SOL American Conference
WISSAHICKON 15, UPPER MORELAND 6
Wissahickon jumped out of the gate early – pumping in 6 goals in the opening quarter – and never looking back as the Trojans downed Upper Moreland in the American Conference opener for both squads.
Sam Farno and Alexa McCabe led the Trojans – who remain undefeated on the young season – with 4 goals and 2 assists each.
Upper Moreland senior Annalise Messina continued to add to her legacy, scoring 4 goals for the Golden Bears, including the 300th goal of her high school career. The Golden Bears also received a stellar effort from goalkeeper Addy Hurley, who made 16 saves.
By the numbers: Wissahickon: Sam Farno (4 goals, 2 assists, 3 CTO, 2 GB), Alexa McCabe (4 goals, 2 assists, 1 CTO, 1 INT), Emma Greenberg (2 goals, 4 DC), Sophia Stehlik (2 assists, 8 DC), Lila Marciniak (2 goals, 3 assists, 1 DC), Maddie Radell (2 goals), Carly Lehman (1 goal), Ellie Stein (4 CTO, 2 INT).
Upper Moreland: Annalise Messina (4 goals, 1 assist), Keiley Hawk (2 goals), Keira Hess (1 assist), Addy Hurley (16 saves).
Wissahickon coach Chuck Wurzbach: “We knew that today had to be a complete team effort if we had a chance to win. Upper Moreland plays a really tough zone defense that requires a very disciplined approach on attack, so it was nice to see the team move the ball and be patient enough to get a good shot.”
–Props: “Sam Farno really stepped up today and had a great game.”
–Stein shines … again: “I might sound like a broken record, but Ellie Stein has been a key to our success so far this season. Another great game on defense with 4 caused turnovers and 2 interceptions. Her ability to get the ball up the field in transition is huge. While we didn’t completely stop Annalise Messina, we were able to do enough to slow her down a bit.”
Upper Moreland coach Kim Frantz: “In a challenging matchup, we fell short, but there were notable moments of growth. While the score isn’t what we hoped for, they are showing continued improvement in their teamwork and basics with each game we play. We will continue to work together and grow as a team and look forward to being back on the field Monday against Wood.”
–Props: “Addi Hurley had another phenomenal game with 16 saves. Avery Adamski did a great job getting the defense to connect more and more as each minute passed.”
–Remarkable achievement: “From this game we will celebrate Annalise Messina, who scored her 300th career goal, marking a major milestone in her playing career.”
