, and everyone knew it. I needed the defense to get more fired up, I wanted to see some big plays and sparks on the field that I felt we were missing on the D end at that time.
–Quarter two: “A beautiful picked off pass by Bree Bailey started that spark for us in the second quarter one minute in. A miscommunicated turnover on our offensive end gave PV back the ball while we were still man down. A huge hustle play by Leah Verespy coming up with the caused turnover and ground ball translated to a beautiful, assisted goal from Harper Posey to Bree Bailey her second on the night. Madigan Posey took over on the draw circle and pushed the ball back in to the Rams’ offensive end. Another quick turnaround with a goal by Cayla Wurz, her second of the night, from Maddie Boyer. Another Madigan Posey Draw control led to more offensive creativity from the Rams.
“A third consecutive assisted goal from Bree Bailey to Maddie Boyer, who notched her second of the night. After five minutes of dominant play from the Rams, PV gained possession off the draw and tried to get back within one. An 8m goalie save from Lily Blair and ground ball pick up from Freshman Emma Gall put the ball back into out sticks. After a few minutes of back-and-forth play, PV notched another goal, leaving the score at 6-5, and me questioning what’s going on with our defensive unit. Madigan Posey had no trouble putting the team on her back, scoring back-to-back goals to wrap up the half and leaving us at 8-5 going into half.”
–The second half: “After a rainy halftime, we were back in action. I told my team to focus on playing clean and getting the right looks at cage. With the weather only getting worse, I wanted to stick to the game plan and finish what we started. The third quarter only had three goals total, one from PV and two from Pennridge – one each from Cayla Wurz and Madigan Posey, who both had no trouble completing their hattricks on the night.”
–Bringing it home: “Going into the fourth quarter, it was 10-6 us. I was never worried we would slip, but PV was putting up a huge fight and until that point, this win did not come lightly. We completely took over and put on a show in the fourth quarter, going on a five-goal run and shutting out PV completely.
“Maddie Boyer completed her first career hat trick, scoring while we were man down. An almost turnover turned onto an electric goal. Maddie has done a great job adjusting to her starting position on this team. We have a lot of playmakers looking for cutters on attack, and Maddie is so strong when she is determined to get the ball into the back of the net. The seniors trust her, and that is huge for our team’s chemistry. Leah Verespy finally notched a tally on the scoreboard from a Cayla Wurz feed. Right after Leah’s goal, the Rams were back of the offensive end and Cayla Wurz found a cutting Taylor Burkett for the goal. Back-to-back assists from the senior attacker. Madigan Posey hit a flawless 8m goal, putting us up by eight. Madigan Posey started this season on fire with 16 points under her belt in just three games. The last goal by the Rams came at four minutes remaining in the fourth when freshman Kayla Verespy found her cutting sister Leah Verespy for a stunning finish.”
–Big win for Rams: “Overall, I am happy with the way we played. We didn’t have Gianna Leuthe in tonight as she is taking a few days off to take care of a small injury. Adjusting our gameplan came easier than I thought it would, and Harper Posey who stepped up in her absence did not disappoint. Although she didn’t get a ton of looks on the offensive end, she did great between the 30s and on the defensive end. With the rain coming down hard they were playing so clean, there were really not too many sloppy mistakes that you start to see when weather begins to turn. We had great looks on both ends, and 9 of 15 goals were assisted.
“A great win and fun celebration as always with the girls! Looking forward to future games, I am focused on starting hotter and a bit more dominant in the beginning of games. I think this team is so strong, and we have that depth off the bench, I don’t want to get stuck holding rotations because we are slipping on both ends early. We have back-to-back games Saturday and Monday vs Spring Ford and Springfield Delco, two very tough teams. We are ready to lock in and keep pushing towards our goals.”
Up next: Pennridge (3-0) will travel to Spring-Ford for a non-league game Saturday (12:30pm).
